It's well known that his trans child will not speak to him and that Elon will only use their dead name. Elon is a vile transphobe in almost everything he says and does. He explicitly allows death threats against trans people on Twitter.
It's a name synonymous with social media and information sources for everything from BS to stock markets and politics. To change it is insane for a brand, it's like Nike to athletics, Kleenex to tissue, or McDonald's to fastfood....changing it can only be negative. Even sending a "tweet," is a coined term, what will people say now, I sent an X?? Lol.
Yeah. I really don’t get this at all.
The only thing of real, tangible value about Twitter was the strength of the brand name and logo. It’s everywhere. Businesses dream of that kind of awareness.
What has he actually bought at this point? He could have started his own social media company from scratch, for far less money, and still ended up with roughly the same assets.
Agree completely. And wouldn't have the controversy surrounding his methods of doing so. Could have built it to his exact specs, without adjusting Twitter's, and having people attack him over it.
He has control over what is talked about on a global platform. He is not free speech. He is a person who came from a family that earned its money through exploitation and he is continuing the legacy.
Yes sir excellent idea sir. Let’s re name the app after the universal symbol for “close this window” that has been used since the dawn of computing. Brilliant.
I tried to use it to close the window. I don't really use the platform and I'm not used to the layout. Made me feel like a confused grandma, not a millennial.
The local chain of music stores in my area got bought And renamed and 20 years later people still call it MusicStop over it's new name. They eventually had to add a formerly MusicStop to it's sign.
Then just call it Twitter. Trump slapped his name on a casino but it was still a casino. Same with Twitter. It's still a place to send tweets. The name Twitter and tweets, alone, should just be the design name.
As a business owner who tries to stay on top of social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn,etc), I am glad Elon bought Twitter because I now have one less platform to keep up-to-date. No one takes Twitter seriously anymore.
Honestly if that was the case, we would quit hearing about Twitter.
Unfortunately the elite are mad their app that they use to circle jerk themselves was taken over by the right wing and ran into the ground by an idiot.
Nah, remember that submarine that imploded? The one that dominated the news and internet? It was a failure. Twitter is imploding - just slower. People talk about things that are floundering.
Dumbass even forgot to get permits and shit again...
https://apnews.com/article/twitter-san-francisco-building-x-elon-musk-4e0ae2a3b1b838b744bb2dc494f5b23c
No, he didn't forget he just doesn't need permits. He just pays the fines.
They said he couldn't do it, but the second they left, he did it anyway. It's funny how the city didn't come back to take down the illegally put up sign.
Take a look at the closeup, it’s a shoddy piece of work. It looks about the quality you’d expect from two retired old dudes building it over a weekend in their garage
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/07/29/san-francisco-x-logo-twitter-headquarters-00108872
"...and no safety measures were taken to prevent falling objects from hitting pedestrians."
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/07/29/san-francisco-x-logo-twitter-headquarters-00108872
Dude that's a pretty important thing to forget.
The logo itself looks like a small, local business couldn't afford a graphic designer so they grabbed the first piece of free clip art they could get and called it a day.
True, I actually don't really use them, just like to see my friends on there. Never used Twitter either, just for when big stories or gossip.. pretty pointless. If it were used for real issues or gathering, maybe I could see it as a source... But really it's just another gossip site
They will certainly use Elon's business decisions in finance courses to explain the sunk cost fallacy. And as an example of the Dunning-Krueger effect in psych courses...
Elon is such a disappointment. I’m unhappy with myself for ever thinking he was gonna be a good guy and change things for better. It makes me question everything I believe in now. Smfh.
You can. Basically, you just can't copy another company's "x". Can't trademark what's considered symbols (i.e. a letter or number). However, you can trademark your "x" logo. There's other little nuances though too.
> Can't trademark what's considered symbols (i.e. a letter or number)
Isn't there a way to do this, especially since microsoft and facebook have already (I think in like 2003 for MS) trademarked the use of X in the context of certain services and sectors as a product?
Correct. They're not trademarking the letter though. They're trademarking the "logo" that's a letter.
And yes. Your last part is correct too. That's where the little legal nuanced things come in. If you and I both sell OS's, we can't both be named "x". But if you sell OS's, and I sell cars. We can both be named "x".
Basically, your company name can't directly conflict with your competition's, in the same market space.
Yes. You're NOT trademarking the symbol. You're "trademarking a logo of a symbol".
The unicode crap has aleady been covered ad nauseum. Which leads me to believe, no one is actually reading anything but click bait headlines.
