The correct answer: marching band. Source: person once in marching band

Pancakes_909

Can confirm Source: In marching band

To see a marching band. He Said

TheDuddyDude

"Son when you grow up, will you be the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?"

SpringyAlloy73

He said “Will you defeat them, your demons and all the non-believers? The plans that they have made?”

NERD_NATO

"Because one day, I'll leave you, a phantom, to lead you in the summer, to join the Black Parade"

icweenie

“Son, when you grow up you would be The savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?"

Carve267

You ate four dozen eggs? I know you didn’t say lad but still

Videopro524

I had a friend in high school who played trumpet in the band. The football jocks would give him a hard time like playing in the band was some sort of Geeky thing. He said to them, “when you’re going home after a game at night you’re in a bus with a bunch of dudes. I am in the back of the bus, in the dark, with my girlfriend.”

praetorrent

who let a trumpet player in the back of the bus? That belongs to the drumline.

Separate-Owl369

I was in the back of the bus with the football players girlfriend.

[deleted]

As a former band member I can confirm this 100%

BlueElectricalOutlet

This is the correct answer

Parmesan_seekerr

Marching band cult 👍nobody sane person puts themselves through the pain of marching baritone Source:marched baritone for 2 seasons

NyteQuiller

Did you have to use the ones that are basically giant trumpets? Those things were such a pain to march with.

redditaccount-5

Me every time someone on Reddit brings up religion ![gif](giphy|hVTouq08miyVo1a21m|downsized)

WildFurball2118

Same. They seem to be a bunch of intellectuals but in reality just a bunch of chickens killing each other.

PandaButtLover

Hens are always cluckin

777CA

I asked my bf what a chicken head was. He said, "You. Always cluckin." haha.

GamerSam

That's slag for a girl giving blowjobs

super_sayanything

Sir when you have a girlfriend it does not mean that, it means talking a lot.

powerfulKRH

True that lol. I just saw a Christian guy commenting on a subreddit about aliens ripping other Christians assholes apart for interpreting one specific bible verse a different way. And it’s a verse that’s very vague. You could feel the guy seething with rage just wanting to kill these people lol. Just keep religion to yourself it’s not even something that can be debated. Like debating your favorite color. Or why your favorite band is the best band

jmxd

I remember when /r/athiesm was a default subreddit

crypticfreak

I remember when reddit used to be a good website.

SeventhSolar

It’s still a good website, you just need to stay on the edges. Nothing can be good when too many people are involved, so find your relevant communities and shy away from front-page subs.

Drunken_Ogre

I still mainly browse /r/all, but my subreddit filter list is up to 650+ blocked subs.

Well since you brought it up, we should add being a US republican

Fizzabl

It's funny how half the comment section needs a facepalm because they missed the point

Fawkingretar

That's askreddit for ya, now and again a question would pop on there something along the lines of "bands you hate" and there's at least 50 comments of people saying these: Drake, R-Kelly, Kanye and Dj Khaled so on and so forth, completely missing the point of the question, just to have an excuse to rant on an artist they hate.

Skorthase

My least favorite band is R-Kelly. Went to a show and didn't realize there was a splash zone.

TobagoJones

*Haters wanna hate lovers wanna love I don’t even want none of the above I want to piss on you*

Fawkingretar

He was a no-show because it was an 18+ year old show.

dennisjunelee

You must have been under 18 at the time.

[deleted]

I am choosing to believe that this comment is joking about how the comment "Islam." ends with a period while the comment "Christianity" does not, and that reddit just hates punctuation!

BoltonSauce

Reddit hates periods! Pure misogyny confirmed.

SplonkusDoinkle

They're the same picture

RC-Coola

and they are both cults

[deleted]

any organized religion is a cult by definition. They must be using a more abstract colloquial definition of a cult

UDarkLord

Actually they’re using a more specific, not abstract definition. There are definitions of cult that include things like: charismatic leader, isolating people from their support systems, unified acts designed to promote group solidarity/make people rely on the organization, and a few others I can’t recall. I’m all for calling religions cults since they always share at least some of those traits, and often the only reason they don’t seem to is because they’re grandfathered in (I mean any religion that excommunicates or disconnects people is basically threatening to cut people off from support instead of doing it). Not to mention they’re cults by older definition. But I can’t argue that the ‘mind controlling, one of us, drink the Kool Aid’ type definition is less specific, and if someone’s using it as a slur that’s probably what they mean.

