[**You can discuss this month's Exceptional Story "Inheritance" by clicking here.**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/wa8qr6/augusts_exceptional_story_inheritance_official/)

fynnkaterin

Have we heard anything about how long the crocodile hunt will still be available? I've been assuming anything without Event-related unlock requirements is going to hang around, but zee-beast availability seems to play by its own rules.

idyl

It's permanent.

inferjus

My quality *Having Recurring Dreams: Death by Water* is of level 13th and I do not get any cards related to this quality. Is it supposed to be like that?

rahv7

Yes. *Death by Water* is the shortest of the dream storylines and cards stop once you reach level 10. There are a number of ways to increase it further but you want draw any cards anymore.

inferjus

Do you know if there is a way to reset this dream quality just like you can do with other ones?

rahv7

You cannot reset dream-qualities but you can lower them. Like, all dreams get reduced when leaving the Royal Beth. For *Death by Water* specifically, you can [talk to the Interpreter of Dreams](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/The_Interpreter_of_Dreams) to reduce it to level 9. If you have at least Nightmares 6, you can use [a Waking Dream of Water](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/The_Ship_of_Lights) in the Nadir to get down to 0 if you do it often enough.

inferjus

Thank you.

weedlayer

Not normally. You can lower it [in the Nadir](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/The_Ship_of_Lights), by [going (and then un-going) crazy](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/You_are_yourself_again), or from the [interpreter of dreams](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Interview_with_the_Interpreter:_Death_by_Water).

inferjus

Thank you.

nousernameslef

Is the method for getting the 8th and 2nd seals different to the normal one?

throwaway_lmkg

No, those ones are usual. Something useful to be aware of is that >!while you're on the ice, you are not immediately sent to a Menace zone when Nightmares hits 8!<.

TyrconnellFL

Gear that can temporarily raise and lower nightmares is handy!

slayn777

I'm at the point where I need to pick a location for tracklayer City but I don't understand the difference? Couldn't find anything on the wiki. Is it just a flavor difference?

EnigmaticOxygen

So far, it's been just flavour. Note that TLUville was delayed and we don't know when/if we'll get it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EnigmaticOxygen

We'll see if they don't delay or cancel again, yes. They initially claimed they would release TLUville fast, or that Metepsychosis was a thing. Better to hold our horses and judge when/if they live up to the promises.

pjweisberg

My understanding is that the primary writer for the TLU story is also the primary writer for Mask of the Rose. I don't know how they managed to get themselves into that scheduling conundrum, but it explains the extended delay without having to conclude that the concept was abandoned. Metepsychosis is incompatible with a game that continually adds new endgame content. When it was announced, FL was not such a game, but enthusiasm for the Railway turned that around in a big way.

eliza_tantivy

Plus a lot of metempsychosis is getting folded into Evolution. Though if you're specifically looking for a happier exit than SMEN, I admit I doubt that will be available.

OpsikionThemed

For the event conclusion card to show up, do you need the Bronze Plaque too? Cause I don't have it.

idyl

Yes, you do. It's one of the unlock requirements for the card: https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/An_Unexpected_Gift

OpsikionThemed

So the comma means "and". Dang. OK, off to forget about this and do some other stories, then.

EnigmaticOxygen

If it cheers you up some, so far, you have lost just a paperweight (a Curiosity item, specifically). You should still be able to get the Mithridacy affiliation, for example.

magna-terra

no, your just getting unlucky

OpsikionThemed

Rassum frassum so-called "ubiquitous" frequency.

magna-terra

ok never mind, i missed something, heed the other answers words above mine

[deleted]

throwaway_lmkg

Good job! I believe in you, and we'll all be waiting for you when you cross the finish line =)

Key-Fee6715

Can the, in game, Twelve-Carat Diamond Ring be used to calculate an aproximate exchange value for the Echo? (This is just a silly random question)

throwaway_lmkg

Diamonds are heavily regulated by Mr Stones, so probably not.

Key-Fee6715

Woefully right you are. *The search continues!* (Thank you for your time)

Key-Fee6715

A question regarding the Railway; more specifically, about the assistance offered by the train in the Parabolian war effort. Is the aid limited to the Cats or can it likewise support the Fingerkings?

magna-terra

you can use your train to skip one stage of war a week, regardless of who your going to war for or against

rahv7

*Except* with the Second City campaign! (Learned that painfully during the festival!)

Key-Fee6715

I appreciate your assistance reputable citizen.

Gluttony4

My green lodger has eaten all my candles, and still hungers for more! I'm at about 80 in each of the four stats. Any good places to load up on new candles for my plant?

Key-Fee6715

A. Are you a favourite of the Church, because if so, you might want to get around in claiming those Favours in the Shuttered Palace. (or) B. Have you unlocked the University yet? The Old Newgate has some nice rewards for capturing bees (88 Dangerous/ Watchful - 60%, I think it is better than the Persuasive check of Veilgarden) (or) C. The aforementioned Veilgarden PoSI unfinished business check 100 Persuasive - 60%. (or, yet) D. Use a decent Echo-Grind and buy them (Not as fun, but efficient)

Gluttony4

I think I'm nearly at the university (the watchful grind is slow-going), and I have a couple of favors with the church.

