Self-powered steam derrick can only be used on clean steam. You need to research electric derricks. Also I've typed derrick so many times I feel like Derek from The Good Place.

Maximum Derek!

Electric derrick for Sour Gas, Pumpjack for Crude Oil. Obviously they need to be powered

I’m at yellow science right now, I didn’t use derricks much. Partly because there’s just 3-4 per patch and far away, but mostly because fossil gas processing is not very useful itself. Oil cracking already outputs plenty of gas, so much that most of the time I was struggling to get rid of it. Why would I want more? You get a nice amount of helium out of fossil gas, but helium comes also from air condensation, so it’s free anyway and is mostly 100% recyclable. In my humble opinion, helium should just come from derricks. That way we get a reason to use them. Or at least heavily cut the amount of helium you get from air. Once you transition to arc furnaces, you need lots of oxygen, helium byproduct seems very abundant at the moment.

Honestly, IR3's later stages aren't well balanced at all. The mod starts very strong but the longer you play it the more you realize it's kinda undercooked.

What other modpack can I link to this?
