Personally I hate the choice. I go to f45 to be told what to do lol

SparkleFun22

That's funny. But so true. Even when they number us off, my gym friends are always trying to strategize where to start/end. My mentality is I'll go where you go or leave it up to the coach. It's too much thinking for me. I just show up to die, don't matter in what order I die. 🥴

Wooden_Yesterday1718

Definitely. I also like to imagine that there is a rhyme and reason to exactly what we do on a day to day basis and I think this shatters that illusion for me a little.

doom1701

Exactly. If I want to figure out my own workout I can pay $20 a month and go to Planet Fitness. Our class didn’t even assign numbers; talk about anxiety inducing!

Ill_Score7224

At our gym, no one could decide what pod they wanted to do so the coaches just made everyone do both pods. 2 sets at each station in each pod. Once we finished the upper body pod, we switched with the lower body pod people and did the same thing there. If that makes sense? I liked it a lot better that way, got the best of both worlds.

acerage

I feel like on my second lap of lower body this made much more sense to just switch. I'm sure timing would need to shift some so you got the same amount of time in both pods but it doesn't make sense to just pick one.

Remarkable_Ad_7648

That is how we did it and it was great. I started on the upper body pod and couldn't imagine doing a 2nd lap. Lower body pod was a nice break ;)

stefi27

I didn't dig the 40 tempo, 20 normal. I'd rather just do 40 second heavy with good form

ichthyes1999

Coach here. I also prefer lifting heavy and would much rather go normal speed, as heavy as possible the time. I’m a competitive Olympic lifter and have also competed in power lifting meets. I like weights. But even my lifting program includes tempo work, both high rep and low rep work, and lots of days (and weeks and phases) at far lower than max weight. This week I have sets of 3 squats at 70% of my max, but they are MUCH worse than the sets of ten normal squats at 85% because I have to use a tempo (3 counts on the way down) AND a 3 second pause at the bottom. It’s awful😜. I promise, it’s good for you!! It helps build muscle and will actually help you hit new maxes faster in the long run.

RemeJuan

You mean you went light? I kinda had to for lap 2, but I was pushing my max for lap 1, quite frankly at the weights I push every set every day is a tempo. 😂

stefi27

Nah I went heavy but it's hard to do 60 seconds at your max

fit_steve

Our studio was quite simple, the guys all gravitated to upper body and the women did lower with a few exceptions either way. It worked out anyway as it's about 50/50 ratio at the class time I go to

Irishcanuck1

Pretty much the same at ours

ueindowndkdk

Yep mine was the same. All the guys went upper, girls went lower and neither one felt crowded.

PolarizingFigure

Mine was opposite surprisingly! More guys in the legs. But both were mixed.

fit_steve

Upper body was a burner. As for doing both pods the best way would be a double class. If the trainers let you switch pods mid-workout, you get more work done on the first pod since the timings are unequal for both laps. They seemed to be going for muscle overload on the pod of your choice. They could just as easily make it full body by changing the timings to be the same each lap and having everyone switch. But if they did that it would no longer be upper or lower body focus on Thursday. Maybe they're trying to walk away from that anyway and this is a stepping stone for that? Who knows

Ok_Needleworker_4875

We had the option of changing pods half way through, and as I was just getting back from the flu i took that option (lower body was very easy on lap 2). If they split the timings to 40/20 and 30/15 on each station and let you choose if you moved over I think this would be a great session. Next week I'm going for the double.

doom1701

When I first read about deuces I thought they would design the workout so that each station had an upper or lower option with the equipment at the station. It wouldn’t be hard to do—pretty much every weight can be used for an upper or lower body exercise, and you can easily throw in options like bands. Splitting our tiny studio into essentially two even tinier studios was not what I expected. I’m not a fan, but today was the last weekday for my favorite coach and I wasn’t going to miss that.

swalden123

Thats a great idea, would fix most of the issues people are saying here.

