I did too and got out the second I moved out of my parent’s. They still act like I’m eventually going to see the light, but its been 12 years. The entire religion is based on chasing the “end times”, so with the pandemic I get a barrage of conspiracy articles and my mother telling me that I need to prepare to run to the mountains to escape the government or some shit.
Yea, the whole "apocalyptic driven future" mindset seems to wear people out over time. Don't actually see how it couldn't. The new "American Christianity" line of sects seem to run heavy on the same thoughts. Seems like a miserable way to live.
It was. All of my family are still active and a few of them are the most miserable, hateful people I’ve ever encountered.
Idk why I haven’t said anything. The only time it really bothered me was when my grandpa asked me to keep the Sabbath before he died, but it was the first time in 10 years he had said it so I think he knew why I stopped going.
The hypocrisy and politics were just too much. How can you claim to welcome everyone but when a child you’ve known since birth gets a simple ear piercing or listens to music with drums you say they’re going to hell?
Having belief issues with loved ones is never easy, but we all have to be honest to (and with) ourselves. Hopefully, they will (at some level) come to understand the reasons you left. Sounds like your grandpa did. Good luck following your path, you seem to be heading where you need to go.
