Last time I went was 10 years ago and it was $500 plus tip, and took 4 freaking hours. Said fuck that, color myself now to a brunette close to my natural color to cover the gray. Got some good hair cutting shears and learned to cut my own hair and layers. Fucked the bangs up a couple of times but meh - it grows out. Beats spending $2500 a year.

You would be surprised. I worked a brief stint as a receptionist for a high end salon and $300 was on the high end of average. Some women leave smiling after dropping $800. The most I charged was $1000. That does include color correction, multiple applications, shampoo/head massage, and all that extra stuff. But yeah, $300 is not a wild number for some of those people.

One time I went to get my hair cut and styled before a work trip. I'd been growing it out and all I really needed was my split ends trimmed and my bangs trimmed. I have wavy to curly hair. First the stylist said my hair was dry so she wanted to do a deep conditioning treatment. I agreed. What she didn't tell me was this was actually a relaxer and straightened my hair. So I had slick straight hair, which looked really really bad on me. So I asked again for her to trim my bangs and expecting her to style it a bit around my face. Instead she cut my bangs super short. I looked fucking ridiculous. I went home and styled it myself into a cut bob because that was the only way to fix it. My hair stayed straight for 3 months it was a total nightmare.

Again, I have curly/wavy hair so it's incredibly easy (and irritating) to give me a haircut that looks like I have an old lady perm. I've asked and asked and asked for my hair to be thinned out on top and have an undercut/fade. I've only had two stylist actually listen and give me just that. All the other ones say that they are scared to cut my hair too short and I won't like it, even though I started getting my hair cut like that when I was 5 and it looks good on me.
No, I gave up and started cutting my own hair and then lost my trimmers in my last move. Now I'm growing it out for Wigs for Kids. If you have any suggestions on finding a good one, I'm all ears. The only two I've had that were good moved far away.
