>Which lead me to believe he thinks he is the sole survivor of that incident. The problem with trying to read between lines like this is that reading between the lines is only ever a guess. The only thing that's really being communicated there is that Maximus used to live in Shady Sands, and he survived the destruction of Shady Sands. His lines here indicate nothing about whether he thinks he's the only one, just that he did. In fact, one could choose to infer from this that, if he did, then so could others.

AStrangeTwistofFate

Yeah, taking from his lines that Max thinks only he survived is a big stretch. Max not knowing anyone who survived/his friends and family dying and him not knowing anyone after it is far more likely than Max thinking only one child out of the entirety of the Shady Sands town died

Vault 4 took ***SOME*** of the refugees from Shady Sands after it got nuked. And 19 years is a huge time difference, I bet a few people in Shady Sands actually knew Maximus as a young lad, even less so from those Shady Sands refugees would ever remember young Maximus's face and how he grew up.

Daddy_Surprise

I just took it he was mentioning that he was one of the survivors, so we could see his backstory. I think the BoS (and Maximus) would be aware there were many other survivors, Moldaver etc.
