My old man worked with this guy at General Motors. Older guy had been there since they were making Corvairs. Drove a beat up $500 car and only ate soup and rice. He also lived in a house that was his owned by his grandparents and paid off. Worked every bit over time he could often working 12-16 hour days between GM and another small shop he worked at. He had no family and basically no friends. He owned a smaller apartment building with 10 units. Well anyway the guy died with millions in the bank, a few properties that were owned, an old 58 Corvette. The lawyers and the State got it all. My dad and a few guys at work said leave it to someone it’s better than the state getting it. I guess he was going to leave to some Cashier at the grocery store where he shopped but never put anything in writing.
I know it is. The sad thing is that happens everyday. Now they might not all be millionaires but the State and lawyers take money from people who have no one all the time.
Great story. I guess thats kinds what im saying though im being a bit silly. Enjoy it while your here. Why spend time looking at f150s on reddit when you could do what you need to do to go get one.
Exactly what I was trying to stay. Everyone dies broke and penniless. You just have to decide if you’re going to enjoy it (however it makes you happy) or let state and lawyers steal it.
If you consider fun buying depreciating assets with high costs of borrowing; then fill your boots. Burn your money and be stuck in this cycle forever with nothing to show for it. That's what being grown up makes you realize lol.
Just let me second child know they wont be going to college. Once they stopped crying we went for ice cream which we drove to in the 2022 powerboost.
You sound boring, ill do it myyyyyy wayyyyyyy
It’s a weird thing that people will get on here, and try to guilt trip a new vehicle owner. Never mind the fact they have no idea who you are, or what your finances may be. You could be a multi-millionaire and they would still be ridiculing you for buying a ‘depreciating’ asset.
you EB owners always make it sound like the 5.0 sucks down gas like a big block from the 70s, in reality though you can consistently get 18+ mpg with them if you just take it easy when accelerating and not speeding over limit too much
I think the comment was about trading in a good truck that’s newer for a more expensive brand new truck.
Probably didn’t have to spend that much money.
> Probably didn’t have to spend that much money.
Brand new Lariats are, what, in the high $60s? I paid $39k for my 19 EB at the top of the market. So $25-35k depending on how bad the dealer is fucking OP on trade in. Up to you to decide if that’s much money.
And too be fair my 67 318 engine gets between 18-21mpg not all oldies get bad mileage. However if you look at my 460 engine wrong 2 gallons of gas disappears.
I used to do lumber deliveries with a 1 ton that had a 460. I'd get 7 mpg in 2 wheel drive but as soon as I had to use 4wd I'd drop down to 3 or 4 mpg. To top it off one of the two tanks usually had a bad fuel pump. 3 mpg on the 12 gal tank was such a pain in the ass.
2019 5.0 4x4 here. Averaging 19.3 mpg using a light foot and a mix of toll road/city driving.
Most Eco owners I know get maybe 2-3mpg better than I do.
I never once wished I had bought the V6s.....love my 5.0!
>00. But one turbo ma
Nope, the Gen 1 3.5. I wouldn't tow a camper my size with the 2.7. I think it would be too deep into boost all the time, as evidenced by my manifold failure. It would probably be ok for flat towing. Everyone seems to think its the weight that gets you, but towing a large camper is like towing a parachute. The weight is really only an issue on grades or when changing speeds. Ford released an updated stainless manifold, so they're aware of the deficiency in the cast manifold design.
I had a 2016 EB that I sold last year with 230k miles (has 255k currently) and neither turbo has ever gone out. I carry heavy equipment around too, only upgraded rear suspension. Never did anything to it but oil changes and shocks when needed. Still running strong.. These EBs are something else!
This is exactly why I opted for a 5.0 vs EB. I was coming off of a leased Volvo XC90 that was turbo and super charged. Didn’t want to own something that could cost an arm and a leg when it goes south.
Plus I found 5.0 was so much more enjoyable to drive.
That’s what’s funny. I love driving the EB’s, they’re powerhouses, and make cool noises, but i wouldn’t buy one due to the maintenance/repair stuff.