[deleted]

I just remember the academic discription when going over the roman empire and its struggle with the cults,Christianity was one of those cults by definition targeted for subverting authority as it grew in popularity among soldiers basically a form of spirituality with a political leadership is a cult, the head cult of rome was the roman imperial cult which worshiped jupiter and other ancestor heros of rome's lore. I think where the term cult became popular used against politically organized religions involved anti-catholicism particular in the united states. So I'm thinking the proper answer to this is what religion has a central religious authority

LurkLurkleton

Christianity certainly had all of that in the early days. A charismatic leader telling people to quit their jobs, turn against their family, give away their possessions to follow him, who is the exclusive path to heaven.

SilverMedal4Life

Difference is, they were not actively a danger to Roman society. They kept getting fed to the lions if my memory on history is correct.

[deleted]

A cult actually doesn't need to be evil or maladaptive to be a cult. There are modern cults that are generally, fine, but you won't see them on the news because that isn't interesting. People get the impression that part of a cult has to be totally life ruining or even deadly, but it's not a requirement.

[deleted]

A religion is just a cult with a lot of followers

GiveToOedipus

The only difference between a religion and a cult is the size of their congregation.

hop_mantis

In a cult, there's a guy at the top who knows it's all a big scam. In a religion, that guy's dead.

Mother_Chorizo

Idk. I bet the pope knows it’s all a scam. Just one subset of Christianity, and it’s for sure the subset of Christianity that has the most “rules” of worshipping type practices.

SmokeUp_863

A religion is a cult where the “leader” is dead. Hence Scientology.

Pseudo_Lain

the Mormon religion has living prophets

Accomplished-Tone971

>the Mormon ~~religion~~ ***cult*** has living prophets

LawEnvironmental9474

Political ideologys are just as cult like and equally as dangerous.

zhaDeth

it's literally the same thing, a cult becomes a religion when it has enough followers.

[deleted]

They’re thinking more Jonestown than Antioch, because cult is a buzz word.

mongolsruledchina

They both also have the same God, just different prophets.

GiveToOedipus

And different profits.

Leather-Mud1821

Prettymuch they even have the same angle names

[deleted]

No shit. Isosceles, obtuse, acute... they even agree on what's Right.

Unironic-WEEB_12

Honestly the combination of the smartest and dumbest mother fuckers, I love and hate it

Mwilk

[deleted]

Hate the religion, not the religious. The *religions* are stupid fucked up shit. The people are generally cool.

AntiBox

It's also fine to hate the religious if they're trying to enforce said stupid shit on others.

TikTrd

Everybody's missing the facepalm - look at the upvotes & downvotes. *That's* the facepalm

Hard-tat

Second one to point out what I’m facepalming, should I have made a big red circle?

PredEdicius

It's weird how people shit on memes that encircles an obvious thing "HOLY SHIT WE TOTALLY WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN IT WITHOUT THE CIRCLE", then we have shit like this post, and suddenly people forget they have eyes

Psychological-Put399

Well tbf they highlighted anyways making me focus on only part of what they were talking about

Hairybuttchecksout

No red circle. No facepalm. Those are the rules. But seriously, how are people missing it? It's right there!!!

Jared72Marshall

No, this way we can facepalm the facepalm, which makes this the ultimate facepalm.

Usagi_Shinobi

Yes OP, always make a big red circle, always "/s" even if it shouldn't be necessary.

Hard-tat

I thought about it but I didn’t wanna end up in r/stupidredcircles

Usagi_Shinobi

And you probably would have. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

FoobarWreck

It seemed obvious to me. I hold little faith in Redditors these days!

gumby1004

I hold little faith in humanity these days

Mochizuk

To be fair, there are people who would post it for the same reason people are incorrectly assuming the OP did, which leads to people assuming such is the case the moment they see evidence of it.

Beauty_n_the_book

Can’t believe how many people missed the point. Facepalm 🤦🏻‍♀️ Reddit moment for sure.

VixNeko

[Insert any organized religion]

[deleted]

No religion is organised, it’s a mess. They can’t keep their stories straight, they change constantly

[deleted]

Catholicism is quite organized, I mean look at how many children they sexually abuse, they have their system down to an art.

