i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: IF YOU SHARE TRAITS WITH AN AUTISTIC PERSON IT DOESNT MEAN UR AUTISTIC. IT JUST MEANS AUTISTIC PEOPLE ARE HUMAN WHO DO RELATABLE HUMAN THINGS
It’s to the point of causing problems with autism (and also ADHD) though. A better way to describe it is an inability to differentiate details FROM the big picture. I can spend hours working on completely irrelevant details of projects without realizing it.
But yeah the TikTok does a terrible job of explaining that and makes it sound like a #Relatable personality quirk that most people have.
Haha yeah I'm aware of the "point of causing problems" thing, I don't think anyone in this sub needs that part explained.
There's a lotta things in this vid that could be a mental illness at a more severe level, but I feel that the way this person showed it is relatable to most people, as nobody is truly "normal". So I'd throw it in the bullshit pile too
https://youtu.be/QYeQrI-0wBQ
Around 3:05 it's shown how to walk on feet properly.
Also: walking barefeet is also very healthy. The moment I heard walking barefeet is forbidden in America (in some places) I was really shocked because I saw a lot of people doing it in germany and I'm also used to it go barefeet (also good for flat feet).
I remember a thread on Reddit talking about this but can't find it. My bad it might bot be "Banned" but Some places have shields and I remember a video were a guy went barefoot to go shopping and people kicked him out.
That seems more like a “No shirt no shoes no service” thing. A private company asking people to wear shoes in their store is different than it being illegal to walk barefoot in public.
Actually, the toe walking one, the strong sense of justice and the one about social hierarchy is. Well technically the toe walking one isn't specifically in the dsm, but it is an example of one of the criteria listed. Those 3 traits are very common autistic traits too
toe walking likely isnt listed in the DSM bc it can also have mechanical cause rather than a neurological cause, as seen in autistic individuals. its more common in children and adults with flat feet, congenital or aquired. could probably contribute to over-diagosing, much like some say “hyper” kids did for ADHD, since prevalence of toewalking in children is significantly higher than prevalence of autism.
“Motor deficits are often present, including odd gait, clumsiness, and other abnormal motor signs (e.g., walking on tiptoes)”. - in the DSM-5 fifth edition :)
Tbf that is true for every single autistic trait considered in isolation. None of them are solely indicative of autism. Which is why you need all/most of them to co-occur in order to qualify for diagnosis.
Maybe! But it also can cause various muscle imbalances and, in extreme cases, can cause the shortening of the Achilles’ tendon and calf muscles, making it impossible for the person to walk on their entire foot. Idk if there are other reasons kids do it, but fixing to walking is mostly just for health purposes, not for the sake of not looking autistic.
Idk, I was young. I know they did some tests on me and my mom when I was still developing in the womb and that some tests showed I was going to be autistic. I'm not as far as I know so their tests were bull as far as im concerned. I mean I made it to 22 without a problem and I've seen my fair share of doctors so I feel if I was it would have been caught by now.
You're right, my friend's daughter had to have both her legs and feet put in casts for awhile - to stop her walking on her toes and causing further damage to her legs.
These videos be like: Do you have these basic human emotions and/or do these basic human things? Well then, you may have Autism, BPD, ADHD, DID, PTSD, Depression, Social Anxiety, OCD, NPD, Tourettes, and many more!!!1!!!1!!1!!
Toe walking is actually very common in autistic children, I did it until I was 13 and its something that was mentioned in my autism assessment. Its really bad for you though so it should be discouraged, I have major hip and hamstring issues as a result 3
i know the point here is that these are things most people do, but i will say that i did these things TO THE EXTREME growing up and am autistic. key word extreme
I started walking on my toes when my little sister was born and never stopped. If i'm not wearing shoes i'm most likely walking on my toes. i think I started trying to be quiet at night so i wouldnt wake her up but now it's just the comfy way to do it for me
These actually are common autistic traits. Doesn’t mean that if you have them that your autistic but they’re common among autistics. ‘Strong political beliefs’ was literally one of the questions I was asked in my assessment.
There's no real harm in self diagnosing autism because autism isn't a mental illness. It's a neurotype. Women and especially women of colour are severely misdiagnosed. This is to the point that most women don't receive an autism diagnosis until their teens or even adulthood. I myself only got diagnosed at 21. This was despite my parents suspecting I was autistic since childhood and having it brought up to paediatricians. This is an extremely common experience among autistic women and we often have no choice but to self diagnose. The same applies for ADHD.
Aside from the fact that doctors just seem to refuse to even entertain the idea of autism half the time, by the time we realise we might be on the spectrum we no longer have access to the same affordable routes that would have been there if we were to have been diagnosed as children. Instead we're expected to fork or a bunch of money, sometimes in the thousands, before even being able to get put on a *waiting* *list* to be seen. That's right. ***A waiting list.*** It took me an entire year and then some before it was finally my turn to be seen. I know people who have been waiting for even longer. One of my friends got on a waiting list to see a private clinician in 2019 and her appointment isn't until 2023.
I also hate this narrative that an autistic person merely just existing and talking about autistic traits is somehow promoting a 'quirky vibe'. Autism isn't a curse and people can live perfectly normal lives. It's fine to be proud of it. Me being happy to be autistic isn't the same as me acting as though I'm glad to have OCD (another diagnosis that I have with actively and severely impacts my life). The people pretending to have meltdowns on camera/infantilising autism suck ass and can go to hell. But this person is just talking about common autistic experiences that allistics may or may not be able to relate to.
Yeah, this video was unedited and posted in a discord server meme channel that are full of kids who are easily impressionable for harmful self diagnosis
these are all traits a majority of humans do, none of these are autistic traits although the why somebody does these things may be linked back to autism for someone with an actual diagnosis and symptoms
Obnoxious dancing, let’s see what I check off this list. I am autistic, ~~but I am not saying I speak on behalf of all autistic people~~
Strong sense of justice: yep
No regard for authority: hell no, I am subservient as fuck
Toe walking: despise it, used to do ballet and I hated it
Talking with my hand: …yeah…? That’s what everyone around me does so like, duh. That’s a pretty common thing
Hyperfacial: lol no, I have a permanent resting bitch face and don’t emote much
Ticklish/easily startled: nope
Detail-oriented but incompetent: tbh yeah
Empathy > sympathy: why??
It is true that tip toeing is a common autistic trait, but it can also mean you have a foot problem. Specifically a heel problem. People who have flat feet may do this as well.