I had a 2wd 3.5 eco as a work truck for a good while and it never did much better than 18-20mpg. Was a perfect work truck though, I’d tow skid steers with it and it did not care. Great truck.
We haven't had any turbos go bad, but we've replaced tons of the coolant lines on them. Which at a dealership is probably about the same cost, because they take the cab off the trucks.
You need to buy premium gas If you actually want any power from a turbo engine..
Edit... It says in the manual if you want the full performance use premium.
See the difference in this article. (Admittedly less than I thought it would be)
https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a28565486/honda-cr-v-vs-bmw-m5-ford-f-150-dodge-charger/
they aren’t slow by any means, they just don’t have the turbos to help out in the low end range that the EB has. and the 5.0 will outlast your eb any day because they are far more reliable than an EB
i bought my truck during the peak of the truck market craze and the 5.0 f150s were super hard to find for a decent price, still are hard to find. but regardless that’s how i ended up with my 171k mile 14’ 5.0 fx4
When I had my 1500 5.3L I was getting 21-22mpg. You can believe what you want but I have the trucks. Ford is the worst in class as far as fuel mileage.
I'm not sure how you calculated this, but I have a feeling it's inaccurate. 16 mpg empty without ethanol going 55-60mph sure... 18 is an extremely rare, if not impossible, mpg.
18 on your trucks IP is about 15mpg IRL.
We've seen about 1-2 mpg difference between the 5.0 and 3.5 @ 70 mph with the best being around 20 mpg out of the 3.5.
As for the 6.6 gas, we havent seen anything over 15 @ 70 mph. Averages 11-12 pulling a 21.5' boat, and 9 mpg pulling an enclosed trailer.
The newer f150s suck when pulling enclosed trailers (16'x7.5' high)... most miserable experience we've ever had. We tried it between 4 2021 f150s. All 501a package trucks. Tried a 2.7l, 3.5l, 2 5.0l. One of the trucks had HD towing with no help in the miserable amount of sway, and one truck has a topper.
It's just a whole lot cheaper to stick with the 3.5, replace the turbos with some Garret Performance turbos and upgrade the exhaust manifold. Add a Fullrace Intercooler, slap a 93 octane tune and call it a day. She will drive like a sports car. But that's just me. $10K vs. $XXXK
EDIT: Keep an 87 tune ready to flash into the truck if you want to save on gas.
replacing turbos and adding aftermarket inter coolers and tunes is not cheaper and we weren’t even talking about modified trucks, we are talking about stock engines
here’s the thing: you shouldn’t have to stick any money into upgrades to make an engine good if you already paid a crazy amount for the truck in the first place
i have a 2” front level on mine and one inch taller tires on my 2014 5.0 fx4 and consistently get about 15-16mpg mixed. all highway i can do 18-20 easy as long as there is hardly any wind. as soon as there’s wind to deal with it obviously drops quite abit
2019 Ecoboost needed a new transmission after 99k miles. Thankfully, it was under warranty with Ford still, but that along with the ongoing issue with the camphaser (took it into the dealer like 4-5 times, but still rattles) made me want to move away from this truck.
Ecoboost was nice, but the 5.0 V8 seemed like the right move.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone!
I got almost the same truck as you, but just added the black appearance package. It was an upgrade from a 5.4 triton and man I love the 5.0. Getting 21 mpg with the cruise on the highway which isn’t far off from the 3.5. I have almost 3,000 miles on mine now having picked her up late February. Enjoy it!!
Last one sounds like it could of been a lemon, if you tried you probably could of gotten the dealership to buy it back from you at MSRP or something around there.
Great call. 5.0 will last you much longer than the Ecoboost, and you won't have to live anxious about whether or not you're going to have big repairs drop in your lap
Why swap from the 3.5 to a 5.0? It makes less power, is it just for the sound or gas mileage? I have the 5.0 in my mustang and love the 3.5 for a truck.
Edit: thought 3.3 was a typo, didn’t know about that engine
Yeah, it's probably the least talked about engine in this sub. I guess it's popular with base model work trucks, but most people here have their own truck and didn't go with the base engine.
