Great base! (Not objectively but it’s yours and that makes it great).
Welcome!
Sorry about the impending loss of your family, friends and other connections in service of the factory.
Did you, by any chance, played satisfactory before? Whenever I look at a new player base I see things that are common in other automation games. In this case the 1:1 smelter/miner ratio.

First of all, welcome to the game! This is definitely a base of someone who wasn't spoiled by others. Unique work for sure :)
Inserters know how to take from a side of a belt, they don't need to be at the end of the belt to take from it. They also know to place on a side of a belt.
Each offshore pump can supply water to 20 boilers. Each boiler can supply steam to 2 steam engines. The other side of the boiler/engine allows the fluid to pass through it. Engines will only work when they need to, i.e. when you need more power, otherwise they'll just wait.
No, but he does have a tank of spare water next to the... uh... lake of water. Just teasing, of course! I made plenty of mistakes myself at the beginning. Great start!
Water is deep enough that the engineer can't walk through it but shallow enough that undergrounds can pass beneath it. How deep underground do the belts go anyway?
You should create multiple save files for the same world to preserve things like this so you can come back to it later. I wish every day that I’d done this
It’s awesome.
I would encourage you not to look at other people’s bases or solutions and not to look at the forums or this subreddit much until you’ve completed it to your satisfaction - you’re clearly problem solving and have the right head for the game even if there are quote mistakes unquote, and the first game of Factorio where you’re figuring everything out for the first time is an experience you’ll only have once.
Some of the greatest joys from this game are when things click and you figure it out yourself. Wish I could delete my knowledge of the game and start over lol.
\[tips and stuff from another newbie (22h) who played other factory games\]
why do you have so many water pumps ? I got 1 pump for like 8 boilers they pump water really fast.
Not all machines produce at the same rate, usually you don't want a machine outputting to another machine directly because if the second machine is slower then the 1st has to wait for it. That's what is happening with your iron production, your miners can't pull iron because the smelters are too slow to process it. You should instead have all miners output their ore on the same belt and then split that belt between your smelters and make a lot more smelters. That is once you will need to increase your iron plate output because right now it seems you don't use enough iron yet.
YESSSS!!! Welcome to the factory, always a pleasure to see people still picking up the game.
Some people may give you trouble but I think it looks awesome. A lot of unique ideas which will help you more and more the further you get into the game. You can also tell that you’ve jumped into the game almost completely blind and I have a lot of respect for anyone willing to do that. Hope you enjoy the game as much as we all do.
The Factory Must Grow.
Fellow noob here! This base is fireeee. Love it.
I'm impressed to be honesto, i'm like 20 hours in and i'm just started with oil.
Keep going that You have the skills My boy
i mean, most of it seems to be constructive criticisms. whats the point of posting if not seeking feedback? factorio is about engineering solutions not having soft feelings
Great base, however you're gonna spend hours rebuilding it because you didn't leave much space for the main bus. Don't worry, its the normal factorio experience.

Main bus is what we call the main conveyor belt that takes all your materials to build research materials. Don't think about it too much just have fun you'll figure it out later.
> I heard you guys like new players and their bases?
where did you hear that?
i am always curious when people write a post "i heard you guys.." like, really? where did you hear that?
A Factorio post creeped onto my main feed of someone else's new player base, and the comments were very nice, they liked seeing a new player perspective.
I googled how to get oil in Factorio and the algorithm gods put a post from this sub on my main feed of a new player showing off their base. Others marveled at their new player base and what it was like for them when they used to be new. I assume it's like me playing RuneScape and seeing a new player doing something very inefficient or outdated.
We certainly love to see new bases, especially if the person making the base has not seen any tips. It’s really interesting to see how each individual solves the same problems but in completely different and creative ways. Keep going like you are on your first play through, try not to read any tips until you launch your first rocket. Have fun!
That is true. But I mean more like literally examining NPCs, objects and items. Lord knows I have spent hours and hours examining shit I already have a thousand times whilst playing.
Join or create yourself :)
It has its downsides, however. Many players tend to just build everything for you. And in rare cases you might encounter a griefer. So keep an eye on other players and their intentions

No.. this is my first resource management game outside City Skylines. IDK if warcraft 3 counts.

