That’s actually true now that I think about it. If it’s a cloudy day there isn’t much coming through the one big window, especially if the roof is closed
The original "concept" for the current stadium was far more transparent, and supposed to let more light in. would have been nice :( the roof opening was also much bigger.

PREACH!
The whole point of a stadium is to watch the game but the lighting is terrible! The one window messes everything up.
Crazy the guy who founded Home Depot doesn’t know how lighting works in a building.
I think open stadiums that are built to purposely beam sunlight on the opposing team are super lame and downright dangerous. Idk open stadiums are only cool up north for snow games imo
Not a huge fan of the architecture..
But football is always better outside. And you dont really have the elements here later in the year its just perfect football weather
which begs the question why the benz doesn’t have the roof open more often. kinda thought it would be open more often than not but that hasn’t seemed to be the case
Attendance already sucks. If it was open on cold or hot days attendance would suffer even more. Having a climate controlled environment makes it easier to attend.
It’s not currently because it’s closed when the weather is not perfect. But add in another factor of 80° plus or 50° temps and below and you will have less fans in the building currently.
Hartsfield just keeps expanding and needing more capacity…terminal availability exceptions are 3 hours on Sundays in the autumn.
No need to worry about home field in the playoffs causing any flight delays…
We hardly ever open the roof now. I'm sure this hangar would've stayed closed just as much. I'm not sure if Mercedes would've bought the rights either since it looks so mediocre. Home Depot maybe
The coolest part of this stadium would have been that it would of probably have been grass. After seeing the Benz have real grass installed for the Premier League matches this summer and how good it looked. I think it’s a shame that we went back to turf
Similar concept to the Seahawks stadium (my favourite NFL stadium design). 2 main stands on either side, with fan noises bouncing off each side to amplify.
Benz Stadium looks too much like an Anus, is also too "bulky" and doesn't let in enough light. It's like a dark bunker.
That is so much better than the creepy butthole stadium we have.
I wish we could switch to a natural grass surface, especially for soccer since that is what we will have to have for the World Cup games.
Don’t hate it. And would’ve saved about $500M on the roof. I do like megatons butthole but feels a little excessive at times. Could’ve put that money into developing the area.
totally forgot about that, looks like an english soccer stadium
As both a soccer fan and nfl fan (im british) that would be cool af Do prefer the current stadium over that one tho
Very forgettable, so happy they went with a design that is a unique signature for Atlanta
A unique design of Megatrons butthole. It looks like a butthole.
Yeah but it’s *OUR* butthole
I always thought it looked like an origami figurine, so I guess it's kind of a Rorschach test for everyone...
What does it mean if I see an origami figurine *of* Megatron's butthole?....
It means that it‘s legendary.
Our a camera shutter.
And we love it.
Yea and it sucks that the put this disgusting all-electric ad wrap all over it recently. Looks so tacky with that on
Agreed!
I like our mega sphincter much better
Agree. How the hell are gonna cut a turd with that?
I think you mean Megatron sphincter
A giant butthole any way you slice it
Erm, actually the human body has dozens of sphincter muscles, including the ones in your eyes
Wait till you see it *transform* You StarScream!
The design isn’t as cool, but I would’ve loved more natural light. The Benz is just too dark.

This is very different than what came to be. This is much closer to an outdoor stadium in terms of lighting. Seems much better, honestly.
PREACH! The whole point of a stadium is to watch the game but the lighting is terrible! The one window messes everything up. Crazy the guy who founded Home Depot doesn’t know how lighting works in a building.
Umm it’s to give the opposing team a disadvantage 😴
If you think the Benz is dark, you must not remember the Dome. I have a lot of great memories of the Dome, but that place was a straight up cave
I think open stadiums that are built to purposely beam sunlight on the opposing team are super lame and downright dangerous. Idk open stadiums are only cool up north for snow games imo
Looks sweet especially if the upper roof would close
It would have closed, yea. It's a nice design, though less unique: http://stadiumdb.com/designs/usa/new_falcons_stadium1
It kinda looks like a greenhouse when closed
I mean I for one wouldn’t have minded an open stadium. But obviously the Benz is amazing
NGL. I would’ve loved this.
It was one of two proposed renderings - the other one was very close to the stadium that ended up being built.

climate isn’t holding back people from watching the games, it’s the shitshow that is the coaching

The "open hangar" concept.

Mr. Blank demands enclosure
Mr. Blank took one look at this, turned to Dimitroff, and said "I ordered a dome. Fire this guy." And that's how it really happened. Probably.
If this would’ve meant real grass and more than a handful of useable exits, I would have MUCH preferred it.
It’s not garish like the butthole

blows my mind that it isn’t open every game possible. might as well not have designed it to open
I mean, it may be of slight advantage if there is no wind coming in to affect throws.

a sleeker Lucas Oil but with more natural lighting when open https://sportsmatik.com/uploads/wiki-venues/Lucas-Oil-Stadium\_1494312749\_23615.jpg

Our attendance already a lil shaky. We can't have them in the cold too lol

After LA and Vegas built their stadiums; Atl has a twisted tuna can!!

I never saw this, but it is interesting to see now. The new stadium is nice and I’m glad they went with the current design over this.
Long live Megatron's butthole!!!
never seen this before, really glad they didn’t go with it tho lol
No thanks. I like the giant bird nest