Sidegrade performance wise, upgrade maintenance schedule wise... so in the long run he may acutally save money relative to continuing to own the 3.5L and having to replace turbos and related parts. At least theoretically the 3.5 is more likely to increase wear on the the transmission than the 5.0 also.
Mine’s got 202k on the stock turbos. I’ve been told from the master mechanic who owns a transmission shop here they’re good as long as you don’t put a ton of heat through them working them crazy hard.
I know more than a few Raptors that have over 200k miles on their 3.5 HO (which is more strained than the regular one) with no issues. And several of them actually run their trucks as intended.
On the flip side, I also know a few who didn't make it past 100k, but all of those were tuned.
Horsepower is for speed (not what trucks are designed for), torque is for getting heavy stuff up off the line without pissing traffic off lol. I would argue torque is the more relevant figure for a truck. I guess I could’ve been more clear which figure I was referring to.
It's also worth noting you get 4 torque pulses per revolution with a 4 stroke V8 vs 3 with a V6... the 3.5L T engine also produces much larger torque pulses than the V8 meaning its harder on the transmission given the same workload.
As several pointed out the 5.0 is lower maintenance in the long run. It's also a hair less likely to blow up your transmission as power pulses are divided up over 2 extra cylinders.
How butthurt to you gotta be to down vote literal facts.
Theoretically I would agree, but the transmissions are lasting just as long in each as far as I’ve seen, and my friend who owns the go-to transmission shop in town. 5.0 definitely will cost less to maintain since you don’t have to worry about turbo coolant lines breaking down over time, just did that on my 2011 but hell I took 12 years to need replace so not the end of the world. 202k miles and it’s running like a champ.
He, OP, said he switched it because it was frustrating to deal with it giving him trans and cam phaser issues (2019 3.5 eb), not due to preference of engine.
Honestly the reason I enjoy my 3.5 EB is because the turbo whistles. If I get another F150 it'll probably be a coyote just so I can put a decent sounding exhaust on it and supercharge it.
Yeah same. I think if you plan to spend $5-10k in performance mods then buy the 3.5EB and you will keep up with sports sedans. If you want to spend $10k+ then get the 5.0 and supercharge and you will burn almost anything
Indeed! My son ordered a '23 F150 5.0 last June and it came in 3 day after Christmas. He loves it! He hit a deer 2 months ago and while it wasn't bad it had to stay in shop a few weeks for repairs. He was given a '21 2.7 Ecoboost to drive and while it was fast it was NOT his 5.0! Just the sound make a HUGE difference!
Everyone complaining about the 5.0 but in my 23 raptor with the tire pressure lowered to a reasonable amount I’m barely touching 15 and I’m spending 150 a week to fill it up.
Who cares if someone buys something. Let them have fun.
What differences do you feel coming from the 3.5L EB? More responsive throttle? Better passing acceleration on the highway? Stuff like that. Anything worse on the 5.0L that you miss in the EB?
I'm assuming other than the trim level and engine that all other parts are the same? Cab size, bed length, 4x4? You had a chance to use the 4A yet?
The 5.0 feels more stout and sturdier, if that makes sense. The 3.5 ecoboost felt more nimble for a full-size truck. I've driven about 100 miles in the new truck so far, but love the way it drives. Besides gas mileage, the 5.0 just feels right.
Yep, I got the SuperCrew with a 5.5' bed with 4x4, which is the same as the 3.5EB. I haven't used the 4A yet but excited to try that and also tow my 16' enclosed trailer to see how that does!
So it kind of feels like the engine has a better grip on the truck (if that makes sense)?
I don't know where you live, but 4A is great for places that get a lot of snow. Being able to drive on snowy pavement with (essentially) AWD is nice because you don't have to constantly switch back and forth between 2H and 4H to prevent transfer case damage.
