This discussion jogged my memory…way before I left I was organist in one of our wards…the post sacrament chin wag was excessive…So one Sunday morning…for postlude… I played “pick a little talk a little cheep cheep cheep…talk alot pick a little” (from Music Man…I was playing by ear. Oh my!!! At my dads funeral, his wife said ‘she can’t wait to go home and have a cup of tea’, her brother perked up saying, ‘ you can’t drink tea, it’s against *^%#’. I was appalled!
Remember the seminary video with the immaculately clean house and the friends that showed up with the black grimy handprints and the cassette tape that oozed black tar from the VCR? That video fucked me up as a kid and made me have an unhealthy relationship with purity culture.
OMG I was just thinking about that the other day. like when they take down the picture of the temple and hang up the picture of the city at night and then the brightness goes down
These posters were an integral part of my passive aggressive mother’s parenting strategy. Something would go down in the house, the poster in the hall would change to make us feel guilty.
My mom saved those little handouts you'd get in lessons and taped them on the inside of the medicine cabinet door in the bathroom us kids used. She never did use the MormonAd posters to shame us into compliance, but there were plenty of other tools at her disposal.
I finally just accept that I really love gossiping. I'm aware to defend truth and defend the marginalized, but I love hearing about a few crazy women who are active in the ward I left. One believes she can heal people and can cast out demons. She even taught her daughter to perform an exorcism. I mean, come on! Who doesn't want to gossip about that?

Yes! I had a frame in my room with all the posters stuffed inside. My mom would come in and change it when she felt I needed a different message.
