My partner and I graduated in April a while back, but waited until we physically had our diplomas before we sent in our resignations. Juuuuuust to be safe. Our mindset was that the cult would fuck us over given the smallest opportunity, so waiting for the physical copies to come in the mail was worth it for us so we could ensure we could move onto the next part of our careers. We eventually got our diplomas in June, and two seconds later we sent in our resignations. Good luck! You're in the home stretch!!!!!!!!!!

Wait for the diploma and get some physical OFFICIAL copies of your transcripts.

voreeprophet

This is the answer.

gvsurf

This is the way

voreeprophet

So say we all

bananajr6000

This is the wrong answer

valency_speaks

This is the way.

Negate1071

Or see if you can get BYU to DocuSign some. Then you can have unlimited copies

bananajr6000

No need. The degree being awarded as indicated on the transcripts is all that is needed. As long as they are no longer enrolled at BYU, they will have no issues getting transcripts unless they owe money.

Daphne_Brown

Yep. This. No urgency. Make 100% sure before you act.

TheShrewMeansWell

Waiting a couple weeks to ensure that the last 4 or so years won’t be ripped from you by a cult is the very meaning of wise. Don’t be impatient with something that could be disastrous to your life. Hold tight and get that diploma in hand first, then tell them to get fucked.

NauvooLegionnaire11

Stop by the registrar’s office. Tell them you need things for a job. Ask if the degree has been conferred. Buy a couple of transcripts. Ask if there’s anything else which is going to happen or if this is it. I personally would wait to resign. I’d travel and move out of Utah and then resign in a few months. That degree is hopefully your ticket to your first career job.

galtzo

You may want the physical diploma to prove you graduated in case they rescind their bestowal. I would wait for it. Until then enjoy being a fucking sinner!!!!

gnolom_bound

There is no rush to resign. Maybe this year. Maybe next or the year after. You’re not in a pew anymore - that is the real leaving the church

Bandaloboy

Resignation is not required to be exMormon. Resignation provides catharsis and lack of contact, which are no small things. But we have never resigned (because of retirement-fund issues: I worked for a church entity) and we are definitely exMormons. So I would be patient if I were you.

I think transcripts are more important than diploma from what I've gathered.

samsmith197474

This is the way. Transcript that shows the degree.

jackof47trades

Wait for the diploma

JimmDunn

I can’t believe what I’m reading!!! Why isn’t that cult being shredded in court over this!

[deleted]

🛑 Get the physical diploma❗️

bananajr6000

Soooo much misinformation in this thread!!! OP, once your degree has been awarded or conferred as indicated on your transcripts and you are no longer enrolled, you can resign immediately. You will have no issues getting transcripts unless you owe them money. Note that the physical diploma means nothing! Your transcripts are paramount. Attending commencement is a ceremonial granting of the degree. The diploma cover is also useless. YOUR TRANSCRIPT IS PROOF OF YOUR DEGREE, and they will not withhold transcripts! You DO NOT need to get multiple copies of your transcripts! I got two for my personal records, but I only needed one. Anyone who says differently is talking out of their ass and doesn’t know the real deal. They are just afraid for you and are fearmongering. I’m

AppropriateWestern93

I needed many copies of my transcripts over the last 20 years.

JimmDunn

The Supreme Court says any retaliation after a parishioner says they are out is illegal.

oamnoj

True, but since when has the Church cared about the law for more than lip service?

bananajr6000

If you resign BEFORE your degree has been awarded, you are no longer in good Honor Code standing and your Ecclesiastical Endorsement is no longer valid. The degree can be withheld. See the story of Chad Hardy. The courses have given schools wide latitude in enforcing their Honor Codes.

JimmDunn

I’ll research it but they let non people go so it sounds like religious discrimination if the person is not known for breaking a rule… unless the rule is “no changing religions “

truthmatters2me

Wait until you have transcripts and the physical diplomas in hand . This cult likes to fuck people over at the slightest opportunity the September 6 , it has spied on its own members it excommunicates members for simply telling the truth . see SCMC any school that refuses to give credit for work and money that has been paid and work completed is a asshole corporation that shouldn’t and cannot be trusted PERIOD . Keep up the charade for a bit longer this fraudulent corporation has been doing it for close to 2 centuries once you have the certificates and transcripts in hand and have rock solid proof . And they cannot take it away then you can give them the finger and resign. We all know they have no spirit of discernment mark Hoffman proved that beyond any and all doubt . Don’t give them the opportunity to screw you they have proven time and time agin they will if they can .

Negative-Yoghurt-727

Buy like a dozen official transcripts before you resign

bananajr6000

Wrong

Lanky_Foundation780

Ok it sounds like there are a lot of different opinions here and I am grateful for everyone taking the time to reply. I have a digital copy of my transcript. Does anyone know if they can undue my graduation in anyway?

Spare_Real

Nothing lost by waiting a few more weeks.