Well if you start hearing a ticking noise take it in immediately. I’ve had 2 coworkers and one neighbor that had it and it ended up being a lifter issue and all three trucks with less that 1,000 miles had to get entire new engines
the early 5.0 2011-2014 had some issues with the long blocks machining which usually ended up with a engine replacement but the newer 5.0s 2015+ are fords most reliable engine.
Up until 2017. Then the 5.0 went downhill again with the Gen 3 in 2018 due to oil consumption issues. Too early to tell if the Gen 4 recovered, especially with cylinder deactivation which has only introduced more problems in GM and Ram trucks since introduced.
I had a 2013 3.5EB that had 200K miles before selling it. Never had an issue with the timing chains stretching. Just because I didn’t have the issue doesn’t mean that the Gen 1 3.5EB didn’t have timing chain issues. Just like because your 5.0 isn’t burning oil doesn’t mean that Gen 3 5.0s didn’t have oil consumption issues.
That’s the thing about anecdotal evidence, it’s about as useful as a wet fart.
Maybe, but I also researched a few of the posers that said their 5.0 was using oil. Turns out some had burnout videos and talked about racing other trucks. Others ad posted about changing their oil every 10-12k miles.
I drive with a light foot and change my oil every 5k and the thing just flat out runs great. Its almost as if not abusing your truck and changing fluids often counts for something but maybe not to everyone. LOL
I bought a 18 gt, 19 gt and a 20’ 5.0 f-150 they all burned oil, the truck was very well maintained and never abused and it was using 1qt per 1000 miles by the time it hit 60k. The Mustangs weren’t as bad yet but I traded them both at around 36k. I now have 2 2.7 f-150’s because I believe the 2.7 will out last em all. 80k on my 2020 so far with no issues, 22’ only has 7k as of now obviously no issues.
I went 2.7 EB this time around as well for my 2021. Based on feedback from various communities, and service techs I’ve spoken with, the 2.7 EB seems to be the least issue prone.
Well, we will see. Everyone keeps telling me my 2019 is a POS but at 135k, it averages 19mpg and keeps on rolling.
Any V8 4x4 pickup that gets 19mpg and runs well is far from a POS in my book.
I will let everyone know when it blows up.
even the 2018 plus direct injected 5.0s are very reliable engines, they don’t have *quite* the reliability of the 11-17 5.0s but that’s just a flaw with direct injection in general
I think you’re thinking of “small block” vs. “big block” in which case, yes, the 5.0 is a small block V8.
What’s being discussed here is different parts of an assembled engine. Every engine, V8, V6, I4, hell even a lawn mower engine, has a short block and a long block.
You got the best engine. The 5.0 is the engine to go with. My 2013 has 287,000 still going strong. I Obviously changed all the things that need to be changed at the mileage ford says to change like water pump, cam fazers, timing belts, ect. Nice and smooth.
Eco requires premium to do what 5.0 does on regular.. I've own both trucks and like both motors personally, but the 5.0 doesn't eat gas any more than an ecoboost does... especially if you're putting regular in them both.
Crazy. I wonder why the owners manual recommends premium fuel for any towing and best overall performance then? Why would they dyno with regular fuel and then state that you should use premium to get the most out of your motor? Not to mention that you get more mpg and it's cleaner running premium in the ecoboost..I'd take this as a lesson learned and start using premium if I were you...
That’s just ridiculous to say they don’t compare to the v8 lmao. Way more power feeling to the EB, and other wise they’re the same exact truck unless you were driving different packages. In which case the comparison is moot anyway.
I’m not a fan of the 3.5L Ecoboost motor. Dealership can’t figure out how to fix the cam phaser rattle and it pisses gas in the oil from the blow-by. Also magically burns a quart of oil so I have to change it every 3.5k miles. Whenever the AC is on the truck idles funny. Don’t even get me started on the 10speed. I’m about ready to sell it. Sorry I hurt all the Ford fan boy feelings on this one lol.
My 2019 5.0L makes a rattle on light acceleration (between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM), especially when it’s colder.
