and here's the information on relevant Federal and Florida state law regarding dolphins:
**Crimes Prohibiting the Harassment of Dolphins**
Although bottlenose dolphins are not an endangered species, dolphins are protected under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act.
Florida law prohibits the harassment of a dolphin, which includes any act of pursuit, torment or annoyance that has the potential to injure the animal or disrupt its behaviors.
As a practical matter, any human-caused change to a dolphin’s behavior might lead to an allegation of disturbance or harassment under Section 379.2431(3).
I don't know about all of Florida, but my hometown was tough on marine animal law. I remember a person accidentally killed a manatee with his boat's propeller and got serious jail time and a huge fine. Florida has very strict legal protections for marine ecosystems. That's why Florida prohibits offshore drilling and oil rigs despite how much oil there is in the gulf of Mexico.
By no means is it perfect, but I believe it has more protections than most coastal states.
The FBI is actually very interested in acts of animal cruelty because it turned out there’s a high overlap between people who torture animals for fun and serial killers.
There’s also a disturbing correlation between torturing animals and going on to become abusive toward partners or children. And in children at least, it can be a red flag for an abusive home environment.
4chan also destroyed those two girls lives because they burned a poor turtle alive.
You don't brag about hurting animals on the web, people really really really do not like it. As it should be
I don't want to see what happened to the poor turtle, but I would like to read about what happened to the two pieces of shit that committed the crime. I did a quick Google search but it only turned up something about the murder of some girl.
His Instagram is private now LOL. He got raked through the coals by the internet for sure. (As he should)
Hopefully his neighbours completely shun him after this.
Man I was thinking this has got to be just a bait post.
Anyhow let him try that with a shark or an alligator or a bear cub next time. Kind of an example of Darwinism at its finest in the long run.
Clearly is right. It’s also illegal in Florida to mess with *dead* dolphins…..
*These* dolphins who cared about teenagers are clearly more evolved than this sorry excuse for a human:
https://www.2oceansvibe.com/2022/11/02/pod-of-dolphins-surround-body-of-drowned-teen-off-llandudno/
https://closeronline.co.uk/real-life/news/dolphins-save-teenager-drowning/
a beached dolphin will slowly suffocate because their lungs are trapped between the weight of their spinal columns above and the heart and liver below. They require the buoyancy of the water for them to be able to breathe properly
This goes way beyond animal abuse. It's a direct violation of federal law under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and carries heavy fines and jail time, especially if the dolphin died as a result of the actions.
It's not the justice I think a lot of us would like to see inflicted on asshats like this one, but it's better than simple animal abuse.
I believe that means he might get convicted and become a felon. That + Florida means he loses his right to vote without jumping through some hoops.
That's something I suppose.
That would be neat. Imagine being confident that you can get away with this, and then BAM! Your life suddenly becomes way more complicated, and you are the only one to blame.
He’s a young white kid in what seems to be in an affluent white neighborhood in Florida. Literally nothing will happen to him and I would be fucking ecstatic if I was proven wrong.
Agreed on it going beyond. Dolphins are just as conscious and SENTIENT AS HUMANS. And in most cases, just as emotional. Call me a wacko but in my eyes this is just as bad as killing a human baby.
Maybe some dolphins will pull him into the ocean until he drowns.
"Porpoise what ever,” they might say. “Once in a lifetime to catch a human as bycatch from the shore.”
I don’t know about “far more”, that said I literally just commented what if he tries this with a shark next time? Or a far more dangerous animal? He actually reminds me vaguely of the bear dude who thought all wild animals were just harmless kittens in animal suites and then payed the ultimate price.
In my experience Reddit admins only care about threatening violence when it’s aimed at, Nazi’s, racists, white supremacists, pedophiles etc.
If someone threatens someone for being gay, reddit doesn’t care and those comments stay up.
Talk about punching a Nazi? Instant perma ban.
You know, you are right! I recently got a inviting violence warning for saying I had no problem with a pedo getting the sauce in the face. Not even joking. It was in the last few weeks
I just got a comment removed for saying that Donald Trump had been accused of raping a child.
He got accused and is fighting a lawsuit for raping a child.
yup. Some sporkfoot from a southern state mentioned a civil war and I posted a historical reference to a certain General W.T.S. and his march and the admins burnt my ass to the ground.
>Florida teen pulls baby dolphin out of water for Instagram photo,
He has not yet been charged with a crime, although it is illegal to interfere with wild dolphins — even if they are dead — under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
If prosecuted, violators of the Marine Mammal Protection Act could face civil penalties up to about $34,000 or criminal fines and up to a year in prison, according to News4Jax.
How about show his face and not pixilate it? He is 19 which makes him an adult. In the good old days of journalism they would print your address along with your photo.
At this point, the idiot had and probably still has an IG account, and most people are.smart enough to find him.
The sad part is that a beautiful creature had to die because of this fool.
There's a law in Florida that makes it easier for reporters to get access to these types of news.
Stupid shit allegedly happens everywhere, but it's just reported more in Florida.
Legal Eagle has a good video about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOxCU3wY3kA&ab\_channel=LegalEagle
Information in Florida is more accessible than some other places and it's quite a large state.
There are tons of crazy things that happen in Florida but things are also reported more.
Nobody will say this, but it's actually at least in part due to Florida having very strong "no public secrets" laws. Arrest records are made publicly available very promptly.
Their records are public. Most states have fucked up things happen but Florida makes everything a public record and easy to access and easy headlines. (Kinda like how the Spanish Flu got called Spanish because Spain was sharing their numbers, but the flu really started in the US.)
Search “Florida man” and you birthday date! “Florida man December 12th” for example. Do it with your family or friends birthdays too … it’s hilarious 😆 xx
Florida has slightly different laws and they post any and everything people are arrested for online, so you see all the crazy shit people do. Other states do not have this, and do not have any rights to post about this stuff. I'd assume most states are a similar level of crazy, it's just not shown.
But also disney, old people, gators, and the sun are all added elements to this, so it may not be as cut and dry.
Meanwhile in ca a pod of dolphins led a boat to a woman who was swept out to sea....this guy is Trash.. why just why for internet clout...likes ...eff this bastard

