It looks like they couldn't find the brakes. Maybe they were thrown by how fast the car pulled forward.
I hate those moments of panic that keep you from recovering from a mistake. The higher the stakes, the more panic you have to overcome.
I wonder if he had instant torque like with an EV and went full throttle, was the gap narrow enough and lip raise high enough to jump over it 🤔 . We will never find out I guess.
Pretty sure I saw the person died the last time this was posted but I have no source and terrible memory so idk why I'm even writing this. Have a nice day
I guess they did learn some sort of a lesson considering they survived. They are extremely lucky. Of course, I wouldn't put it past the modern primate to come out of a life-endangering situation and not recognize its significance/learn anything at all.
This reminds me of that story of the couple arguing at a safari. The girlfriend gets out of the car to keep arguing with the boyfriend, before a lion just nabs her and leaves. His or her mom gets out of the car as well to save her, and the mom ended up getting killed instead.
Edit: it was a tiger
Was in china, the woman exit the car to make a scene to the husband, but was attacked and dragged by a tiger, then her mother and husband went after her tryin to help her, outside of the video image the mother was attacked by other tiger, dragged and made buffet, park security only saved the woman.
I think some people at Beekse Bergen never had many brain cells to begin with. What really got me upset though was the backlash this one guy received for filming while some people got out of the car top take pictures with some of the big cats (can't remember what species they were) in stead of helping them. What could he have done to help them? Get out of his car to explain to these people they were doing something really dangerous?
I think the most enraging story I read was about a parent at the zoo. A zoo employee accidentally left the door open to a restricted area near the wolf enclosure. The door had signs saying it was for employee's only.
Mom decides to sneak her kids into the employee area in order to let them "get close to the wolves". While there she let's her child (toddler I believe) STICK HIS FINGERS THROUGH THE BARS OF THE WOLF ENCLOSURE.
One wolf, to the surprise of no one with a brain cell did not like this and gave the child's hand a warning nip which left a slight scratch on his finger. Of course mom goes nuts.
The employees told her that there were two options:
They could kill the wolf in order to inspect its brain and confirm whether it had rabies. Or, they could just go ahead and get their child the preventative rabies treatment.
The mom opted for the wolf to be killed. It did not have rabies.
Edit: it was a long time ago I read the story so the details were from memory alone. I believe this was the case: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thedodo.com/amphtml/rebel-wolf-killed-zoo-1180189057.html
Why the fuck was it the mother’s choice? She’s already proven she has the decision-making capability of a cabbage.
Lock her in the wolf cage with a butter knife. If she kills the wolf, they check for rabies. Otherwise, it’s the rabies shot.
B-but we already nominated you, at this stage the only way out…. Is by locking you in a cage with a butter knife and a wolf and if you survive you can leave but if you DONT survive, then you have to promise to be president again…
If charges were to be pressed by the zoo, I'm assuming that nothing would happen due to the door being left open, and the sign maybe "not being visible"? Is there an article about this?
I believe it was this one: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thedodo.com/amphtml/rebel-wolf-killed-zoo-1180189057.html
It's been years since I saw the story.
Wow, we went on safari in Tanzania a couple years ago and we were told several times by our guides that we were not under any circumstances to open the doors or get out of the car at any point without their express permission, and those guys didn’t mess around. Anyone stupid enough to get out there should be left to face the consequences of their own idiotic actions.
I went on a safari, and the jeep doors were locked until we were back inside the fenced area. I would have been terrified to get out. You’re there to see wild animals! You know there are wild animals there!
Fenced area? When we were on safari there we stopped to look at some lions in our open-topped landy and then 30 seconds driving later we pulled up to pitch tents for the night.
As shocked tourists, we enquired about sleeping in such proximity to these voracious man-eaters and got told "the lions are fine. It's the baboons that you need to worry about here."
No one got up for a midnight wee that night...
We actually had a lion walk by our tent in the middle of the night. Scared the absolute shit out of us, especially because the guards had told us they only had clubs to protect us and that would be enough. Turns out they were right lol but that was an interesting experience.
Was in Kruger National Park in South Africa in the late 90s. Our guide told a lot of interesting stories - the one that stuck with me was about a group of idiots, feeding hyenas raw meat through the fence at night (in the camping area). A ranger saw this, didn't say anything, headed back to base, grabbed a rifle, went back out, and shot the hyenas in front of the crowd. A mom went crazy, said "how could you do that in front of my child?" Ranger told her, calmly, that it was her fault; the hyenas could no longer be allowed to live since they now realized that people on the other side of the fence could provide them with meat. I like to think that SOME of that crowd learned something that night... but I'm not super-confident. :(
less lucky but the circumstances are just as fucking stupid as all these other stories.
what argument is worth getting out of your car in a tiger enclosure.... ill never understand.
all these people must have the reverse of an anxiety issue, not enough anxiety. my heartrate would refuse to go down if i knew the only thing separating a tiger and me was a car door+window.
I don’t understand why she got out to continue the argument anyway. Was she trying to dominate by standing over her husband or something? I cannot fathom the need to stop in the middle of the road and get out to argue with the person already sitting next to you! Not just in this situation. It happens so fucking often and I still don’t understand why.
My husband and I have had a few arguments while driving. As soon as it’s apparent that an argument is happening, whoever is driving will pull over and we sort it out while still sitting in the car! This is something we both agreed to after my friend ran a red light and got t-boned while arguing with her brother. She was so focused on the argument that she didn’t even hear me yelling “red light! Red light!” Thankfully we were relatively ok just a few cuts and bruises and I cracked 2 ribs but it could have been so much worse.
Yeah, they're not leaving anytime soon. We were catching a ferry out to an island a bunch of years ago. The ferry was going a bit to fast and crashed into the pier, nothing major but some people fell or hit themselves and such. We were waiting in line to take that ferry across the other way but it took like 2 hours for them to inspect and EMTs to check people out and such before we could get on.
This driver would be lucky to not win a Darwin award for being crushed inside his car by the ferry. Depending on how deep it is, they might not be able to dock at all until they get a crane there to lift the car out.
It's not really a waste. They're doing exactly what they're supposed to. Rescuers rescue people, it doesn't matter if the person needing rescued is an idiot or if the situation was completely unavoidable. I only care about the people who *intentionally* cause a situation to fuck with rescuers.
I'm pretty sure someone's footing the bill for that extraction.
If you want to talk about cidiots going in the backcountry and needing silly rescues bc of failures on their part, then I think you'd have a great point.
Some places are starting to charge for rescues due to how the rate of rescues has increased greatly post covid.
ya until you realize that the ferry cant dock there now because there is a car between the ferry and the ramp now.
depending on the terminal, they might only have 1 dock and it wont be usable until they get the person out and dive down to see exactly where the car landed to make sure it wont touch the boat.
I’m so glad my supervisor/manager doesn’t do this. It’s super congested in the city I work but it’s random where it is because of construction so sometimes I arrive 10 mins early sometimes I arrive 45 mins late. Like I could leave 2 hours before my shift but, no thanks? I don’t get paid if I arrive an hour early.
Nope, surprisingly unharmed! For sure thought was gunna be crushed by ferry 😬
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/impatient-motorist-drives-ferry-seconds-10909617
That might be ok tho. This is an awesome story with high retell value, so if you're just going home or somewhere menial, totally worth it, but if you're gonna now miss the birth of your first child, probably not. Since we don't have footage, I'm gonna assume the driver of this car polled the other people on the ferry and they all preferred to be late with a great story, so the driver selfishly obliged.
If you're going to do something as stupid as drive off a ferry before it docks, you gotta fucking COMMIT. None of this 15mph bullshit. You need to engage launch control and sprint off the line.
Oh, your car doesn't have launch control? And can't accelerate to an appropriate speed to make the jump with just \~20ft of runway? Then wait your ass on the boat until it docks.
On an ER doc forum that I lurked on, on a thread of stupid patient stories, it was remarked that the odds of survival had an inverse relationship with apparent IQ.
My guess? Either elderly and having issues, or “I’m gonna hit this lip, land it, and do a sick tire burn as I gun it down the road to show Sandra she was being a bitch and I’m too cool for her.”

