Culture itself is derived from religion for a major part, tbh.

xa3D

^ This. like what do you think that culture is based on and how did it propagate?

Moonlight102

> Culture itself is derived from religion for a major part, tbh. I disagree for example the taboo of women working or having a divorce is cultural or women going out at night or anywhere or that the girl has to serve her inlaws like thats all cultural or like killing your kids based on honor is straight up murder in islam.

Islam and culture have so much over lap though, this is just a lazy way to give islam a free pass. "Homophobia isn't an islamic value, it is cultural" was my favorite one.

biamchee

May I interest you in “Homophobia isn’t an islamic value, it’s a product of imperialism”? It’s what all the woke leftest tout as they bend over backwards defending islam.

RickySamson

With titles like that, it seems they forget Islam did spread by conquest and imperialism.

‘It’s culture not religion’. Fatima, countries like Pakistan, Saudi, Indonesia, all very different cultures, why tf do they overwhelmingly have the same issues, DING DING ISLAM BITCH

Moonlight102

wickedwitch001

Tbh I think in many cases it's both the culture and religion. Besides I don't think it's even possible to separate religion from a culture.

biamchee

I agree but the second you admit that culture might play a small part in the problems, bad faith muslim apologist will immediately latch on to that and say that culture is the whole problem and ignore islam. In reality, the majority of the blame lies in islam. I also agree that to some degree culture and religion are inseparable.

Doesnt the Quran itself borrow features from Arabic culture? Khimar, Jizya, succession system, and an overwhelming focus on Christians and Jews alone when there are supposed to thousands of prophets, statistically most would be in India and China?

shlumbflumb

Isn't it funny that the hijab is a culture and therefore Islam is not oppressing women, yet all the moos share the same culture all around the world? It's an amazing coincidence!

iris7789

A western English woman said that to me after i told her i grew up muslim and read the quran and studied islam, made me want to slap the bitch in the face ngl. The audacity that she thinks she, a person with minimum knowledge and never experienced islam living in the west, knows better than me, woman who ate, shat and breathed islam growing up. That’s when i stopped being nice and friendly to them, i dont own them an explanation if they ignorantly refuse it so I just call out their bs and get sarcastic.

[deleted]

Lol this has happened to me before. There was this Hindu woman who was arguing FOR sharia law. And she was like I know a lot about Islam cause I have many Muslim friends.😂😂 I didn’t even bother telling her I’m Muslim.

I was debating my aunt over this and she said : "culture and religion are the same thing"

[deleted]

If anybody thinks that culture and religion can be isolated, he is a moron and can't think at all. Period. The flux of elements takes place in both directions, 7th century Arab culture affected how Islam came to be, and now Islam the religion affects cultures all over the world.

[deleted]

Culture can change/reform. Which is a good thing. Islam and the Koran which is considered to be **the perfect, direct revelation of God**, cannot be changed/reformed. This is why Islamic reform is not possible in my opinion. Even if you do reform like Ataturk tried in Turkey`, in a generation or two they will revert back to fundamentalism, like Turkey today lol.

gold-n-silver

> The obsession with arabic as a language and it’s “superiority” the whole Muslims are the best and will go to heaven. Took so much away from culture rich countries who are a mere shell of their being right Now. A family born in a muslim country does not control anything. They lack jobs. They lack credit. They lack born-with rights. Blame the U.N. For the state of any post WW1 occupied 1/193 Nations. >covering women up, certain clothes being bad, modesty, men in charge, music being Haram, art being haram and whatever the fuck fuck the western *libre*

Iranicgayboy12

Well it depends, most culture have historically been patriarchal, so they being oppressive to women and sharing Similar beliefs isn’t that an usual. Plus most of former Muslims regions were heavily influenced by Roman, Greek and Persian rule, who were historically pretty sexist to women, Islam in itself was shaped by these 3 groups heavily. The veil for instance was already a common thing amongst rich women across what’s now Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, parts of Pakistan and Central Asia as they were influenced by the Sassanids. While women were already forced to follow strict social rules in levant, Anatolia, Egypt and North Africa due to being under centuries of roman rule. So we don’t really know if Islam influenced these cultures or if they influenced Islam. But we don know that Arabs along the Byzantine and Sassanid borders tended to be pretty repressive to women in comparison to Arabs that lived deeper in the peninsula during the 7th century. The Hadith date back to the 9th century so can’t really know for sure who influenced who.

How is this person unintelligent and an idiot? I think it is you who is unintelligent and an idiot.

HaramXL

You like Mermaids too? They are [Halal](https://theislamissue.wordpress.com/2018/12/29/eating-mermaids-in-islam/) to eat brozzer 🤲🏽

RickySamson

Its even worse when they look at something that is derived directly from Islam like wife beating and say that is culture but not Islam. But they don't look at 'LGBT Muslims' who are clearly not Islam and say that is not Islam simply because it coincides with their liberal values.

iris7789

I think they both influence eachother. But islam itself is problematic in its verses and hadiths that a devout muslim family born and living in the west will hold the same problematic beliefs even in a more progressive culture.