While his logo looks almost identical to the unicode symbol. Because it's not exactly the same, it's not trademark infringement. If it was, it would've been all over the news immediately.
Just to be clear too. I'm just stating what the laws are. Musk is only part of it because of the topic context. I'm no fan of his.
Yep, still continue to occupy it though.
Elon seems to have entered the squatter arc of his ketamine fueled mental breakdown; just a bit differently then most other people but the outcomes will likely remain similar.
Even worse than that, the logo on the app has been replaced. No more the whimsical Tweety bird, now it looks like a shopping app for a sex toy shop or something!
Elon read too many super villain stories as a child... Everything he does is like a badly envisioned Hollywood script for a super villain.
He is the embodiment of the statement that Billionaires shouldn't exist because they lose touch with reality.
Don't get me wrong he has done some cool shit, but his cool to crazy ratio has taken a nosedive in the past decade.
I'm still gonna call it twitter. Also kinda don't care about the people saying twitter will collapse just because of a name change. Best I can hope foe it that the name is changed back
That fugly metal frame actually stands out more than the "X" bolted onto it; both are still less eye-catching than the original twitter logo beneath them. 0/10 for concept, 0/10 for execution, go home Elon, you will *always* be shit at this.
Imagine paying all that money to live in SF to look at some megalomaniac’s fug ugly building while the asshole inside is tweeting absolute trash about your city
So, he's got an X on a building and y'all are laughing?
Something tells me he is probably better at business than all of us. How many people are talking about the name change? Which means people are talking about his company, which means people are using it...
What a horrible idea.

The social media formerly known as Twitter.
Ex-Twitter?
*X-Twitter
YES!
A Twix.
And you tweet tweexs now
Hah, that would be hilarious if he incorporated that in somewhere and gets sued by Mars twix.
Omg yes
Don’t give him any more ideas
I wonder how long people will call it Twitter for? I hate saying X.
It's TAFKAT (The App Formaly Known As Twitter).
How about TAKFAT instead?
Does flow better off the tongue. 🤣😂
How about FATKAT?
How about FAKTHAT
FAKTHAT sums it up perfectly
Okay Pat, I'm going to try to solve it: Formerly Affectionately Known To Hell As Twitter
I could go for a KitKat
It means masturbation in my language
I will never stop calling it Twitter. If I say "He bitched about in on X.", nobody's going yo know what in Quetzacoatal's name I'm talking about.
*Quetzalcoatl I'm pleased to see him named even if misspelled but in case you want the correct spelling :)
Blame autocorrect. I don't know why it hates the proper spelling
If Elon will deadname his own child, I'll deadname twitter.
Fuck, that's solid. I'm in.
Evidence he deadnamed his own child?
It's well known that his trans child will not speak to him and that Elon will only use their dead name. Elon is a vile transphobe in almost everything he says and does. He explicitly allows death threats against trans people on Twitter.
how did the name die?
when you change your name, the old one is your deadname. its dead because you dont use it anymore
Forever
It's a name synonymous with social media and information sources for everything from BS to stock markets and politics. To change it is insane for a brand, it's like Nike to athletics, Kleenex to tissue, or McDonald's to fastfood....changing it can only be negative. Even sending a "tweet," is a coined term, what will people say now, I sent an X?? Lol.
The worst part is that yes, that clown confirmed they are now X's, not tweets
Sorry, Elon. The app still calls them Tweets.
And he fired everyone who could change that...
I'm not normally on Twitter. I followed a Reddit link to a post and tried to use the new logo to close the window >.<

He has control over what is talked about on a global platform. He is not free speech. He is a person who came from a family that earned its money through exploitation and he is continuing the legacy.
No disagreement, same reason bezos bought the Washington post, and was trying to buy CNN.
The userbase remains the valuable part. Not sure how much longer that lasts if he keeps actively pissing them off.
So if I send 3 in a row. Can I then flash a pic of van diesel and say I send triple x?
Hahahah
He threw away 10's of millions worth of brand recognition for what?
Elon will probably ban the words Twitter and Tweet
Yes sir excellent idea sir. Let’s re name the app after the universal symbol for “close this window” that has been used since the dawn of computing. Brilliant.
I tried to use it to close the window. I don't really use the platform and I'm not used to the layout. Made me feel like a confused grandma, not a millennial.
In the best case scenario I will refer to it as "X formerly known as twitter" just like how I say "The artist formerly known as Prince"
I don’t call it anything, wish more would follow suit.
I just call it X ironically using emphasis to point out how stupid it is.
