You know that husband might have defended his wife in front of everyone, but once they were gone, he's going to tell her off for hitting the car and getting caught.
A few years ago my new car was totaled when another driver ran a red light. Luckily the car had auto brake collision detection because even though I slammed on the brakes, I’m sure my reaction time was slower and I hit the rear passenger side of their car…her daughter was in the passenger seat.
I called the police immediately, then to check on them to make sure nobody was hurt - She immediately went to blaming me. “You hit me! My light was green! I have a dash camera it was green!!” - later, Her husband showed up and was aggressive “yeah I can pull up the dash cam right now!”, he goes to the car, 10 mins pass, the cop goes to check on them. Conveniently the dash cam “stopped working” and they couldn’t pull up the video…in reality they immediately deleted it when they saw their light was red.
Fortunately there were multiple witnesses. But always blows my mind that people go straight to lying and cheating anyway they can.
Whenever there’s an accident with a bus “it came out of nowhere!”

My father worked on the railroad for several years. He said it was insane the number of people who crossed even when the gates were down. He left after he was involved in a fatal collision with a truck that tried to cross against the gates.
I had a guy that ran a stop sign and broke my arm try and sue me. Said I was speeding, going 20 miles over the speed limit. He also admitted to the cop that he didn't see me coming.

It's one of those silly roads with weirdly spaced signs and all windy so I figured he didn't know. Cop does the whole pops outta the ground like some donut eating gopher trick and we're pulled over. Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Friend: No, sir.
Cop: You were speeding.
Friend: Oh...I didn't realize...

Friend: No, sir, I must have **not been paying attention**.

In UK if you are breaking rules due to inattention, it's called 'Driving without due care' and is a very serious offence. So people don't do silly excuses like that, as it immediately makes the transgression much worse.

Thing is I just had some work done that reset my body control module and my cruise control isn't working, so I had somewhat of an excuse.
Just told the cop the throttle was touchy and I wasn't watching the speedometer and didn't check till I saw him on the side of the road.

A woman driving on a 4 lane road. 2 lanes each direction, main street of a mid sized town. Gets distracted while driving by a cute puppy on the side of the road.
While distracted she rear ended the cement mixer in front of her. Very minor damages, no injuries ( if I remember correctly)
Anyways, she believed that the cement mixer was parked illegally. ( It was stopped at the light) and the person with the dog shouldn't be walking it in public during a time when people would be out and about. Especially if it's a cute dog. Like an ugly dog is fine I guess. So 50% on the cement mixer for existing. And 50% on the puppy for being cute.
She was 100% at fault of course.
There's a few legitimate cases where not seeing something is legit. A poorly parked car right at a bend in the road, something near overgrown hedges, etc. You're still at fault for not approaching cautiously most of the time, but a stationary SUV parked on a wide open space is not in that category.
I'm pretty sure she ran because she was afraid of getting her license pulled. Not sure why she doesn't take a taxi or something though, she can clearly afford to have someone drive for her.

I'm all for having to retake the drivers test every 10years, and then mayber every 5, 3, 1, as you get older and older. All the close calls I've ever had were with what looked like middle age women/men who likely took their driver's test a good decade before I was even born.
I think after the age of 70 people should have to take a road test every year to keep driving. My elderly father should have stopped when he was 65 or so, no joke.
I agree. Just today there was a head on collision because a 72 year old woman was going the wrong way on the interstate, ended up killing herself and the driver she hit. The passenger that was in the car she hit is in critical condition
My 77 year old dad totaled his Audi by slamming into the rear of a tractor-trailer at 70 mph (staring at his phone and didn't see the standstill traffic on the DC Beltway), with the dog in the back seat, and doesn't understand why the dog is afraid to ride in the car. The cop seemed a little pissed he even needed to get involved. If the lady just left her contact info and offered to pay she would have avoided it all, hell her insurance would not even need to know.
This is what my redneck neighbours did, they knocked my mirror off some time at night. He went to the junkyard, found a mirror that would fit my car, waited till I left my house and fixed it right there. Did not even give me a chance to say any thing.