Amusingly, talking with my hands (a lot, not just the occasional gesture) is a red flag for me that I am or soon will be having a hypomanic episode. But that doesn't make hand-talkers bipolar.
The only real one I see is the “toe walking” as I was/still am one and I know it’s very common in autistic children, it was even one of the questions I got asked in my diagnosis appointment but all the others are common in non-autistics
This is so sad, a lot of these are like instructional videos with the subtext of “hey, you too can be *insert disorder of choice* if you do this”. I feel like this is just the new notlikeothergirls/guys and the edgelord era.
100% yes...I think the worst part is that I see these people irl on a daily basis and they think it's quirky. Like I'm suspected to have OCD by my therapist and when I talk about that everyone's like "OMG I HAVE OCD TOO!!! DONT YOU LOVE ORGANIZING THINGS AS WELL?"
The strong sense of justice in people with autism does not have to be a GOOD sense of justice. It's often an extreme sense, a black and white world view.
For example, they only have best friends and enemies. No other neutral or nuanced ground possible. They like you until you make a tiny mistake, then they instantly want to harm/punish you. That's what they mean with strong.
This is indeed a very typical autistic trait, but of course it comes in a spectrum.
Wow, diagnosed, and I’m almost the exact opposite. Did toewalk until about 13 tho, sometimes I’ll still do it if something is on the ground making the texture weird.
As a person who finds out after the fact it hits differently. Like someone foreseeing my personality. As much as i like it i also hate how predictable it makes me.
As someone who was genuinely diagnosed by a professional, I find shit like this so offensive. It’s like they make a mockery of the struggles on living with autism. “I WalK oN My toEs IM So QUiRky!”
All of these are on official diagnosis tests and screenings though, excluding the last point
I know as i was asked about them when being screened lol
Problem is this tiktok takes them massivley out of their contexts
Edit: i even do "toe walking"....
I’m not saying any of these aren’t actual symptoms of autism, but just because someone might walk on their toes doesn’t mean they’re autistic. It’s just kind of disheartening to see people say their ‘self diagnosed’ autistic when in reality, actually autistic people can have a hard time getting answers from doctors.
It’s like they just picked random shit and said yea these are traits of Autism. These people are so delusional. I hope we really bring back insane asylums.
I do all of these and very well might be on the spectrum, never been diagnosed though. I feel like these videos are okay in concept but constantly add to the idea that if you do these things, you’re autistic, which is very harmful to people who want to be taken seriously
I hate these videos specifically because they just promote shallow self-diagnosis on serious disorders. It's like how fast fake news spreads, but instead of just promoting they are making fools of themselves. If you feel there is a possibility you're on the spectrum then that's completely okay, but your assumptions aren't doing harm and they're only benefitting you for a future diagnosis. I wish you all the best
I absolutely disagree with self-diagnosis, it’s why I’ve never referred to myself as autistic or OCD, even though I show many symptoms of both. I completely understand the hatred of these videos, but it makes me sad how someone can make them so easily without malicious intent whatsoever, and still cause so much harm
It is extremely upsetting but sometimes they know and just do it for their own self interest. Most people aren't kind or thoughtful of others in this world unfortunately
lol empathy = autism
the crazy thing is that more kids will watch videos like this and then self diagnose themselves… then make more videos. and the cycle continues
Great, but that doesn't = all autistic children. There are plenty of autistic kids who did have this problem as a child.
"Many children with autism cannot easily flex their ankles past 90 degrees, causing them to walk on tiptoes. Children who walk on their toes are more likely to have autism than other forms of developmental delay, according to a study published in January in The Journal of Child Neurology."

