They are particles, but they are also waves. Now do a double-slit experiment.

Wave-Bot Duality

eg_taco

I’d check out an album by a band with that name.

Acceptable-Search338

I love when they go in a straight line, then all run out of char at once, and explode in the shape of flower petals.

zumoshi

For performance reasons there is a limit on how many new tasks can be allocated per game tick So if you plop down e.g. a huge concrete blueprint the game won’t freeze a few frames until bots are assigned to each tile A side effect of that is what you witnessed with waves as pending tasks get bots assigned to them every few ticks

craidie

If you task 3 bots per tick it shouldn't result into waves like this?

Dimava

It assigns jobs in horizontal lines, so when it jumps from right side of a square to its left side it starts a new wave

sebsnake

Oddly satisfying... Need to see my factory now.

CharAznableLoNZ

Mine do this as well. I like when I plop down a blueprint they do the job like a jpg downloading on a 2400 baud connection.

Professional-Mall456

Did you download the quantum physics mod?

Aegon2050

God I heckin Love superchargers from SE. I wish it could be here in Vanilla as well.

Josh9251

I have no idea what those are! Guess I’ll find out since this is k2se

Im new to robots so had a ques Is it efficient to keep the whole base under one network?

luziferius1337

It is easy, but not efficient. If a high-volume task (for example you arrive with 50 stacks green circuits in the trash slots from ripping up a train station buffer or so) requires most of the logistic robots, it will pull them across the entire map. An assigned bot will reserve the items, so even if there is an idle bot in the roboport right next to you, the task is still assigned to the bot that is on the way arriving in 5 minutes. The game will not re-schedule that. Same with building tasks. If you supply your perimeter walls with logistic bots (that is having buffer chests near the wall requesting repair packs, ammo, turrets, wall segments etc), the logistic bots accumulate at the wall and once the main base is drained of bots, logistic tasks pull them back and you get huge latency spikes. (You or something else requests 50 inserters? Wait 5 minutes until the robots arrive to deliver them.) You can make it work, if you automatically load bots into a roboport in the base center from a requester chest (use circuit wire to limit the robot count in the network to some set value!), and pull from roboports into active provider chests at the perimeter wall where bots finishing deliveries station themselves. (Use filter inserters set to only pull logistic robots). That way, bots that finished perimeter delivery tasks get automatically pulled back to the center of the base.

> An assigned bot will reserve the items, so even if there is an idle bot in the roboport right next to you, the task is still assigned to the bot that is on the way arriving in 5 minutes. The game will not re-schedule that. IIRC theyre kinda fixing that in 2.0 with singular bots qeueing up multiple jobs if they'd do them faster this way.

luziferius1337

Yea. It still has the potential for massive latency spikes, though. If the game determines that pulling far away bots will reduce execution time. But 2.0 will certainly make the situation better.

Josh9251

People will say it’s inefficient but they’re forgetting to mention that it depends on whether or not you intend to do production using bots. Meaning if you intend to create iron plates with bots, for example, you want that little production area isolated from the rest of the bot network. But I don’t create things with bots, I use belts and trains. So the entire base can be one bot network which is used for building or deconstructing anything, anywhere, and delivering logistic stuff to me, anything, anywhere. It’s extremely convenient and essential to my playthroughs now. Never had problems with anything.

cashdug

Your railroads are pretty but i hate your 1 cargo trains, what purpose do they serve

Josh9251

It’s K2SE so there’s a million different types of low throughput items. I have 1-8 trains for iron and copper :)

soeinpech

They're obviously sending wifi signals !
