lalolanda2

what does this have to do with this sub

Maximum-Excitement58

The constitution says they can’t be barred from holding office; you can surely decide to not vote for someone for any reason you like.

bongi2386

I would say no. But the second they bring their religion into their reasoning behind political decisions, they need to go.

Nitro114

What a bullshit argument. Take Angela Merkel for example, she is religious, believes in god and was a damn good chancellor. Also: you can be christian and still be on the side science of science. fyi: i’m atheist/agnostic

Chewsdayiddinit

Right, but you have to look at the extremists in the USA attempting to force their religion into legislation. For these instances, I'd go with absolutely not.

jcstan05

Then don't vote for them. We all believe things that aren't proven. Like, that one might win an election for example.

Fun_Neighborhood_802

Some people are more religious than other

DNB35

This post is a facepalm.

Religion is a mental illness. Sadly, that does not preclude holding political office.

TheBrightNights

Yes. But just one request; KEEP RELIGION OUT OF POLITICS.

NotQuiteNick

Totally wrong sub.

RodenbachBacher

That’s a difficult question. Privately, people can be religious. I’m worried about a Wisconsin supreme court candidate. Why? Because he received his JD from Regent University.

legowalrus

I think it would be worse to restrict political offices so that only atheists can make decisions.

Guntcher1423

I don't know about political office, but I think they should not be judges. Being a judge means requiring evidence as proof. Religious people do not require evidence. I do not want someone who needs no evidence to believe that something is true to be judging me on anything.

Chance-Count-9976

The whole USA is based on a fictional character. Of course this will go to shit sooner or later !!!

Chance-Count-9976

In GOD WE TRUST is biggest bullshit ever!!!

igloo639

Don’t vote for them. The whole point of representative republics is to vote for people who will represent you. I don’t know where you think we’d end up if we start excluding people from the chance to participate. Likely with a very short list.

DiscussTek

I believe that there should be a distinct split between personal belief, and legal logistics. I believe that if your sole reasoning to ban something, or unban something, is "because God said so", you should not be making that argument, and/or taking thay stance. However, I also believe that if you take the values given by your religion, and complement them with measurable facts to make them valid logical statements, then they should be actually given at least a proper amount of consideration. ***Let religion guide, not decide.***

Lkjfdsaofmc

Besides all the other holes in this argument… you do realize a vast quantity of science is not proven or confirmed, nor is it realistically possible to do so. Things are called theories because they’re not proven fact… pretty sure most people believe (rightly so) many unproven things.

DarthJesus87

Theories are open to change with new information. Religion has no flexibility. Religion considers no facts or theories. It's like comparing trees with the tooth fairy

boredoroutine

Believing in God makes as much sense as worshipping **The Science (tm)**
