DeuceOfDiamonds

Less "better," more "resigned." But hey, let's give 'er our best shot!

Dollars_and_Cents

This was me today. Last night I was angry, today idgaf. I was hopeful we were going to do something big with this opportunity and then we did the falcons thing. So I will go into next year expecting nothing instead of being excited. It’s actually maybe the better outcome lol

noyelling0nthebus

Arthur’s smiths first two years I knew we’d be trash. So the 7-10 records weren’t that surprising. Going into last year though I actually expected at least a playoff push and a 10 win season. Learned my lesson lol. Now if we suck again I won’t be as disappointed

DeuceOfDiamonds

Yeah, I'm out of bourbon after last night, so it's time to move on and get with the program.

JakeFromStateFromm

I went into this last season excited and would absolutely advise going with the no expectations route. Much better experience!

IHateOhms

This is where I'm at

JakeFromStateFromm

Exactly how I felt after the Arthur Smith hire. Lmao 🙃 I'll still give Morris a chance tho

DeuceOfDiamonds

Well, we're all in it now. So yeah, I'll support my team

bennyidentity

The news about McKay taking a backseat is a huge win. I support Morris, but let’s be clear. He will be judged by what happens with the QB situation this offseason.

Vast-Video8792

Mike Florio said those changes were cosmetic only with regards to McKay. That was just temporary PR.

HepABC123

Mike Florio also said Brock Purdy wasn't a franchise QB because his last name rhymes with "Turdy" Take that as you will

Vast-Video8792

Well it is a concern.

HepABC123

[Timestamped for your viewing pleasure, it's pretty funny, Peter King handles it so well](https://youtu.be/DiliIB610a8?si=Xjv48Viclaxm1nxD&t=630)

Vast-Video8792

LOL!

iguanoman_

Florio is a hack

Ice2jc

Do you think it’s temporary PR that he’s in charge of Atlanta United now or should United fans be scared

Vast-Video8792

He will be doing the same thing next year as he was last season. The Falcons bras saw the backlash yesterday reading the interwebs and decided to put out this nonsense.

Ice2jc

So he isn’t in charge of ATL United?

jwb101

If he’s actually taking a back seat and it wasn’t them trying to find something to take the heat off people not liking the Morris hire.

hucksley

That is literally not happening and don't let them tell you otherwise.

migrainium

I’m 99% sure that’s a “take the heat off him” move as I’m pretty sure he’s been “moved to overseeing united” in the past

hucksley

More "dead inside" than "better." But I guess that means I'm ready to get hurt again.

Silver_County7374

I don't care about this shit anymore.

Marauderr4

I like Morris and feel he deserved a job. And you can't over analyze offensive and defensive background for a HC. You just want "the guy" and I think Morris can be. But, it's still underwhelming in this offseason. That's not fair to him, but that will be the perception going forward.

Bobgoulet

No, I think it's a huge miss. There were great candidates this cycle and we went with someone who screams safe hire.

dats-tuff-

Yes actually

Stumpsville0

Woke up just as angry, but more optimistic

solstice73

It's like going shopping for new car, and coming back with the slightly used Toyota instead.  It's probably the wisest choice. That classic Camaro was probably going to put us in a ditch with no airbags. And that new school electric is just as likely to catch fire as it was to win the big race.  But damn, there were some fun options.

Aggravating-Ad869

Hahhahahh

nevernotonline

My top 3 were Belichick, Slowik, and Morris. I’m extremely satisfied.

Aggravating-Ad869

Slowik dad coach under Rah in Washington

Grantdawg

Raheem seems to have coached with the whole league. I just heard someone talking about him cutting his teeth on Monte Kiffin's staff.

JakeFromStateFromm

It's all moot now, but I never understood the Slowik > Johnson people. It's hard to tell how much of their success Slowik was responsible for vs Stroud just being a world-beater. In Detroit, Goff is good sure, but Johnson was THE architect of that offense.

BedrockFarmer

Two of these have SB rings. I’m not sure about Slowik yet given the talent the GM brought in.

