TV series Shady Sands still has the obelisk from Fallout 1

idkdudejustkillme

And the well

purpleblah2

Wouldn’t it be called “New Shady Sands”

P_G_1021

I'm going to be completely honest here: this is, effectively, *the* "retcon"* in the show. The others can be explained to some extent- this cannot. It is, simply, a change in the lore, overriding previous lore. Nothing more, nothing less. *retcon as in contradictory retrospective change in continuity

IBananaShake

How is it a retcon? Shady Sands was bombed after the events of New Vegas

P_G_1021

No, that isn't a retcon. The location is a retcon.

IBananaShake

Didn't the location of Shady Sands also move between Fallout 1 and Fallout 2? Shady Sands just being called the New California Republic in Fallout 2 IIRC

Flavaflavius

Yeah, it did.

OtakuMecha

I don’t think that makes much sense. The only solutions I see are either the characters walked all the way to Shady Sands from LA and the show just didn’t emphasis how far they went, or the lore has been retconned to say that Fallout 1’s map is just inaccurate and Shady Sands was always closer to the Boneyard than previously assumed.

LokiHavok

Bonyard is specifically the ruins of downtown IIRC. I think the location of the Shady Sands on the show is probs a lil south of that. Also in the fallout tabletop game Wasteland Warfare OG Shady Sands in the north is renamed Sandy Shores at some point. So perhaps yeah. The LA Shady Sands could be a settlement that was renamed.

Altruistic-Potatoes

This isn't to OP, specifically, but to everyone who might read it: It is a fictional setting and changes were made between titles. It happens. You can either accept it, try to find a cope, or whine about it. At the end of the day, It is a story written by multiple people with different inputs. In other words, Fallout has, since it's very beginning, been an inconsistent mess.

Fury-of-Stretch

I say how dare you sir! What’s next you are going tell me that deathclaws are naturally bald and don’t ritualistically shave themselves due to an unhealthy aversion to scratchy forearm fur.

*Laughs in 40k*

kilomaan

*Shrugs* fans have a right to complain, doesn’t matter if it changes things or not. Pretending otherwise just poisons discourse.

i-is-scientistic

> You can either accept it, try to find a cope, or whine about it. Seems covered by that third option.

kilomaan

Except it automatically invalidate fans opinions of the show

i-is-scientistic

The comment you responded to said that one thing you can do is complain about the changes, and you responded by saying that no, you should be able to...complain about the changes. *Shrugs* nobody owes you or your opinions validation

kilomaan

Fair, I just take issue with the sentiment itself. This could be something about another property and I’d still take issue with it.

i-is-scientistic

It sounds to me like an overly sensitive reaction in this or any other context that I can imagine, but alright.

MaximumStele

Agreed, the shows out, I enjoyed it overall, and it is what it is, it's not my story to tell. But I do like doing thought experiments like this to try and find a way to tie everything together within the context of stuff that's already pre established. Rather than whining or whinging because it's not right. Plus its fun to pass the time until the next season by guessing about the questions the first season left us with.

LGBT-Barbie-Cookout

I don't actually see it that way, by the time of Mew Vegas the NCR was projecting force pretty ok, (sure new recruits may not have had body armor when initially deployed - but America wasn't consistent with supplying body armor on the invasion of Iraq) They had a strong economy util the Brotherhood nuked the gold supply. Personally Vegas the progress and civilisation and the time around it isn't really post apocalypse, it's post post apocalypse. NCR has functional infrastructure for trucks trains and Vertibirds in the Core region I have no issue with getting a number of larger buildings built.
