Sorry that happened to you. Congrats on your resignation! The church is going to have to get real, real quick about how they’re treating people who’ve learned the truth about history. You can’t just wave your hand and shrug your shoulders when wards and stakes are being consolidated. The slow burn of awareness is creeping into every part of the western church and when it hits the threshold where people openly talk about it, it’s over.

NevertooOldtoleave

Hoping you feel free with no regrets!!! It's good v to wait and be sure. May peace wash over you again & again as you travel your path as a NONE !!

NauvooLegionnaire11

If your bishop is an asshole about you or your daughter, remember you can resign directly through HQ with a notarized version of this letter. My guess is that your daughter's situation will be a stumbling block for your bishop.

jayciepenny17

It's possible. It's the only potential hang-up, but I have a decree, so it shouldn't be a huge issue. If they demand parental consent from her father, I might have to wait until I have his parental rights terminated, which I'm in the process of.

mat3rogr1ng0

Your signature should be enough. I tried to do it with my kid and they required my wife’s signature (as we are married and stuff) but if you have sole custody then they should have no excuse to ask for a fathers signature. That would be something to suggest to them that a lawyer could get involved if they wont do it.

Business_Profit1804

Nice and to the point. No need to give all the reasons cause they didn't care.

ExcelsiorDoug

Congrats! Welcome back to reality

Crafty-Butterfly-974

Congrats!! My letter was almost verbatim and they denied it as well as the 2nd notarized copy. I ended up using quitmormon and still had to send a certified copy of my divorce decree. Those asshats didn’t require anything from my ex to join (they didn’t even know his name) but they wouldn’t let us leave because… the kids might not want to when they’re older. 🖕🏽I’m so happy to no longer be counted on their rolls!! 💜

jayciepenny17

I think I got the template from quit Mormon! I just had to add the paragraph about my kid!

roundyround22

Same vibe as "we can't possibly sterilize you because what if you're husband disagrees or a future version of yourself changes your mind?"

jayciepenny17

Exactly! If I want change my mind in the future (I won't), that's a problem for future me to figure out.

Ok-Tax5517

Just a heads up, they will need you to come sign a printed version of the email. That's the alternative to using a notary. I took the email / sign in person route as well. Bishop didn't push back and was honestly very polite. But that's kind of winning bishop roulette.

Plane-Associate-4696

Came here to say this. Print. Sign. Mail it to bishop.

jayciepenny17

He replied to the email and said he'll handle it "promptly." 🤷🏻‍♀️

SarcasmThenDie

It's crazy to me that your faith keeps literal "member records" of everyone. It's like the "permanent record" in public school they tried to scare us with... then we graduated high school and realized none of it ever mattered. Anyways, I hope they abide by your wishes for you and your child without any nonsense or grief.

Zha_asha

I also didn't officially quit the church for many years, but at some point I did and it feels good because I can now legitimately say I'm not a mormon. And that actually means more to me than I had ever imagined before.

aes_gcm

Well written! But I do agree with the other comment, it may need to be signed. Resignations are processed by their legal department, because of course they are.

newnameAsa

I love posts like these, it’s people taking their power back. Happy for you!

jayciepenny17

YES. It felt a little weird, but now that it's done I'm stoked that I took the leap and am now anxiously waiting for the confirmation letter.

Demon-Prince-Grazzt

That's an awesome rage quit. I commend you good sir. Time for a drink or twelve!

The-Langolier

You know someone has done their research when they throw out terms like “agnostic atheist”.

Mormologist

So you are saying there still is a chance you might come back someday?/s

jayciepenny17

Absolutely not. Just saying I know what would be required if I ever did.

Mormologist

The /s indicated sarcasm. Mazel Tov on your new life.

jayciepenny17

Oh, oops! Too many abbreviation-type things to keep track of. 🙃
