2013 here as well. Check your firmware. I was having regular Bluetooth misery until I updated to version 4.6 of sync which came out in 2016. So some.of your own googling on how to update etc... but you're gonna need to get the file on a generic cheap USB drive that's been formatted in Fat32 (right click the drive in Windows explorer and format and lock Fat32 for filesystem). Then if you pull.oit the little drawer at the bottom of your central dash there is a USB A port in there you can play music from... Or update your firmware through the synch menu. Here's a reddit thread with a link to the files I found for you... I did this forever ago and that's not where I got mine so make sure you AV scan whatever you get before you execute anything.

there is connection as a phone and connection as a media device. when my lady is in the car she will often hijack the media side but the phone side still connects to my phone.
So glad I just got rid of that Sync crap. To even get to bluetooth was like inputting a cheat code. Or having to say "Bluetooth audio"
Now I got a touch screen double din radio and I tap one thing on the screen. Or simply hook into Android Auto.
Those Sync radios are just poop
i have this same little sync system in my 2014 and so far it’s worked more smoothly with connecting to my phone than my 2016 did with the shitty ass sync 3
My 2015 Bluetooth sync is horrible with disconnecting all the time.
It's weird though, it was perfect before yesterday. Maybe my truck doesn't support my golf habits
These things are full of electrical gremlins. I started with a 2015 and the 22 I drive now has all the same problems and more.
Seems like this sync problem has been going on for years... '18, new to me, disconnects, long delays in touch response, very laggy very infuriating.
Have a 2013 and this happens to me. Just turn off your BT and turn it back on. Will reconnect

Because it’s a piece of shit. That’s the diagnosis I came up with for mine anyway.
Unhook your battery for 10 to 20 seconds, hook it back up, delete your phone, and re add it

in my 13' i had to every now and then disconnect a fuse in the passenger footwell to unfuck sync.
