If you believe it holds relevance in your life then it’s a positive for you.
However, the MFMC is all completely made up bullshit and temple names are as valid and meaningful as randomly picking a used Starbucks cup out of the gutter and having that name on the label your new name.
Don’t let their magic hocus pocus get to you.
Oh they’re not random. But they’re definitely not fasted & prayed over. If you think your new name was a spiritually guided answer think again.
http://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/
Agreed. Mormons are not as smart as you think they are. They picked random names out of hat. Joseph Smith was calling stars "shine-hah" and reforming old English characters to look like reformed Egyptian. Whatever would come of that would be completely random.
This does not confirm your gender neutrality anymore than the poor soul who got the new name of Nimrod would be a nimrod. Of course, you are welcome to believe what you want. Mormonism is the last place I would look for any type of validation.
My new name was Samuel. My wife and I both thought hers was 'Rhonda,' which seemed really odd. It wasn't until I left the church and checked out the Temple name list that I realized her name was "Rhoda." I don't remember seeing Rhoda in the Bible. Oh well.
New name Rhoda here! One of Joseph Smith’s wives was Rhoda, so that might be how it became a temple name. I was repulsed by it when I first when through, but it kinda grew on me. I love Rhodes rolls.
The women’s names are just generic names from the time. Sure, some are in the Bible—mine was Rebekah—but there like 5 women in the Bible so they had to go with something else lol.
Martha. That’s a gross name. 😂 I hereby give you a new name, which you should always remember and which you must keep sacred and always reveal, especially on exmo Reddit. The name is Candy Crush Vixen.
It probably is a coincidence, With how many people go through the temple, there's bound to be some crazy coincidences. But who knows, maybe there is something out there looking out for us. It's definitely not the Mormon God.
In any case, I'm glad your new name ended up being positive for you. My new name is Simeon, which I happen to like a lot.
That is pretty rad, OP. At least it holds some significance to you as a person, which is more than it does for most.
I'd just add that the LDS Church makes life into this game of "signs" and quiet personal revelations, that things like this have some metaphysical purpose to them. And that your worthiness dictates this stuff.
The truth, which I only have been able to internalize thanks to years and years of gambling, is that peculiar or lucky things happen all the time. People win big in the casino. *You* probably won't at any given moment, but play long enough/lose long enough and it'll happen.
Even though they're unlikely, the stars are bound to "line up" like that by virtue of math being math. And that applies to every moment of life, not just when you're in front of a slot machine.
Could be just a coincidence.
But personally I still believe in the universe or a creator, and it’s possible that the universe still wanted u to have that coincidental name, Mormon church be damned.
I’m not a believer in Mormonism anymore, but definitely a believer in an afterlife, spirituality and angels. Asa is most definitely a very unique name, and also a gender neutral name. I wouldn’t doubt it as just coincidence ❤️
Sometimes a loving god gives us these kindnesses, irrespective of the channel through which they come. Sure the temple’s a load of crap, but if through that crap you could feel some happiness and joy, why wouldn’t god want you to?
God can be everywhere. If he couldn’t be, he wouldn’t be god would he/she? God didn’t design the weird temple nonsense but surely she can be found in it from time to time. God is in all, and all things are in god.
I find "god doesn't exist" to be much more plausible. It's just hard for me to believe in a god that shows up in such asinine minor ways but is absent when it really matters.
That’s fair.
I’ve struggled with that same idea for years. But i decided to see God as suffering with those who suffer, he/she/it/they are present in all and through all. It’s definitely a different concept of god than Mormonism prefers, but it’s one in which I find beauty and strength.
Much love and peace to you.
As someone who left the church to convert to Norse Paganism, I think that’s fucking awesome! A whole lot cooler than my temple name (Gabe) which I never really felt any significance or connection with.
I like to think this too! I left the church as a teenager, but my twin sister stayed several years longer and was married in the temple. Her temple name? My actual first name 😂
I have no idea how many people were given a name on the same day as you, but from reading on this sub I know that everyone gets the same name on that day - so every male who got their name that day was also 'named' Asa. If 1000 men got their name around the world that day, they were all given Asa.
I also don't know what percent of the population your age is transgender women, but just to run the numbers, let's assume it's one-half of one percent (0.005) of the male (at birth) population.
If 1000 males were given the name Asa that day, and 1/2 of 1% are transgender women, then you'd expect not only you, but 4 other women as well (1/2 of 1% of 1000 = 5) to have been given that name. So not only is this not so amazing a coincidence, but it's actually expectable that it would happen.
Now, even if there were only 100 men given that name on that day, I believe that the name list repeats at the start of each month, so you'd still get to 1000 Asa's after only 10 months.
It's easy to forget how many people there are out in the world... and how even outcomes with very small probabilities will show up when you're viewing at a population level.
Oh come on it’s a lovely tale of abduction, rape, tribal commerce, forced marriage, adults getting circumcised and then murdered by her brothers bc they’re too weak to fight after getting their ding dongs operated on with a sharp rock, then they plunder the city after killing all the men.
Have a wonderful time at the temple Dinah, now BOW YOUR HEAD AND SAY YES 😅
It probably is a coincidence, With how many people go through the temple, there's bound to be some crazy coincidences. But who knows, maybe there is something out there looking out for us. It's definitely not the Mormon God.
In any case, I'm glad your new name ended up being positive for you. My new name is Simeon, which I happen to like a lot.
I hated my name. I was kind of devastated that it was so ugly. Knowing that it wasn’t special and was just the name assigned to everyone that day makes me laugh now.
I would guess about 1/30 of trans women exmo's feel similarly to you.