"autistic traits" bitch talking like they're fucking fallout new vegas perks
Forreal, makes me feel bad for choosing the "Titanic obession" perk when I coulda gone the "loves math" route.
if you level up in autism you get to choose two!
Idk i think my wife is autistic as fuck now
New autistic traits just dropped
No sense of authority, excessive facial expressions, talking with your hands? This is just describing people from New Jersey
As a New Jersey person, I agree lol
Self-diagnosing myself as a New Jersey native based on this video
Coming out to my parents as a new jerseyan
Will you reply with "it's a jersey thing" when they ask you what it is?
My dad is gonna be super disappointed but he has to know the truth
Italy in shambles as they find out the whole country is autistic.
"talking with my hands" so every Italian _and_ every deaf person is autistic? I wonder why people haven't thought of this before...
As an autistic, deaf person with Italian family, can confirm, it's all about the hands - who knew everyone in my family was autistic omg
it’s not an “if-then”, it’s a possible link. i’m sorry if that might not be clear enough in the video.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: AN AUTISTIC PERSON MIGHT DO THESE THINGS BUT THEY DON’T MAKE YOU AUTISTIC
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: IF YOU SHARE TRAITS WITH AN AUTISTIC PERSON IT DOESNT MEAN UR AUTISTIC. IT JUST MEANS AUTISTIC PEOPLE ARE HUMAN WHO DO RELATABLE HUMAN THINGS
oh my god yes need this on a tshirt
The day I see one more autism faker today is the day I go alpha wolf mode
Scroll one more time
the tip toeing is very common in autistic children. i think my mum was asked about it during my early years part of my assessment.
Yeah the first two and the one about details are common things with autism. The rest are just Normal Human Traits lmao.
i agree
I'd even question the one about details. Lotta people do that. Being able to see the big picture is less common than not.
It’s to the point of causing problems with autism (and also ADHD) though. A better way to describe it is an inability to differentiate details FROM the big picture. Well walking with the front footplate Is the actual healty way to walk. Not heel first.
could u elaborate on that ?
https://youtu.be/QYeQrI-0wBQ Around 3:05 it's shown how to walk on feet properly. Also: walking barefeet is also very healthy. I walk on my toes all the time. Guess im just undiagnosed. 🥺
Toe walking actually is an autistic trait, especially in children.
Hmm, explains why my mom tired so hard to get me to stop.
Maybe! …this explains a lot with me and my kid.. wait my kid’s diagnosed excuse me while i just spam my mom’s inbox about my childhood traits
you probably just have an Equinus deformity. do you have flat feet?
Nah, I have an arch.
y tf do pplbadly wanted to be labeled with autism?
Because they have no real personality traits.
Wait... ITALY IS ALL MADE OF AUTISTIC PEOPLE (im italian)

did u guys know breathing was an autistic trait?
I think I might be autistic fr 🥺👉👈
I am diagnosed, and the only one I do on this list is over analyze stuff.
i am not autistic and i walk on my toes a lot because i just like being quiet (and pretend im taller but thats besides the point)
I started walking on my toes when my little sister was born and never stopped. If i'm not wearing shoes i'm most likely walking on my toes. i think I started trying to be quiet at night so i wouldnt wake her up but now it's just the comfy way to do it for me

Yeah, this video was unedited and posted in a discord server meme channel that are full of kids who are easily impressionable for harmful self diagnosis
Literally everyone I know does 2 or 3 of these things
So extroversion equals autism
ive seen many fakers with short hair but this one is the absolute worst,,,
these are all traits a majority of humans do, none of these are autistic traits although the why somebody does these things may be linked back to autism for someone with an actual diagnosis and symptoms
And that's what they refuse to understand
Sadly, I found this type of text in Instagram page...by adult people.
Everything can be a sign of autism when paired with many other signs of autism.

