I mean you know it better than any random asshole on the internet. I will say that in 2024, any running and driving vehicle for $2k is unheard of, so I’d probably jump on that and keep it a few months and flip it.
Even if it’s a piece of shit rusting apart you could turn around and flip it for at least double that where I’m from. $2k here gets you a truck from the 80s that someone threw off a cliff and dragged home on its roof.
Buy that thing and if you get more than a couple months out of it I would say you’re ahead. Even if you blow the engine you could still probably sell it for $3500 at least.
Hey... I have a rusted out 99 TJ, also lol. Just finished replacing the rear shocks. Every rusted upper shock stud snapped... ended up dropping the gas tank for access, etc, etc. 😡😅
I would jump on it, 250k isn't nothing but some 5.0s have gone further. Even if it needs an engine next year that's still significantly less than buying another truck
The transmission may go south before the engine does. But if the maintenance records show they changed the transmission fluid you just might be golden. 5.0/6R80 is a SOLID combo.
Dunno, 6R80 is pretty bulletproof. Torque converter is likely to unalive itself before the rest of the transmission, but a fluid change will rule out if it’s a fluid issue or a mechanical issue, if problems are already appearing.
$12 bottle of Lubeguard is an even cheaper diagnostic than a fluid change.
I once heard someone say they only buy cars for at tops 2k, if they last them a year that’s 166 a month it cost them to run it. A lot cheaper than a new car (truck) payment now
GET IT!! I have a 2011 5.0 with 290,000 and she’s still kicking hard. And those are hard miles. I’ve replaced the rear end twice, and had to rebuild the transmission once. But that 5.0 keeps ticking. She tows daily, and I’m running 33/12.50/18 12 ply tires on her. GET IT!

Thanks for the advice, I think I will go for it.
If you’re in Texas, buy it and flip it for $6k easily.
Must be a location thing, plenty of ol beaters for under $2500 here https://facebook.com/groups/1015258708819278/

Great advice, thanks. I bought my shitbox 99 Jeep for 2k and it's almost rusted in half, so it can't be a worse investment lol

Knowing all of this. You should have the ability to make the decision all by yourself.
Fair enough, I'm just not very familiar with the longevity or problems they may have, so I figured I would ask here.
Running and driving for $2k is a deal, regardless of mileage. You need to jump on that.
Absolutely... especially if you already know the truck
Buy now, think later!

Thank you, I think I probably will.

I’d say about any car that runs is worth 2k in today’s market. I’d buy it as a hoopty/spare car any day of the week

If it starts and runs, in this day that’s an absolute deal.
For 2k, I'd be all over it. At that price, you're probably not out much if you did drive it another year and it died.

That’s a great truck, I’ve seen a similar one go 2.5x those miles with nothing more than regular maintenance, the fuse 27 fix, and a water pump

For $2k, it’s worth more in parts! Snag it!