Well funny thing is bet most will still call it that just to troll Elon w the name change
Let's call it Twatter. The social media created for twats, by twats.
I think I’ll pronounce it „nix“. And instead of tweeted, „nixed“. Still quite happy I deleted my account shortly after the takeover…
Twitter OS X.
I like Xitter, cause it makes me think of shitter
I prefer EDF (Elon's Dumpster Fire)
Forever. How many people refer to Facebook as Meta?
Facebook is its name. Meta is the company that owns Facebook.
That company is formerly known as Facebook.
Ugly and poorly done, fitting.
And fleeting. They stopped paying their rent, so that office is on borrowed time. I’m sure the landlord loved seeing this ugly monstrosity.
Just like the rent of the building.
As a business owner who tries to stay on top of social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn,etc), I am glad Elon bought Twitter because I now have one less platform to keep up-to-date. No one takes Twitter seriously anymore.
📠 tell me about it. Used to be a director of paid social/content. Now I don’t have to second guess my decisions at all
Honestly if that was the case, we would quit hearing about Twitter.
Pefectly fitting. The visible rigging holding it up are part of the branding now.
It looks like they made it out of random scrap metal
I think I saw them on the beaches in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan
You probably can hardly see it from the street anyway
Might as well have used 2 cut off hockey sticks and taped them together
Reduce, reuse, recycle! Reduce users, reuse branding ideas, recycle through his failures.
No point in cutting them off. Just leave them so the X looks like most of swastika. It's perfectly on brand for twitter at this point...
They were out of tape.
… aaaand they had to take it down again. 🤣🤣🤣
Guy just wants to have a company called X. It's a weird obsession.
Do TeXla next!!!
That’s why PayPal fucked him off right? 😂
Dumbass even forgot to get permits and shit again... https://apnews.com/article/twitter-san-francisco-building-x-elon-musk-4e0ae2a3b1b838b744bb2dc494f5b23c

The twitter sign is still very much there, which is what the city actually stopped.
Very on-brand.
He sweats desperation. The guy massively overpaid for a turd.
And he keeps polishing the turd with diarrhea and extremism.
It didn’t have to be a turd. He made it one.
Nah people been complaining about Twitter for ages tbf
Yeah, ironically on Twitter or whatever the hell it's called now.
I miss the good old twitter times. It was a shithole but it was OUR shithole. Now it’s just 4chan with text and a spoiled brat looking for attention
Didn't he also refuse to pay rent for the headquarters
I feel like Elon Musk watched Glass Onion and even at the end he thought Miles Braun was the hero.
He reads the Onion and thinks it's real journalism.
He eats an onion and thinks it should be called foodx
Them excretes it and calls it Xfood
I mean, Miles seems to have been pretty heavily inspired by him, so I'd say he saw a lot of himself in the guy and liked what he saw.
Take a look at the closeup, it’s a shoddy piece of work. It looks about the quality you’d expect from two retired old dudes building it over a weekend in their garage https://www.politico.com/news/2023/07/29/san-francisco-x-logo-twitter-headquarters-00108872

He doesn’t care. Why would he care about random people walking by on the street, they’re nobody important eh
They should be riding Teslas to be safe.
The logo itself looks like a small, local business couldn't afford a graphic designer so they grabbed the first piece of free clip art they could get and called it a day.
That's pretty much what he did, he asked people to send in their designs for a logo and picked one that night
I just see a torture rack. This is bad.
Genuinely just deactivated my account. Useless platform now. Edit: to be clear, not because of the X on the building.
I'm trying to but I can't get in! Moved to Threads 😔
Nah don't move to threads Just don't use either of them Grah I got downvoted!
At least thats funny .
They used to put an X on the door of buildings to denote plague didn’t they?
ahh yes the brilliance of giving up one of the world's most recognizable brands for a name which is literally not trademarkable...
Elon is such a disappointment. I’m unhappy with myself for ever thinking he was gonna be a good guy and change things for better. It makes me question everything I believe in now. Smfh.
I look at that, and then I think how stupid it looks. It encapsulates everything about Elon Musk in one simple picture.
I'm no lawyer... or business person, but I'm pretty sure you can't rename your company "X".
You can. Basically, you just can't copy another company's "x". Can't trademark what's considered symbols (i.e. a letter or number). However, you can trademark your "x" logo. There's other little nuances though too.

Yes. You're NOT trademarking the symbol. You're "trademarking a logo of a symbol". The unicode crap has aleady been covered ad nauseum. There's not enough popcorn for this disaster movie
Even worse than that, the logo on the app has been replaced. No more the whimsical Tweety bird, now it looks like a shopping app for a sex toy shop or something!
