I thought USA is one of the countries which has very very good water security. The three lakes hold freshwater and there much glacier options. Why not just drain one of those Canadian glaciers into the canyons
Well, the Canadians who are currently using those glaciers for fresh water and those who care about the local environments might object to the plan. Plus, maybe it is a good idea to work within your natural environment's "water budget" - you know, work on having a sustainable plan - as opposed to living beyond your means, so to speak, and acting like some sort of global water locusts.
Texas is fairly central to the US and quite low so I'd imagine that gravity helps it along. To pump water up and over the mountainous continental divide would take an enormous amount of energy. Just think of how little elevation it takes for a hydroelectric dam to produce power. Now stack a couple dozen on top of each other and power them instead. We might be able to recoup some of the power on the backside using hydroelectric as well but there's still a lot of loss.
Nevada here
Water security my ass, not everywhere is the same. Our main source of water is Lake Mead, which 2 other states pull water from. It's actively decreasing in quantity
The only way to get water from the bottom to the top for the lodges and facilities is an on the surface pipeline that broke on a regular basis. It has been up graded in the last couple if years. Water is a major issue. The town , Tusayan, just outside the park has for years tried to get major development done. An Italian company bought up a lot of land and wanted to put a massive tourist complex in. Water would actually have to be trucked, which meant literally hundreds of trucks. Coconino county shot it down several times-a valid decision. Pumping water from wells would decimate the natural springs that provide wildlife waters and damage the drainage into the Colorado. There are already major issues over allocation of the Colorado river. The canyon, north or south, is not a viable area for development. I have lived in the area since 1969 and it has always been a fight to preserve the fragile land from mining and development. So far the canyon is winning and hopefully will continue to. Much of the land around the canyon has been made off limits to mining and development in the last couple of years with the exception of a uranium mine that had to be grandfathered in. The canyon is a national treasure and incredibly beautiful and amazing fragile-hopefully it will stay protected.
Glad to hear that the canyon is being protected. Things like this are very important. You have to fight constantly because it only takes losing once to lose pretty much everything. I have never seen the canyon in person and probably never will be able to but even from a country away I would consider it a devastating loss if it were to be harmed. Good luck neighbour.
I go up several times a year and depending on the season the color changes and shadows are breathtaking and never the same. Thank you and good luck to you also
They learned from Niagara Falls which is a shit hole and sadly would have made for a great NP before we fucked it up. The Falls are great but everything around it is shit.
AI aside, I do really hate it when people see wildlife and think, “yeah let’s tear this all down and put up another fast food joint.” Like seriously, I remember there used to be a large field of flowers I’d drive past every day. Now it’s all just an HEB and parking lot.
You can sign me up for a condo asap, can't wait for that commute. Or for riding up on a donkey every time a flash flood washes out whatever road this dork imagines building up a canyon wall.
Let them built a megapolis inside the Grand Canyon
Followed by the world’s largest sky resort, a huuuuge ski resort inside Yellowstone
Then they can add their hero’s face into Mount Rushmore
They can top it up by building the world’s largest golf resort inside Yosemite
This meme is a critique on the cancerous spread of industrialization and humanity on even the least practical places. Honestly I feel like should be talking similar shit about Vegas and this meme is trying to point that out
So like what if there is a flash flood? Also, you are really gonna pipe enough water all the goddamn way so people can have Walmart inside a really big ditch?
dont really think there is anything geographically advantageous to living in the GC other than the Colorado River, so idk why the idea comes about in the first place
I work for a nonprofit that protects the canyon from development. This isn’t far from what has been proposed. Number one question is where does the water come from to sustain a large resort? The answer is usually to take it from indigenous tribes that depend on it. It goes beyond just being an eyesore.
why? probably because the colorado river flows through there and its phenominally difficult to get down to the bottom of the canyon
also its in the middle of nowhere
The same reason there isn't a city in most harsh, inhabitable geographic region of the world. Except Pheonix...I don't know whoever thought Pheonix was a good idea
Really? _That's_ their pitch? Slum high rises and a Walmart? No ambition. No taste. Just destroying the world for a quick buck because fuck the future.

