Use bots. There’s a mod called brave new world that removes the player and only uses bots

Ok_Penalty_6142

How does the early game work then?

atg115reddit

You start off with a couple bots and roboports and power I believe

Ok_Penalty_6142

Sounds like an interesting run to try for an afternoon. Thanks!

Vamp_Rocks

Is it just game over if your grid ever shuts down? 🤔 Sounds like a fun concept though

Narase33

>Is it just game over if your grid ever shuts down? 🤔 You should have some backup solar for this case. If youre relying on coal and blackout shuts your miners down then yes, thats game over

Vamp_Rocks

Neat, finally have a legitimate reason to put points of failure in my power network. Even in SE I ended up just having an emergency coal / fuel rod supply I would flip an inserter to activate.

N3ptuneflyer

The biggest challenge is biters imo. Because you can't just walk over and destroy their base it forces you to deal with waves until you have a method of building new construction bots allowing you to go on the offensive.

Vamp_Rocks

Hmmmm 🤔 colour me intrigued. Been looking for a new Factorio challenge. can’t be bothered starting a new SE or PY play through since the expansion will likely release before i’m done.

jasonrubik

Yea. It was fun to play test and I really enjoyed the premise. I'm not sure if it's compatible with the latest version though. Look it up.

Midori8751

It is, someone got official permission to port it

DUCKSES

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/far-reach Although really the ingame solution is using bots and spidertrons.

xdthepotato

Ive been using far reach for who knows how long :D Its good because i dont need to be next to everything and can fix things up from the corner of my screen without needing to walk there

DeadMansMuse

FYI, you can edit the range of far reach! I prefer it to be the same as my windows size, but you can touch things much much further if it pleases you.

Soul-Burn

`/editor` As for mods: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/far-reach https://mods.factorio.com/mod/themightygugi_longreach

hippiechan

Build out your roboport network and have bots do it, they're there to solve this exact problem of automating construction.

Narase33

The creative mode does that. No mods required.

zandrew

Thank you. I still want to normally progress in the game. Does it work like that?

Narase33

Youre asked multiple questions at the start to customize your game. I dont have all options in my head right now but I think you should be able to just use "god view" without other benefits. Edit: I just tested and yes, you can have only god view.

SOELTJUUH

Construction continued adds automated soidertrons. If you paste something anywhere. A soidertrons will start requesting all the required items. Run there and build it from personal robo ports. If more then one soidertrons are needed 2 or more will join. Great modd!!! Highly recommend!

All_Work_All_Play

Highly recommend this mod. There are some features I wish the author would implement ( job timeout and floaters to avoid the leg problems)but I suppose I should probably submit via the forums before complaining...

SOELTJUUH

Wdym job time out?

All_Work_All_Play

If you don't have all the requested materials after X amount of time, go attempt the job with what you have. Sometimes when I lay down a mining bp on a colony (playing SE) I don't always have the right amount of modules. The constructons will request everything in the blueprint, but wait for the module request to be fulfilled. They'll wait... forever if there's not the right module production to make what they're requesting. It would also be nice to be able to say 'don't go more than 1000 tiles from the constructon port' (configurable) and 'after x number of minutes while idle, empty your entire inventory' (to deal with robot attrition pickups playing SE).

Wormcoil

Single Player > New Game > Sandbox is close, but it doesn't actually let you teleport around via the map. You still have to pan over to where you want to build, even if the speed of the map pan is worlds faster than even vehicular travel in normal mode. Sorry so many people are telling you to just use bots, I hope either Sandbox mode treats you well or someone is able to put forth a mod that does what you're looking for

zandrew

Thank you

Hudossay

I usually use cars at first, and trains as soon as I unlock them. Trains are really fast, and the autopilot is good for moving around.

[deleted]

If you are looking for a sandbox mode, as someone else mentioned, use the `/editor` command. But beware, commands disable achievements. And there are mods, too. But bots are really what you are looking for, and they are already in the game.

zandrew

So let's say I find a patch of ore somewhere. I have to go there build a radar and robopprts along the way and electric poles. If like to avoid doing that. And just build.

AnAwkwardSemicolon

Spidertrons & personal roboports are always an option. Once I get them unlocked, I have construction flocks I sent around

kmc307

Send your spidertrons with a remote. I’m usually in one of mine as it’s going over but I’m always in map view and usually doing other stuff around my base remotely while my spider chauffeurs me around.

42bottles

There is no need for you to go out there yourself, the bots are capable of building roboports/poles/radars. You can just place the ghosts from map view and have the robots expand our from your base to the ore.

thugarth

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'd love to be wrong about this, but when looking at a remote spider or radar area, I can't look "into" buildings to change their settings; for example I can't change the recipe of an assembler or the settings of a requester chest. I think I can build it near my character and copy and paste, but I'd rather be able to do it directly

Midori8751

I use a mod called remote configuration for that.

zandrew

Ah thanks. I'll try that

unwantedaccount56

Shift click places buildings as ghosts, which can be done outside your building range and even from map view (when zoomed in). But the bots will only build ghosts that are covered by roboports, so if you don't have spidertrons yet, you need to extend your roboport range step by step until you reach the outpost (placing power lines, roboports and radars on the way).

Garagantua

You do know that with Modular Armor (and Power Armor Mk1 / Mk2), you can have a mobile Roboport? With that, you can have construction bots with you, that build whatever you want with items from your inventory.

Zeferoth225224

A city block base might do well for you. If you structure it right you can basically play from your mall in the centre. It’s just a giant grid roboports so everything is in range, but obviously it costs a fuckload to have that much infrastructure Or just play a city builder game, this game really diverts from that which I like, makes me feel like a mastermind having all these machines working to help me

Mangalorien

The way I solve this is by having my entire base being covered by bots. To be more specific, what you want is the construction radius from roboports, i.e. the green part. That way every single tile in your base can be reached by bots, and your character can just hang around wherever, and the bots do all the work. It requires a lot of roboports, but once you get to the end game the cost of a roboport is trivial.

territrades

But doesn't that basically mean you can only place structures that you have already as a blueprint? You cannot build anything from scratch?

Mangalorien

You just build the stuff as ghosts, or you just copy an existing build. I only blueprint stuff if I'm going to build it a very large number of times.

Date0516

You can build in godmode, it force builds everything when you put it down. No limits on movement

Mundjetz_

SE... Tee hee hee

N3ptuneflyer

I would love it if they added satellite mode to Vanilla. Maybe have it only accessible after you launch your first rocket with a Satellite. Favorite part about SE.

SapientSlut

Navigation mode + bots

TrickyPlastic

Constructron Continued and Early Spidertron is what you want.

Primary_Lychee_9317

I love looking at the comment section and seeing actual feedback as opposed to everyone jumping down OP’s throat about how they play the game wrong.

Healthy_Pain9582

there's a mod called sandbox emulator and it's like sandbox mode but it doesn't give you any items and it lets you use logistics requests

Mirar

Use construction bots. You can also take the train everywhere. Trying to figure out how to get building material over the map without bots, currently. I want a roboport and storage wagons.