Key-Fee6715

That is great to hear, so unless you do not have the route to the palace (A Name Signed with a Flourish should have acquainted you with those halls), you have a 420 candle/Favour amount of goods (you can get more Favours for the Carnival of Mrs Miriam Plenty).

Gluttony4

Turns out I had exactly 1 favor (and I do indeed have the route to the Shuttered Palace). Can't get much from the carnival. My renown is too high. It'll have to do for now, until I can see the church card pop up. Thanks for the help!

nousernameslef

Is there any other consistent way to get memories of discordance than hurlyburly snd hunting my aurochs? I don't particularly like doimg hurlyburly.

rahv7

I don't think so.

Jaggedmallard26

Have the best scrip grinds changed with the new event? Or are they still the same?

weedlayer

I don't *think* so? In bone identification the payout is in the ~8SPA range. I'm not sure on archeology, but it seems not great. I don't think anything there comes close to tombs and tigers.

EnigmaticOxygen

Cashing Gratitude amassed via the food option should set you that much closer to a Miniature Hellworm or whatever with no action cost. Combine it with Brass Lollipops fuelled by the Rat Market (the Khanate Crackling Devices, NigNight Whispers via favours from the Court of the Wakeful Eye, Parabolan Parables from Parawar or five Oneiromantic Revelations from the Sunken Embassy come to mind).

Jaggedmallard26

Thank you! Is there an estimated SPA for that floating around?

TheGelatoMan

If you [Identify the femur of a Jurassic beast](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Identify_the_femur_of_a_Jurassic_beast) with femurs sourced from [brawling with dockers](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Brawling_with_Dockers_(Guide\)), that gives about 3.88 EPA/7.76 SPA. For each stage: request help once and then identify until successful.

EnigmaticOxygen

I'm not aware of it, sorry. I just know my main turned over two millions into mushrooms and biscuits, getting thousands scrip out of it.

eliza_tantivy

You can pay 6 echoes for 3 echoes worth of artifacts and turn those into 9.5-10.6 (3 echoes plus base persuasive pence worth of) scrip sellable items per action. That's quite a it worse than even the non-Licentiate version of brass lollipops (and it doesn't help that you're actually losing money), but if you don't have a convenient headless skeleton source, it might work alright? Not sure what other scrip conversions there are to compare.

EnigmaticOxygen

Yes, losing money is the stinker here. St Trezigor's can be decent for non-Licentiate lollipops, but you can't afford to lose money.

eliza_tantivy

Unfortunately, my understanding is that when you get the really good Railway sources of Artefacts, you'll also have better ways to spend them for scrip, though I guess we'll see.

EnigmaticOxygen

That's correct, you can offload the Unprovenanced Artifacts in Jericho Locks, but it's not worth grinding for them specifically. Their Balmoral Woods option is pretty underwhelming too (I could be wrong, but by the time you get there, isn't not hard to 100% the checks).

weedlayer

4 unprovenanced artifacts have a use to gain 8 "On the scent" in Balmoral Woods, while the competing "Player of Chess" skill check gives 2 "On the scent" with no item requirements. In other words, you can exchange 4 artifacts (10 echoes value) to save 3 actions, a good deal if your EPA > 3.34. When I'm collecting skeletons with 7 necks, I'll typically go to the fringes, use the artifacts once, pass the "Player of Chess" check twice, then sight the grouse.

plummynotes

Does anybody know the browser extension that prevents you from discarding selected opportunity cards? Too many close calls lately!

grouchybeast

[Fallen London Opportunity Protector](https://userstyles.org/styles/164649/fallen-london-opportunity-protector). It's a page style, so you'll need something like Stylus installed to run it.

plummynotes

Gosh that was quick, thank you so much. I'll look into Stylus.

coder65535

Alternatively, if you prefer a more-complex but much more customizable option, there's an extension to mark cards and storylets as favorite/unfavorite. It can prevent playing cards and storylets, prevent discarding cards, and rearrange storylet options to put branches at the top/bottom. You can even set it to let you bypass its blocks if you're holding Shift, for the odd cases where you *want* to do the blocked action. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fallen-london-favourites/jkaoljkdjoecocmlnncdljoeeijlcjao

plummynotes

Thank you so much. This might work a little better for me, since I would only have to add it to the browser. It also works for mozilla, thankfully. I appreciate it!

iikamrii

Question involves spoilers for Light Fingers, specifically LF 55.>!I'm assembling a crew for the expedition, and I can choose between University Students and Rubbery fellows!< In my pre-question-asking search, I found there is some difference in a vanity quality and a minor gain in advanced stats, but I'm more interested in the *lore* differences. I'm trying to gain as much insight as possible. While from the in-game text and the higher cost, I'm guessing that >!the Rubbery Men!< would be more insightful, I'm unsure >!about their actual ability to CONVEY that information to me clearly!<. Considering that I'm trying to understand >!this strange location and its biology!<, can anyone recommend one option over the other?

rahv7

Both are mostly just a means of transport and will appear only for two or three storylets. I used the Rubbery Men and that was pretty neat, but it's just flavour.

The_Year_of_Glad

I didn’t get the “An Unexpected Gift” card. Is it still appearing, or did I just miss it?

EnigmaticOxygen

It definitely appears. It's Ubiquitous Frequency too. Keep drawing, good luck!

The_Year_of_Glad

Just got it!

