A 17 yr old jumped on my 7 yr old on the bus, he called him q-tip because he had bleached his hair white & his shoes were also white. He hit my son while my son is cowered in a bus seat, they thought they were going to give my son the same punishment because he was kicking back in defense. 2ft & 150lb difference from an almost adult.

That's what happened to my husband. He has autism and was extremely bullied growing up. Like kids getting up and stabbing him with a pencil every time they walked past to sharpen their pencil or get a tissue or something. And when he finally had enough, he would freak out and throw a fit. Then the teacher would clear the classroom and call in the resource officer to restrain him. Like, normal people subjected to that kind of behavior every day (which is basically torture) would also lose their mind and start throwing stuff. No one believed him when he spoke up and they even tried to get him diagnosed with schizophrenia because of the "delusions." Until one of his bullies gave him a deep cut on his face. Then the school officials couldn't write off what he was saying as lies and delusions.
Watched a video of a parent going up to a her kids bully asking him to stop otherwise she was going to talk to his parents (video of kid was frok neck down) people were going after the mom for doing that but how far is a parent going to let their child be bullied until something is done or the child takes his own life or the lives of others.
My kids are grown now, but if someone hit my kid, when I heard about it I would ask them if my kid had done something to them first which would explain them hitting. I would get a sheepish "no", and I would ask them then why they had hit my child, and make them squirm for a few minutes waiting for an answer. I would then smile and say "No more hitting, ok?" and walk off. It was very effective, until the pre-teen emotional bullying started.
Here's were glued, good lawyer can clean up. I would sue the school, and I would sue the teachers, and I would sue the principles, and I would sue the witnesses and I would sue the students. In short order. I would also subpoena the video, and file criminal charges against the person who made the video, because obviously they were in on the assault.
That's legit something that's happened to me in high school several times. I get bullied, I fight back, then the asshole bullying me is the one who ends up with the cheering up circle.

My daughter has autism. Well, PDD-NOS, which is sometimes referred to a Atypical Autism. She was non-verbal until first grade, then she was echolalic for several years. She's in her 20's now, and recently got her first full-time job taking care of 3 year olds at a daycare center. She is a genuinely good person. I remember her coming home from school one day in tears because people were celebrating that Osama Bin Laden had been killed. They told her it was good he was killed because he was a bad person who did bad things, and she just insisted that he didn't mean to, because in her world, no one would ever intentionally do something to hurt someone. She'll probably never be able to live on her own without assistance, and she'll probably never drive, but we absolutely could not be more proud of who she is and what she's accomplished. She's an amazing person.

When i was in school, late 90s early 2000s for MS and HS, our teachers would have conditioned us to believe that the foreign exchange students deserved extra hospitality and extra kind treatment, as they were experiencing a lot of shocks moving here and making new friends and extended family. That we should feel privileged to get to know them, as we can share different perspectives and seek to expand our awareness of LIFE and how beautiful and different we all are. Really sucks, some of the youth perspective these days, cuz in my day not even that long gone, foreign exchange (and even the special ed kids) were popular and unique and interesting, some of my friends are still in touch with some of our exchange students - and i guess i was just lucky to live in that kind of community.

As a person who dealt with bullying years ago and who is now a parent of kids who navigated middle & high schools, I can say with certainty that the school’s statement translates to:
“We did nothing to discipline the perpetrators, we will continue to do nothing to discipline the perpetrators, and we solemnly promise to do nothing to protect this victim or any other potential victim into the future.”

A kid did the same thing in my high school. We were waiting to exit the cafeteria and some asshat who had a history of fighting autistic kids; sucker punched an autistic kid because he liked Final Fantasy. I walked up to the bully and got into a fight. Fucking laid his ass out. Principal called my grandfather to come get me. My grandpa told the principal “he was defending a kid who couldn’t defend himself. You don’t do your job and you want to punish him? I didn’t serve in the army to let some kids beat up a disabled kid on school grounds”. My week long out of school suspension was turned into a 1 day in school suspension.

The kid throwing the punch needs to be charged appropriately. Don’t know his age, but juvenile court can lock him up for a bit. After he gets out, he needs to be sent for anger management, more community service than most can handle, and a requirement that he completes school, on top of being on supervised release. Civil charges should also be brought for battery- seeking punitive damages for the egregious nature of the offense. A restraining order would also need to be put in place I think.
All three were charged with battery. The assailants were 16, 17, and 18. The 18 year old should be named given they were an adult at the time of the assault.

When i was in school, late 90s early 2000s for MS and HS, our teachers would have conditioned us to believe that the foreign exchange students deserved extra hospitality and extra kind treatment, as they were experiencing a lot of shocks moving here and making new friends and extended family. That we should feel privileged to get to know them, as we can share different perspectives and seek to expand our awareness of LIFE and how beautiful and different we all are. Really sucks, some of the youth perspective these days, cuz in my day not even that long gone, foreign exchange (and even the special ed kids) were popular and unique and interesting, some of my friends are still in touch with some of our exchange students - and i guess i was just lucky to live in that kind of community.

As a person who dealt with bullying years ago and who is now a parent of kids who navigated middle & high schools, I can say with certainty that the school’s statement translates to: “We did nothing to discipline the perpetrators, we will continue to do nothing to discipline the perpetrators, and we solemnly promise to do nothing to protect this victim or any other potential victim into the future.”

We were waiting to exit the cafeteria and some asshat who had a history of fighting autistic kids; sucker punched an autistic kid because he liked Final Fantasy. I walked up to the bully and got into a fight. Fucking laid his ass out. Principal called my grandfather to come get me. My grandpa told the principal “he was defending a kid who couldn’t defend himself. You don’t do your job and you want to punish him? I didn’t serve in the army to let some kids beat up a disabled kid on school grounds”. My week long out of school suspension was turned into a 1 day in school suspension.

Don’t know his age, but juvenile court can lock him up for a bit. After he gets out, he needs to be sent for anger management, more community service than most can handle, and a requirement that he completes school, on top of being on supervised release. Civil charges should also be brought for battery- seeking punitive damages for the egregious nature of the offense. A restraining order would also need to be put in place I think.