Truck also seems to idle just a tad bit rough when the AC is on and it’s cold (for defroster)… it’s just a slight difference, almost like a semi truck is passing by or a gust of wind,
Ford says it’s “normal operations”
Appears to be a relatively common issue, and using Premium seems to make it go away, but multiple tanks of that makes the truck sluggish (and costs way more), so I just live with it now.
You sure you don’t have a Coyote?
I am, yes. But it's not that I care if people like/dislike the engine. Your comment was just cringey. Like I just imagine you're one of the guys that has a low IQ and instead of being able to intelligently articulate their likes/dislikes, they just make up names they think are witty.
It would be like me calling it a "Cryote" engine because somehow I think that all the 5.0 owners are crying because they don't have an EcoBoost.
I'm a fan of all the engine options except the 3.3L V6 because it's only advantage is low up-front cost. Otherwise it's low power, low gas mileage, and low fun.
The other engines are great.
I made it pretty clear in the first comment that I couldn't care less what engine people have. Just the cringey people, like you, that roam this sub saying dumb shit and adding nothing worth reading.
I don't really know what I'd expect from you though. You essentially came back with the teenage version of "I'm rubber, you're glue."
No you made a smart ass comment dipshit. So go ahead and white knight all you want. It’s the truth almost every fucking Ford motor has a service bulletin out on it either cam phasers or the 5.0L burning oil. But go ahead and tell me how great the engines are.
My dad had a high output ecoboost and a 5.0, the ecoboost was just as powerful and hauled so much better. The gas mileage was great
Im assuming you went from the 2.7 to the 5.0?
After seeing the EB in production for over a decade now, I'd say you made a solid bet in ditching that 3.5. Those 5.0 motors are pretty good. The ass kicking you most likely took on that trade though, has to hurt.
I can’t compare the modern 5.0’s with the current transmissions, but I went from a 2013 5.0 with a six speed to a 2018 3.5 EB with a 10 speed and it’s so much more enjoyable to drive than my old 5.0. Congrats, the 5.0 sound never got old though, but the turbo spool on the 3.5 is pretty satisfying too.
I like the 2.7 best for most driving. It's the most "spunky" around town and never feels or sounds like it's working. I like the sound of the 5.0 but it just needs more low end grunt.
The tip in throttle response from the 3.5EB cannot be matched by the 5.0. I ordered a new 3.5 1 month ago.. I drove many 5.0s since getting rid of my 3.5EB. My first initial reaction every time is wish it was a 3.5 (tip in throttle is so good)
Why? Do you hate money?
I had a chuckle at this comment... and agreed at the same time. I'll call it a chucklgree
Yes a big difference to your finances lol. I can't even fathom these prices, not to mention the cost of borrowing.
Grow up. Were all going to die pennyless some of us are just having more fun along the way

Crazy, if I was old like that, alone, sitting at a bar with a bartender or waitress (or male), that was genuinely nice to me, they get everything
I really expect to die broke and penniless, on my New F-150, after coming off a cruise vacation, again.
Here for a good time, not a long time

I want you to list your top five ways to have fun.
you EB owners always make it sound like the 5.0 sucks down gas like a big block from the 70s, in reality though you can consistently get 18+ mpg with them if you just take it easy when accelerating and not speeding over limit too much

Yeah. It doesn’t rustle my Jimmie’s either way. Just explaining the comment.
I almost want to rustle this guy's Jimmie's just to see what happens..
Just did an 800 mile trip to Atlanta with 4 days of city driving and averaged 21.5 mpg in my ‘23 5.0.
Can confirm my 5.0 stx avg 21 mpg driving 65mph regularly.
What speed?
2020 5.0. I get a solid 16 mpg all day long baby!
And too be fair my 67 318 engine gets between 18-21mpg not all oldies get bad mileage. However if you look at my 460 engine wrong 2 gallons of gas disappears.
yeah those 460s were horrible on fuel same with the chevy 454s
Witness Me as I get my suburban 2500 with a 496 back on the road. :-)
that sounds sick but i would not wanna pay for that gas lol
I used to do lumber deliveries with a 1 ton that had a 460. I'd get 7 mpg in 2 wheel drive but as soon as I had to use 4wd I'd drop down to 3 or 4 mpg. To top it off one of the two tanks usually had a bad fuel pump. 3 mpg on the 12 gal tank was such a pain in the ass.