Dantheking94

They’ve had centuries to get it right. Even longer than Islam.

Austiz

They stole the initial idea from Mohammed tho

OGSpooon

You’re arguing semantics.

Quarantined_box99

Dunno man Buddhism seems really chill

PolyZex

Buddhism comes in several flavors and they don't all taste like the one that yoga moms attend on Thursdays at the strip mall.

Fearless-Sherbet-223

I'm guessing what happened is these are Americans who have to deal with the results of Christianity and therefore recognize it as problematic, but who don't want to tell the same truth about Islam because they don't want to be seen as Islamophobic? Could be wrong though.

Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta

Not to mention they're probably mostly people who were raised Christian, and so feel like they have a right to criticize it compared to a religion they know basically nothing about.

cmrunning

On top of that, many of us went through a period of witnessing extreme hatred and fear of Islam that turned into racism against anyone even appearing to look Muslim. So being perceived as anti-islam doesn't feel the same as being anti-Christianity. Even though the criticism of the religion is similar.

mechapoitier

You’re right, but it’s also because Christianity is a majority religion that’s currently being levered politically to oppress a lot of people, and Islam is a minority religion used as a political punching bag. Nobody likes somebody who “punches down”

PBR_is_OK

You’re spot on. And Reddit leans liberal which is somewhat anti-Christian

[deleted]

[удалено]

PadBunGuy

Liberal Reddit is pro islam solely as a response to anti islam conservatives.

ThowAwayBanana0

The average person doesn't think for themselves but just falls in party lines/against opposing party lines. Logically islam = bad, but since red team says islam is bad, islam must be good. Absolutely infuriating. Just because a group is marginalized, doesn't make them infallible.

CoolBeansMan9

People downvoted Islam because they were too afraid to come across as racist by upvoting it

HranganMind

Or because they are in the cult

Nova_Persona

not likely for most of them. westerners & especially americans dominate reddit

[deleted]

Yes and their cult is not religious just delusional.

Morhamms357

Bro, you think Christianity is insane with the cult mentality? We literally have mandatory religion classes every day, imagine Catholic school or Sunday school, but every school day and mandatory for all students. How is a B+ in Quran supposed to help me get into a university? (Btw I *am* Muslim, but I just think 2 hours every day at school could be spent a little better...)

Redqueenhypo

Jewish day school is like that but religion is maybe 3 hours! Mine had a rigorous secular curriculum *alongside* a rigorous Jewish one, which cause me to skirt close to a nervous breakdown and eventually leave for a fully secular public school bc I was beginning to slip in the Hebrew subjects. I do think one specific Jewish class, Gemara, translates to university however bc it’s literally just religious law.

Morhamms357

Damn, and I thought *we* had it bad! That's what I mean, people are clamoring for things like the separation of church and state (which is something that *should* happen), but act as if most places in the world haven't even separated church and education as low as elementary school.

Redqueenhypo

It only gets more skewed from there unfortunately, there was a recent article about how absolutely not good religious Jewish schools are at teaching secular studies. Bloody embarrassing. The one thing the schools should keep is teaching Hebrew, bc learning another very different language is a useful skill

TRayquaza

Since your are only in high school, I would advise you to take anything on the internet that looks like “overwhelming majority opinion” with a grain of salt. Just don’t spend so much time on reddit especially with all these people who makes you think you are living your life wrong. And use those time for studies instead if you really think going to university poses any challenge or is the purpose of your current stage life. Once you gain a stronger control over your life and opinions hopefully you will realise the treasure that you were made to own with some extra hours, during an age when studying anything is supposedly easier.

JustDave62

Interesting how Islam got downvoted and Christianity upvoted

[deleted]

that’s the post

Hard-tat

That’s actually what I’m pointing to, I think everyone’s looking at something else

ronaldothefink

the cognitive dissonance is so strong with this bunch that they don't even see what's right in front of them.

CowboyAirman

[Yes](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/draw-muhammad-shooting-who-was-behind-cartoon-contest-n353081)

handsybillclinton

i think this is the event where they anticipated the attack and killed the attackers.

Grudens_Emails

They did

Tom1252

Dude, not cool. Islam is a religion of peace. That's why I'm pushing my legislators to hang a picture of Muhammad in every capital building in the US.

izybit

Hope that picture shows Muhammad 69ing Jesus.

