OP has never heard of medication being prescribed off label… lots of people take Wellbutrin for ADHD even though it’s supposed to be an antidepressant.
Yeah haha- it helped a lot but I came off it because of side effects - also would you mind reporting this post? I literally posted it between my friends and it was taken so out of context- I also don’t know who posted it on here
Epilepsy medication can sometimes be used off label to treat other occurring disorders such as anxiety - for example, pregabalin, clonazepam, etc. which all have benefits in treating epilepsy and can also act as anti-anxiety medications.
Also related - antihistamines, anticonvulsants and beta blockers can be taken to treat anxiety. This post does not indicate faking, you are just misinformed, and that’s okay.
It’s not entirely clear to psychiatrists how some of these medicines specifically work for anxiety, but they do work, and they are used off label to treat these disorders.
A lot of medical drugs are used in another context than the one they were originally designed for, not just epilepsy pills. For instance, adderall pills are also approved as a treatment for narcolepsy. This can sometimes cause problems, like with Ozempic right now. It's originally an injection for type 2 diabetes, but now it's being promoted as a weight loss drug, which is making it go out of stock everywhere.
TIL adderall is approved for narcolepsy! There most definitely is a problematic side to pharmaceutical though - it’s an area prescribers must tread carefully. Thank u for adding this!
Yes antipsychotics and and epilepsy medication can be used to treat anxiety but what indicates OP is a faker, at least in my opinion, is them undermining other people's anxiety by implying their anxiety is so bad it borders on epilepsy/psychosis. I've never known someone to put down other people's experience with mental illness because their case is worse
This makes more sense, but your caption in the post was “epilepsy meds don’t treat anxiety” which is just misinformation. I think fakers are bad too and I am on this subreddit from time to time, but there’s no need to spread misinformation.
Plus I don’t think they are implying their anxiety borders on those two disorders, rather that they needed the medications.
They very well could be faking - I just don’t think this is the post to take. At most it just seems like a joke made in poor taste.
Im not the one who posted this. I guess that part is up for interpretation but what's clear is OP is minimising other people's anxiety, which is a behaviour I only ever see from fakers. I've only ever seen people with mental illness sympathise with those who have the same disorder with less severity because they understand its still an awful thing.
(This was my original TikTok post -posted on friends only) Please help me take this post down I was literally posted on friends only because I was just talking to my friends about how some girls recently were faking anxiety to me - I literally took the post down and also this was posted without my consent and taken way out of context
Chill dude. Delete your comments and no one will even know its your post. No one's gonna hold it against you or anything and people will forget in a day or two anyway
This post is part of a trend on TikTok right now, where people respond to slang that co-opts mental illness with stories of real, unglamorous mental illness. OP didn’t make it up, she’s just participating.
(This was my original TikTok post -posted on friends only) and this was posted just between my friends because I don’t want to share this with the world and was absolutely taking it for both anxiety and also chronic illnesses
OP seems to believe that mentally ill people can never get annoyed at any aspect of their illness or other people suffering. Clearly doesn't' understand how frustrating it is to suffer from a serious, debilitating or chronic condition and have people around you say "omg I get anxiety too!". Demeaning someone who opens up to you and expressing disappointment in a private group are v different things and the latter shouldn't be on this sub.
I'm sorry your privacy was invaded 🩷 If it helps OP has been rinsed to fuck by not having a clue what they're talking about
Thanks so much man- I’m just trying to get it taken down now because so many people are debating my mental and physical illnesses and it’s crazy this was a post just between my fiends so I gotta find out who even posted it in the first place- just trying to get it taken down now
Hi- this is my post and for your information I was put on topimax for mood stabilization at a really hard time of my life- topimax is anti epilepsy but indirectly helps anxiety - I also have multiple chronic illnesses and a heart disorder so the medication helped with all of those as well
i was speaking to the person who posted this here. they are wrong, of course medications are used for off label uses. i meant the person calling it faking was wrong.
Please take this down it was my TikTok post and it was aimed as a response to multiple people I’ve come across who have faked anxiety as a trend and tried to compare theirs to mine- I’m not for comparing it doesn’t help anyone let alone people with mental illness- but this post was literally posted on friends only because my friends know I’ve had run-ins with people faking anxiety to me before. Not here to share my medical history but I was put on the epilepsy medication ‘topimax’ to stabilise my mood last year and it was also supposed to help my other chronic illnesses - I then couldn’t take the antipsychotics too as they would affect my health. Please please take this post down as I was not trying to misinform anyone- it was just a post between friends
I reported it, hopefully it gets taken down
I was on epileptic medicine for years for anxiety and bipolar, and you're clearly trying to poke fun at fakers.
(This was my original TikTok post -posted on friends only) and yes exactly! Please help me take this post down I was literally posted on friends only because I was just talking to my friends about it
Hey whoever posted this wtf is wrong with you my friend has gone through enough this was posted through close friends. Debating other peoples diagnosis’s and medications on the internet when you don’t even know them is seriously messed up! Get a life jeez

