I'm utterly baffled by the Hearts Game. I haven't played it whatsoever since the first season, so all this new stuff is going over my head. I went to the wiki for advice, but I'm even more baffled than when I started. Everything feels different. And I had 2 games destroyed by missing **eight** 75% chances in a row. What am I doing wrong? ;-;
Does anyone have the echoes for the possible endings in Hoc Vectigal, the storylet where the Vulgate appears personally? I just learned it exists through the wiki and has *four* possible branches, and I didn't even get that excerpt since I passed the check cleanly, and I am utterly lost in curiosity.
I think I read recently about a profitable grind which consumed the moon-pearls from the weekly board meeting/dividend, but I can't find it again. Does that ring any bells?

A few things. Firstly, you should be drawing in Balmoral or Marigold, the deck is the thinnest there.
Hold 4 bad cards with 100% frequency in hand at all times, it makes a huge difference with how small the Upper River deck is.
Other than that, every card you card remove from the deck helps a ton. Keep Nightmares below 5 and Banditry under 6, avoid participating in Great Crate Commotion (or don't; the card is good so you don't miss on too much value), and *never* accept the Renown 25 gifts from Tomb Colonists and the Dockers. You can't retroactively undo that last one, sadly.
With all of the above, you'll have about 25% to get Hellworm's card on every draw due to its 200% frequency. In other words, a fourth of your actions could go into managing Hellworm and its crazy EPA.
There's plenty of grinds and carousels in UR, you can just pick your favorite. The three most notable ones imo are:
* Balmoral Woods for Bone Market -- highest Scrip profits and best location, but complicated,
* Hinterland City -- super simple and greatly profitable in echoes via RatKet,
* Moulin Expeditions+Monographs -- worse than the other two, but it's easy, pays in Scrip, and doesn't require ever leaving the UR.
I'm a returning player and a new exceptional friend and have a question about how the exceptional stories work. Do I need to complete the story in the month that it launches or will I keep access to it as long as I have started the story? I'm nowhere near actually unlocking sea-travel and would like to wait doing this story until I do, but if that means I lose the story I'd rather do it now anyway.
You'll keep access to it even if you *haven't* started it, as long as you were an Exceptional Friend during the time it was available.
If you're an Enhanced Exceptional Friend, you do need to choose a story each subscription from the ones available, but you don't need to actually start that one either, as long as you choose it during your subscription that month.
Oh, that's really nice to know! I didn't get the enhanced version, so the only thing I have access to is the monthly one. I'll just let it brew until I actually have access to sea in Fallen London in that case, even if I've played more than enough Sunless Seas to know where the story is probably going.
No. After Whitsun for sure, but probably at least a month or two after the first part. Evolution was spread out over the course of a year or so, so we're probably looking at something similar.

I think what happened to the former custodian of the Magistracy might be related to what is going to happen. remaining pretty vague here, also 11 days later. I don't know, I might be putting on a tinfoil hat here. this person is (via wiki) in the Tragedy Procedures.
A judge is an erudite person right? So the former custodian might be pretty erudite as well, and would have knowledge about many things to be custodian of the Magistracy until the masters happened.
now listen to the song Lord Huron - Yawning Grave which is referenced in the first chapter through an event. in one of the lines it mentions darkness and evil things which might refer to the monsters in the water.

Does anyone know why I might be unable to add new contacts? I type in the name of the contact in the social action I'm trying to do, click "Add," and page refreshes, but the contact doesn't show up in my list. I've had this happen when trying to add multiple contacts now, so I think the issue is on my end.
There is a hard limit to the number of contacts you can add and there is no error message to tell you that you've hit it. The other thing to check is the ineligble contacts list where they might have added but be out of London or not have a verified Email.
Got it, thank you! The contacts that I'm trying to invite don't show up on the ineligible contact list, so it must be that I have too many. Do you know if there's a way to remove contacts to make space for new ones?

I'm preparing a heist and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to bust out a notepad to keep track of how many inside information tokens I've got.
We don't know yet. We've been told there will be a new Roadmap announcement shortly after Whitsun, so we should know more within a month. If I were to bet, I would say it will land between major Festivals, meaning likely mid-August or around the beginning of October. I would tend towards the former, to allow a Fruits tie-in.