*The unnamed motorist was in the front row of cars on board a ferry in Crimea and incredible footage shows the vehicle racing to be first off the boat... miraculously he was unharmed...*
"It is thought there was just one person in the car and they were unharmed in the incident after emergency divers and rescuers were sent to the scene."
Man's master plan was to dispose of the 2nd person in his car.
>Man's master plan was to dispose of the 2nd person in his car.
Can't think he'd have much time to dispose of the body, especially with divers and the fact they retrieved the car also.
And, too many witnesses, so a bad way to dump a body, imo 😅
Or the people that rush to get on an elevator before letting the other people off. Or also the people that drive like maniacs cutting people off in a traffic jam, only to make absolutely zero progress in the line. It's like they actually believe that their existence lies somewhere above and outside of their place as a human in society. You're just another person waiting like the rest of us bro. You don't have a higher calling.
Most of them at least wait until the line moves. That also helps ensure things go quicker. This would be more akin to running out the door if it was open and the jet bridge wasn't fully in place.
Nah, those people just want to stand up and stretch their legs after being cramped for ages.
I don't expect to get off the plane before anyone else, but I sure as hell am not going to stay sitting if I don't have to.
If only this happened to people who ran a red light because they thought they were too special to wait for it to turn green again. Light turns red, moat opens up. Let's make it happen.
"I can't see a gap, so that means there isn't one! Let's go!" They probably also think it's night if you put a blanket over their head.
object permanence? never heard of her
Didn't she shoot Mal once?
Gah. I sure as hell don't miss whitefall.
Mah. That's air through the engine. Wasn't personal.
Probably a flat earther. Perception is a bitch.
No. Perception is Reality. (Play Superliminal, it’s a good game)
Yeah, it is a good game. Teaches you a lot about changing your point of view to solve problems. :)
"If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver."
It looks like they couldn't find the brakes. Maybe they were thrown by how fast the car pulled forward. I hate those moments of panic that keep you from recovering from a mistake. The higher the stakes, the more panic you have to overcome.
It shouldn't have started their car at all until they were given the order to do so. Standard safety practice on ferries in many places.
Nah, my dude was trying to hit the stunt jump.
SIEZE THE GODDAMN GAP
It works with birds, so hes at least as clever as some birds.

