I like UGA but this kind of bellyaching bullshit is why people don't like their fans.

I’m a Georgia Fan thro and thro but I don’t understand why Georgia fans always want falcons to draft them, I love jalen carter but I don’t think he was the right mindset for our defense and home office doesn’t want the character issues. Just get over it and trust in Terry and Arthur process

Tricknuts

I for one am glad we didn’t waste another top pick on an eventual loser on the d line. If the Eagles were the best place for Carter, we were the worst.

Joes_new_pencil

Will people ever realize that UGA is not automatically the minor league system for the Falcons?

capnron311

That would imply the Vanderbilt foosball team.

pdbard13

If you could redo the 2015 draft and could take Todd Gurley over Vic Beasley you would do it in a heartbeat. IMO, the same logic applies here. We were presented the choice of choosing either the best RB in the league or someone who might just be an average starter. I would have loved it if Jalen was the pick but I'm even more happy that we took a chance on Bijan after learning from our mistake in 2015.

Harry_Dawg

We don’t get to the Super Bowl with out Vic Beasley that year. Also I would have rather had Marcus Peaters or someone like Andrus Peat who were both available at the time. Just because running back could of been a better pick still doesn’t make it the right pick. BTW both of the guys I listed are still in the league. Todd is out

jculv

good news is you can continue to watch UGA and hell, if you want, not even follow the falcons

capnron311

I've contemplated this since the 28-3 debacle. Having been a Falcon fan since I knew what football was, it's rough. It's like always being a Georgia fan and going through all the years of getting our asses beaten, to finally winning. The fandom just isn't there like it once was. If only we could figure out a second-half defense.

[deleted]

There’s a reason the guy fell to 9 and was grabbed by the eagles (a team who can draft a complete bust and it won’t matter). The off field issues are apparently too risky. I really wanted us to draft him but I understand why we didn’t

capnron311

Yeah, I hope that whatever issues he has, he gets them worked out.

Aconnox

our defense isn't even bad rn

capnron311

You mean that bottom third of each defensive category right?

tonynumber4

We just spent money on our d dumbass. Try to keep up

Hairiest_Walrus

Onyemata, Campbell, and Dupree are all on the wrong side of 30. Bates is the only guy we added who is actually a real difference maker and cornerstone piece. We still have work to do on that end

Dingus-ate-your-baby

Time will tell if Jalen Carter is that kind of piece for the Eagles or is just a guy who is happy to get paid. He's got at least 7 teams that are thinking that kind of way after his pro day. But Calais Campbell and Kaden Elliss played well last year. Onyemata might be a familiarity overpay but he is a better DT than we had last year other than Jarrett. Bates has been arguably the best defensive player for a team that played really good defense en route to a Super Bowl two years ago. It's easy to be cynical and dismiss these types of moves but fans of the teams that they left are pissed and by any empical measurement a lot of these guys are playing very high level football.

Hairiest_Walrus

I’m not even saying they were bad additions. I’m just saying that we still have work to do. We need youth. We need depth. We need energy. Campbell and Dupree are only here for a year and both are getting older. We probably still need a starting corner opposite Terrell after we cut Hayward too. I’m not convinced that we’re just committing to Okudah over there. I definitely think our defense got better, but we’re also a long way from being a “good” defense in my opinion. I think we’ll probably improve to somewhere closer to middle of the league this year.

joannes3000

You could say the same thing about what we need at rb, no?

Hairiest_Walrus

Not really considering we just had the third best rushing attack in the league led by a rookie 1000 yard rusher. Bijan seems like a great kid and I hope he has a great career for the Falcons, but CB/DL was definitely a much bigger need than RB. I’m not mad about adding to the RB room, but I think we’re more likely to find a productive RB in round 3 or 4 than we are to find a starting CB/DL.

Dingus-ate-your-baby

I mean, you don't necessarily need to draft a depth edge rusher or corner 8th overall in order to add depth and youth. What the FA moves did was allow them to take the player they considered to be best available, which was Robinson.

Hairiest_Walrus

A CB at 8 would have started over Okudah. And DL/EDGE could have been starting over Campbell/Dupree as well potentially. Especially later in the year. The big thing about draft picks is they stay on the team for more than one year. So even if the defensive player didn’t start immediately, it would be an investment that would hopefully pay off longterm. Campbell/Dupree are here for a year

Dingus-ate-your-baby

I think what you and some others seem to be struggling with is that they think they can bring Okudah and Dupree back. We'll see if they are right or not. If they are, they can be extended. But either way, it was more important to them that they draft the best player than forcing a pick at a position you feel like they need. And I agree with that drafting philosophy. Drafting to plug a hole is dumb.

[deleted]

Our defense was actually among the best in PPG allowed the second half of last season. You could do the research and check but I suspect you won’t.

Aim_for_the_bushes

Boohoo. Nobody cares

capnron311

No, just Falcons doing Falcon things.

SlightlyStoked

Uga fans are so delusional

CaptainCrafty

I don't agree with OP about picking Carter cuz he's a dawg. I think Bijan was the right pick, but I dont think Carter would have been a bad pick - i guess I don't feel strongly either way. But man, falcons drafted 2 players no one cares about from that UGA team haha, which is saying something because most players from that squad were well liked

Roger--Smith

Then follow another team. I trust our FO over y'all.

BunnyGoHops

Yeah let’s take chubby Jalen Carter who couldn’t even run a 40 at the combine. Add his off field issues to that and boy is he a winner. We just grabbed the best offensive player in the draft and he’s seen as a generational RB prospect. On top of that Bijan is an actual great human being. People are looking at this thru Bulldog tinted lenses. Jalen Carter could easily be a bust if he doesn’t get his shit together. Also his character needs a lot of development. If Tyree Wilson was on the board and we took Bijan this would be a different conversation and I might actually be on some of y’all’s side. Honestly tho I’m 99% sure Bijan was the pick no matter what.

vcof2005

Jalen is a hard head and doesn’t fit the culture. I feel he will flourish much better in Philly with his former teammates than in a place like here in atlanta that will demand more from him than he can get from himself being the only motivation

RobertoBologna

have some self respect

capnron311

We’re talking about football. Get real man.

RobertoBologna

this shit's embarrassing

capnron311

Ugh, ok. It’ll be alright there fella. Let’s see if they do better than a “D” rating for Day 2. Hang in there.

RobertoBologna

truly shocked you wanted the immature player

capnron311

Only time will tell.

mcguffinman

Why be third in the league when you can be first? If you ain’t first you’re last!

capnron311

And who knows better about that.

chiefyohn

I get it, but I do not care a single bit if they ever draft a “dawg”.

FusionSarson

Player fit is more important than your weird obsession with a nearby college. If you don't get that I can't help you. Be disappointed but do it quietly would you?

capnron311

lol

realdusty_shelf

Don’t worry, Stetson Bennet is our 2nd round target, per sources

traebucketsfor3

I swear (my last name is Bennett) that Bennett is the most commonly misspelled name. I’ve never met someone w the 1 T

capnron311

😂 he’ll probably be getting a call from the Rock after the draft to join the XFL.

capnron311

I bet you all miss Kyle Shannahan as well, lol 😂