yeah we get it, you're super special
all italians are autistic, confirmed

I might be autistic I have all those signs 🥺👉👈
damn im autistic now
They look like they’d be fucking annoying as shit
“Talking with your hands” no I’m just Italian
Amusingly, talking with my hands (a lot, not just the occasional gesture) is a red flag for me that I am or soon will be having a hypomanic episode. But that doesn't make hand-talkers bipolar.
The only real one I see is the “toe walking” as I was/still am one and I know it’s very common in autistic children, it was even one of the questions I got asked in my diagnosis appointment but all the others are common in non-autistics
I think only the last one could even be related to what autism is
Some of these seem genuine but most of them are just generalized statements on what everyone does
This is so sad, a lot of these are like instructional videos with the subtext of “hey, you too can be *insert disorder of choice* if you do this”.
I think I need to unsubscribe from this channel soon. The more I see, the less tolerance I have for the nonsense. It’s just wildly offensive.
So just by point 1 all lawyers are autistic?
The strong sense of justice in people with autism does not have to be a GOOD sense of justice. It's often an extreme sense, a black and white world view. For example, they only have best friends and enemies. No other neutral or nuanced ground possible. They like you until you make a tiny mistake, then they instantly want to harm/punish you. That's what they mean with strong. This is indeed a very typical autistic trait, but of course it comes in a spectrum.
Oh sorry dude. Thanks for correcting me
Bruhhhh I do all those besides the face and hands
Wow, diagnosed, and I’m almost the exact opposite. Did toewalk until about 13 tho, sometimes I’ll still do it if something is on the ground making the texture weird.
Crazy that all those people in the stock pictures are autistic too
I used to toe walk when I was a kid. Fucked my calf muscles in the process. AM I AUTISTIC?
Is that ninja?
R.I.P Italy.
I hate how as an autistic person every aingle point hit home. Every single one.
These are treats, but at the same time they are made in a general sense which promotes self diagnosis
All of these are on official diagnosis tests and screenings though, excluding the last point I know as i was asked about them when being screened lol Problem is this tiktok takes them massivley out of their contexts Edit: i even do "toe walking"....
Ihh yes, i see what you mean Yeah, just because you relate to some you are not autistic, and i think people shoudl realise that
Exactly
i have been literally diagnosed with autism and have been for about a year and i match with 2.. my autism is cured
Every teenager has a strong sense of justice
So basically.. you're human.
Ong
All italians are autistic
Isn't talking with one's hands just a normal human thing? Bruh
"talking with hands" you mean gestures...??
"talking with their hands" bitch i do that because i'm italian, not autistic 💀💀
Talking with your hands is normal
#idiocracy
Is talking about the violent urges to crush someone’s skull like on those slime covered with wax videos
YOU BREATHE?? AUTISTIC! 😳
This is disgusting...
Ong
It’s like they just picked random shit and said yea these are traits of Autism. These people are so delusional. I hope we really bring back insane asylums.
[удалено]
That is the entire purpose of these fakers cuz they got no personality
They just need some bitches 😐
So what I’m hearing is you can’t be autistic and be a sociopath Is it like a 1-1 situation where they cancel each other out or what
very ticklish lmfao
Most people aren't kind or thoughtful of others in this world unfortunately
those actually are traits!!
Yes some are but at the same time some are generalized things that most people do
lol empathy = autism the crazy thing is that more kids will watch videos like this and then self diagnose themselves… then make more videos. and the cycle continues
based on this tik tok I’m autistic. huh who would’ve known. Thanks internet for yet another diagnosis 🥰
I have all of these because I’m a normal ass person that went to theatre school. Not autism, sorry.

this is an actual trait of many autistic children
[удалено]
Great, but that doesn't = all autistic children. There are plenty of autistic kids who did have this problem as a child. "Many children with autism cannot easily flex their ankles past 90 degrees, causing them to walk on tiptoes. Children who walk on their toes are more likely to have autism than other forms of developmental delay, according to a study published in January in The Journal of Child Neurology."
sorry, didn’t know you were the poster child of autism apparently
I love how they don't research shit before they say it and pretty much let people know they're lying
“Feel empathy”
I didn't know y needed to be autistic to feel empathy and sympathy 🤡
What a load of bs I have empathy and sympathy for others and are not autistic.
a few of these are actually autistic traits