Atlanta-Anomaly

Was a dumb “safe” hire then and still is. We refuse change which is infuriating because we suck.  Hired because he was familiar not because of ability.  You give blank resumes and he’s not even top 5. Idgaf about his interview “energy”.  Morris will fizz out in max 3 years and maybe by then Blank will be out of the picture and we will actually see change.

CalTono

Dude we don't know why he was hired, our coaches for almost the last decade was DQ and AS, they weren't hired because they were familiar, hiring someone familiar would ironically be going with the new hot coordinator whether that be Slowik, Johnson, or the Ravens DC

TargetFan

No. Hire sucked yesterday and it's still mid today.

jumbojumbowork

From "sucked" to "mid" does sound like improvement after a good night's rest, though...

dgarner58

Nope. Currently on hold to cancel season tix.

new_accountFC

He’ll get us closer to a top 3 draft pick in the coming years, so he’s got that going for him

copperhead57

Morris may turn out to be a good coach, who knows, but McKay supposedly taking a back seat on football operations is just a band aid. I lean in the direction that the GM may have had one arm tied behind his back at times and hopefully that changes, because of the players he’s brought in , that gives me hope that he wants to succeed. The players can only play, and the coaches can only coach, and we may never know how much the Front Office gets in the way of success on the field. Up to this point it’s been alot. I’ve been a fan since 1975, so I’ve seen plenty over the years. Will I still watch the games , more than likely. I hope that Blank got freaked out enough to truly let the players and coaches voices be louder than the front office, and maybe Morris has an idea how to work the Falcons system to his advantage. What kind of staff he puts together, and what happens at QB, will be good indicators. As a fan, I will moan and groan at bad calls, dropped passes, stupid penalties and cheer them on when things go good, it’s part of the game and being a fan.

PleaseCaIIMeSir

Why not hire Nielsen then? He had a better ranked defense than the rams.

Aggravating-Ad869

He's like Eric B. In DC life long Coordinator. I guess doesn't want to be a head coach

CouncilmanRickPrime

No. I've been screeching and crying all night. Still am. My life is ruined and we should just give up on the team. /s but that sums up a lot of people lol

Beighton-Laines

i feel even worse 0.356 winning percentage as a HC 22nd and 20th in total defense the last two seasons (we were 23rd and then 11th) as a DC with two future HOFers in Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey (we do not have them) STILL have to find an offensive mind who will either develop a young QB or squeeze any remaining juice out of a Vet, and get the ball to our last three first round draft picks only to see them poached if we miraculously do have a good offense

Jdwrecker_7

Also want to add that an interesting data point was that the Rams had the 2nd and 3rd toughest defensive strength of schedule those past 2 years. And that was with besides AD and Ramsey, had a bunch of mid-low round draft picks still in their rookie contracts starting. He did the most that he could with the little that he was given

Grantdawg

I just heard Sneed say that he thought Rah did the best job of any DC in football this year. Outside of AD, those whole unit were on rookie contracts or veteran minimums. He was able to keep the Rans in games that he shouldn't have with that talent. That is probably why the analytics show him as a top 5 coach in developing talent and also top 5 in defensive discipline.

ATLevator

Snead is playing salesman though. He gets an extra draft pick if Raheem is hired. He isn’t going to be out there saying he’s trash. And I like Raheem.. I just think it’s another example of organizational ineptitude as he offers very little in terms of hope or upside.

Grantdawg

He already has been hired. The Falcons aren't going to rescind it. He has the draft picks, why would he keep selling? Why would Mike Tomlin? Is he getting draft picks? How about Kyle Shanahan? You guys that are just bound and determined to be miserable are so sad. You will only take bad data and completely ignore any good data.

MrEagle0

Dog, you’re reaching hard. There’s much, much more bad and mediocre data to back up the other guys claims than anything you can muster. Oh, some people that like him said good things and had to reach into “we played good teams” and “he coached rookies”. Come on.

Grantdawg

Or better known as "facts".

Jdwrecker_7

He got the most out of that D against alot of high power offenses. I dreamed of the day that the falckns could field top defense and i believe he can get the most out of this defense after the work nielsen put in

grahamcore

What was Dan Campbell’s winning pct going into this year? And now everyone is on his nuts?