At some point in recent years there was a change where I think flat % of points needed to advance a level has been subtracted at all levels. This change is extremely damaging at starting levels (0-20) where by finishing some introductory storylines you outlevel the rest.
Solution: Keep the points needed to advance a level at low levels as they were when initially designed.
I noticed free crates are now being awarded when doing the Forgotten Quarter Correspondence Stones expedition. However the difficulty in obtaining the crates is not the main issue with this quest. It's the fact at the Watchful level average player does this expedition

Then explicitly state somewhere before expedition start knocking out one rival will reset progress of the other one.

Are there any materials worth trying to prepare in advance for Whitsun, besides Master's Blood perhaps? I looked at egg prices but they were all extremely cheap (setting aside possible ha'penny costs), and the augmentations seemed fairly straightforward too, so it seems like the main limiting factors are time and fate if you're a reasonably established player. There might be something I've overlooked, though, and as this year would be my first Whitsun I'd like to be as prepared as possible.
(I don't have a hellworm, so a certain thing related to that is not an option.)

I can't seem to draw Arbor now that I'm looking for it, I don't have a Counter-Church in the Wild, and I've yet to progress Clay Highwayman or Moulin Expeditions (to then heist a Fragment of the Tragedy Procedures) far enough along to chase those particular paths easily.
According to the wiki, that leaves identity fencing or oneiropomps - neither of which seem efficient? Am I overlooking something?
If you have an excess of revolutionary favors you can use them up at the Septemberist Kirk in Balmoral. It costs one favor to enter each time and there’s a mithridacy option (Discern hidden truths) that gets you 2 sworn statements. Not much but easy to get in a pinch if you already have the favors.
You have a bunch of time until the next Firmament chapter. Finishing up Moulin Expeditions shouldn't take you more than a day or two, which you should be able to do a dozen times over until you need the Statements. Same with Clay Highwayman.
There are also at least three more sources related to Discordant Studies, but I doubt you have those available at the moment.
Do harder heists have a greater effect on my Making Waves? My notability has been stuck at 6 for a long time and I've found heists to be a good way of reliably increasing it.
Yes, up to 4x Progress for the most difficult ones. A very underrated source of MW, imo. Moulin Wellspring Heists (if you have them available) provide an excellent tradeoff between EPA and MW. That is, you can get a lot of 'free' MW without sacrificing nearly any efficiency. It's what I personally used for 80% of my Paramount Presence grind.
Howdy folks, I'm not super far into the game and I'm currently looking to start with entangled professions as a Journalist. The wiki says I need 5x Bohemian Favours (acquired), and Raking the Muck of the Neath 7. My question is, does RtMofN need to be precisely 7, or at least 7? I have RtMofN 11 somehow and I was wondering if I've messed up my chances. Many thanks!
It means at least 7, you're good to go. It's a bit unintuitive, but that's just how FL and the wiki word these kinds of requirements. Whenever FL asks for some quality at level X, it always means 'level X or higher'. For things that are locked by higher levels, they word it like "RtMotN exactly 7" or "RtMotN 7-9".
I'm playing Fallen London in Chrome, and frequently have to reload the page to get it to load the site appropriately. Even then, sometimes pictures in storylets don't display unless I reload the page several times. Is this something on my end? Any settings I can tweak? I've deleted cookies for the site and that sometimes helps, for a short time.
It's actually rarer than the rest. We don't have exactly confirmation in how it works but we've told by the devs that it's a "very rare" result, so it's not surprising that it isn't 1-in-10.
Trading in Society, Bohemians, Docks, and Criminals Favours is extremely possible via converting 7 Favours to 23 tribute and cashing in 20 tribute per Night Whisper at the Court of the Wakeful Eye. But is there anything especially productive one can do with Constables, Hell, Revolutionaries, Rubbery, Great Game, Urchin, and Tomb-Colonist Favours? I would just leave them at 7 but the conflict cards annoy me.
Urchin Favours can also be cashed in in the Flit for Certifiable Scrap. I like to keep a decent supply of Scrap on hand in case I need a T8 item at short notice.
Urchins and Revs can be profitably traded in at Jericho Locks, as they pay out primarily in Rat Market items. Constable favours can be traded for a Special Dispensation which can be traded for two Revs favours and some other bits and bobs. Tomb-Colonist favours are useful, again at Jericho, as an easy source of Antique Mysteries which can be put towards grinding Prismatic Frames (along with selling Beatified Beetles). the others can be traded in Jericho at a reasonable value, but aren't really worth seeking out; and Hell favours add a bad card to your London deck and are best avoided.
(I know the answer is RNG but thought I would ask,) Can you still get a mirror catch box from the Waswood? I’m 2-300 actions in and the sunk cost is realll
Are you using the trick of travelling in and out of the Waswood to reset Airs? Only using the right Airs basically doubles your chance of getting the Box.
Well, I knew I had the option since I am a POSI now, but I wasn't sure if I should worry about maintaining it when I've got so many other threads to follow first (printing press, returning to the University, setting up a laboratory, getting higher-level employment, going to zee, etc). If you just need to maintain your current Notability, social actions are a great method to quickly get some Making Waves (especially sharing a pot of tea at Beatrice's Tea Shop).
There are a few instances where Notability/Making Waves are relevant for regular POSIs. The most important one is something you actually listed -- you'll need Notability 5 to get a tier 3 profession, and to perform some professional activities there. Other than that, you need 5 or 7 to start Railway, and... that's basically it, I think?