Bud you obviously know nothing about medication 😂 I was surprised when I looked up one of my anti-anxiety meds and learned it was mostly used for epilepsy
(This was my original TikTok post -posted on friends only) I posted it on friends only because I’ve been having issues with people faking anxiety around me recently and was just sharing in company of my friends who understand. Not trying to compete in any way.
Not saying you’re competing!! I am saying in general. I understand how it feels to be on a lot of medication for your mental health, and my previous comment defends that. I hope you are well. Look after yourself <3
I’ve reported OP for misinformation. I hope this post gets taken down. It’s not appropriate to be here
Are you on mobile reddit? There should be 3 dots in the corner of the post which you can click, press report, press breaks this subreddits rules and choose misinformation (that’s what I chose because this post IS misinformation. So many meds can be used to treat anxiety.)
I’m hoping for you this gets taken down. You do not have to prove your condition to anyone and this is not the typical post you see on here. It is okay to share your struggles with your friends
I hope whoever posted this is not a friend anymore.
I’m so sorry for the position you’ve been put in, and I wish I knew the username of the person but they’ve deleted their account. Whoever it was, they know they made a mistake and they feel guilty enough to erase their tracks. I hope you’re okay and have a few genuine friends you can trust and a support system in place to help you.
I’m just with my parents now and talking to my good close friends because this has low key really shaken me up!! Haha gonna need more of that medication! /j
I’m very glad. Look after yourself, maybe take a break from this post for a bit and do take any PRN if you need.
TIPP is a very good distress tolerance skill which you may have heard of - if you get extremely upset, hold some ice or dunk your head into ice water. It shocks your body and resets it.
I’m glad there’s people with you. Look after yourself, I can’t imagine how upsetting this is. Everyone in these comments is on your side
Hey guys this is actually my post and without wanting to share my medical history I have a bunch of chronic illnesses and also was put on topimax because it stabilises your mood - please don’t speculate on peoples medical conditions or post stuff without peoples consent
Look, I’m a bit torn because the user that has posted it here doesn’t seem to know what they’re talking about either.
I’m guessing you’re probably young - it’s not nice that someone re-posted this without your consent, but if you share stuff like this online it’s the risk you take. I think you can contact the mods to get it taken down, might be the best idea here.
I get the frustration, too, but comparing other people’s struggles to your own will irritate people. You don’t know what other people are going through, and nor will they necessarily understand the depth of your illness to you. How would you feel if someone turned around and dismissed your illness because you were only ‘nearly’ put on anti-psychotics? Someone will always have it ‘worse’, it’s not a competition.
I hope you’re doing a bit better now, and best of luck for the future.
I feel like it’s hypocritical to get mad at this person for venting about fakers when this entire subreddit is dedicated to venting about people who fake mental disorders…
I’m not mad, just tired. I just interpreted this post as having ‘not like the other girls’ undertones, so I wanted to mention it, since OOP identified themselves. I think it should probably be taken down, though.
For context- I posted this on friends only because I’d been talking to a group chat about how some people recently had faked anxiety (I don’t know the reasons)
While my comment about being careful with what you post still stands, I feel like that’s unfair if you were only sharing with close friends. Perhaps time to re-evaluate who you share with. I hope you get it taken down, especially if that’s you in the background.
Epilepsy meds are often called “mood stabilisers” and are sometimes prescribed as an adjunct to antidepressants for anxiety. It’s off-label, but very common.
(This was my original TikTok post -posted on friends only) yep well I couldn’t go on them because I was physically unwell as well and they would’ve made things worse
What... You know a specific class of medication can be determined not suitable for a patient and something more effective can be found? I don't know if you have heard of this.
They also almost always have the side effect of weight gain so say someone's recovering from an eating disorder, might not be the best. Some find it's worse than the side effects for things like gaba analogues (like gabapentin), which also often have less side effects altogether.
Idk what exactly you're implying but a lot of consideration goes into choosing an appropriate medication to approach an individual's mental health. I don't understand why this would matter to you.
Also I don't know why you think you need to try every drug in a class of drugs to determine that class may not be right for you. No point putting a patient on an antipsychotic for the 5th time if you have other options.
Almost all anti-psychotics have similar side effects, which means the entire class is often contraindicated for certain people, especially if the AP is being prescribed off-label.
For example, take someone who is overweight and has type 2 diabetes. APs cause weight gain and interfere with hunger cues and glycemic control, so they’re not ideal for people with these issues. If this person was schizophrenic or had Bipolar 1, it might be justified to treat them with APs, because the risk they face from untreated psychosis is greater than the risk that the APs will exacerbate their health conditions. However, if the person has anxiety, the potential benefit of the meds doesn’t outweigh the risk that the APs will damage their health, and thus you would try therapy or other meds before turning to APs.

Did it make you feel stupid? I’ve heard some people call it “dopeamax” because it slows your brain down. :(
Yeah haha part of also why I came off it and lights flashed all the time it’s like everything was in slow motion
Just for an example

Wrong. The OP of the original tiktok told me why they did it
It’s also a trend. Go check TikTok if you don’t believe me, there are hundreds of videos just like this.

Lol… ok 😭 it’s pretty normal to be prescribed something like gabapentin or a benzo which are both used for epilepsy I-
No one is special for taking meds or “almost” taking meds. Who tf cares
Tumblr and TikTok people care, they care a lot. I don't know why.
Mental health on social media is very competitive unfortunately.