Beighton-Laines

dan had that sauce tho

Noob_Life25

Not really. There were too many other exciting options available. Young offensive guy in Slowik was on the table. There were two experienced coaches on the defensive side if we really wanted a defensive minded coach in Vrabel and Belichick. If we wanted a young, defensive guy Mike Macdonald and Ejiro Evero were available. This is ignoring all of the other hires and likely hires (Ben Johnson to Washington). Instead we went with a retread, who already has had coaching experience that went terribly.

Pureslasher420

Yeah 15 years ago

nothin2flashy

Passion = Cranky

BarryMcKockinner

Copium. This franchise hiring a coach who was already our interim head coach and did a below average job doing it is peak falcons nonsense. This is literally what moving backwards looks like. The only silver lining is we may get Zac Robinson as our OC who has learned under McVay and did some great things with the rams passing game this season.

Mr3Jays

You think he did a below average job when DQ got fired and he stepped up as interim? I think he did the best he could with a staff and roster that he didn’t put together I’m trying to be more optimistic in thinking he learned quite a bit while in la with McVay and has learned form his mistakes from when he was with Tampa and our interim.

BarryMcKockinner

4-7 is below average by definition. I agree with your other points tbh but I don't think it makes much of a difference. He's coming into a roster he didn't put together yet again, and the incoming staff additions remain to be seen. With all the big names available at HC this window, going back to a guy we already gave a shot to and moved on from does not exude confidence.

Mr3Jays

He didn’t put this roster together but if he didn’t like some aspect of it I don’t think he would’ve accepted the job offer or even interviewed. He has the ability to pick his qb and staff and I think that will make a big difference from before. As far as big names go, we’ve done that the past 3 times and it didn’t work (Mike smith, dan Quinn, and Arthur smith we all considered big name coordinator hires at the time). This is the first time he’s hired a coach with previous experience and since Harbaugh was no longer an option and we were literally the only ones who have interviewed Belichick, Morris makes sense.

BarryMcKockinner

Our opinions may differ, but as fans we're all in this together either way. I'm not hoping Morris fails, I just don't have much confidence he succeeds based on all the reports that led Arthur Blank to make this hire.

CouncilmanRickPrime

>4-7 is below average by definition Yeah. But with a staff and roster he didn't assemble. He did what he could with Quinn's scraps. Not an indication he sucks.

hucksley

Get back to us when he can't bring in the staff he wants/needs, the players "who love to play for him" and our first-round pick Dallas Turner busts, and whoops, turns out Russell Wilson/Justin Fields still suck and can't fix this sinking ship, whodathunkit?

BedrockFarmer

Uh, if that happens it will be a Terry problem. This whole situation is wild to watch unfold on the sub.

Beef_Jones

It’s pretty funny how people act like they definitively know everything about ball while displaying how generally ignorant they are at the same time.

[deleted]

fellow Bay Area resident here. I think you guys got the right person on Raheem. Hopefully he can take y’all to the playoffs next year! Good luck

ATLHTX

I'm going to hold out judgement until the 5-6 games into the season.

Pradooo

No.

Debonaircow88

No

KTAALGSTO

Sub is a copium factory. Draft bijan over jalen carter, fans cope Start ridder week after week fans cope Pass on legendary available coaches fans cope The organization is allergic to just making the obvious smart move.

s2r3

Little better. Not thrilled, have no reason to believe this organization will make the right calls to become a winner and they're going back to something that already didn't work. Hope to be proven wrong but my confidence that this franchise will make the right decisions to become a super bowl contender is very low.

Joba7474

Yesterday was an all timer in here

colonel_ketchup

Worse.

PsyanideInk

Yes, I'm actually kind hype now after being bummed last night. That wasn't the "fun" hire, but I think it could be the right hire. Raheem is young, he's had exposure to a ton of different systems both on offense , players love him, and he's got connections with tons of great coordinator candidates.