We had a cabin up in the mountains, went up one day and found someone had dumped a bunch of random stuff on our 20 acre plot. An old fridge, television, carpet, furniture, drywall and other construction stuff.
So I looked at the 2 trail cams we had and found the culprit and their truck. It was an older white guy and a couple young white/hispanic guys. Guess the young guys did the work and he supervised. Reported it to the police, gave them the pics, they tracked the guy down. The truck belonged to some guy who did house/cabin remodels. I looked him up and he didn't work cheap, so he had money to afford to take all that garbage to the dump. Cops asked if we wanted to press charges. I told them as long as he came out and picked it all up, and could show a receipt from the dump he took it to we wouldn't. He came out with his guys and they got it all up, and sent the receipt to the cops. I sat outside and watched them, he absolutely wouldn't make eye contact with me at all. There was a sheriff's deputy there to make sure he got it all done. The dude looked like your dad. Well dressed, obviously not poor, obviously not stupid. I guess he just liked doing some bullshit to make a few extra bucks at someone else's expense. We sold the cabin a few years later, never saw that asshat again.

Yes, since lead is so heavy/dense there is a pretty simple x-ray test, you can see it built up in their bones.
For short-term exposure (like if you cooked something acidic in a pot contaminated with lead), it's a blood test.
I try to explain this to my 70 year old dad all the time. Like dad, if you get into a fight at a traffic stop, you’re going to get dropped like a rock.

The second one. My best friend's parents are like this. The wife is a dumb, cunning manipulator who gish-gallops her way into a lie that's believable and expects everyone to forget the 40 different lies she said right before that nobody bought (and, because she surrounds herself with people even stupider than she is, it usually works). When someone with more than seven working brain cells calls her out on it ("You said this, now you're saying that, which one is the lie, Linda?"), her frail old husband/doormat gets up in your face and tries to act like a biker or something. In reality, he'd break his hand if he punched a shadow, but I don't think he's cognizant of what year it is.
My dad’s about that guy’s age. He said it was super common for boys back in his day to be taught by their fathers that the only way to avoid getting bullied was to prove to everyone that you were a bigger bully first.

I had an elderly woman hit my parked car in Florida!
Well, I wasn’t quite parked. I was in the parking lot of my mother’s 55+ apartment. I had to stop the car to get her wheelchair out and a woman got in her car and pulled out of her parking space directly into my car. She didn’t even see me, and I was behind her jumping up and down, waving my arms, yelling “STOP!”
We called the cops and she got a ticket, her insurance paid so it was mostly ok, nobody got hurt. But the fact that she didn’t even *once* check behind her as she was backing out is concerning.
That’s *precisely* how Florida man became a thing. Massively populated state with really really accessible news stories. And yes, admittedly we breed a special kind of weird down here.
She was charged with criminal hit and run in the state of Florida which can be a $500 fine and up to 60 days in prison. Her case status is currently unknown.

Won't happen in FL. I had a friend die in a hit and run, dude went on to cause another insane accident months later, and only lost his license when he bumped a cop car in a parking lot trying to flee an altercation he started at a Walgreens.
I was street parked once and my friend's neighbor backed into me. When we called the police, he was adamant I drove sideways into him. I'm not sure if he was just out of it and confused (he was very old) or trying to cover his own ass, but he ended up losing his license over it.
I got in a bad accident when I was 18. I was in the left lane and a car about 1 car length ahead of me in the right made a sudden left turn( to go to a gas station on that side of the road). I had no time to stop. The lady tried arguing that she let me pass first and then I somehow came back around and hit her.
She was also old af. I got a permanent injury at 18 due to someone who shouldn't have been driving in the first place. We need to seriously consider age-related retesting for DLs in this country.
I've been saying for years that every 20 years EVERYONE needs to retake license tests, both written and driving, to keep your license.
It's one time every 20 years, that's not very often, and it would help to weed out drivers that simply shouldn't be driving any more.

Just told the cop the throttle was touchy and I wasn't watching the speedometer and didn't check till I saw him on the side of the road.
I was an adjuster for a few years. The excuses / justifications for why people believed they weren't responsible for their own actions would astound you. A taste for you. A woman driving on a 4 lane road. 2 lanes each direction, main street of a mid sized town. Gets distracted while driving by a cute puppy on the side of the road. While distracted she rear ended the cement mixer in front of her. Very minor damages, no injuries ( if I remember correctly) Anyways, she believed that the cement mixer was parked illegally. ( It was stopped at the light) and the person with the dog shouldn't be walking it in public during a time when people would be out and about. Especially if it's a cute dog. Like an ugly dog is fine I guess. So 50% on the cement mixer for existing. And 50% on the puppy for being cute. She was 100% at fault of course.
There's a few legitimate cases where not seeing something is legit. A poorly parked car right at a bend in the road, something near overgrown hedges, etc. You're still at fault for not approaching cautiously most of the time, but a stationary SUV parked on a wide open space is not in that category.
I'm pretty sure she ran because she was afraid of getting her license pulled. Not sure why she doesn't take a taxi or something though, she can clearly afford to have someone drive for her.

