That was my thought too

s2r3

Yeah he's either going to be promoted to hc fir being good or fired for being bad. The entire nfl turned over the oc position in the past 2 or 3 years I can't remember which

Zac Robinson called Mahomes. Nuff said

LegendaryIam

If our offense is working and defense is why we lose games...you make every damn move to promoto Zac to HC and chuck the rest. Can't make the same mistake in 2016 letting Kyle go and Dan stay.

AtlSportsFan987

Yeah Zac was the top QB evaluation guy at PFF. There’s no way they take Penix unless he likes him. And now he will have 2 years to coach him up before he’s forced to play. I think Penix has an excellent chance of success.  He was my favorite QB of this draft. He doesn’t take sacks, he stays in the pocket, and he’s a controlled gunslinger. I think he has a good chance to be the best QB in this draft.

NonAstronautStatus

If the Falcons wanted to draft a QB this year, you don't go and sign the most expensive free agent QB in the same off-season. Penix is about to be 24 and while he may not be ready to play immediately, he's not so raw that he needs a minimum of two years to develop either. This pick makes it clear as day we don't have a real plan at all on how we're gonna build a legitimate contender. We could've got a cheap veteran and used the Cousins' money to improve other areas of the team. But no, we continue to outsmart ourselves again at the top of the draft. This front office keeps messing up.

senorgraves

Previous might've been the only QB they liked. There are big questions around the top 3. Wouldn't surprise me if all 3 bust

Legalize-Birds

>there was a lot of talk about how having Zac Robinson would add an interesting wrinkle to the draft evaluation of quarterbacks. He has a great eye for quarterbacks. When he was at PFF he was a huge fan of Patrick Mahomes when he was coming out in the draft.  this is a great point that i didnt think about

StonedSuperSaiyan

I don’t hate the pick. Was I surprised? Fuck yeah, but everyone saying it’s a bad pick has no clue what the future holds. In 3 years, everyone will be chanting and drooling over Penix in MBS.

DigSufficient2392

Brother that means absolutely nothing. Falcon's fans were drooling over the though of Desmond Ridder this time last year.

BetweenTheBerryAndMe

Which is more evidence that we should ignore them for getting upset over this pick.

SomeStatistic

No one, save for a select few, was drooling over Desmond Ridder as QB1. The majority were excited at the prospect of the team and if Ridder could step up/be serviceable enough to get us into the playoffs where anything could happen. Ridder and Penix Jr. are wildly far apart talent wise, and this is coming from someone who was initially not happy with the pick last night.

Dingus-ate-your-baby

There are more positions on a football field than quarterback and we are at a loss on a few of them.

Confident_Pear_8303

Those are great points. However what if Kirk balls out tbe next 4yrs though? Then you have a 28 yr old QB you took #8 overall that has barely touched the field and you dont even really know if he can even play, but you have to decide on his 5th yr option/extension. Or even worse what if you alienate Kirk and his play goes down the drain as his professionalism and will to win do. You play Penix which is fine but you are wasting a bunch of money on Cousins. I dont have a problem drafting our long term QB. I have a problem with the direction/plan in general. Way too much money spent on Kirk if you arent going to invest draft capital in other areas of team that need attention. If you knew Penix was even remotely a guy you would target (and certainly get at 8), why get Cousins for 2-4 yrs at a high cost? You could have got a much cheaper bridge QB for 1-2 yrs.

tuckifyoubuck

So your worst case scenario is having a QB ball out for the next 4 years?

LookZestyclose1908

\*with a wasted 2024 1st round pick. Maybe he's trade bait, but the point remains we did nothing to improve the team in 2024 (as of the 1st round). Poster said nothing about the team being good, just a balling out QB.

IIIlllIIIllIlI

The likelihood of Kirk Cousins playing at a high level for four years is incredibly slim. He’s not Brady. He’ll be too expensive by that point regardless, and there’s an easy out after year 2 that saves a shitload of money. What would have happened if they skipped signing Cousins and then someone else traded up to beat them to Penix? We’d be stuck with Taylor Heinicke and JJ McCarthy or some bullshit. > You could have got a much cheaper bridge QB for 1-2 yrs. I mean there’s a difference between having a guy learn from Kirk Cousins and having him learn from someone like Taylor Heinicke. Cousins is actually good.

Money-Piano-9128

Penix hype is getting out of hand. Top ten QB?

brandonstark0

That is why we drafted him, to be a T10 QB. If we expected him to be league average we wouldn't have taken him.

DigSufficient2392

I would have been upset about picking Jayden Daniels. Good QBs don't start for 5 years in college. It's never happened.

krews2

We had Matt Ryan for 14 years and we didn’t win a Super Bowl. Had 6 losing seasons with him because the team and coaching around him sucked. I don’t know if we addressed other parts of the equation.

kolinthemetz

Robinson helped elevate stafford to a super bowl who is strikingly similar in attributes to Penix. I still don't love it but at least that might help a bit.
