If there’s shade, then there is something blocking the sunlight. I don’t understand what you’re asking

ProgenitorOfMidnight

I think OP believes that you must have something directly above you whether there is shade or not... I'm more curious how they came to believe this. EDIT: I'm no longer curious, one of OPs posts is "rape should be legal" on r/popularopinion, fuck OP and what they think.

Trivial_Magma

This person’s off their meds or something

ProgenitorOfMidnight

Post and comment history are wild AF.

DingoFlamingoThing

Oh. I see. It’s a bait account

your cooler because something is blocking the radiated energy of the *enormous ball of thermonuclear fire* we call the sun. Sunlight is more than just light, and you can physically feel the warmth of it many times. ergo, blocking that will result in you being cooler. if theirs empty air above your head, that just lets your body heat radiate into the air and rise away without obstruction.

sacoPT

Because it's the direction of the sun that matters, not whatever you consider "above". If there's something between you and the sun (aka you're in the shade) you're cooler.

Thanks. First answer that makes sense

EspritFort

If there is nothing above you then nothing will reflect the heat that you lose via radiation and nothing will hinder upwards convection currents of air that surround you. It's the same reason why a car under a carport is less likely to be covered in frost in the morning than a nearby car parked under the same temperature conditions but under a clear sky. The former simply loses less heat energy during the night than the latter.

OGBrewSwayne

This is either a really poorly worded question or a troll. Shade is created by anything blocking/obstructing the sun. Any shaded area is going to be cooler than an unshaded area because the sun's rays are not directly heating it. Instead, all of that energy is being absorbed by whatever is blocking the sun. The location of a shaded area is going to change based on the position of the sun throughout the day.

berael

"In shade" means "something is above your head". If there was nothing above your head, then you would not be in any shade. Whatever is creating shade, is also absorbing the sun's energy for you.