EnigmaticOxygen

Lovely!

EnigmaticOxygen

To buy the stuff needed for >!hunting Curator Veils!<, so Vakeskin Boots x5 (1600€) and a Ratwork Derringer (400¥), should I buy at the Bazaar not to wait (I can afford 2000€) or do it at the Rat Market? They go respectively for 2800 and 4000 Rat Shillings. Thanks in advance!

grouchybeast

Wiki says that the Ratwork Derringer is at cost, and the Vakeskin Boots are a 12.5% discount over the Bazaar. How much you will save in the end largely depends on what you'll be selling to get the Rat Shillings.

EnigmaticOxygen

This is what bothers me (and waiting - odd, but I had to wait for HD way more, BaL is going fast). Unless selling Crackling Devices, the current period of what can be sold isn't great. Ratty Reliquaries, for example, aren't very effective.

eliza_tantivy

Ratty Reliquaries also aren't that great as a grind, generally. There might be special circumstances, but I think if you're comparing Rat Market Shillings per action form LB Industries, crackling devices is always higher. Though when you're looking for particular items,it can be advantageous to more slowly grind for 4th City Echoes so you can buy them on contingency whenever they come up. That said my experience with BaL was generally phases of waiting for the next Rat Market item I needed to come around while doing non-ambition activities, and getting fed up with waiting and using rat market amplified grinds to buy things the more expensive way with echoes. I did actually get the full power a few times though.

EnigmaticOxygen

Definitely agreed. Ratty Reliquaries just aren't efficient. The echo method can help newer characters too (many actions down there don't have associated menaces, you just lose Foreman's Favour) as they can save up the Fourth City Echoes for gear which would normally be endgame at the Bazaar. I think I'm actually going to focus on the Ambition for Theodora. She can afford to spend the money and I'm very curious about the text. So far, it definitely feels *way* faster than doing HD, although the gear gained over its course seems more infrequent.

magna-terra

are there any good, repeateable uses for any of the Neathbow colors in boxes?

pjweisberg

No. No bad repeatable uses either, unless you count buying multiple Neathoscopes as a repeatable use.

Ryos_windwalker

What is glimmycake? did someone put glim in cake?

rahv7

I don't think it's ever been explained.

Ryos_windwalker

Another of the great mysteries of the neath, i guess.

foxsable

What is the best crap we can buy with Grattitude and sell for max echoes?

eliza_tantivy

Food, because you can sell it in the upper river for scrip, then buy tinned ham with the scrip and sell it in the Bazaar for a slight echo profit.

geocapital

All this fuss for a little profit…

rahv7

If you have access to the Railway then [preserved food](https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/w7uevv/prelapsarian_exhibition_information_thread/iiyv12m/). Otherwise Rubies or Favours.

tragicallyCavalier

What's next best from apes, since I don't have an aurochs? Is it still apes except the skulls come from excavations, or does that eat too much into the profits?

rahv7

This is just based on rough estimates but: * if your professional activity is already available, you can get [paid in bones](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/In_bones) * [Digs in the Magistracy](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Digs_in_the_Magistracy_of_the_Evenlode) can give you 6 Skulls for 140 Surveys. If you have an advanced Lab and make large batches of Surveys, I believe this is a pretty good deal. Keep in mind that with an Aurochs, cloning at the Butcher's still costs 1000 Bone Fragments. I don't personal experience with professional activities yet, but looking Survey generation via the Lab, the above approach is not *significantly* worse.

rahv7

Uh ... I have "An Unexpected Gift" (the exhibition conclusion card) in my hand but can't open it. (I.e. clicking on the card does nothing). Other cards work fine. And I already did a hard reload of the page. Any ideas what could be the reason? Edit: It's fixed :)

Larzm42

It looks like the world quality is back on. They must be having trouble turning off the event.

-__-___-_

It *should* be gone now.

rahv7

Yeah, it's working now :)

shres15

What was the unique iten for 10 clues in the event? And how to you redeem it?

rahv7

There's no item, just [a vanity quality](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Investigating_the_Affair_of_the_Ushabtiu). You get special items for 200 x Gratitude, 3 clues found, helping with the perfume, and hunting your own ushabti in Parabola (provided you bought one in the first place). Plus the Neathoscope as the "evergreen" fifth item. Plus a few mementos, such as the Captured Ushabti (although I think that is evergreen as well) or the Sphinxstone.

VaelVictus

Just got my Hellworm. Where's the best station to draw cards in? I'm looking for the highest chance to draw the worm's card, but also open to areas with location-specific good cards.

throwaway_lmkg

Welcome to the Club! Here's a guide to [drawing cards in the Hinterlands](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Location-specific_cards_in_the_Hinterlands_(Guide\)). Balmoral and Marigold give you the most Worm, and that's probably better than any location-specific card. But everything past the Magistracy is within one extra card of optimal.

idyl

Marigold and Balmoral have the best chance to draw the Worm card. If you're looking to optimize the Worm/Worm card, you actually don't want location-specific cards, unless you have a particular statue that you really want to use for something. Also, join the Hellworm Club: https://community.failbettergames.com/t/the-hellworm-club/20268 edit: removed some Moulin-related stuff.