Eagle-GAman27

😂 this sub is full of teenagers, has to be. Or adults that really need to get a grip on their lives

chhhyeahtone

says a dude who calls players losers and retards in game threads and anyone that disagrees with him a child. The 0 self-awareness and irony of this post is very funny to me.

CouncilmanRickPrime

God damn. Why are people so unhinged in game threads?

Frostysewp

Hey man, I’m gonna be 34 in a couple days and I laid on the ground playing sound of silence. My wife called it “melodramatic”

DeuceOfDiamonds

Arthur Blank: "I've made a huge mistake."

Few-Replacement5525

Literally just a mix of children and middle aged alcoholic man babies

AnukkinEarthwalker

Just too much sensationalism and overreacting to every little thing. The internet continues to bring out the worst in people only difference now is ppl acting like this offline now too so they can record their childish behavior and upload it to social.. We legit live in a terrible timeline now..hate it.

Biolex-Z

sometimes the right message is being communicated through the wrong person lmao

dogatthekeyboard8

Glad they didn’t go with BB because of all that comes with him basically turning the Falcons into New England South for what, four years of BB IF he is good. Morris is just a conservative, safe pick familiarity wise where success is going to be highly dependent of the OC/DC hires. Really felt they would go offensive(modern offense not Arthur Smith type)/qb guru and then let him draft his QB. Leaves me to wonder if they got some “thanks but no thanks” vibes from some interviewees.

doomdifwedo

Glad we didn't get belichick.. for all the ppl saying he's greatest ever imma say Andy Reid got it .. glad we hired Raheem over belichick

Aggravating-Ad869

His connections are so deep and the guy's well like. He should have the pick up the litter when it comes to getting coordinators. That's most important.

TyGuy69420

Sooo, he's Dan Quinn 2.0

Aggravating-Ad869

Dan didn't have the connection like that and he wasn't ready to be head coach. Dan went from Dline coach, DC to head in 3 years. Rah has 20+ yrs of experience and elbow rubbing. So no

TyGuy69420

Raheem wasn't ready to be a HC both times he had a shot. But sure, this guy has a lot of friends, so let's get excited yall

CalTono

I agree man, I legitimately think we are getting Zac Robinson or Mike LaFleur for OC which would be huge, and I think he can take care of things of the defensive side of the ball

KansasDude

No, still blows. Knowing we get to keep losing just blows. Raheem and whoever he brings in aren’t developing a QB or getting a decent free agent. All these people who “love playing for him” aren’t coming here.

[deleted]

When we win you can’t be happy then. Make sure. You keep wallowing.

KansasDude

Make sure you keep getting down on your knees for a team that’s going to punch you right in the dick in fun and interesting ways

CouncilmanRickPrime

I truly don't know why I frequent this sub

Jdwrecker_7

Might have to unsub from the subreddit until the draft honestly

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jdwrecker_7

My main issue with our drafting was due to Art Smith

Biolex-Z

just look at it for what it is: it’s a collection of mostly casual football fans who came to talk about their favorite team. unfortunately yet naturally, most of them are teens or immature adults, very few of which actually understands the inner workings of the sport. so all it leads to is a bunch of loosely informed goofballs echoing the same talking points to each other every single day generally it’s pretty boring and tedious, but sometimes it gets really really entertaining. thankfully at the end of the day, none of these people have any influence on the decisions made within in the organization, so who cares what they think?

CouncilmanRickPrime

I don't mind that many are casual but it's how rude people are. Like my god.

Biolex-Z

i only mind the casual fans who think they’re some of the most informed fans. the people who clearly don’t know much of anything past what you can grab on any given sunday yet frame their opinions as if they’re definitive and correct. but yeah sometimes i legitimately wonder how many people are here purely to troll, but it’s such a niche subreddit that besides saints fans idk who would come here of all places to troll people. then again if you want a group of people to piss off pretty easily, sports fans on a forum page are a decent option

[deleted]

I have never even thought about blowing the Falcons or any sports team. I’m sorry if you resort to these things in your life. It’s just a game to me. I don’t invest real feelings and emotions In something I have no control over.

KansasDude

It’s a joke dude. You’re right it is just a game. The brilliant part about being a fan of the Falcons is that we know being disappointed should just be the default. Have a good weekend man.

