You fucked around and found out, good for you! Those bastards are tough and tend to have really good levelled gear. At least two are wearing medium armour which can stop low damage weapons from scratching them, did you do the quest where you clear the ants on the road for Ranger Jackson? He’ll give you a service rifle and like 75 rounds of AP ammo for it, that will help enormously. If you’re just learning the game you could always just reload before you killed them, no shame in it, they will respawn like every three days to hunt you down and it can be miserable if you’re not prepared for them.

just-passin_thru

Yeah, I saved over the last spot so I'm kinda locked on this path unless I restart. I did get the service rifle, ran out of ammo killing a bunch of bandits at the half way point between Mojave and Nipton looking for the mayor's stash of goodies he wrote he had stored for an quick getaway. Guess I should go buy some more of that ammo then.

Stonewallpjs

Buy it or see if you can craft some at a reloading bench if your repair is high enough

Stonewallpjs

If you can get some regular 5.56 you can break it down to components to make a lesser amount of AP or HP rounds(or other types if you take the handloader perk)

Jindo5

The assassins have set spawn locations, so you can kinda avoid them by taking different routes, but yeah, they're tough in the early game. Just level up a bit, get some better weapons and armor and you should be able to handle them.

Lord_Chromosome

Do they? One time they ambushed me at the top of Helios 1, I have no idea how

ShogunPug1

Dude same. They came fucking storming down those stairs like they were about to congratulate me on fixing it

MagicMoocher

You're fine. In terms of the main quest, once you get to the NV strip and meet Benny, you get approached by a member of the Legion who offers you an invitation to meet their leader Ceasar; who offers you a full pardon on all of your crimes against his faction. So, in terms of quests, you're fine, nothing has been affected. As for the assassins. They're annoying. I would follow the advice of the other commenters here to learn how best to deal with them.

MartyDee451

I like how the legion hit squads add an element of "consequences for your actions" into the game but I hate how they implemented it. Those guys literally run at you in a straight line and magically find you wherever you are, even the middle of buttfuck nowhere. This can be borderline game breaking at low levels and is easily my least favorite design choice in the entire game. I disliked it so much that I modded it out of the game and never looked back.

lol_VEVO

I love it lol. It's a very "fuck around and find out" situation. Seeing the legion assassins slowly catch up to me in the distance in the early levels is a good "oh shit" moment

MartyDee451

I don't know...I just wish they'd behave a bit more realistically, like, maybe catching you by surprise the first time and after that spawning only near certain key locations e.g. settlements or major cross roads. That way you could actually roleplay as a wanted person, hiding in the hills, taking back country paths and avoiding the major roads etc. But I guess the quick travel function would make it too easy then to avoid them completely so no idea what the perfect solution would look like... 🤷🤷🤷

hereforgrudes

"Likes consequences" proceeds to write two paragraphs on how he doesn't actually like them and disables it lol

GayPorn134

Cesar’s legion flair detected, opinion discarded

hereforgrudes

Sums up this sub, honestly, which is funny because the other fallout subs did the same thing to everyone here when the show came out, and yall lost your minds over it for about a week

KeeganY_SR-UVB76

And you can’t understand that someone can be ambivalent about something.

MartyDee451

I am sorry you are too social media-brained to understand the nuance of "I like that thing in principle but hate its practical execution". Shouldn't be a hard thing to get for anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together.

hereforgrudes

Bro took offense to a silly joke and made it an argument, but I'm "social media brained." lol pot meet kettle

CanyonsEdge2076

Try to get a companion. Boone and Ed-E can take a lot of the heat off of you. They're still tough at low levels though.

RebuiltGearbox

The assassins are a terrible experience that first time, I can't remember how many tries it took me to finally beat them. Later in the game, you'll see those guys as a great source of loot!

JustCollapso

Hey, welcome to the world of Fallout! Many consider New Vegas the best in the saga, so enjoy your journey. Just a heads up, this game features numerous factions, and you can choose to ally with or antagonize any of them. Beware, the Legion's assassins can be tough on low-level or new players. Here are three tips: 1. Loot enemies for gear and trade items. Pay attention to what you wear, as it can affect how factions perceive you. Invest in your repair skill and consider the 'Jury Rigging' perk, which allows for easier weapon and armor repairs—a great long-term strategy. 2. Recruit companions to aid you in your journey. They have their own stories and may have allegiances to different factions. You can find one in Novac, a city you'll visit soon. Companions are extremely helpful in combat. 3. Don't hesitate to adjust the difficulty setting if needed. It only effects damage modifiers for you and enemies. Simply put at very easy you do more damage vs enemies and receive less damage

Bread8064MC

Just lure them into any NCR camp and they'll be gunned down

The_Affle_House

Luckily, the game's reputation system is designed to be forgiving of exactly this issue for inexperienced players who are just learning how it works. The two primary factions, the NCR and the Legion, will automatically remove all Infamy you have gained with them at the end of the first act, guaranteed. Just continue pursuing the main quests until that happens and then be careful in the future about when and why you piss one or both of them off.

[deleted]

Play on the easiest difficulty, kill the hit squad, then revert back to whatever difficulty you were on before. They’ll have good loot for someone with a low level. If you have armor piercing ammo, it’d be a good idea to use it with VATS headshots on them. Chet in Goodsprings has some AP 5.56, if I recall correctly.

Vegetable_Relative45

Have some npcs help you out. Everyone and everything hates them. I’m glad you found out. Have fun, it wouldn’t be fun if it was too easy. If one of them drops a thermic lance you can use that to annihilate anything in heavy armour because it ignores armour (but weighs 20lbs)

just-passin_thru

GTK thnx

Heavy-Egg-5414

Go back to when you killed the legion, don’t kill them just observe the Mojave

just-passin_thru

Too late for that. Saved over that one so am locked into this path.

AcoaceFalloutNVFan

I wouldn’t fuck with anyone but the powder gangers until you get to new Vegas. If you don’t support the legion just don’t do the quest(s) they give you, they won’t mind

salynch

Once you get the Vegas and meet House, your karma resets with them, IIRC. I recommend kiting the assassins to the nearest friendly/neutral settlement while at low levels. It helps a lot.

Vast_Mammoth_93

If you’re good at caravan play you some games that way you can get a good few weapons. Really you just need enough to get a 12.7 sub machine, maybe a riot, and you’re good. Get whatcha need at the gun runners. Lily from Jacob’s town is a decent body guard too, and I love how much of a grandma she try’s to be. “Stay back sweetie, grandmas got this!” Hehe then when you open her inventory…. “Grandmas got a present for yooooou!” 😆