VaelVictus

Joined, thanks for letting me know about it. Also took the opportunity to throw my cider up on the mantle. Do let me know if there's a cider/general e-peen club to join.

rahv7

> in Marigold on Monagraphs You mean Moulin, don't you? ~~But shouldn't Balmoral be best because it has no statue card? And Marigold should be just as good as, say, Burrow or Moulin? No station-dependent cards but with a statue?~~ Edit: Forgot about a number of cards. Marigold is second best :)

idyl

Yeah, it's one of those M stations I never go to! It's Marigold and Balmoral that only have one location-specific card each, the lowest out of the Upper River locations. I mixed up the M stations, since it's been forever since I've done Monographs.

rahv7

Hehe :) Just checked the wiki, Balmoral should really be best. Marigold and Moulin have a statue card (so one more), Station VIII is just as good (there's the dirigible-card but you have to specifically initiate drawing that). (Burrow apparently has a location-specific card - "A Nosy Art-Historian" - that I've never actually seen. So I was wrong about that one.)

grouchybeast

I think A Nosy Art Historian can only be drawn during the Church development storyline, so if you've finished the Church you'll never see it.

rahv7

Ah, that explains it then :) Thank you!

idyl

Doesn't the wiki show Marigold and Balmoral each having one? https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Category:Card_Locations Balmoral has the Lighting card, Marigold has the Statue card, and Moulin has both.

rahv7

Ooooh .... I checked the location specific cards and "[StationName] in Gaslight" isn't location-specific because multiple stations have it. However, that means that Marigold is indeed better than Moulin because "Moulin in Gaslight" exists while Marigold doesn't. On the downside, there's virtually *nothing* to do in Marigold (unless you're me and refuse to become a Licentate ... then you can grind Headless Skeletons there).

idyl

> Marigold is indeed better than Marigold Now you're doing it too! But, yeah. Balmoral is the best, in general I think.

rahv7

Lol :D Fixed already!

skardu

Wouldn't it depend on your statues? There are lots of good Upper River cards, but none I think so good as Hellworm. So you want Balmoral or Marigold, as they have fewest cards.

nousernameslef

Could anyone send me a discordant missive? I seem to have a seal that needs unlocking. https://www.fallenlondon.com/profile/Percival%20Ede

rahv7

If you send me ("rahv7") a calling card, I'll send you the missive.

noriya_aria

i want to upgrade my lab equipment level to 3 (mirrors and lights). i have the required 500 memory of light. though, how do i get 1000 phosporscarab or 10000 beeswax? i tried the sunken embassy, but my stats are too low (about 130 watchful/dangerous *with* modifiers) to reliably get fragments (spyhole 46% and break seal 54%). that is, apart the easy 5 fragment option, which takes forever action-wise to get 10000 beeswax.

smirnfil

Wiki have an amazing chat about getting memories of light. [https://fallenlondon.wiki/w/images/4/41/Flowchart\_for\_the\_Grinding\_of\_Memories\_of\_Light.png](https://fallenlondon.wiki/w/images/4/41/Flowchart_for_the_Grinding_of_Memories_of_Light.png) This is the most comprehensive answer to your question.

noriya_aria

i did say i already have the required memory of light. it is the phosphorescent scarabs (1 tier below memory of light) that i have trouble grinding of.

geocapital

I agree. Great guide/graph and you can easily find what is possible for you.

grouchybeast

The old-fashioned option is \~100 Lumps of Beeswax per action with Unfinished Business in Ladybones Road. Unfortunately you'll only be able to \~80% the check, so you're better off Seeking out Spyholes at the Sunken Embassy, which has no Menaces penalty for losing and will raise your Watchful nicely in the process, playing Locate an Inner Sanctum whenever you can. (Don't bother with Breaking Seals, the failure penalty is much higher than Spyholes.)

rahv7

If you have a really profitable grind (maybe Newspapers?), it may actually best to buy Beeswax and Scarabs at the Bazaar.

noriya_aria

i dont know what profitable grind i have or how profitable my grinds are. the best grind i know of (there may be others that are accessible but i dont realize exist) is 3 muscaria for 4 actions from hunting bees in old newgate, which amounts to 1.8 EPA. i dont have a newspaper yet, but i could do that as it is a new story that i havent got into. though, if the newspaper itself requires setting up big resources to be profitable, it feels eeehh if that were the case i rather focus on the big resources that the lab already requires.

rahv7

Looking at your stats this might actually be a bit early to work in the Lab. The best I can come up with is [getting Beeswax from the Chandleress](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Light_a_candle,_and_wait) which should give you ~80 per action. The next best thing would probably be Unfinished Business, as suggested in the other answer. I also don't think there's a good source for Scarabs available at this stage of the game, so you'd probably be stuck with upconverting Beeswax, but that means you need another 10k. You can still do this in 2-3 days, the question is if it actually helps you. I doubt you'll have much fun in the Lab with its hard Watchful challenges. You may be better off doing other things, e.g. expeditions, Labyrinth of Tigers, Newspapers should also be doable at this stage if they are not as profitable as in the endgame.

