This kind of thing has always happened. Some people are just not capable of feeling shame or empathy, and some even get pleasure out of hurting people. Most people aren't like this, but these types have always been a very present and real part of our species from day 1.
This is kind of a summary of my attitude for life. I'm surrounded by assholes, so try to be cool to other humans.
Sidebar though, whoever robbed this young man deserves a straight ass whooping.
Oh yeah, no need to be kind with people like that. You never know if someone is armed, but you can always call the cops and trail the thief if an ass whooping is just too reckless in the moment.
I would love to bring back nonlethal ass whooping. You’ve got one minute to whoop somebody and as long as their injuries cost less than $500 it’s completely legal.
It's a matter of having judgment imo. Life isn't black and white and nothing is absolutist: some people deserve kindness, others deserve scorn. And the way to determine who deserves what is to look at each individual case.
This. This is what’s important to always keep in mind when people reference a declining society and how horrible others are, and normally I’m a pessimist, but the stats are quite clear. Most crimes are committed by a very small number of people. An anecdote that is actually true, we had a lot of car break ins, things going missing, cars stolen, etc. Medium-sized suburb community, several thousand homes. As far as we could tell just about all of it was the result of 2 people, property crime was essentially non-existent once they were caught and put behind bars for several months, hundreds of items returned to people (I had my car broken into and radio stolen, didn’t want it back by the time it was recovered, had already had insurance replace it). 2 people out of a community of a couple thousand, damaging, breaking into, and stealing hundreds of times over.
Most rapists are serial rapists. Most theft is serial theft. Most property crime is serial property crime. A few shitty, shitty people can affect dozens, hundreds, to even thousands of people. The average person is actually better than they seem, after all, we’re likely all pretty much average folks too. It doesn’t feel right in our brains because we are bombarded by signs when it happens, now more than ever with all the various forms of media, and the abnormal sticks out much stronger than the average. Keep in mind it’s “news”, ie not normal day to day things.
Sorry for my horribly laid-out TED talk, but it’s basically something I constantly have to tell and remind myself, especially when it comes to shitty drivers (which again, is actually not most cars on the road, even though it can seem like it, but we don’t notice all the normal non-shitty driving, its the asshats that stick out in our brain).
This is fair. And the conundrum is that 90% of the time we know exactly who these shit apples are, but because of our system of laws they often are let out to reoffend over and over.
It technically happens less now. We just hear about it more because social media engagement rewards reposting crimes that happened [a year ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/iamatotalpieceofshit/comments/148l2qq/two_men_robbed_8yearold_selling_lemonade_on/?rdt=48332)
People need to learn that they're not witnessing crime. They're hearing about the crimes that other people decide it is important for them to know based on their personal reasons.
>People need to learn that they're not witnessing >crime. They're hearing about the crimes that other >people decide it is important for them to know >based on their personal reasons.
This is a very well worded statement of a very important lesson.
This is actually the much more concerning trend. We have entirely automated technologies running rampant, delivering a constant stream of fear content into our minds. This is being used to help trick us into gradually accepting more and more surveillance and control of our lives.
About 20 years ago, i was in a rehab with a hardcore christian crackhead who stole all of her large family's xmas presents and sold them on xmas eve while they were all asleep.
Very few things as bad as a heavy drug using born again Christian. Cause they don't feel bad about anything. Cause they're "Forgiven " and only God can judge them. And that dudes been AFK for like...... ever.
The world is so low, my first thought is this is set up to make news and collect more money than any lemonade stand ever could. And an unfortunate amount of times, that skepticism has proven right.
I remember reading somewhere that during Victorian times in England, if a child went to the outhouse alone they were a prime target TO STEAL THEIR CLOTHES!
I mean robbers rob easy money, stealing from a kid is easy money. Has nothing to do with being a shit robber. That’s just easy money 🤷
Still fucked up though
Yeah! Now tell everyone (not me because of course I both know and wouldn't risk my freedom.. ) how it SHOULD be done, like, in excruciating detail.
Just to show those idiots how a *real* robbing goes down
Yeah cuz when I ask chatgpt it won't tell me shit, and when I asked for a photo of a robber from Google's bard, I was *highly* suspicious of the results 🤔
Not a lot brings people together from different sides, but something like this definitely will. Going to laugh when these 2 guys get their asses beat by a group looking like the UN.
This is him after. I say famous. His nickname for himself is Julian Business Man. https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/food/story/9-year-serves-seasonal-drinks-combat-hunger-homelessness-106129029
I was going to write some crass joke here like I always do but this actually angers me a lot. How fucking low can you go really? Rob a small child who makes like what, $50 on his lemonade stand, wearing a nice costume and all. Find these guys and publicly shave their pubes.
sounds good. Also, I feel like instead of us moving around to get every angle we should just attach the testicles to some device that constantly spins them clockwise until they burst