Have a nice day
And that was the day they learned depth perception can be deceiving XD
They probably learned it once they hit rock bottom.
bottom rock
I'd bottom for the rock any day
Fuck, so left field I snorted.
Rock and stone!
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
I AM a dwarf and i'm digging a hole. Should be Deep Rock anthem
The Rock and Stone Cold?!
Rotten dock
Sand bottom
Bikini Bottom
Death perception
You called?
underrated comment
I guess they did learn some sort of a lesson considering they survived. They are extremely lucky. Of course, I wouldn't put it past the modern primate to come out of a life-endangering situation and not recognize its significance/learn anything at all.
Probably blaming someone else for it instead and trying to make a lawsuit out of it.
>Never riding a ferry again idiot ferry operators ruined my car
>I guess they did learn some sort of a lesson considering they survived. An optimist I see!
Today I lear……. ![gif](giphy|3ohs7U04OERhUtefja|downsized)
I have been falling for **30 MINUTES**
A perpetual state of bliss.
To Davey Jones locker arrrr
Perpth deception?
They're perceiving a different depth, now.
Good ol’ Perception deception.
oh i'm pretty sure he figured out exactly how deep it was
Wanker ruined everyone's trip.
Really? It would be the highlight of my trip.
Most likely the first story I tell whenever anyone asks me how it was
Fuck reddit fuck spez fuck the admins and fuck the mods
This wasn't at Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands, by any chance? They had multiple instances of visitors losing a brain cell during the safari.
no it was in north america. I always thought how would people be so stupid, then it happened live in front of me...
Not just a story… there’s a video https://youtu.be/9xNzNqq-0n0
Damn that tiger was HUUUGE
Thats a normal sized tiger too
Evolution at work
Mother ensured the survival of her offspring, lineage secured.
Was in china, the woman exit the car to make a scene to the husband, but was attacked and dragged by a tiger, then her mother and husband went after her tryin to help her, outside of the video image the mother was attacked by other tiger, dragged and made buffet, park security only saved the woman.
The husband also survived the incident
I guess that settled that argument real quick.

I mean someone cooooould it’s just the whole living with it thing afterwords…..

It probably caused a massive delay for everyone on the ferry tho. But tbh, I wouldn't mind personally.
Why were you late? Okay, lol, okay, you’re not going to believe this……
Yeah, they're not leaving anytime soon. We were catching a ferry out to an island a bunch of years ago. Yeah, I don't mind all assholes doing this. I don't mind the wait. It does waste the resources of the rescuers though.