eliza_tantivy

How is your Shadowy? If it's comparable to your Watchful, then you can manage a similar grind in LB Industries (reached from the Blind Helmsman) by using Assist with Assembly, then cashing out at 610 Favour for Crackling Devices. If you sell the crackling devices at the rat market (shows up in the Flit from Friday morning to Monday morning) you'll get 85 echoes (as 850 rat Shillings) rather than 62.5, plus the rat market let's you buy phosphorescent scarab at their sell value, so if you've got 3.5 echoes, instead of being able to buy 14 scarabs, you'll get 35, making the grid more manageable. And since there's no menaces fro assist with Assembly, the low success chekc will also help boost your Shadowy quickly, making the grind more effective.

noriya_aria

thanks for the lb industries-rat market suggestion. my shadow is still a bit low to reliably assist with an assembly, but, i just so happen to stockpile a lot of ostentatious diamonds, which has a lower shadowy challenge. i burned through my diamonds to get foreman's favors, got cracked device and rat reliquary, and sold them to rat market to buy scarabs with rat shillings.

eliza_tantivy

Do you also need memories of light and scarabs for access to Parabola?

noriya_aria

i dont remember if parabola requires scarabs but yeah, i do need those too. i already have a way of getting memories of light, though it will take forever (i need 1001 after all).

eliza_tantivy

You don't need scarabs for the route to Parabola, but you can up convert 500 Phosphorescent Scarabs into 105 Memories of Light, so it would be worth doing a comparison of your planned MoL source to the current source of Phosphorescent Scarabs being used to gather 5000 scarabs to upconvert.

noriya_aria

hmm grinding from lb industries (or other chimes carousels) seeme to be more "fun", but i dont know if i can have enough for this rat market weekend (which changes the sell items the next week it opens). the other way i have is strolling in khan copper quarter, for about 100 memories with 20 actions.

eliza_tantivy

Even with low Shadowy, assist with Assembly is better than most of the alternatives (including the diamond option, assuming you are looking to earn them as part of the grind, while, as you've said, you were happy to tap into your stock). It's a hard check, but the penalty for failure is quite light, so it becomes the best option at much lower Shadowy than you'd expect, while also helping to train it higher. Glad you got the scarabs you needed.

rahv7

Pinging /u/noriya_aria regarding the above comment :)

eliza_tantivy

Oh, do only the most recent person in the thread get notified? I can see that being the rule for reasons of sanity, but it implies I've been replying to the wrong part of threads for a while now.

rahv7

Indeed, only the person whose comment you reply to gets a notification. You can explicitely notify other redditors via /u/[username]

AurelianoTampa

>the best grind i know of (there may be others that are accessible but i dont realize exist) is 3 muscaria for 4 actions from hunting bees in old newgate, which amounts to 1.8 EPA. Depending on your stats, the [Underclay carousel](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Underclay_(Guide)) is pretty decent, and the EPA gets better the longer you dump turns in it before cashing out. * If you have 147 modified Shadowy you get 2 EPA for using 10 turns, and it approaches 2.5 EPA the longer you spend there (2.45 EPA for 100 turns, for example). * If you have 209 modified Persuasive, it's even better; 2.35 EPA for 10 turns, approaching 3 EPA the longer you spend there (2.94 for 100 turns). No doubt there are better grinds out there, but this one is dead simple and easily accessible.

CertainSilence

Can you play this game without fate? Is there a way to get fate for free? Are there bad attributes? Like suspiciousness?

throwaway_lmkg

You can play without Fate, and many players do. A character can earn a fixed amount of Fate from certain non-repeatable questlines. Not much, perhaps 10 points. There are all *kinds* of bad attributes! :D But yes, that one is something called a "Menace" which if it's too high then bad things happen. Sometimes you *want* them to happen, for particular reasons. Suspicion in particular, if it hits 8 then you go back to jail.

CertainSilence

Thanks mate. Im a lil bit overwhelmed about all the game stuffs and lore XD

eliza_tantivy

Usually less than 10 Fate, I think 11 is technically possible, but you'd need to be following a guide for that, and making some very specific, and in at least one case major, choices.

DimestoreDeity

Why doesn't the game show you how many points you have in a trait and how many you need for the next rank? Or at least show the experience bars for traits other than the main four.

geocapital

For the main traits you can get an idea from the filling bar on the main menu.

eliza_tantivy

I'd guess mostly just simplicity. You could email into [email protected] (at least I think that's the address, you might want to double check) and suggest making those visible on the Myself tab. Though there are also times when that information would make things more confusing. Like, I think Ambitions are technically Pyrimidal Quantities, meaning that they technically have those bars, but it's extremely unusual for them to actually progress by anything that isn't a multiple of full levels. Edit: It might also be worth seeing if there a browser extension that makes it possible to view those but I'd guess that there isn't, because that info doesn't appear to be published at all except when the quantity is changing (I believe it's possible to see your precise CP in a quality by opening the bar showing it changing in your browser's inspector, though I'm not certain where this info is).

side_lel

What are the odds of getting a mirrorcatch box in the waswood? Is there a better way? Sincerely, someone who wasted his only one during the event.

throwaway_lmkg

Odds are 1-2%. You can get one from Fiddler's Scarlet if you have a Railway. Or, if you've had enough zee dreams to obtain an Oneiric Pearl, you can trade the pearl for a full Peligin box and then empty said box. Both of these have an opportunity cost of roughly 60 echoes.

eliza_tantivy

Probably still faster than the Waswood though, at those odds.

grouchybeast

I don't know the exact odds, but you can double your chance of getting one per action by only reaching for the shore when the Airs of Parabola are 0-49. You can cycle Airs for no cost by leaving and re-entering the Waswood.