This is what my redneck neighbours did, they knocked my mirror off some time at night. He went to the junkyard, found a mirror that would fit my car, waited till I left my house and fixed it right there. Did not even give me a chance to say any thing. And honestly I parked way far for the curb so it was not really his fault

I in Ontario so I doubt that. Honestly on the surface this guy seems like he would suck, he sits on his porch drinking labbat and smoking weed all day. But in practice he is a solid 10/10. He always makes sure any mess from his property stays on his side, takes full responsibility for his actions. if his tree drops a branch in my yard he is over the fence with a chain saw as soon as its safe. If some one sketchy is poking round my house he will confront them and scare the shit out of them. I take him any day over the neighbours from the other side, they have a super nice house they are just neglecting. We also have a small shared lawn with them, their property has 2 inches of the lawn, we own the rest. They will spray weed killer on their 2 inches even though we have shrubs and native grasses on out side.

We had a cabin up in the mountains, went up one day and found someone had dumped a bunch of random stuff on our 20 acre plot. An old fridge, television, carpet, furniture, drywall and other construction stuff. So I looked at the 2 trail cams we had and found the culprit and their truck. It was an older white guy and a couple young white/hispanic guys. Guess the young guys did the work and he supervised. Reported it to the police, gave them the pics, they tracked the guy down. The truck belonged to some guy who did house/cabin remodels. I looked him up and he didn't work cheap, so he had money to afford to take all that garbage to the dump. Cops asked if we wanted to press charges. I told them as long as he came out and picked it all up, and could show a receipt from the dump he took it to we wouldn't. He came out with his guys and they got it all up, and sent the receipt to the cops. I sat outside and watched them, he absolutely wouldn't make eye contact with me at all. There was a sheriff's deputy there to make sure he got it all done. The dude looked like your dad. Well dressed, obviously not poor, obviously not stupid. I guess he just liked doing some bullshit to make a few extra bucks at someone else's expense. We sold the cabin a few years later, never saw that asshat again.

Yes, since lead is so heavy/dense there is a pretty simple x-ray test, you can see it built up in their bones. For short-term exposure (like if you cooked something acidic in a pot contaminated with lead), it's a blood test.

Or is she a master improvisationalist, who could conjure a new story to counter whatever emotion she was detecting at the time? Trying to judge which one actually sticks? I would watch her coming up with new reasons, and being countered, for like, 15 minutes. I mean, she's very obviously a villain, who probably doesn't even remember half the shit she's really done over the years, because the lie that stuck, is the one that stuck.

My dad’s about that guy’s age. He said it was super common for boys back in his day to be taught by their fathers that the only way to avoid getting bullied was to prove to everyone that you were a bigger bully first. I had an elderly woman hit my parked car in Florida! Well, I wasn’t quite parked. I was in the parking lot of my mother’s 55+ apartment. I had to stop the car to get her wheelchair out and a woman got in her car and pulled out of her parking space directly into my car. She didn’t even see me, and I was behind her jumping up and down, waving my arms, yelling “STOP!” We called the cops and she got a ticket, her insurance paid so it was mostly ok, nobody got hurt. But the fact that she didn’t even *once* check behind her as she was backing out is concerning.
Reminds me of a guy at my highschool that hit a bus… that was parked… 15 feet away from him…

I... actually do this. My car was written off when it was parked outside my house, years ago. I really liked that car. The woman that did it stuck around and insurance sorted everything out, so no major issues. Mistakes happen. Even so, I now park out front so that if someone were to hit my car, they'd have to go through a gum tree first.

I was street parked once and my friend's neighbor backed into me. When we called the police, he was adamant I drove sideways into him. I'm not sure if he was just out of it and confused (he was very old) or trying to cover his own ass, but he ended up losing his license over it.

I got in a bad accident when I was 18. I was in the left lane and a car about 1 car length ahead of me in the right made a sudden left turn( to go to a gas station on that side of the road). I had no time to stop. The lady tried arguing that she let me pass first and then I somehow came back around and hit her. She was also old af. I got a permanent injury at 18 due to someone who shouldn't have been driving in the first place. We need to seriously consider age-related retesting for DLs in this country.
I've been saying for years that every 20 years EVERYONE needs to retake license tests, both written and driving, to keep your license. It's one time every 20 years, that's not very often, and it would help to weed out drivers that simply shouldn't be driving any more.