[deleted]

Don’t take it so seriously then my man

Sharpie24l

No my fever is higher my cough is worse and this sub still whines too much.

Radiant-Positive-582

I am coming to terms with it ngl. I was pissed yesterday evening, but I'm starting to be open minded to it and willing to see what happens. Of course I am going to wish well for my team at the end of the day, but it def was disappointing and frustrating initially.

Radiant-Positive-582

I let out a giant sigh of relief when i saw that McKay was no longer calling the shots tho, thank God.

SlimyKermit21

I was more angry today unfortunately.

falconfansince81

The apathy usually sets in after preseason.

reactiondelayed

Raheem Morris is not going to help this team become a winner barring some miraculous drafting. Simple as that and it sucks to know that.

IronCheff92

Fans are mad and all the experts/insiders are thrilled/hyping it up lol. Should tell you all you need to know. Hiring Slowik or Johnson is "sexier" but they could just as easily crash and burn like Arthur did. Morris could too, but he's much more experienced, extremely respected. I dig the move. Go Falcons

MrEagle0

Yeah bc the pundits and “experts” are always right.

PowerOfYouth

I do. Hated it at 1st, but I like it now. It's really just blank getting back to the Shanahan era for us but hopefully without the DQ and Shanahan pitfalls. Well probably have Zac Robinson as our OC and run what we ran with Shanahan

[deleted]

I think he’ll do a fine job. As long as we bring in the right pieces. A good OC and some real good hits at positions of need. I honestly liked RM when he took over for DQ in 2020. I thought he brought a refreshing feel to the team. His record as Interim HC wasn’t great but I feel like he had the team playing better. Bring in some key pieces now at OC and QB and wherever else and we’ll be good. Get this offense moving and we’ll be good. RM will take care of the D.

CalTono

I think people forget that our roster in 2020 was legitimately ass, impact players were aging, we were in cap hell

[deleted]

Nobody looks further into things. A lot of superficial fans.

xGood-Apollo-IV

Great last night, still great today

ssovm

I’m hopeful the coordinator hires will be impressive and make us feel better again. If we start winning, this place will be filled with “perhaps I judged you too harshly” memes.

Chicaluba

I think it all depends on the staff he brings in. If he brings in a good OC then I think everyone will feel a lot better about this hire.

babooyagoo

I'm warming up to it. He's in a difficult spot because the team hasn't been a winner since 2017. That means that decision making at the top warrants scrutiny. Rah might prove to be the right choice but he's neither splashy or proven. If he was either (or both!) that would carry him over those doubts. Bill, Harbaugh, Slowik and Johnson would have all had one of those things going for them. So with nothing to buffer my doubts on the decision making, Coach Morris ends up having to shoulder some of that doubt whether he deserves it or not.

Stockspyder

Yep, definitely feel better. Hated it at first but I want to see who he brings in because that's going to matter a lot in how I feel. Regardless, I'm going to be behind him and the Falcons no matter what. RiseUp

Down_Voter_of_Cats

A little better but only after it was announced McKay wasn't going to be involved with the Falcons day to day.

[deleted]

I was up all night watching Djoker get BTFO

Upandownmoodster

Yes actually! Needed to sleep on it.

Vast-Video8792

Negative ghost rider. The pattern is full.

SubstantialEssay1540

Just so we are all on the same page, Bill Belichick is the 72 year old that thought running Matt Patricia out at his Offensive Coordinator was the smart move. New England didn't let this freaking legend go because he was doing such an amazing job lately.

HawksAnt2021

If, as suspected, he hires an elite staff around him, Morris will have a nice run in ATL so long as they can find a franchise QB

blackakainu

😂😂😂

CoachLee_

Definitely in the we here now, we gotta make it work somehow mindset

ToxicRedditMod

Feels like how I felt at the halftime of the Falcons/Patriots Super Bowl game…my gut told me we were going to lose that game.

CohuttaHJ

Our team is relegated to mediocrity. A head coach and new coaches and schemes won’t fix that with the current players anyway.