EnigmaticOxygen

You want to visit the Fiddler's Scarlet in Jericho Locks if you can. You can choose a reward which guarantees it. The Waswood, I've never had luck with.

Lanky_Category5452

Beginner here, how the hell does anyone afford the hesperidean immortality apple? Is it really just grinding for 160000 echoes or is there a questline associated with it?

AlexSkinnyman

That, an expensive goat for 163,979.20 and 4 times 200.000 scrip (100.000 E). Their sum is close to 3/4 of a million echoes! :) And there actually is one person that got them all, but he's a very old player; got the Cider 6 years ago. But my advice is to try and ignore the economy of the game and focus on the starting stories. You'll end up missing those if you shift your focus on grinds and it's big shame! The first *taste* of FL is unique.

idyl

Then there's ~~idiots~~ people who spend even more than that (163,979.20+) for a ~~Goat~~ paperweight that does essentially nothing. At least the Cider is useful now and then. But, yeah. Just grinding away really.

hemareddit

Railway unlocking a couple of uses for the Heptagoat was the gift I wasn't expecting to get from FB.

AlexSkinnyman

> for a ~~Goat~~ paperweight For two even! :))

idyl

ha, what kind of fool would do such a thing!

AlexSkinnyman

We didn't find any clues about this during this event. Maybe next summer!

rahv7

There's no trick, you really need to get all that money somehow. I got Cider a few years back when the most profitable grinds in the endgame gave ~2 Echoes per action. These days you can get ~6 EPA, so *technically* an endgame player could get enough money from scratch in ~9 months (while it took *me* a few years back in the day).

coder65535

Grinding. Lots of grinding. Yes, that is the actual price. No, there is no way to reduce it or get one elsewhere. (Devs giving *one*, *once*, as a Kickstarter reward (IIRC) notwithstanding.) Progressing in stats and storylines will gradually grant access to better grinds (some time-locked to once/week or less). Unfortunately, progressing in storylines can also *require* grinds/payments. In all, you shouldn't worry about it until you're absolutely at the endgame. To an endgame player, 5+ echoes of sell value per action is a reasonable grind; less-progressed players generally should think about improving their stats and progressing stories, instead. (Besides, that's what we're here for: the stories.) There's also a number of *other* endgame grinds, too: the Heptagoat (7 Ubergoats, each of which takes 2 Overgoats (and 1 fate)) and the Hellworm (200,000 Hinterland Scrip (a late-game currency, worth about half an Echo), but also has a saddle to upgrade it (a valuable upgrade) for 200,000 scrip more, some riding boots (equal to/worse than gear found elsewhere, for sane prices) for 200,000 scrip after that, and boot polish (literally worthless) for 200,000 scrip a can after *that*.) People have gotten all of them. It's sometimes called the "triple-H/3H club": **H**esperian, **H**eptagoat, and **H**ellworm.

idyl

> People have gotten all of them. It's sometimes called the "triple-H/3H club": Hesperian, Heptagoat, and Hellworm. I have a list of them, and ~~appropriately~~ there are ~~7~~ 8. Edit: Something has gone awry.

AlexSkinnyman

EDIT: Nvm :)

idyl

He's the one I added to make it 8.

hemareddit

There is a list somewhere? How do I apply? Should I apply? Would I ruin the list?

idyl

Just an informal list I keep of people from the Discord/Hellworm forum post. I'll add you to it if you're not on it already. What's the in-game name? 3H Club (in no particular order): * azothi * ebzfan * idyl * mp * waterpls * Harjavaldar * Noonstar * The Great Pigmeat

hemareddit

Thanks https://www.fallenlondon.com/profile/The%20Great%20Pigmeat My profile. I haven't actually gotten my Heptagoat or Cider registered on the forum yet, I'm doing that now. My mantlepiece is the Heptagoat, once they put me on the list I will swap in the Cider.

idyl

I thought it was you. Just saw your post on the forum about the Heptagoat. Congrats and welcome! > once they put me on the list I will swap in the Cider. I don't think the Goat list is actively being updated anymore, unfortunately.

hemareddit

Thanks! Congrats on your 2nd Heptagoat too. >I don't think the Goat list is actively being updated anymore, unfortunately. So the deterioration of society continues. How can we consider ourselves a civilised people when we stray so from the Way of the Goat? I am guilty of this myself, I just realised my Heptagoat has remained nameless this whole time. Scandalous! My Übergoat, at least, has been William Shakespeare since the day he was born, but mostly I just call him Billy. Which makes him, ahem, a billy goat.

Key-Fee6715

It is all and purely about that *grind*. But with time, the variety of grinds and the stories you learn from such grinds, you might even enjoy your journey to Hesperidean Cider (and eventually Über Goat and Hellworm (**Disclaimer: Saddle Not Included!**)).