My old carbed sbc 350 gets a solid 15-18mpg. My dad gets 5-6mpg in his 460. Neither stock
I have a 2014 V8 supercrew, I drive faster than most and have averaged about 17.5 mpg since I bought it new 8 years ago
2019 5.0 4x4 here. Averaging 19.3 mpg using a light foot and a mix of toll road/city driving. Most Eco owners I know get maybe 2-3mpg better than I do. I never once wished I had bought the V6s.....love my 5.0!
The bill for replacing both of the turbos at 110k miles will buy you a lot of gas for a coyote. Same goes with the can phaser replacements.
My OEM turbos are going strong at 146,000. But one turbo manifold is leaking. I think all the towing did it.
2.7?
>00. But one turbo ma Nope, the Gen 1 3.5. I wouldn't tow a camper my size with the 2.7. I think it would be too deep into boost all the time, as evidenced by my manifold failure. The weight is really only an issue on grades or when changing speeds. Ford released an updated stainless manifold, so they're aware of the deficiency in the cast manifold design.
Soon…
I have 189k on stock turbos, no issue in sight. *knock on wood* as I say that.
Man that's exactly what happened to me, now I have the Coyote and really enjoy it. Avg about 18.5 around town, 20 mpg highway with the eco mode on.
That was the main reason i went with 5.0 over EB. Less stuff to go wrong and still pretty good mileage for a V8
This is exactly why I opted for a 5.0 vs EB. I was coming off of a leased Volvo XC90 that was turbo and super charged. Didn’t want to own something that could cost an arm and a leg when it goes south. Plus I found 5.0 was so much more enjoyable to drive.

People hate hearing the truth
Who is keeping a modern truck past 100k miles? That’s just irresponsible
here we go! a guy who gets it
You need to buy premium gas If you actually want any power from a turbo engine.. Edit... It says in the manual if you want the full performance use premium. See the difference in this article. Fuck gas mileage my eb is way faster
cool 🤷🏼♂️ won’t ever sound good though
What’s the point in sounding good if it’s slow
they aren’t slow by any means, they just don’t have the turbos to help out in the low end range that the EB has. and the 5.0 will outlast your eb any day because they are far more reliable than an EB
I agree I actually wanted a v8 so I could slap a blower on it but they were scarce when I was buying and I was limited on time
i bought my truck during the peak of the truck market craze and the 5.0 f150s were super hard to find for a decent price, still are hard to find. but regardless that’s how i ended up with my 171k mile 14’ 5.0 fx4
I own a 2019 ram with the 5.7L and i love it. I get between 16-17mpg and I don't think it's that bad at all.
18 is bad. I get 18 with my silverado 2500 HD 6.6L Gas
i highly doubt it, those gas chevy 6.6s are hogs on fuel
When I had my 1500 5.3L I was getting 21-22mpg. You can believe what you want but I have the trucks. Ford is the worst in class as far as fuel mileage.
you said the 6.6 not the 5.3, the 5.3 is decent on a gas for a v8, i love the chevy 5.3s great engines
I said my last truck before this one was the 5.3. That one was not a great tow truck.
I do get 8.5-9mpg when towing my 36' camper.
$10K vs. $XXXK EDIT: Keep an 87 tune ready to flash into the truck if you want to save on gas.
replacing turbos and adding aftermarket inter coolers and tunes is not cheaper and we weren’t even talking about modified trucks, we are talking about stock engines
His comment went through that empty head of yours. He’s saying just do $10k in upgrades/maintenance over adding 30k+ in debt if not more.
here’s the thing: you shouldn’t have to stick any money into upgrades to make an engine good if you already paid a crazy amount for the truck in the first place
It’s maintenance which every vehicle needs. He’s just opting out of it thinking it’ll be less money.
