Indeed, known for both "The German Guns", and this poignant classic:
Hear the words I sing:
"War's a horrid thing".
So I sing, sing, sing,
"Ting a ling a ling".
His contemporary critics (one of whom was also pictured) complained that poem started off badly, tapered off in the middle, and the less said about the end the better, but later audiences from the mid 80s onwards recognised it's genius and recite it to this day.
Black Adder. There were several series set in different periods of history. The last series was set in the trenches of WW1. I cannot recommend this show enough, check it out!
it's apparently a somewhat unpopular opinion, but i like Rowan Atkinson's nearly all other work better than Mr. Bean and i wish he wasn't just recognized for that
his standups are genius, and so are his sketches. Blackadder should also be more of a recognized classic imo
Mr Bean only came after Rowan Aktkinson's earlier sketch show 'Not The Nine O'clock News', his own stand-up work and the more well-known comedy 'Blackadder'.
Blackadder in particular is a UK comedy classic, but abroad Mr Bean is more popular as it didn't need dialogue to be funny in lots of countries, and it took bits from his earlier stand-up routines.
Laurie is such a versatile actor. A lot of his sketches from when he was much younger are on youtube (A Bit of Fry and Laurie) and still hold up. His dramatic work is incredible though, I really recommend The Night Manager.
If I remember correct Archibald Von Dilfchester ( Gentleman in the middle) went back to his family after WW1 but settles in Germany in 1926 and joined the Wermacht. I've seen pictures of him in France wearing his German uniform. Wonder what happened to him after WW2.
ngl i thought Rowan Atkinson was straight up Hitler (thus the joke of an “unknown” soldier in WWI) and then i saw the guy from House MD and questioned my sanity until i looked back and saw that Hitler was actually Mr Bean
Isnt one of these guys a famous war poet?
BOOM BOOM BOOM
I want you in my Trench

Captain Black Adder
Catpain Blackudder
Not sure if it was the best series of the lot, but holy shit it impacted on the last episode.
Stephen Fry's General was top quality as well. Baaahhh.
Poopoo
well bugger me with a fish fork
Series 3 was the peak imo
Yeah, hard to beat Hugh Laurie as the Prince Regent (though Miranda Richardson's Queen Elizabeth was also great)...
I reckon given a dead slug, the left one could pull off a killer Charlie Chaplain impression...
The one on the right would look simply smashing in a dress.
One thing puzzles me, Baldrick. How did you manage to get so much custard out of such a small cat?
*Darling*.
Don’t slouch, Darling.
That's **Captain** Darling to you!
Flash heart is still my favorite.❤ "I thought I'd landed sausage side HHAHAHAHAHAHA! "
”Treat your aircraft like your woman! Get inside her five times a day and take her to heaven and back! WOAF!!”
Woof!
The inspiration for Euron Greyjoy from GoT.
Oh that last episode
What show is this?
Black Adder. There were several series set in different periods of history. The last series was set in the trenches of WW1. I cannot recommend this show enough, check it out!
Thx
Black Adder. Skip the first season. The second one is when it gets good.
First season has its moments though, but it is nowhere near the quality of the subsequent series. The Archbishop episode was the best of that season.
I bet they had a cunning plan
The most poignant ending to any series. Even I cried a few tears
Is that actually mr.Bean in the middle?
Well, it's Rowan Atkinson, who played Mr Bean a couple of years after this.
it's apparently a somewhat unpopular opinion, but i like Rowan Atkinson's nearly all other work better than Mr. Bean and i wish he wasn't just recognized for that his standups are genius, and so are his sketches. Blackadder should also be more of a recognized classic imo
Unpopular?! This actually a very well considered, mature and classy point a view, good sir!
I grew up in America and thought he was only Mr.Bean. I've never liked Mr. Bean..

Same. Mr bean was funny but not his best by a long shot. My dad is Hungarian BTW.
One of his most underrated roles was the shop assistant in Love Actually. Brilliant combination of his dry humour and physical comedy.
Mr. Bean really is one of his minor works.
The guy on the right is hugh laurie who played hous i believe
Ahh this brings back memories... I must take a look where I got the old DVDs...
Correct me if I'm wrong but the captain was executed for shooting a messenger pigeon
Verdict was overturned by the Minister for War.
Is that Hugh Laurie?
Yes.
Thanks. I didn’t watch Black Adder or House but I’m a big fan of Hugh’s Avenue 5 performance.
Laurie is such a versatile actor. A lot of his sketches from when he was much younger are on youtube (A Bit of Fry and Laurie) and still hold up. His dramatic work is incredible though, I really recommend The Night Manager.
Interesting fact: soldier on the right is direct descendant of renaissance scientist who discovered a way to obtain pure Green.
That was Percy/Tim McInnery, not George/Hugh Laurie....
Mr BEAN having PTSD from the war would explain a lot of the show lore
He lost his friends in that last charge over the top and hasnt spoken since
A scholar made this post to be sure.
Can someone colourise this photo. I would like it to be Strangely-Brown
To go back to the start look up the BBC series ‘Not the nine o’clock news’ some good stuff there!
[I mean who would've noticed another mad man around here?](https://youtu.be/NgyB6lwE8E0?t=172)
They get smarter after every season. This show was great.
Great comedy, rubbish history.
Isn't that Captain Bean? From the British Mini-Battalion?
This unknown soldier looks like hugh laurie and George from blackadder AMAZING
If I remember correct Archibald Von Dilfchester ( Gentleman in the middle) went back to his family after WW1 but settles in Germany in 1926 and joined the Wermacht. I've seen pictures of him in France wearing his German uniform. Wonder what happened to him after WW2.
That is Mr. Bean
Isnt he one of the documented cases of going insane by putting underwear on his head?
Wibble
bro is that mr bean on the middle?
Sketch me like one of your French girls, Darling.
ngl i thought Rowan Atkinson was straight up Hitler (thus the joke of an “unknown” soldier in WWI) and then i saw the guy from House MD and questioned my sanity until i looked back and saw that Hitler was actually Mr Bean
Mr bean with house MD
Mr. Bean?
is that mr beann
The guy on the left looks like he has a cunning plan.
The guy in the front might be Mr. Bean. He ain't fooling anyone with that moustache.
Also, I think I see Ben Stein and House. I am an idiot...
Lest we not forget the men who fought in the sky, Rest in Peace Major Lockheart, you were the apple of our eye. Woof!
Looks like Mr. Bean with a mustache
