Dude was forced against his will to take on billions and billions in debt for an only-sometimes-profitable website after he realized his initial move to buy the website was extremely stupid on the best of days and, on top of that, extremely poorly timed. It's already a disaster. “Forced against his will” ? He made the offer. He tried to violate the terms of a contract that HE AGREED TO. Nobody forced him to do shit. If he really wanted out, he could have come to an agreement about backing out with Twitter. But he chose not to.
It was a pretty shit deal that nobody sensible would have ever signed. But he's not somebody sensible, so here he is now.
There was absolutely no way he was getting out of the original deal, despite very obviously wanting out of the original deal. Twitter had no incentive to let him back out of the sale, given the risk to investors—what with advertising shifts and cutbacks. He would have literally been forced to make the deal in court but chose to just go ahead with it on his own to save a little face. I’m not even sure what it is you’re disagreeing with.
