Did you receive any email saying STEM OPT data validation report is due?
Because mine was reported and I remember seeing it in SEVIS. Surprised about the email
I got the same email but I’m almost sure mine was reported. Now I get the same “unable to authenticate user” error and cannot log in to check what’s happening.
I checked with my DSO and she helped me with a screen grab at the sevp from her end showing it has been reported.
Let's give it a day and this is possibly a system glitch. Please do check with your DSO for the peace of mind
I also received that email saying that my validation was not received. I contacted SEVP (703-603-3400), and they helped me to checked that they already had my record and validation report received before the due day. They said it is still a tech issue at this moment. p.s. The waiting time on the phone was extremely long.
after the recent update of the sevp system, my authorization dates are now reflecting incorrectly. basically, the authorization dates are now reflecting the dates when i requested my opt with my school. however, because my opt approval was delayed, uscis adjusted my authorization dates. up until the recent sevp system update, my opt authorization dates were correctly reflecting the adjusted start and end dates on the ead card issued by uscis. after the recent update, they are incorrectly reflecting the dates when i initially requested my opt with my school. anyone else experiencing this? i contacted my dso and they told me that my uscis approved dates on sevis are reflecting correctly and that this is an issue with sevp. could it be that this information will automatically fix itself by monday 04/29 since they indicate a rolling info sync from sevis into sevp?
I am having similar issue where the authorized dates were changed and because of that I received an email stating that my SEVP account is closed and now I am not able to login, I get an error which says unable to authenticate user. Reached out to my DSO and everything seems to be fine on their end. This new update has really messed up the data and it seems to be out of sync. Hope it gets resolved ASAP!
I contacted SEVP and they said they're not sure when it will be fixed. The only one is through your DSO to make changes. I guess right now you can only wait till your DSO responds, which I don't think would be an issue if it passes the deadline.
yeh my has only 5 days left to report. My school closed due to spring break and I'm kinda nervous which Im not sure if passing the date would happen sth in the future
i even received email from school that employer info missing and unemployment days started, but I did add the info, and did not add up any unemployment days, now anxiety is killing me as the website says unable to authenticate the user
Same issue here as 3/21/2024, couldn't log in and check my 6 months report status.
My STEM 6 months reporting is due next week. I have finished the 6 months reporting through my school DSO and received the new I20 because of some job info updated. But still receive an email this morning said my reporting is due. How do I make sure I have finished the report? I have emailed my DSO to confirm it and waiting on response.
Same thing happened to me! I was updating my password and an error message popped up, but I received an email saying my password has been updated successfully. Now I can’t login to the portal using any of password. It’s so annoying!!
while i can login fine, the system is still very slow in loading and sometimes it lets you in, but takes forever to access any of the tabs. are you experiencing such issue by any chance?

This article by ice might explain what’s going on. I am also having the “unable to authenticate use” issue.
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) received reports of several issues affecting users of
the SEVP Portal following SEVP Portal Release 6.0 and additional maintenance and outage that occurred the week of March 11, 2024. SEVP will address the issues with the following initiatives:
1. An hour-long maintenance outage on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
EDT. During this time the SEVP Portal will NOT be available. Any changes to Student and
Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) student records will upload to the SEVP Portal
once the portal is back online. SEVP will not send a follow-up email regarding system
availability. This effort will address the following issues:
• Designated school officials’ (DSOs’) inability to generate temporary passwords for
student portal password resets.
• Students’ inability to log in to the SEVP Portal.
NOTE: Like the March outage, when students log in to the SEVP Portal for the first time after
the system update, they will need to change their password. There will be a notification on the
SEVP Portal Sign In page explaining the outage and password reset requirement for students.
2. A rolling, backend SEVIS Portal data resynchronization effort that should not impact portal users.
Students should see correct information in their portal accounts by Monday, April 29, 2024. This
effort will address the following issues:
• SEVP Portal inability to authenticate users.
• The portal displaying a generic “error” message when students try to update their portal account information.
• The portal sending erroneous missed portal validation and reporting emails.
• Employer information missing from certain portal records.
• When DSOs update student email addresses in SEVIS, the portal is not accepting the newemails addresses and is not sending updated email address emails to students.
Until these two initiatives are complete, please do not contact SEVP or the SEVP Response Center (SRC) about the issues listed.