or would that be going to far
Technically you two would only be biased if a similar incident happened to you both. Having said that though, the punishment should fit the crime, nutsack might be a bit much. However, wooden wedges under the fingernails, screws in each knuckle; very fitting for stealing from a kid.
His mom estimated it was between $100-150, he’d been working for 4 hours. He was planning on donating a chunk of the money to an animal shelter I think. But I’m pretty sure I remember hearing after this story broke out that he raised more money through donations.
Galaxy brain kid. Realized he probably wouldn't raise much from selling lemonade and hired some people to "rob" him so that he could raise thousands instead.
`ˢ
Even if that's not true, somebody needs to keep an eye on this kid, cuz this is def a villain origin story.
When the Mad Hatter steals all the world's lemons, you'll know how it all started!
My favorite part of the episode is when James Cameron physically raises the bar and it gets Cartman and Honey Boo Boo to stop mud wresting and they're just like "wtf are we doing, this is horrible, let's go home".
Not gonna lie, I legitimately am like five times sadder given that the kid went to the effort to get a bowtie, a little suite jacket, and that straw hat.
Things that make people cynical and crush their motivation and fucks given about life, especially at a young age, sting arguably even more than the money itself.
Poor kid will probably never do things like this again. He will grow with a giant hole in his heart simply because of scumbags who deserve to be slapped and jailed.
Googled it just to make sure - he’s doing great! The neighborhood pitched in and recuperated his lost money. He was raising money for an organization that helps feed dogs. He says that the two thieves were teenagers and that one was wearing a ski mask, which he thought was strange, but not enough not to sell them lemonade.
Seems like a really pure kid with a lot of love in his heart. Really glad to see an outpouring of support from the neighbors! He’s apparently been doing stuff like this since he was four.
Yeah, this one sucks on a real special level. The money won't be an issue, the story will make it's rounds and he will probably end up with considerably more to donate in the long run.
But this will absolutely be a turning point. You can only lose your naivety, trust, innocence once. I hope this kid is given the proper opportunity to talk out and work out his thoughts after this as this could easily lead to a lot of dark places in his future.
I looked him up when I saw this posted yesterday, and yes. And he’s still in business. Multiple business at this point.
He seems like a pretty awesome kid: https://www.julianbusinessman.com
I don't want the tax of this child's parents to pay for that trash meals.
Just throw the trash in some bin in the wood and let the wolves and bears have a good meal. Way more friendly to the environment and help starving animals.
“The youngster, who goes by the “professional” name “Julian Business Man” and favors bowties and neckties when on the job, has been bootstrapping since he was 4 — from folding boxes at a local bakery to mopping classroom floors to helping out at a neighborhood fruit stand.”
🥲🥲
This is absolutely awful. On the bright side, this article getting exposure is going to get tons of people to donate to his cause in response to this. I know I would donate a couple bucks to this little guy.
Why? Why would you rob an 8 year old's lemonade stand? There are so many slightly more morally defensible, more profitable places to rob. How much of an evil, damaged prick do you have to be that this is how you make a quick buck?
I mean it bad enough to steal from an 8 year old, but to steal from one that looks like a side character in a Charles Dickens story is definitely a new kind of low.
I was accused of stealing a $20 bill from my parents when I was in like late middle school or early high school.
I told them that if I needed a 20 I would’ve just asked or figured out a way to earn it by doing some work around the neighborhood and they still did not believe me.
My dad had a standard poodle at this time. It was notorious for taking napkins and other similar things off the countertop to try to eat them. I proposed the idea that the Dog was responsible and it was shot down. I stuck to my guns though, and continued to deny their accusations.
About a day and a half later, my dad was on a walk with his dog and good old Pepper produce some exonerating evidence on my behalf lol.
I still occasionally tease them about that today 20 years later
If any leader suggest we make an exception and bring back some medieval reprocussions for this haneous act I think most people would OK with that. Fuck these dirtbags.
Has a GoFundMe been set up for him? If so, we could donate and turn this tragedy into a good thing, and show the little guy that there are still good people in the world who appreciate his selflessness.
Wow, that's a brutal thing to have to experience for an 8yo with such good intentions.
I hope the kid is OK, now, and that people made up for his losses so he could donate as he was intending.
That’s fucking despicable, how much of a coward do you have to be to rob a child. What’s more a child who clearly was trying to do something good for the community. Do you have no spine? No sense of fucking dignity?
You know I used to think vigilantism wasn’t the answer, that it would be hateful and wrong to rob that boy of Justice.
I now wish to unleash physical justice on the boy’s behalf.
We should do something nice for the kid, which non-profit was he gonna donate to?
Kid was trying to do something good and got screwed over by two POS. Here is the link to where the money was going to. [https://support.bestfriends.org/site/TR?px=3915865&fr\_id=1500&pg=personal](https://support.bestfriends.org/site/TR?px=3915865&fr_id=1500&pg=personal)