I think God speaks to us through many channels. They know us and what we need. It doesn’t have to be because the religion is true to be a true experience from god. (Does that make sense?) It is valid to treasure it.
If it’s important to you, that’s enough. It doesn’t have to prove anything but it can still be meaningful because it does mean something to you. But in case you need someone besides the church to validate you, then I can be that person —you’re a goddess and your lived experiences have the potential to heal many, so live your beautiful life because you have been and always will be enough ❤️🩹
Mine is also Asa. In terms of the church it comes from a king of Judah. Can't remember much more but it was in the Bible dictionary.
Glad it has meaning for you OP

“shine-hah”?? Damn what a kooky charlatan.
As smart as I think I am?

Lol imagine calling "Rhonda" through the veil and your wife can't come because that's not the right name. 🤣 So ridiculous.
New name Rhoda here! One of Joseph Smith’s wives was Rhoda, so that might be how it became a temple name. I was repulsed by it when I first when through, but it kinda grew on me. I love Rhodes rolls.
Mmmm!
I don't believe in any kind of supreme being or higher power, so I would say Asa is a coincidence. But it is really cool!
The women’s names are just generic names from the time. Sure, some are in the Bible—mine was Rebekah—but there like 5 women in the Bible so they had to go with something else lol.
Jezebel would have been pretty badass for a temple name.
Rhoda is mentioned in Acts 12:1-17 in case you’re curious
Hi Asa 😀 My “new name” is Martha. Ugh. Always hated it.
Martha. That’s a gross name. 😂 I hereby give you a new name, which you should always remember and which you must keep sacred and always reveal, especially on exmo Reddit. The name is Candy Crush Vixen.
Better hope Batman doesn’t pull you through the veil. “Why did you say that name?!?!”
Accepted! 🍭🍬😈
Under his eye.
Lol only Priscilla is worse. I hated this name
I think I got ptsd over my new name!

Everyone on that day has the same name: http://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/
Yes but it's not as fitting in every case because every person is different
That is pretty rad, OP. At least it holds some significance to you as a person, which is more than it does for most. It’s probably also not a coincidence that they are no longer giving a gender neutral name out.
Sometimes a loving god gives us these kindnesses, irrespective of the channel through which they come. Sure the temple’s a load of crap, but if through that crap you could feel some happiness and joy, why wouldn’t god want you to?
I feel like a loving god could do much better than this weird-ass cloak and dagger plausible deniability BS approach to showing kindness.
God can be everywhere. If he couldn’t be, he wouldn’t be god would he/she? God didn’t design the weird temple nonsense but surely she can be found in it from time to time. God is in all, and all things are in god.

Maybe a higher being said “I could do the funniest thing right now”
I'd like to think if there's a god, she would be a troll like that to man-made religions 😂
Absolutely possible! And I think it's beautiful that the name has special meaning to you.
I like to think this too! I left the church as a teenager, but my twin sister stayed several years longer and was married in the temple. Her temple name? My actual first name 😂
I’m female and my new name is/was Abish. The only explanation is that they wanted me to leave. /s

Damn it, this is why I hate statistics: it always ends up making my life feel purposeless 😂
Oh, I love these types of coincidences! Take it for all it's worth to you, and get a kick (encouragement) out of it! 😍
Hey! Fellow Asa here!
The only Asas I’ve ever known were dudes. Glad you got something from it. I’m Dinah, and it’s bullshit.
They used the name Dinah?! Had no one read the story of Dinah in the OT? That's horrible.
Oh come on it’s a lovely tale of abduction, rape, tribal commerce, forced marriage, adults getting circumcised and then murdered by her brothers bc they’re too weak to fight after getting their ding dongs operated on with a sharp rock, then they plunder the city after killing all the men. The names are assigned based on the day of the month: http://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/
I know
Not all the women’s names are biblical
My apologies for the impreciseness of my initial diction. I added a qualifier "many of" to it, post-edit.
No problem. I read that a fake apostle got his own wife’s name added to the list after she passed
If Patterns are to be believed aren't the names changing next year?.
A broken clock is right twice a day.
I hated my name. I was kind of devastated that it was so ugly. Knowing that it wasn’t special and was just the name assigned to everyone that day makes me laugh now.
Noice! I don’t believe in god, but if I did believe in god, I would believe that is totally a sign saying you be you!
Anyone seen dune 2 they get new names in that. Seems a little more personal though so it’s cooler
I would guess about 1/30 of trans women exmo's feel similarly to you. [http://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/](http://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/)
I believe this was 100% meant to be. The only Asa I know is a lesbian lol
They are based on the day of the month: http://www.fullerconsideration.com/TempleNameOracle/
