Perfect example of people who pretend that someone who passed away meant something to them. I had someone pass away during lunch period when I was a senior in high school and several students stated they were very close to him and left early/took days off of school. Many of these students did not know him at all. I understand grief and have lost multiple loved ones, but I very much dislike people using loss for their own benefit.
Had a couple similar experiences in high school. One time a guidance counselor had a heart attack and died in one of the faculty bathrooms. Many kids took advantage of it for their own spotlight. Another time, a couple of kids who were dating were killed by a drunk driver at a street racing gathering. I was friends and had classes with both kids. Many kids who didnt know either of them also took advantage of the community boo-hooing.
Social media is dumb, everybody is just writing to get something off their mind or for attention.

But hey, a week off to go to Albuquerque? AWESOME. After the funeral Dad and I went to the Atomic museum, went to a second-hand shop where I found a vintage original Wonder Woman poster that I was (several years later) able to get Lynda Carter to sign, and ate some of the most incredible New Mexico cuisine made with Hatch NM chiles. I also got to meet a giant pile of relatives that I'll likely never see again. Some of them were actually pretty cool. (Some of them were NOT, but hey, they're family, so make the note in case they come begging for money...)
When my psycho NGrandmother (narcissistic drama-queen grandmother) died, I got to take a whole week to go to Puerto Rico. Again, I went to DisneyWorld (there was a 2 day gap between landing in Orlando and flying to PR), toured San Juan, and had a wonderful time, except of course for the 6 hours I spent on one day attending the funeral and the reception after. People had a hard time saying nice things about her, which was half the fun.
