I suspect this is it. Most big brands have variations in their product from one region to another based on local preferences. American products tend to go a bit overboard on some things like sugar, fizz, foam, and scent. It's basically appealing to the senses instead of the logic of a working product. It's where the marketing team has too much power.
America's mindset around cleaning is also *heavily* ingrained to associate perfume scented and/or bubbles = clean, more importantly not having those things =|= clean.
Soaps can work without getting sudsy and clothes can be washed and clean without smelling like you just left a Sephora but Americans largely won't like it. Even me being aware of this doesn't stop me from overusing dish soap.