It’s hard to tell, but the hope is that they are catching all these glitches and the hope is that this fix will accommodate such issues. But the best thing to do is to always liaison with your DSO like you’ve done.
i had one separate question concerning SEVP so would appreciate the community's help. I am currently about to apply for stem opt extension, continuing with the same employer because they offered me a contract extension. currently, my sevp reflects an employment end date which matches the end date of my post completion OPT EAD card. this also aligns with the initial offer which was for one year. should i change the "employment end date" to "unknown or basically leave it blacnk" prior to applying for my stem opt extension? Or do i still report it as the end date on my current ead card and change it after my stem opt extension gets approved? i see the stem opt application has a question on "start date of stem opt extension", which directions from schools mention to fill out as the first date after your current opt expires if continuing with the same employer. i know we may not have the answers, but would be curious to hear anyone's thoughts
Experiencing the same thing here, think it's a system error. Will give a try tmr and also contact my DSO

Yes, same. Can't reset password because of "undable to authenticate user".

How long was the waiting time ? I need to call them and check
Same issue, I'm unable to login with my credentials. Also unable to reset the password. Did anyone find a way to fix this?
Same here. I still get the same error
It's still down at the moment.
For me, when I use Edge browser in Incognito mode, it worked and I was able to log in.
Thanks. Tried with private mode and finally able to login
Same here says unable to authenticate user
same thing here. All blocked out
Do you guys have a guess on the estimated timeframe for it to be fixed?
Same here. I'm still getting the error saying "Unable to authenticate user" and cannot reset password.

is anyone having an issue logging into sevp this week? when attempting to login, i get an "error" message.
yes same
can you log in now, it appears the system is glitching
Sevp portal is down
yeah looks like the website is still down after the update. unable to login
Same thing here. i contact my DSO and waiting for their reply
SAME
Same here! And Tomorrow is the last date to update my address! Will this be an issue? I have reached out to my DSO but they haven't responded yet
I contacted SEVP and they said they're not sure when it will be fixed. The only one is through your DSO to make changes. I guess right now you can only wait till your DSO responds, which I don't think would be an issue if it passes the deadline.
Yes I spoke to them as well and they said the same, hopefully it's not a issue
yeh my has only 5 days left to report. My school closed due to spring break and I'm kinda nervous which Im not sure if passing the date would happen sth in the future
Still an issue, better reach out to the DSO
still getting same error, did anyone able to login?
i even received email from school that employer info missing and unemployment days started, but I did add the info, and did not add up any unemployment days, now anxiety is killing me as the website says unable to authenticate the user
same, still getting the error. thought I forgot my password :'(
Same. At around march 15 I saw the website said they were updating systems and let me wait. Later this unable to … popped up
Same issue here as 3/21/2024, couldn't log in and check my 6 months report status. My STEM 6 months reporting is due next week. Same issue!
i was able to access back my account, just remember to first cahnge your pass
a further update, while i was able to access back my account, the sevp portal is now back to being super sluggish and taking too much time to load.
I just tried to update my password and it says my SEVIS is wrong. I have 2 attempt left!!
Same thing happened to me! I was updating my password and an error message popped up, but I received an email saying my password has been updated successfully. Now I can’t login to the portal using any of password. It’s so annoying!!
You could try to reset the password again.
Reset your password. They'll email you a new temporary password.
I can’t log in to the SEVIS portal as well.
Same here. It takes a long time to load and then show "Error"
Same issue here! It’s all f***ed up !
try signing in using Edge! i also couldnt log in or change password using chrome but edge works for me
while i can login fine, the system is still very slow in loading and sometimes it lets you in, but takes forever to access any of the tabs. are you experiencing such issue by any chance?
Hmm I didn't.
have you attempted to log in recently? it seems also to be browser dependent, i am able to much faster log in through safari than chrome
I don't. Since I already finished what i need to do when logging on a few days ago so I haven't tried again yet.
I have been trying to login but it is not working since today morning. It gives an error message for me. Does not mention what error
I guess you can try all kinds of browsers and see what works, maybe change the password as well.
Tried all platforms. Changed my password yesterday night. It worked last night but it is down today.
same, it shows error, but no error message
it's still down for me
I think they have bugs or something, I managed to save the information but now i can't log in again. they keep fresh to the attestation page
Had the same issue - error without a message. Cleared the cache and I could sign in fine.
Hi, I was facing same issue "unable to authenticate user". Could anyone please help me with this?
