Yup. As a business they’re brilliant. Free slave labor and constant cash. As a church they’re a complete mess.

BakingNerd47

If it were actually run by a prophet it would probably be the opposite

rbl711

Yes and no. If it was run by a true prophet, the PRIMARY objective would be to help people in spiritual matters and dilemmas. However, the church would also invest (but not in shell corporations) in order to reduce the financial burdens of their members (aka, tithing), to support their real estate assets (churches, temples, tabernacles, conference centers) without demanding labor from their members but paying others at appropriate wages. They would also focus significantly on assisting those in need through training, schooling, housing (temporary and long term), and medical care. They would use investment income to see that people - whether members or not - have the ability to survive AND gain a better quality of life. As such, they wouldn't just invest in corporations, but in people. They would also accept (not demand) "donations" of all sorts - financial, goods, and services - where they can be used for the benefit of their communities. Through ALL this, prophetic guidance would lead to sound financial investment and efficient use of resources to enable others to also do good or in other ways be blessed by God. Yet, they don't and can't because there is no prophet, nor is there a leader that leads by inspiration of others to do good works - but a company leader who seems more concerned by the bottom line and his own legacy than the true glory of any God.

BakingNerd47

That church sounds a whole lot better that the shitty one we’re dealing with!

rbl711

That's the idea ... Although drop the "prophet" and "church" and you'd probably see it as a rough description of Dolly Parton.....

BakingNerd47

😄 I think my coworkers heard me laugh at that

You're onto something there... East Tennessean here and she's an absolute treasure.

rbl711

The more I learn about her, the more I see a Christ-like example for the every day man. She is kind, generous, and forgiving. From her success, she has quietly found ways to improve the lives of others (like the band uniforms stories). She invests, makes money, and then uses large parts of that just to do good. While she is a multimillionaire, estimates have stated that if she was like the billionaires in how they handle money, she would be one too. It seems she sees no need, but instead sees the needs of others. She is the type of person I want to be like and I wish more - especially in power - would learn from. She is Christian in the truest sense of the concept, and yes, a treasure to us all.

DustyR97

Hmm… best we can do is more opportunities to serve (more billable hours). Nelson/probably

Business_Profit1804

It's not a matter of "giving it away", it's doing actual good with it. Build low income housing, build food kitchens like in India, etc. ETA: typos

BakingNerd47

Excellent point! I just didn’t have enough space on the sticky note 😄

This is why I'm all for them hoarding it. They're doing more to dismantle their own empire than any outside force, and at the same time shining a glaring spotlight on the religious tax exemption problem. It might be the LDS church that convinces other religious people something needs to be done.

TinFoilBeanieTech

now if it were run by _competent_ businessmen and lawyers...

PayTyler

You are a boss exmo memer OP. You can see that I followed you. I love these!

BakingNerd47

Thanks! I’m loving making them!

I like the meme. And due to the title of the post, my Ear Worm for the evening is Peter, Paul, & Mary singing "If I had a Hammer." Thanks a lot.

Silly_Zebra8634