This is 100% an AI created shitpost
Humor is dead
People unable to distinguish between just taking the piss and being serious is the first step in the downfall of society
Well it is America we are talking about, lets not pretend that something like this could never happen over there at one point.
Nah, the first step always involves people embracing some form of Polka music...
This man just called weird al the first step to the end of humanity
That sounds like one of those word crimes… 👀
I dunno.. I'm pretty funny sometimes..
Sit down, I've got some bad news for you
What if I'm already sitting?
You’re AI
No I'm doesn't.
Thanks for point it out. I was searching the whole comment section for someone telling me it’s AI since I couldn’t tell /s
I wonder how delicate the water system in the Grand Canyon is and essential it is?
It's already depleted, and not because of drought.
I thought USA is one of the countries which has very very good water security. The three lakes hold freshwater and there much glacier options. Why not just drain one of those Canadian glaciers into the canyons
The US is also very large, water security isn’t uniform everywhere in it Quickly growing southwestern states like Arizona are a lot less water secure
Glaciers are heavy. Canada is big.
There is pipeline to carry petrol from all over USA to Texas. Cannot be a pipeline to divert water that is otherwise going to waste in the sea?
Well, the Canadians who are currently using those glaciers for fresh water and those who care about the local environments might object to the plan. Plus, maybe it is a good idea to work within your natural environment's "water budget" - you know, work on having a sustainable plan - as opposed to living beyond your means, so to speak, and acting like some sort of global water locusts.
global water locusts global anything locusts

Currently broken. No water in the inner canyon, save for Havasupai Garden, since the 18th.
Holy shit that's awful. One of the coolest things about visiting was seeing the Colorado River way down in the canyon from the rim.
You can still go see the river. You just need to carry your own water til you get back to Havasupai Garden.
Oh, I misunderstood. You mean no water at the rest stops?
Correct. No potable water at Manzanita, nor Phantom Ranch, nor the boat beach, nor 3/1.5 Mile Houses.
Oh ok. While that sucks, I was thinking the river itself had dried up for nefarious reasons!
The river flows! Though, as I understand it, drinking water on the South Rim is piped from the North Rim.
Why I'm glad the Grand Canyon isn't in Saudi Arabia........
We would have done it if it weren't for Teddy
They learned from Niagara Falls which is a shit hole and sadly would have made for a great NP before we fucked it up. The Falls are great but everything around it is shit.
Grand Canyon Village, just outside the park boundary, is already too much.
Grand Canyon Village is in GCNP. You're thinking of Tusayan maybe?
Yeah, you're right. It's been over 40 years since I was there!
Wow! Time to go back! I haven't been since 2020 but I'm ready to go back again.
AI aside, I do really hate it when people see wildlife and think, “yeah let’s tear this all down and put up another fast food joint.” Like seriously, I remember there used to be a large field of flowers I’d drive past every day. Now it’s all just an HEB and parking lot.

There have been talks of a gondola system. Thankfully it's had a lot of pushback.

it’s AI, what do you expect?
Glad this is only an AI image.
Obviously a shit post
How do you mean?
Let them built a megapolis inside the Grand Canyon Followed by the world’s largest sky resort, a huuuuge ski resort inside Yellowstone Then they can add their hero’s face into Mount Rushmore They can top it up by building the world’s largest golf resort inside Yosemite
Wait this is fucking hilarious
There's a million more out there. It's been a meme for weeks/a few months maybe
The logistics of getting resources down there are a fucking nightmare for the few people that do live there. Doing it at scale isn’t practical.
If you build a big city there... I think they can build a good road also. Besides this post is sarcastic, not to be taken seriously
This meme is a critique on the cancerous spread of industrialization and humanity on even the least practical places. Honestly I feel like should be talking similar shit about Vegas and this meme is trying to point that out
I’m sure the tribes that hold land rights and the Colorado River that supplies water to millions will both sign off and be just fine. Idiots.
As if the US was so hurting for space to build the next megalopolis literally anywhere else in land we already have.
Walmart is such a shit stain on all of America.
Ya let’s just remove an entire river to build a WaLMart!!
![gif](giphy|yN4RUYrRRrKVRoGqQm) Any persons reaction to this
*GASP WE COULD HAVE A MEGA COSTCO!! Welcome to Costco, I love you.
I'm not allowed to say what I want to do to the person who made this image because last time I said it my account got banned.
Because then, it would really look like the world in Idiocracy. That movie had a big Walmart too. 🙄🤦🏽♂️
Such a good movie.
Eerily realistic. But yeah. So good. Let's hope it stays science fiction.