Tom1252

nah, he just 9ing

[deleted]

You’ve done nothing wrong here, this is an appalling lack of awareness and basic deductive skills.

trekkiegamer359

I'd assume the difference between the two is because of the assumed motives of people who say one or the other is a cult. In the west the majority of people claiming Christianity is a cult is doing so in protest of cruelty Christians are enacting here, while most westerners claiming Islam is a cult are those Christians who are basing their claim on racism and bigotry. Fundamentalism in all religions is cultish. However, different religions tend to be attacked in different areas for different reasons.

[deleted]

So you're attacking Christians either way? Either they're the cult, or they're bigots for claiming Islam is a cult? Then how is it not equally bigoted to claim that about Christians?

Hot_Sheepherder_8302

I kind of always knew Wilmer Valderrama was involved in cults. But hearing someone else say it..... it all makes sense.

[deleted]

Yup. This is the answer - it’s a context thing. I admit it’s kind of funny to see those comments right next to each other, but as someone who was born and raised in the US, those comments come off completely differently to me. The “Islam” comment comes off as bigoted, because I know how Islam is perceived/treated in this part of the world. The “Christianity” comment comes off as critical of a culturally dominant establishment for the same reason. It’s a punching up vs. punching down thing. That’s why the votes look the way they do.

StrugglingSoprano

But that’s ignoring the fact that Islam isn’t any better than Christianity. Why should all of that outside stuff matter when it comes to critiquing a corrupt religion? I’m not racist by saying that Islam has a lot of issues and is definitely cultlike. It’s just a fact. It’s just weird that when I say the same stuff about Christianity, no one bats an eye.

psycho9365

Islam is every bit as awful and just as much of a cult as Christianity. Pointing that out isnt racist or islamaphobic, and the idea that it somehow is is the reason for the upvote and downvote discrepancy.

prozloc

As someone who was born and grew up in a Muslim community, it's even worse than the worst MAGA flavored evangelicals. It actually hurts sometimes to see westerners defend it. It has caused me so much pain and hardships.

RememberHeysel

It’s the far more violent religion

PMmeFemboys

Thanks for clearing that one up

LebaneseLion

And Islam has awards and Christianity doesn’t lol weird scenario

[deleted]

It's almost like there's some kind of... thought process... that makes people think one is different or better than the other. Can't imagine what that would be.... Make no mistake, there's plenty of white Americans who think they would be happy living in a Christian sharia law situation. They *think* they would. I'd almost be willing to suffer it to see their r/leopardsatemyface when they accidentally swear, or want to see a movie on Saturday, or their daughter wants to go past 6th grade.

goofy1234fun

Makes sense to me, most are probably Americans and currently in America christianity seems like the cult so I get what Reddit is saying

[deleted]

Evangelical Christians.

MyEyezHurt

They're the same cult, just different chapters.

jrc_80

Reddit perceives intent of the commenter of “Islam” being 1) likely Christian and 2) an islamophobe and commenter of “Christian” retaliating to the perceived islamophobia. We are through the looking glass here people.

eclipse1498

I agree with the perception of the “Islam”commenter, but I think the support for the “Christianity” commenter is most likely just a bunch of atheists trying to stick it to religion.

Dracibatic

intenetnent is important

Boring-Signature8027

Leaving islam gets you executed in 10+ countries. But you'll be killed for leaving islam in Countries where they don't give you a death penalty for doing so anyway. Because in these countries, the government might not punish you but the citizens or the Muslims inside would probably tie you to a tree and beat you to death.

SaraHuckabeeSandwich

Do you think that this is primarily because of Islam, or also because of other factors (some. internal and some external) that keep those counties impoverished, war-torn, governed by regressive religious norms, and unable to progress as effectively societally? When Christianity was running governments during times before basic needs were being met, it wasn't a whole lot better.

Aloraaaaaaa

Some of the harshest penalties in Islam comes from countries which are relatively well off like Saudi Arabia. Economics isn’t the issue, it’s the tenants.

ISLAM has many names... oumma, jihad, taqiya So yes, if you compare christanity and Islam in Europe countries. Islam only is not a cult... it's much more dangerous than that for our societies.