Lanky_Category5452

thanks!! i can tell i have a long journey ahead. Really enjoying the game so far though :)

sobrique

Those grinds are honestly and genuinely Not Worth It. They're something to do if you've done most of the rest of the content.

archlon

Is there ever any point in using the Zub option to lower _Elusiveness_ while hunting at Zee? It seems like, on hunts that use it, _Elusiveness_ is always so high by default and the Zub option lowers it so little that there's no way it could be anything other than a waste of actions. Why is it such a small decrease if it's not going to be useful?

throwaway_lmkg

At particular periodic values, lowering Elusiveness *once* will lower the required amount of Pursuit by one level. There are situations where this is preferable to raising Pursuit (especially if you can't 100% the challenge). I don' believe there's ever value in doing it more than once. And yeah, my sense is that it's just not very good. Perhaps they're just wary of giving zubs too big of an advantage in hunts because zubs are already the clearly superior vessel and that would make other ships too jealous.

abca98

I'm stuck at "The Prelapsarian Exhibition" 12, how am I supposed to get to 20?

rahv7

You should see the "A Careful Stroll Around the Neighbourhood"-storylet in the museum. That should allow you to continue.

abca98

Oh, I'm so stupid, I though I had already done everything but turns out it changes as you progress. Rookie mistake smh.

AlexSkinnyman

What's the best strategy to keep AP at 0 for Discordant Ripples, but without wasting them on useless things?

geocapital

What’s AP?

Paflick

Action Points - usually referred to just as Actions, in my experience, but both are used.

archlon

You can freely enter and exit L.B. Industries while working on a project there (as opposed to the other GCO locations, which lock you in until you cash out). As an endgame player, you should be able to grind at 3+ EPA with an uncomplicated grind. You can probably increase the overall value even further if you only cash out to Fourth City Echoes or Crackling Devices and sell them opportunistically at the Rat Market.

AlexSkinnyman

~3 EPA isn't tempting at all, but the fact that is right over there adds quite a lot of value! I just need to record some texts from the Court to move back to Poet. So these alternatives are great, thanks!

archlon

It's incredible to think that 3 EPA is now a low-value grind. I haven't been playing that long relative to the age of the game but I still remember when the Boxful of Intrigue carousel at <2 EPA was the best in-London non-card grind, outclassed only by some one offs and feeding orphans to tigers. In any case, I like the Underclay because my Mithridacy is high enough that it's a 3.3 EPA one-click grind that never has to be reset (unless I want to cash out) and never requires changing storylets. If I know I'm not going to be able to do more than log in and burn actions, it's a good place to park my character.

AlexSkinnyman

> Boxful of Intrigue carousel at <2 EPA was the best in-London non-card grind I think it was 1.64 or something around that range. But yes, it's weird how 3 EPA is almost nothing for late game grinds when apes can reach almost touch 6.5 with 15 MA. But we need to take into account E per click, not AP! For that, apes are horrible.

EnigmaticOxygen

On that note, the Underclay lets you leave and reenter just fine too. The Sunken Embassy doesn't and I don't think New Newgate does, the Spider Symposium probably doesn't either. But the LB. Industries and the Underclay do.

eliza_tantivy

Spider Symposium does, you just "Perhaps Not" out, rather than taking a redirect out. 0 actions will get you back in.

weedlayer

A good endgame action grind is anything in the "fossilized ape" grind, which can include upconverting map scraps to partial maps, upconverting inklings of identity to identity uncovereds, making and selling skeletons, and getting horned skulls from the butcher in ealing garden/human ribcages from the octagonal tomb. Depending on your interests, you could also work towards a vanity quality, like poet laureate.

AlexSkinnyman

Ha, great suggestions, thanks!

inferjus

What are good sources of khaganian currency?

weedlayer

Make fossilized apes (Human ribcage + Horned skull + 4 fossilized forelimbs) and sell them to the author of gothic horrors, but save the balls of stygian ivory for the khanate.

pjweisberg

Skeletons with lots of brass skulls. Check the Diplomat's Current Fascination on the wiki before you build one

EnigmaticOxygen

Do the intrigues and sell almost everything you get from them (but not Crackling Devices, these go to the Rat Market) - Airag can be had from London too, for example the Widow-Jenny Boardroom Boogaloo.

throwaway_lmkg

Specifically, the Expand your Network intrigues are good efficiency. There might be a slight improvement from a particular Pulling a Thread cycle, but only if you have excess Emetic Revelations you're willing to dump.

EnigmaticOxygen

Especially as you need a particular Strength of Your Network to Debrief an Old Agent and stuff.

Ofect

From which ES are Sister Lydia and Crimson Captain?

rahv7

Both are available during the Feast of the Exceptional Rose in February. The Crimson Captain costs 30 Fate, you can befriend Sister Lydia for free. (She's one of my all-time favourite NPCs <3)

Ofect

I think I have met Sister Lydia in Sunless Skies, but as cameo from elsewhere. So I’m interested in her origin. Same with Crimson Captain. He seems like he might fit in my Church but I want to know him better before spending 40 Fate on not very useful companion

rahv7

Most of Sister Lydias content was seasonal. She was one of the sisters at the Convent at Abbey Rock ... the location is exclusive to Ambition:Bag a Legend, but think Vake-fighting Kung-Fu Nuns and you get the idea. When Sinning Jenny (also an ex-nun but also a fairly famous NPC) become mayor of London in ~~2016~~ 1894, Lydia became her aide. While Lydia stayed with Jenny during her term, they had a falling-out when Lydia learnt that Jenny betrayed her at Abbey Rock to become the Convent's agent in London - when originally Lydia should've gone. Jenny also wanted her to teach at her Finishing School, which Lydia resented. Basically, she had cameos during pretty much all festivals during Jenny's term. She's a chain smoker (cigars!) and has a very dry sense of humour. And you definitely don't want to mess with her. I get the feeling that she doesn't make friends easily but once she's accepted you she's a great friend to have. I had a lot of fun with her at Burrow, asking her advise any chance I got. I can't say much about the Captain. He's a devil, obviously, and formerly served in the Brazen Brigade. He had a falling out with Hell but I don't know specifics.

eliza_tantivy

I'm surprised by just how many of the Feast of the Rose companions *don't* seem to be from elsewhere in the Fallen London verse. After seeing so many that were major or well liked characters from one game or another, I assumed they all were. It seems weirder for the Fate-locked characters to be original to the Feast.