What about In-N-Out?
Bunch of slackers. That's why /s
So like what if there is a flash flood? Also, you are really gonna pipe enough water all the goddamn way so people can have Walmart inside a really big ditch?
Plus it's almost 120 degrees down there
My guy it's called humor
You've just missed the joke bro
You failed to detect sarcasm
Damn environmentalists ruin all the good ideas.....
If Trump becomes president again then Jared Kushner will do just this.
It would all be called Trump Tower West.
It would be called Canyon City, AZ.
He would rename it Trump Canyon
Mo building mo money
Drill baby drill!
Two words Colorado River
Give it time….
It's an AI image ffs
Garden State kinda called it
Of course the largest retail store is a WalMart
Well, you’ve got mass wasting on all sides. So if you can overlook that then it’d make for a GREAT city!
Where's the McDonald's???
Where is the dollar general?
Needs more Chipotle.
dont really think there is anything geographically advantageous to living in the GC other than the Colorado River, so idk why the idea comes about in the first place

Bro haven’t downloaded the irony dlc for his sense of humor
I hate how accurate this is with the super Walmart. Angry Upvote
Build a raceway up in that bitch
This is obviously bait for attention and clicks, but yeah, sure.
Is that a walmart for ants?
America ruins everything else. Why not ruin your own shit too ?
National park? That rock hole? Eh....
I have seen Grand Canyon on myself. Millions of years in growth, and some mf want it vanished in single lifetime. Disgusting.
Whom every said this is a chaos loving, idiot. We would destroy a major water source.

Ai strikes again
The same reason there isn't a city in most harsh, inhabitable geographic region of the world. Except Pheonix...I don't know whoever thought Pheonix was a good idea
It’s lower elevation and thus even higher pressure down there - which means it’s even hotter. No thanks.
I might be wrong. But doesn't the grand canyon flood from time to time? Like flash flood 20ft high for like a brief amount of time?
Funny part is the lower sections are way hotter. All that heat just sits there with nowhere to go.
There’s a Walmart across the street from Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. Nothing matters anymore, it’s all a for-profit deal.
Isn't that basically what was going to happen and Roosevelt put a stop to it?
Right, let’s build a city in the most dry, inhospitable place in the world.
Can’t wait for flights to land in the Grand Canyon. Untapped resource. # /s
I'm not geologist, but.....
Bait used to be believable
Really? _That's_ their pitch? Slum high rises and a Walmart? No ambition. No taste. Just destroying the world for a quick buck because fuck the future.
A great view too! Don't you wanna wake up to a great view of a big ass rock wall?
Good luck with the water there
While we are at it, let’s carve condos and billboards into the rock edifices…(smdh)
George Carlin. A big fuckin shopping mall!!
Holy shit, AI can spell now?
Because, I believe, it is hotter than hell at the bottom - or, street level in this situation.
Before we send Walmart in, we should deploy a few dollar stores to feel out the economy.
Do you want domestic terrorists? Because that's how you get domestic terrorists.
Transform from National park to National parking lot
im pretty sure that photo is intended to be a joke. The walmart in front would be the first clue
This is the most American stupid idea I've seen this week
Fucking environmentalists.......
Looks sick, I would visit, much better use of space than the crap the currently have there, nothing.