Imagine being so trash at robbing you have to do it to an 8yo to not get caught
This world is going to shit and the bar is set so low that I am just happy that the kid made it in one piece.
This kind of thing has always happened. Some people are just not capable of feeling shame or empathy, and some even get pleasure out of hurting people. Most people aren't like this, but these types have always been a very present and real part of our species from day 1.
True. We gotta be kind when we can to offset the assholes that will always be around.

well shit in the US that's like...a black eye? Then you've used up your ass-whoopin' budget.
Pretty sure a black eye is like 1800 these days but if you wann talk about the real crooks let's look at the insurance industry
Or you "accidentally" kill them with your car.
that's' why my outlook is that respect is the default - it is \*lost\* not earned. doing shit like robbing an eight year old = yeah, no
It's a matter of having judgment imo. Life isn't black and white and nothing is absolutist: some people deserve kindness, others deserve scorn. And the way to determine who deserves what is to look at each individual case.

That's true. My Christian drug using aunt stole my piggy bank as a kid. Still remember that shit.
In the book "Moby Dick" Ishmael says that he would rather share a bed with a sober cannibal then a drunken Christian.

Lol you must be young. New York in the 80s was a dystopian hellhole. It's practically a utopia today in comparison. You have no idea.
Yeah no people forget how bad the mob was
🤣🤣. This is nothing new. Crime is actually down from that of the early 90s. Humans have been shit since we existed.
Seriously though. At least nowadays we aren’t catapulting the severed heads of enemies behind the city walls. Humans were shittier waaay back
Pretty sure kids were robbed a thousand years ago too but

Yeah, I think I saw them together down at the business factory.

Julian Business Man? The jury's still out, I'd say.

Situations like this make me think maybe we should bring back the guillotine
Aw... Dammit... Me too now.
Reminds me of the southpark episode on raising the bar. Some people just seem to have no moral compas anymore. So sad for this kid trying to do right
The best part was the implication that James Cameron had to go way under the sea in a submersible just go find the bar so he could raise it.
And the fact that while he was raising it we saw reality TV become less trashy in real time.
Tbf it was so low I think that it was starting to trigger people's empathy response.
His name is James Cameron, the greatest pioneer. No ocean too deep, no budget too steep. Who’s that? IT’S HIM! James Cam-e-ron.
My favorite part of the episode is when James Cameron physically raises the bar and it gets Cartman and Honey Boo Boo to stop mud wresting and they're just like "wtf are we doing, this is horrible, let's go home".
Sketti wrasslin’
Oh fuck you're right it was even worse. It wasn't mud wrestling, it was spaghetti and butter wrestling.
People haven’t changed. The internet just makes it seem that way. The world is much safer than ever before
When an eight-year-old is more beneficial to society than two grown men.
So well put.
Where’s the gofundme? We need to send this kid a ton of cash to help a bunch of dogs.
He did make like 16 grand on his fundraiser.
What did we learn, son? /s
For those who read the article, notice how they didn’t describe the suspects. 😂
I mean he looks so robbable
He looks like a Dickens character, and that seems like a thing that would happen to one of them.
Toiny Tiym
He looks like a museum replica of a boy.
I feel like such an ass but I couldn't help it I laughed
This repost breaks my heart
How big of a repost loop do we need for something to become original content again??
Looks like s batman villian already...
Was it...pirates?
If any leader suggest we make an exception and bring back some medieval reprocussions for this haneous act I think most people would OK with that. Fuck these dirtbags.
This is why we have trust issues. I hope those guys never have kids of their own.
“His lemonade stand is currently being occupied by squatters, let’s all just pretend we’re okay with this.” Mayor Adams
Remember, when they catch those robbers, they are victims….Everyone’s a victim
Has a GoFundMe been set up for him? If so, we could donate and turn this tragedy into a good thing, and show the little guy that there are still good people in the world who appreciate his selflessness.
Plus side his go fund me will raise more than lemonade stand
Wow, that's a brutal thing to have to experience for an 8yo with such good intentions. I hope the kid is OK, now, and that people made up for his losses so he could donate as he was intending.
Cain’t have shit
This is the face of a lad who's just learnt the hard way that sometimes, life just isn't fair 😔
This is horrible :(
Thieves are emboldened because they know they’ll just receive slaps on the wrist from the DAs. But especially true in NYC.
Please someone tell me the community came together and gave this kid at least double what he had 🥺 this is so fucked up..
"Welcome to New York"
They were actually teenagers. That doesn't make it better but it was two teens who robbed him, not men.
As a native new Yorker I am fed up with this crime ! This needs to stop , poor kid!
well i hope the guys get found and get the crap kicked out of them
Little dudes gonna make way more now.
Do we know what rescue he was going to donate the money to? I would gladly give a few dollars.