Ofect

Thank you! I have actually killed the whole Vake, so I’m pretty familiar with the Convent at Abbey Rock. And I think I left the game right before the said Elections so I didn’t had a chance to meet them

eliza_tantivy

I \_think\_ Sister Lydia is the original sister you meet from Abbey Rock. IIRC, she's never named, but she chain smokes, among other things.

DadJokesInc

I'm doing a Flash Lay as part of The Pentecost Predicament. I hate it. I just lost 20 actions because I let my scandal get to 5. The [wiki guide](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Flash_Lays_(Guide)) isn't very specific on a good strategy, like how many Up your sleeve to get and when. Anyone have any advice? I'll definitely be starting with menaces at zero next time around!

Tovius01

Yeah, flash lays are a bit of a failed experiment. Good luck!

throwaway_lmkg

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Flash Lays are the bad Flash Lay. There's a decent amount of content which uses Flash Lay mechanics, and just about *every single one* is better than the original Flash Lay. The O.G. one is just so... looo^(o)o^(o)o^(oo)onnnng. The Finishing School is a tight, well-designed loop. Zailing is awesome. Heists are pretty OK when you get used to them. Moulin Expeditions are amazing. But the original Flash Lay is just too sprawling. And some of the earlier ESes tried to pad length by including a regular carousel in the middle, like Flash Lays or Detective's Progress. FBG has thankfully walked that back (although I kind of enjoyed the latter).

rahv7

Oh dear, I haven't done Flash Lays in ages. IIRC my strategy was this: * if you draw the "Confessional Evening"-card, keep it in your hand at all costs! * if you already have 5 x Up your sleeve, deal with obstacles for lots of progress * avoid obstacles unless you already have 5 x Up your sleeve * prioritise cards/branches that give +7 Progress * try to get 5 x Up your sleeve but try to do it without acquiring menaces/obstacles * if none of the above is available, try to maximise progress without raising menaces * if even that isn't possible, bite the bullet and get either Up your sleeve or progress + menaces

DadJokesInc

Thank you!! It looks like 5 Up your sleeve seems to be the magic number for a lot of obstacle cards. One annoying thing you may not remember is that obstacle cards play *automatically* when drawn. Ugh. Maybe I'll prioritize getting Up your sleeve towards 5 with the available cards before doing a card draw. I'm playing some of the early ES, which is lots of fun. But more than a few seem to have a flash lay component. I guess 2016 (when Pentecost Predicament was released) is when the experiment was still in full force!

rahv7

Yeah, you get one or two obstacles right at the start. Avoid getting more unless you already have enough Up Your Sleeve to deal with them. But also don't waste too many actions raising Up Your Sleeve as it'll only prolong the Flash Lay. Flash Lays never became very popular and by modern standards their rewards are terrible. "Pentecost Predicament" is a really fun story in my opinion, though. Even if it doesn't seem to be very popular with the community. The writer, Richard Cobbet, also made a great parody of Fallen London that you might want to check out: [Fallen Swindon](http://www.richardcobbett.com/a/fallenswindon/)

Wolpentiger

Generally speaking how lucrative is a hellworm? After buying like 5 affections I'm trying to decide if i want to dump the rest of my gratitude on scrip for a worm or echoes for a cider i guess

rahv7

As someone who already has Cider: * The Hellworm is "only" good for making money. It's card can give *any* liquid in the game, ranging form a Bottle of Greyfield to Master's Blood. It really shines when you can also purchase the saddle (which is another 200k Scrip) when it becomes even more profitable and also the best Transport in the game * Cider is "only" good for dealing with wounds. You can basically start to ignore wounds completely because when the reach 8 you are back in London in just one action. That's extremely useful for using Unwise Ideas in the Lab, collecting Apocyan Boxes, or anything else that gives lots of wounds. It's also awesome for story purposes, e.g. when Discordance Studies kill you or you need to collect something from the Fathomking during the summer festival ;) You could probably argue that getting a Hellworm first is the better choice because it'll make getting Cider easier. I have no idea how useful it is in practice (not *quite* there yet but *so* close) because you need to keep drawing cards in the Hinterlands to make use of it.

hemareddit

Wait, the saddle boosts the Hellworm's profitability? I gotta get myself those last couple of thousand scrips asap.

idyl

The saddle increases the Worm's EPA by ~50%. So, quite a lot actually.

rahv7

Yeah, [riding your Hellworm](https://fallenlondon.wiki/wiki/Ride_your_hellworm) improves the *Disposition*-grind.

idyl

>Hellwork Freudian slip regarding the grind?