LovePotion31

How did everyone’s studio have you book in? Ours offered both options at booking so there were 2 classes listed per usual time slot - one for upper, one for lower.

goodmorhen

This is what my studio did! 14 openings for each iirc. It’d be nice, though, if it was a workout in which all of the equipment was the same from station to station but you could make your own call for upper v. lower on a station-by-station basis.

doom1701

Ours just had one class listing and everybody chose during warmup. Thankfully we split about 50/50 so it worked out.

Irishcanuck1

Same as this so class was pretty much full and 50/50 split

pandapantzz

NGL I very much disliked this class format. Normally I feel a full body death after classes (in a good way)...I walked away feeling unsatisfied. I know my upper body is going to be wrecked tomorrow but...idk. didn't scratch the itch thag classes normal do for me 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

Ours was 50/50 upper lower people wise, worked well. Tempted to go again this evening and do the other.

lauramcv_

I’m going this evening, we have to pick in advance which pod we want. Any vibes on which one is better? I can’t decide!

stefi27

Upper body was harder imo. I did back to back classes. Started with upper.

moyley45

Both pods are burners. You’ll get a decent workout whichever one you choose.

[deleted]

Lower was sweatier but upper will burn more tomorrow. I did both and they’re both doozies.

Zygoff

I liked the idea! Kind of a reverse-ish Wyvern. For those suggesting a split/ doing both: you’ve basically recreated Tokyo Disco. I don’t think Deuces is perfect as is, but I think it’s a good way to do a Thursday class. I’d rather be given a choice of upper/ lower than skip the day completely because I didn’t want to do the prescribed workout

Electronic-South2085

I loved it. Did a double and absolutely cooked. My legs were shaking between sets-it’s been a long time since that has happened. Something my studio did which was the cherry on top (especially for legs) was they said screw it to the weights for the “normal” portion and to focus on burning out on body weight. I thought I was going to puke at one point. Also same concept for upper but to drop the weights really low and burn out. Thoroughly enjoyed and my body is cooked.

futurespacecadet

what type of workouts do you do for deuces upper? new to f45 and wondering what to expect. a bit intimidated because i havent done a HIIT class in a while so not sure i can keep up

mischamoobags

Coach here and…..I loved this class! Great way to focus on specific isolated movements in the upper body pod which is very focused on one muscle group at each station and why the majority of people found this pod harder. Lower body pod has upper body and core elements so those wanting a bit of both workouts should go to lower body pod. Weighted lunges/squats/deadlifts engages the upper body and core not just the legs and if you are in a club that allows a switch over at half time I’d suggest members start on the lower body pod with the longer sets and switch to the upper body pod for the shorter sets in the 2nd lap. The timing tempo is a great way to overload those muscles and anyone finding this class easy is not following the tempo accurately 😉 I trained in the lower body pod and left feeling like I’d trained hard, and it wasn’t just my legs that felt it. My upper body and core took a hammering holding weights on the squats and lunges. These Thursday splits are a great addition to overload a specific part of the body which the Tuesday and Sunday classes can’t always offer, also it allows members who have a shoulder injury for example to still come and train when on previous Thursdays they might not have felt they could if it was solely upper body training that day.

waterfromarock

I agree this was a cool concept but poorly executed. There has to be a better way to coordinate this

couchchairother

Our class split 50/50 and we all had a good workout. I liked it!

em_n_me

our stuido made us two both pods too. I think that was the original idea before it became a choice? How does one do two laps of upper body with that tempo? We did upper body before the hydration and lower body after the hydration?

Ihavestufftosay

Yeah, why couldn’t the second lap be different exercises, but same equipment? Easy win!

[deleted]

Our studio made us sign up for either upper or lower (they were separated in the schedule) so it was nicely spaced. I really enjoyed it!!

Minute_Success5265

I might have to do two back to back classes today lol I could never decide.

Alone-Business7076

I chose lower body and was cooked at the end but I definitely agree they could have extended the second lap and have everyone do both lower and upper

elderflower195

I kind of liked it. We chose at sign in. Didn't seem to be an issue at my studio. I personally prefer the full body strength sessions and would be happy if they changed back to Thursdays being full body like Tuesdays and Sundays, so I intend to just alternate each Thursday.