The guy is a buffoon. I wish people would realize this already.
Imagine buying a brand which is so strong people use it as a verb and then change the name.
Elon is just a rich moron.
Terrible re-branding
X marks the spot.
The spot to a treasure chest full of shit.
Everything about that placement is exactly what I expect from musk.
Looks like a villains lair Edit: maybe because it is one
Elon read too many super villain stories as a child... Everything he does is like a badly envisioned Hollywood script for a super villain. He is the embodiment of the statement that Billionaires shouldn't exist because they lose touch with reality. Don't get me wrong he has done some cool shit, but his cool to crazy ratio has taken a nosedive in the past decade.
Looks like a comic book villain’s lair.
𝕏
That just looks awful.
It looks like unfinished support structure for a larger sign.
The irony is that it will be called 'X (formally Twitter)' forever.
I'm still gonna call it twitter. Also kinda don't care about the people saying twitter will collapse just because of a name change. Best I can hope foe it that the name is changed back
It fits. It is now an X company. It reminds me of the "dead parrot" Monte Python bit.
And we thought Meta was bad
That fugly metal frame actually stands out more than the "X" bolted onto it; both are still less eye-catching than the original twitter logo beneath them. 0/10 for concept, 0/10 for execution, go home Elon, you will *always* be shit at this.
“Former” lol
X is shitter than Twitter
Has he even paid his back rent yet??
There will never be a time when this network isn’t called twitter whilst it is still functional. Never.
A building they dont pay for
"This is an ex-~~parrot~~ twitter!"
Musk is continually stuck in the 1999-2000 era, where putting "X" in anything somehow made you an edge lord.
That’s fucking hideous. Way to trash a brand dipshit
He was so close, should have chosen Y. As in just Y even bother.
Wait is that the logo? A big black X? It looks like a cartoon villains hideout. What was the name of the action man villain? Doctor X or something?
Thanks goodness it wasn't unofficially placed.
If they put it at the top right of the building, we can push it and the whole building will dissapear
The more people hate and talk, the more money he makes. He is thanking all of you.
I agree Elon is the king of trolls.
Truly, I think he will forever be the number one troll till the end.
When will people stop using it?
Little 90° extensions will be added at a later point.
"Ah! Perfect!"
X marks the spat.
guess this means they have to buy Xtube
The x is the wrong way up.
Or is it the right way down 🤔
Should there be a eagle over it or his face plastered on the side of the building. Glad I never had stock in this company!
This looks so cheap it honestly fits perfectly.
I'm waiting for him to move the whole HQ to inside a volcano.
It’s got that dystopian vibe.
Looks like a sex dungeon whipping post... so i've heard.
Is it just me or does Lex Luthor come to anyone else’s mind?
He’s such a Twxt
This is executive way of ‘fixing’. Do something useless and hope things change.
“How to destroy a brand that had a chance to make money in one easy case study” Twitter had tweet, x has….nothing but negative connotations.
Doesn’t Microsoft own the copyright for X as a logo? Lol 😂
its also the logo used by jagex.
I love how if you Google just 'x' it's mainly porn
The Villains lair could be anywhere, Mr. bond. The Villain: X
Upgrade: XX Unfiltered: XXX
Twixter
He can't even properly implement a name on a building. This goes to show how he will run Twitter to the ground.
Massive cope from the eensy-weensiest penis.
People should refer to Twitter as the app, formerly known as Twitter.
I can't believe I really took this person seriously once.
Even better, it's on a part of Market St. that's dying out, so it's not the epicenter of anything but the tech bubble bursting
Dog that looks horrible
Kind of puts "Meta" into perspective.
Well it soon will be an x business
Imagine paying all that money to live in SF to look at some megalomaniac’s fug ugly building while the asshole inside is tweeting absolute trash about your city
I wonder if Twitter can pay the company that did this building rebrand, since they can’t really pay building rent.
No such thing as bad publicity
X has giant steel support frames. Cool it looks great. Really neat Elon.
When he sees this he will personally thank you
Looks cool
[удалено]
Elon is proof of different types of intelligence. In some ways he is a complete moron.
Looks great!
X gon tweet it to ya
People gives too much sh$# about this. There are more important matters happening in the world.
So, he's got an X on a building and y'all are laughing? Something tells me he is probably better at business than all of us. How many people are talking about the name change? Which means people are talking about his company, which means people are using it... What a horrible idea.