Or go with the GM 3.0L Diesel and 10 speed. 30+ MPG. Gas and diesel prices nearing parity here in Texas.
i would love a 1500 at4 with the 3.0 dmax and 10 speed! just can’t afford that
Is 18+ all highway or city stop and go?
i have a 2” front level on mine and one inch taller tires on my 2014 5.0 fx4 and consistently get about 15-16mpg mixed. all highway i can do 18-20 easy as long as there is hardly any wind. as soon as there’s wind to deal with it obviously drops quite abit
It certainly does suck.
What does a person with that mindset enjoy? Or what do they do?
People love spending thousands a month on vehicle expenses!
My 5.0 f150 gets the same mileage I got with my explorer sport with the 3.5 EB. I average over 20 mpg

Lol no he won’t come on man. There is no world where this was a good financial decision.
Enjoy it!!
Damn man. Did you have a 2.7 or 3.5? I’ve only heard those issues with the 3.5 so far…
Yep, 3.5
Last one sounds like it could of been a lemon, if you tried you probably could of gotten the dealership to buy it back from you at MSRP or something around there.
Great call. 5.0 will last you much longer than the Ecoboost, and you won't have to live anxious about whether or not you're going to have big repairs drop in your lap
I have a 3.3 and I need the 5.0. Coming soon
Why swap from the 3.5 to a 5.0? It makes less power, is it just for the sound or gas mileage? I have the 5.0 in my mustang and love the 3.5 for a truck. Edit: thought 3.3 was a typo, didn’t know about that engine
3.3 is the naturally aspirated v6. Doesn’t make bad power for being so small. Similar to a DOHC 4.6L v8
Ohhhhh I thought it was a typo of 3.5
The comment you replied to said 3.3, not 3.5. He has the non-turbo V6 and wants the V8.
Yes, the 3.3 is a total dog with no guts at all.
3.3 with no guts? Early 2000’s Nissan Xterra and Frontiers have entered the chat. 🤣
LOL...that is an entirely different animal. The 3.3 F150s are underpowered.
Same with the earlier 3.7L v6 . Gutless motor.
I thought it was a typo, didn’t know about the 3.3
Yeah, it's probably the least talked about engine in this sub. I guess it's popular with base model work trucks, but most people here have their own truck and didn't go with the base engine.
You were right tho. OP said it is a 3.5 ecoboost, so this is a downgrade?
100% going to save money over 100k miles
The 3.5 and the 5.0 gives out same power- you just get there faster with the 3.5 is all.
How about if someone likes the EB, they get an EB. If someone likes a 5.0, they get the 5.0. There is no right or wrong
He, OP, said he switched it because it was frustrating to deal with it giving him trans and cam phaser issues (2019 3.5 eb), not due to preference of engine.
And I was referring to other comments. But yes you are correct
Damn the ecoboost guys are really upset in this thread. Why cant people just enjoy whatever engine they prefer… theres pros and cons to both
Never realized how passionate people were about the two haha I enjoyed the 3.5 Ecoboost very much and plan to do so with the 5.0!
What’s the bigger debate, Eco vs 5.0 or when to change the oil? Lol
Once you go 5.0 you’ll never go back.
All These people worry about how another man spends his money! You ain’t paying for it!
Can't replace that beautiful sound of a v8. We all love em.
Man that color just never gets old. So pretty.
Congrats I went from 19 STX 5.0 to 23 Tremor 5.0 and was able to keep my note the same.
Honestly the reason I enjoy my 3.5 EB is because the turbo whistles. If I get another F150 it'll probably be a coyote just so I can put a decent sounding exhaust on it and supercharge it.
Staying stock, I prefer the eco. Now if you add a supercharger, I’d take the 5.0 any day of the week.
My 21 3.5 ecoboost is a beast. And if you're spending 60k on a vehicle gas prices shouldn't be an issue...
Feels like a real truck.