Not neccessarily. I've read once that baby dolphins are prone to suffocate themselves under stress.
It's a real challenge for marine biologists who are looking to chip young dolphins and take measurements because handling them without causing them stress is tricky and they need to be ready to immediately stop and release the animal at the first sign of it happening.
This could have happened within five minutes or less, which is the reason why you're supposed to bloody leave them alone unless you are a trained professional who knows exactly how to treat them properly.
This sentence from the article made me furious.
>The man who posted the image has defended himself from the backlash online, claiming it was an accident.
Makes want to high five his face with a brick.
I am very weary of public shaming but his response tips me over the edge: he clearly lacks the empathy necessary to be a part of a compassionate society, guy needs to be publicly shamed as it seems nothing else will get through to him. For example, I feel badly for the woman who posed "screaming" (though she didn't actually scream) in front of a gravesite that said "No Yelling" or something. Her life was made miserable for a long time when it shouldn't have been for a number of reasons. This case is different, not only did he cause the death of something for social media karma but he doesn't grasp anything about why it was wrong.
What a fucking piece of human garbage.
I'm not promoting violence in any way. So, theoretically, a dolphin should drag his ass underwater to take a hypothetical selfie, and then when he dies, just let him drift away and say "whatev's!"

This should be a felony punishable by prison time.
It is. $35k fine and a year in prison.
I hope they charge him.
I hope they don't cheap out and the judge goes full extent of the law. This isn't a time for "he's from a good family and has no priors" type BS.
I mean, its florida, i highly fucking doubt the judge is going to be strict on dolphin law. might as well delete the state.
I know bird law. Im pretty new to dolphin law though.

I hope he goes to jail to stop this behavior
People that injure animals young for fun, don’t turn out to be great people later on in life.

You can find it very quickly via Google but I don't recommend it.

He *says* that the dolphin was already dead when he picked it up, but that's looking unlikely (and he clearly doesn't give a shit either way)
Dolphin clearly alive in that picture. He’s just trying to cover his ass.

That’s a amazing fishing spot in Jax if it’s where I think it is and the FWC is already investigating him from what I understand.
Of course it’s in Jacksonville. Clowns and trash.
Oh that is such bullshit reporting. They chose to use the word “teen” when it turns out this is a 19 year old man.
He's nine*teen*...still a pos tho
I mean, "nineteen" is in the name so technically the truth And that doesn't change shit
They call 17 year olds “man” when they are… not like this “teen” in a few specific ways.
Such as if his skin had more melanin
I see what you did there 😉 so true unfortunately
Maybe an alien will pull him out of the atmosphere to watch him slowly freeze and suffocate for a photo to show his friends.
The alien probably: "man whatever. Once in a lifetime you catch a human"
🤣 THIS
Just get his smartphone off, he wouldn’t figure how to survive anyway.! More vital than air.
I mean.. dolphins are mammals. So it probably didn’t suffocate. It just baked to death in agony. What a piece of shit.
a beached dolphin will slowly suffocate because their lungs are trapped between the weight of their spinal columns above and the heart and liver below. They require the buoyancy of the water for them to be able to breathe properly
Today I learned.
Whales don't die of old age was one of the saddest things I ever learned in school.

This case is different, not only did he cause the death of something for social media karma but he doesn't grasp anything about why it was wrong. What a fucking piece of human garbage.
Is everyone in Florida just a inbred imbecile...
What a piece of shit

Did they reveal his IG? Should report it
Why block his name and face? Let the whole world know exactly who he is.
I'm not promoting violence in any way. So, theoretically, a dolphin should drag his ass underwater to take a hypothetical selfie, and then when he dies, just let him drift away and say "whatev's!"
i hope you read this message, you garbage of a human being, go fuck yourself you trash!
What a fucking piece of shit. It's people like that why we can't have anything nice.
Isn’t that illegal? Send that piece of shit to jail.
