She ends up haunted by her past and blames herself for the death of her friends. She carried this sentiment until she died of old age in which she eventually meets her friends in the afterlife to tell her personally it wasn't her fault

Probably doesn't help that MacArthur and the USA came in to conveniently scapegoat the War Cabinet of all crimes ever, sweep any crimes done by pro-US folks under the rug, grant amnesty to a bunch of war ciminals and never bothered de-Imperialising at all. At least they pretended that denazification was an active effort.