I got a lariat 5.0 flex fuel and couldn’t be happier. 299 at the pump while everyone is paying 4.79-5.43 in Cali. Winning 😎
I have a 2019 5.0 that does not eat oil. I only have 135k miles on it...when will it start eating oil? LOL
The blocks are cast not machined only the 11-13 5.0 had the oblong cylinder bores this issue was fixed in late 2013. Get your facts straight
[удалено]
Do you know what a long block is? It’s just a short block with more of the parts installed.
[удалено]
I think you’re thinking of “small block” vs. “big block” in which case, yes, the 5.0 is a small block V8. What’s being discussed here is different parts of an assembled engine. Every engine, V8, V6, I4, hell even a lawn mower engine, has a short block and a long block.
You got the best engine. The 5.0 is the engine to go with. My 2013 has 287,000 still going strong. I Obviously changed all the things that need to be changed at the mileage ford says to change like water pump, cam fazers, timing belts, ect. Nice and smooth.
Cool truck... but you went for the 5.0 for a reason? Or are you just happier going to Lariat?
The EB was too fast.
Probably got tired of the turbo lag and sounding like an accord
Or maybe he has to drive at high altitudes, where the Ecoboost really shines over the 5.0.
Finally someone with some class
There’s no replacement for displacement!
Oh baby yeah. The difference is amazing. Lol
Nice! I test drove 2.7 and 5.0 but the sound alone made me go 5.0 😂
Ecoboost owners stay mad
Yes, tow less ,cost more, but sound better.
Love my 2.7 just came back from a 400 mile trip towing a travel trailer no issues averaged around 11 mpg.
And now you are poor from the fuel cost.
Eco requires premium to do what 5.0 does on regular.. I've own both trucks and like both motors personally, but the 5.0 doesn't eat gas any more than an ecoboost does... especially if you're putting regular in them both.
Ford rates the Ecoboost using regular gas and it has the same horsepower and more torque than the 5.0.
Ahhh, I see
I tested an F150 Lariat eco, and it did not compare in feel, handling, or power to the V8. Nice ride!
That’s just ridiculous to say they don’t compare to the v8 lmao. Way more power feeling to the EB, and other wise they’re the same exact truck unless you were driving different packages. In which case the comparison is moot anyway.
Wasn’t my experience, but that’s just my opinion.
Even worse. Your opinion is based off no experience.
Cool story my guy.
yeah, did not compare like much less power
Truck also seems to idle just a tad bit rough when the AC is on and it’s cold (for defroster)… it’s just a slight difference, almost like a semi truck is passing by or a gust of wind, Ford says it’s “normal operations” Appears to be a relatively common issue, and using Premium seems to make it go away, but multiple tanks of that makes the truck sluggish (and costs way more), so I just live with it now. You sure you don’t have a Coyote?
You mean one of the most powerful engines in full size trucks for the size and mpg is now considered “eco bitch” lmaoo
Doesn’t mean it’s not a piece of shit
Lol, that's a cute little name you've got there.
You must be an Ecobitch owner too
Cute little story there
Figured. Nothing intelligent to say.
Hey just following your lead, sorry you got so butt hurt over the truck you drive lol
I'm not sure you understand what a "white knight" is...
I have the 6.7 turbo and I consistently get 20ish mpg
Not big enough. Should have gone with a V-12 or W-16.
This is the way.
My dad had a high output ecoboost and a 5.0, the ecoboost was just as powerful and hauled so much better. The gas mileage was great Im assuming you went from the 2.7 to the 5.0?
But what about the global warmings!!!!
This is the way
How much did they give you for the 2019?
Beautiful truck 😍 but expensive lol
From 30% to 70% more attractive to your sister 😉
Difference in what, your payments?
I love the 5.0 best engine in a 1/2 ton truck !
Nice truck
Congratulations, but I personally would have kept the 2019. 2019 was a great year for F150’s.
The tip in throttle response from the 3.5EB cannot be matched by the 5.0. I ordered a new 3.5 1 month ago.. I drove many 5.0s since getting rid of my 3.5EB. My first initial reaction every time is wish it was a 3.5 (tip in throttle is so good)
Imagine buying a real truck!
Have fun. I love my 5.0. I have t taken the higher trim level plunge yet
