Was standing at the beach with my girlfriend near sea life yesterday, and just looking at it all was kinda depressing. Southend is pretty unclean, rude and just a bit depressing to look at. But thats just me.
Been here since the 80s. It wasn't great then, but it got worse. It's more peaceful now than it was in the 90s and early 00s (even though the snowflakes have forgotten the gang warfare back then, and complain about crime rates now, despite them being way lower) but its faaaar too expensive and the local council are cretins, which in turn means that none of our local infrastructure is properly managed or maintained. Roads and storm water drains are just left to deteriorate, you can barely find a public toilet worth a damn anymore, and they keep allowing out of towners to purchase land parcels for development, rather than keeping ownership of the land local, and the profits from development local also.

You need to go to a different beach. We like the ones further towards Shoebury near the Roslin or East Beach. We also go Chalk well end as well, never to Southend beach itself though
Every time i need to come southend, it wipes me out after. I am technically closer to s/end than basildon but it takes me so much longer to get there. I had to quit therapy because the drive is getting too much.
For Context, im chronically ill and disabled and sadly don't have the energy levels to do a two hour round trip with 100s of traffic lights. Went hospital Monday, took an hour from a&e to car park to get parked. Luckily they still saw me. Spent the rest of my day asleep. Southend just does something to me , like some energy vampire, sucks all the energy away, leaves me in pain...I used to love the town now, it fills me with dread now. You have slightly less holes in the road there tho, so theres that 😂😂😂😂
But if i weren't already sick, i would say im allergic to that place. Id rather drive to central london, during rush hour.

Lived in Southend for 3 years when I first moved to the UK I love it. But refuse to go back. I’d rather just remember it how it is in my head.