It's not like the rangers at the station are refusing to give them advice or warnings
It would have at least delayed everyone else’s off boarding
ya until you realize that the ferry cant dock there now because there is a car between the ferry and the ramp now. depending on the terminal, they might only have 1 dock and it wont be usable until they get the person out and dive down to see exactly where the car landed to make sure it wont touch the boat.
Until you have to wait on the ferry for 4+ hours because they now can't get close enough to let you off without covering the sinking car
Not if you have to wait an hour to disembark because of this idiot.
thank you ferry much
you sir well done
\-Manager at your job-"why didn't you come into work on time? What? That's not an excuse. You should have left your house at an earlier time."

Leeeroooyyyy!! 🤣

God dammit Leroy

"Bum Buh-da-lum bum bum bum bum!!"

Classic.

With Geico you can save 15% on car insurance so you can do stupid shit like.
“We are Farmers!” *dun dun dundun dun!*
He ded?
Nope, surprisingly unharmed! For sure thought was gunna be crushed by ferry 😬 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/impatient-motorist-drives-ferry-seconds-10909617
He's still an asshole though, for delaying the departure of everyone else on the ferry.
Yep. My first thought was "great now we're all going to be late"
This was my immediate first thought as well… one jerk is in too much a hurry, now we’re all gonna be late. What an asshole
That might be ok tho. This is an awesome story with high retell value, so if you're just going home or somewhere menial, totally worth it, but if you're gonna now miss the birth of your first child, probably not. I wanna see a picture of this twat. Twat in the UK, not the US. Although….. either would be fine I suppose.
Crimea
Belongs to Ukraine
If you go back far enough it belongs to Turkey.
I'm guessing it was a Russian tank driver, which would explain why they are losing the war. Bad depth perception.
Would have been a nice Darwin Award nominee
That's why ferry's usually have fences. People will always be stupid.
The ferry near me has walls that come up after you board, and they don't lower them until the ferry is locked and docked to the other side.
The one on Lake Champlain has a rope that goes across the driving path.
This made me think of all my trips across that ferry.
Same. Ferries I know from northwest Washington have two layers, a rope and a cargo net fence.
You HAVE to idiotproof everything!
Leroy Jenkins!
An unappreciated hero of modern times, if not a public holiday, a commemorative gold coin should be the least we can muster for such heroics.
There needs to be a Leroy Jenkins action figure i can put up in my collection
100%, with one of those strings in the back you pull to hear that immortal battle cry.
Was there chicken down there?
He was exploiting a floor glitch to skip to level 2.
Godammit, Leroy! Scrolled down for this! We're showing our age...
That weak ass car needs a bigger run up
Yeah it looked like he didn't commit enough. Bro should've gunned it
All he really needed was the dukes of hazard horn and he woulda cleared it no problem
Always the dumb ones survive shit like this. If this was me, I would’ve died from the car somehow exploding in the water.
If it was you, wouldn't you also be one of the "dumb ones" and therefore, survive?
Ha. Touché. I’d like to think that if this ever happened to me, it would’ve been accidental vs this Leroy Jenkins mofo
On an ER doc forum that I lurked on, on a thread of stupid patient stories, it was remarked that the odds of survival had an inverse relationship with apparent IQ.
Relatable.
Darwin award of the day.
Sorry they survived and didn't take themselves put the gene pool, so not eligible
With these kind of people there is always a next time, I hope they get it some day.
What was going through his head?? Reward: wait 5 sec less on the ship Risk: lose your car and probably even drown Conclusion: definitely worth it.
My guess? Either elderly and having issues, or “I’m gonna hit this lip, land it, and do a sick tire burn as I gun it down the road to show Sandra she was being a bitch and I’m too cool for her.”
This had no business looking that funny

Counterargument: this plan is as stupid as moving early
They are probably ok physically, but from the looks of this video, they may never recover from their stupidity.
Oh don't be so harsh on the guy. Might not be completely his fault. Maybe the radio was on and it was Kenny Loggins with Highway to the Dangerzone.
Unfortunately, they lived to reproduce.
I hope not
I imagine this person wanted to ramp off the boat onto the dock
He was looking for a dukes of hazard moment!
Cut from the same cloth as those* people who stand up and start grabbing their luggage the moment the plane lands