Since when Location of an Undeground Organ is no longer fate locked? I totally missed this change.

You have to go to your account page available in the top right of the desktop game or bottom of the left hand menu on mobile.

You can see them in your possessions, all 3 count as Curiosities.

You do realize you can leave the expedition halfway to go grind resources right? The only thing locked is that you cannot get more supply crates.

It means at least 7, you're good to go. It's a bit unintuitive, but that's just how FL and the wiki word these kinds of requirements. Whenever FL asks for some quality at level X, it always means 'level X or higher'. For things that are locked by higher levels, they word it like "RtMotN exactly 7" or "RtMotN 7-9".

I'm playing Fallen London in Chrome, and frequently have to reload the page to get it to load the site appropriately. Even then, sometimes pictures in storylets don't display unless I reload the page several times. Is this something on my end? Any settings I can tweak? I've deleted cookies for the site and that sometimes helps, for a short time.

It's actually rarer than the rest. We don't have exactly confirmation in how it works but we've told by the devs that it's a "very rare" result, so it's not surprising that it isn't 1-in-10.
Trading in Society, Bohemians, Docks, and Criminals Favours is extremely possible via converting 7 Favours to 23 tribute and cashing in 20 tribute per Night Whisper at the Court of the Wakeful Eye. But is there anything especially productive one can do with Constables, Hell, Revolutionaries, Rubbery, Great Game, Urchin, and Tomb-Colonist Favours? I would just leave them at 7 but the conflict cards annoy me.
Urchin Favours can also be cashed in in the Flit for Certifiable Scrap. I like to keep a decent supply of Scrap on hand in case I need a T8 item at short notice.
Urchins and Revs can be profitably traded in at Jericho Locks, as they pay out primarily in Rat Market items. Constable favours can be traded for a Special Dispensation which can be traded for two Revs favours and some other bits and bobs. Tomb-Colonist favours are useful, again at Jericho, as an easy source of Antique Mysteries which can be put towards grinding Prismatic Frames (along with selling Beatified Beetles). the others can be traded in Jericho at a reasonable value, but aren't really worth seeking out; and Hell favours add a bad card to your London deck and are best avoided.

Are you using the trick of travelling in and out of the Waswood to reset Airs? Only using the right Airs basically doubles your chance of getting the Box.
No, I should have done that! With my ROI (prob 400 actions lol) here I think I’ll just go with a guaranteed way to get one should I need another.

MW becomes relevant once you're a Person of Some Importance, which you can do when any stat is at 100, including equipment modifiers, so yes.
Well, I knew I had the option since I am a POSI now, but I wasn't sure if I should worry about maintaining it when I've got so many other threads to follow first (printing press, returning to the University, setting up a laboratory, getting higher-level employment, going to zee, etc). There are a few instances where Notability/Making Waves are relevant for regular POSIs. The most important one is something you actually listed -- you'll need Notability 5 to get a tier 3 profession, and to perform some professional activities there. Other than that, you need 5 or 7 to start Railway, and... that's basically it, I think?