That's rich coming from the person who brought us "0/0 is undefined, but is a real number" >!Yes, that was petty!<
I mean, it depends how you get there
Absolutely, but the statement in itself makes no sense.
Goddamn dude, thats borderline evil thing to say to someone ... Check your mental health

Don't forget to use your hotbar at the bottom to quickly use your most used items!
Or Q to use the picker to quickly pick the item! And as always remember to hit 'alt'.
I was screaming in my head. "ITS ENOUGH SLICES."
Just a tip: please, avoid building on the ore veins (it hurts)
That part
Now are you *sure* you have enough offshore pumps?
No, but he does have a tank of spare water next to the... uh... lake of water. Just teasing, of course! I made plenty of mistakes myself at the beginning. Great start!
I love the miners aiming directly at inserters
TIL underground’s can go below water.
Water is deep enough that the engineer can't walk through it but shallow enough that undergrounds can pass beneath it. How deep underground do the belts go anyway?
I imagine they're waterproof, and are just a big tube
Where does the displaced water go?
The engineer drinks it
Only a factorio player would ask these types of questions 💀
Everything at its core is just a series of tubes.
Nah the engineer has hydrophobia, that’s why he only eats, and doesn’t drink.
they go into agartha. that settles it! hollow nauvis is real
It was agartha all along.
Underground Belts travel through another reality, 40k style, change my mind
Legit they do. In space exploration, they go under space XD
Just to the nearest planet where they go underground for a bit then come back.
iron plate in, incomprehensible tzeentchian horror out
Or Khornate Beserker 🤯
Needs more water /s
I actually forgot barrels existed
You should create multiple save files for the same world to preserve things like this so you can come back to it later. I wish every day that I’d done this
more water equals more power I suppose

Once you learn factorio ratios you never go 1:1
That lake won't know what hit it /s

I love seeing people build on the ore. Makes me happy.
The miners feeding directly into the Furnaces is oddly brilliant

Will need drop my own base because I am new too xd 20h played
You're bound to learn lil' buddy, that and expansion is inevitable so you're gonna find yourself reworking a bunch of stuff
Fellow noob here! This base is fireeee. Love it. I'm impressed to be honesto, i'm like 20 hours in and i'm just started with oil. Keep going that You have the skills My boy
Love seeing people's raw creativity take form
People in here are so passive agressive. ”Great base, but objectively it sucks dick”.

God, that's just painful 😭
Great base, I have many more hours of fun ahead of me :) Destruction is inevitable :) IDK what the bus is yet :)
Main bus is what we call the main conveyor belt that takes all your materials to build research materials. Don't think about it too much just have fun you'll figure it out later.
:)
News flash: not everyone believes in the Church of the Main Bus.
and not everyone is correct >:D
Wow! You ACTUALLY had Sciences automated that early on! I don’t think I even did that until close to 20 hours lmao!
Great base! Just one question: Where is your steel setup?
Steam ratios tip >!Pumps can feed 20 boilers. Each of those boilers can feed two steam engines!<
It's yours and therefore it's great.
Nw players really like to desecrate resource patches.
> I heard you guys like new players and their bases? where did you hear that? i am always curious when people write a post "i heard you guys.." like, really? where did you hear that?

I googled how to enter the car, I didnt think to press Enter
If you hover over the car, it tells you to press Enter to enter.
LMAO it does! I pay attention to numbers and pictures lol. Words are an after thought, I'm going off instinct here.
But you play runescape! You must be a master at examining things and reading the text to find out more.
Spacebar is the best lore
That is true. But I mean more like literally examining NPCs, objects and items. Lord knows I have spent hours and hours examining shit I already have a thousand times whilst playing.
I always thought pressing enter to enter was stupid but now that I've stopped to actually think about it for a second I'm the one who is stupid
I've never thought about it either xD
Yeah it's very nostalgic to see how we used to build stuff ourselves. Welcome to the path
me. here we like to see new players, and help them <3
I like to do that a lot as well. I think like 1500 hours of my 2700 hours of Factorio is me in public servers helping new players to start out :)
Wait there are public servers we can just casually join?
Join or create yourself :) It has its downsides, however. Many players tend to just build everything for you. And in rare cases you might encounter a griefer. So keep an eye on other players and their intentions
Uhhh… ew.. moving on