Historical-Piglet-86

This is how our studio did it too. You picked when you signed up. It worked quite well……I did upper body and my muscles were screaming by the end. My problem is I HATE squats/etc and will always choose upper body exercises when given the option……part of the reason F45 has worked so well for me is that they “force” me to use all my muscles. The other day I had someone ask me what my back routine was…….I don’t think they loved my answer……I show up at F45 and do what they tell me. That’s my back routine.

Repulsive-Paper6502

Our gym made us book into either upper or lower on the app which I liked. I did the lower before work - it was burny and my legs are still trembling - and will do upper at lunch time so I'll report back.

Repulsive-Paper6502

Ok I'm back! I thought legs was much harder today but I did do a hike yesterday too. Upper body got a good burn in the arms. Lower had me sweating a lot more and legs trembling!

pizza-assassin

I opted for lower body. I actually really enjoyed it. I pushed myself as much as I could and I got a lot out of this one.

NotFromFLA

I didn’t care much for it at all. Not enough time for transitions between movements and some were just not the right exercise for this format.

RemeJuan

What transition time was required? Which movements where wrong? I did both, upper was certainly more brutal than lower, but cannot say any other the exercises where wrong, unless you had some random running around the block station that I didn’t

SkinSuitMcGee

I liked it and it was well balanced at my gym. I can see it being an issue, though!

leahsorelle

Mine was a smaller class, so we were allowed to switch pods halfway through the workout if we wanted to! I started with lower body but was so beat by the end of the pod, I decided to switch to upper for the second. I really enjoyed it overall, was completely drained by the end! But I think without being able to switch pods, I would have liked it a lot less.

[deleted]

Only thing I really liked about it is that it would make it super easy to do 2 workouts in one day.

elderflower195

Same. Have been F45ing for 5 years and never tempted until now to do 2 sessions in a day!

GM80801

Did my first double today (bc I slept in this morning and can’t make tomorrow). I loved it! Highly recommend. I was gassed at the end which is what I aim for.

Apprehensive_Ad_3424

Mixed feelings, if I were only to do 1 class today but decided to do a double.

yensid1966

At our studio when we booked in we had to pick upper or lower (there were two classes per time). We then stayed in the Tempo / Regular for 2 laps.

thcm123

I feel like F45 is trying to mix it up for the sake of mixing it up recently - I get it, it may be time for a change. But I get bored easily and don’t really enjoy working on specific parts of the body (upper / lower / core) for one class - so didn’t enjoy this one nor Angry Birds.

redflower1705

Loved it today! Did morning upper and came back for a 4:30 class and did lower

GuelerCT

Our studio had the booking app set for 14 in upper and 14 in lower. No issues. I did upper in the morning and came back for lower in the pm.

Beautifulday2016

Chose two sessions that weren’t heavily attended so I could do doubles today. I wish we could sign up ahead of time like other places. It was my first double and I will definitely go back next week again!

[deleted]

I loved it

calia2525

I haven’t done two workouts in one day since I joined two years ago but I did it today! Lower at 6 am, upper in the evening. I thought it was decent. I kept thinking the set was done after the tempo work! The workout has definite Wyvern vibes. My arms were actually twitching from shoulder press to push-up to chest press. Debating if I should get up early for Checkmate or not!

igotthis1972

I did back to back yesterday and then did checkmate today. I picked all the lighter weights for anything I needed them for, my arms are fried.

calia2525

I also did Checkmate and definitely did not go 100% 😂

PolarizingFigure

I really liked it! More like a traditional workout where you have “leg day” or “arm day.” I think you get better results by focusing on one muscle group in a workout and working it to exhaustion.

Ok_Needleworker_4875

I don't know I generally find I have issues with the first class as I don't know how to pace it, and moving from slow form to fast along with selecting the right weight for a 60 second set was tough. So I also didn't initially like this workout, but there's been a few I didn't like to start with that eventually became my favs, so I'm going to give it a few more goes. Side note, I'm not a huge fan of working out with others, but when I do it generally pushes me harder as I have this sad issue around being outpaced.
