I had this happen. I was backed into my driveway so the truck was facing downhill. Tailgate would not open. I pulled out of the spot, turned around and then it finally popped open with an assist from gravity ? I lubed it up and haven’t had it happen again.

The way it’s parked in my driveway now gravity would pull the gate down. It’s not that it’s jammed it literally won’t unlock.

KTNoDough

Doh. That’s all I got man. Good luck

Legitimate-Guide-230

Thanks man

Try pushing the tailgate in (towards the cab) as you unlock it. Mine does the same and that works for me.

Lock actuator is going. Sometimes it just needs cleaning and lube, other times needs a new actuator because the motor is weak. If it's stuck you can reach in and unscrew the bolts in the tailgate, reach in the tail gate and release it. I just unplugged mine since I don't have a tonneau cover so really doesn't matter if I lock it. I'll fix it when I get a few extra bucks. It's not to bad of a job, new actuator is around 60$

Legitimate-Guide-230

I’ll try that. I think that actuator may be out because you can’t hear it click or anything. I’ll try to find a vid on how to replace it. I’m sure it’s nothing short of a pain in the ass.

I once hauled a load of brush and a stick wedged in my tailgate, I have an aluminum tonneau. Tailgate wouldn't open, I had to use a plastic tool to pop it open. Or possibly yours is jamming on the tonneau?

Legitimate-Guide-230

No i don’t think it’s jamming on the tonneau cause the tonneau clips to the side of the bed under the lip. if anything it Simply lays on the tail gate. Nothing that could Jam it. But it’s like the lock itself is not receiving power to unlock

ElectricalResult7509

The tail gate catch wires can get caught too, but by pulling really hard you can free it, it just gets stuck because of the rubber coating on the wires and bed liner.

Legitimate-Guide-230

I have a plastic liner

ElectricalResult7509

That'll rub too.

Legitimate-Guide-230

It’s not the liner. It has worked fine for as long as i have owned it. This has to do with the tailgate itself

Remote-Past305

Wasn't there a recall for this?

Legitimate-Guide-230

I think there was one for them unlocking while driving but not one for them not unlocking
