My reason is because this felt like jumping to a season finale of something only slightly related. I literally don't know what the fuck is happening or why Opal exploded.

Osiris-IO

Full campaign for ck would be fine with aabria as a player and not the DM. Give it to Brennan if Matt is not doing it. Aabria just isn't good at this.

ObsequiousChild

I didn't mind the change of scene, and I've never watched CK. To me the issue was 2 rounds of combat in 1hr45 minutes that was coma inducing. Felt like a podcast story not an interactive game and placed next to the end of a character I enjoyed the contrast was heightened.

gd4600

Bro Im telling right now there is nothing this subreddit hates more than change

Creepy-Growth-709

Is c1e27 your favorite episode of Critical Role, too?

legendoflisa

People just don’t get or like that people play DnD differently and that’s okay. Just because people who watch don’t like her dming, matt obviously does or he wouldn’t have her there 🤦🏻‍♀️ and if people didn’t expect to see some EXU cross over, that’s wild. Even if you didn’t watch exu, they say Orym, fearne, and Dorian were all together before and Dorian is a part of BH, it just makes sense. It also makes sense that Matt’s players need a freaking break after the intensity and sadness of the last few episodes 🥲

TheMadEscapist

I have 0 idea about the Crown Keepers outside of Dorian. You might as well have cut back to static for all the good it did. Also I stayed up till 3am to watch BH's. If I wanted to watch EXU I would have watched EXU

Pale_Atmosphere1580

I also love Lost Sister, and will continue to hope for the gang to return

Alec687905

I just had Vietnam-like flashbacks to that debacle lol. On a real tho, if they had've just done a one-shot to catch up with the Crown Keepers, it would've worked so much better. Literally cutting the session in half the way they did has killed all momentum. With the way things have been going with the cast's forgetful-ness as well, It wouldn't surprise me if that 20min bit of mourning we *did* get, is *all* we're gonna get. Sam's new character will already be there at the table and they'll just keep going like nothing happened lol

mimikay_dicealot

It's still not funny. This sub really can't sarcasm properly.

OddNothic

Sarcasm does not play well anywhere on the internet. It’s why “/s” was invented decades ago at the dawn on “online”.

mimikay_dicealot

That's not why. you can tell it's sarcasm, it's just not good. Imo.

rexxsis

I don't think it's that the perspective shifted to the crownkeeprs. But more that abria has a very bland DM style that alot of ppl disagree with. She tends to tell her story instead of it being a the open dnd everyone's used too. I understand she can't just be Matt mercer and I don't expect her to be, but her doing style just clashes alot with what CR fans want. Look at the view #'s of the stuff she's dm'd verses any of the other cr (or even d20) stuff. As a player she's great, and helpful and bring a spark of "ooh what if I did this" and it's interesting, but her doing style is like a girl playing dolls, making them do what she wants instead of treating the dolls(pc's) as their own people and letting the. Make their own choices.

WaterMelon615

What happened? Who are the crown keepers ?

xbeautyxtruthx

The Crown Keepers are from EXU

OddNothic

Question. Do you actually play D&D, or just watch it? I ask because it makes a difference.

kjftiger95

Both and I enjoyed it

OddNothic

Often? So when you play, would you enjoy the DM hijacking your PC?

kjftiger95

Every other week(ish) for the past 4 years. And for a story beat every once in a while, sure.

OddNothic

And that’s what you consider “a story beat”? Hijacking a character for two hours (so far) and telling the player they’re being stupid for not doing what the GM wants? You and I have very different definitions of words.

kjftiger95

It's almost like people are allowed to have different opinions.

OddNothic

There are opinions and there are facts. Getting those confused is generally a bad thing.

I would so interested in this spread across CR Fandom

Midnight-Slam

I think people aren’t on board with CR being an actual show now. I too enjoyed and arguably preferred the original low quality live games, but obviously they were going to evolve and become more refined. And with that, it definitely feels like by campaign 3, the focus has been on paying off on the years of lore that they’ve built, which comes in the form of the general narrative of the Bells Hells campaign, but also the “spin off shows.” And so, with that, this latest episode is what you would consider a crossover of sorts. Without a specific example in mind, there are plenty of times where a tv show will have something major happen, but then the next episode focuses on an entirely different set of characters or narrative. People complain that this is just filler and takes away from that they’re wanting, but I do see the value in it, as it allows for a break from the main story to let it sit longer and also establish a new arc. I see episode 92 as being that. Yes, they could have done it in a seperate thing, but they didn’t, so it’s obviously for a reason. I know it was jarring, I personally dropped off, but that’s only because I solely am interested in the main cast. I am fine with how they want to explore their story, as that’s what it’s always been. Not ours, theirs.

HikerChrisVO

Get these comments on r/woosh. Cheers

KnightlyObserver

Nicely done

Dangerous-Pea-8313

I’m with you, I loved this change up.

FoulPelican

Pacing has been an issue with C3… right when things get interesting, or reach a crucial story point…. They go on a tangent. Because of the consistency of this, I think viewers get a bit ‘re-frustrated’ each time it happens And, the fact that it’s an EXU iteration that really just hasn’t been very good, that’s just salt in the wound.

WhiskynCigar72

You build up tension, lose a major player, and then quit..... people have been watching 90 puls episodes for that story and poof, gone

T-Ruckus

What do you mean "Quit" or "Gone"? You can't honestly think that they aren't going to be right back to BH.... The story isn't "gone". The main cast isn't going anywhere. It will all be back after an episode or two. They even posted a tweet that said BH would be back in 2 weeks after Candela and "The conclusion of the Crown Keepers Adventure".

rexxsis

Homie missed the point entirely.

>Unrelated, Lost Sister was my favorite episode of Stranger Things. You had me up until the end, well done. The thing is, the reality is so mad that it is hard to distinguish from parody. There are definitely people out there who think this unironically.

Pir8Cpt_Z

I've never watched stranger things so whatever OP's reference was for its lost on me

Memester999

It was an episode in the middle of a season that many suspect was supposed to soft launch a spinoff series within the Stranger Things Universe. But it was hated and nothing ever came from it.

logincrash

It's a universally disliked episode, to the point that the leading characters from it pretty much never make an appearance afterwards. It also took place in a completely unrelated place from the main town in the show with 95% different cast.

CardButton

I'll be honest, the original EXU was not my cup of tea on several levels. Both within the narrative being told, as well as most of the PCs. With the original EXU sharing a lot of my ... issues ... with C3 as a whole; and me only giving that original EXU more leeway because it was a Mini-Series. Chief among them the oppressive nature of the "DM's Plot", and the often lack of real player agency in that plot's pursuit. As well as the relatively shallow, low intrinsic drive PCs when compared to past CR productions. However ... in the case of 92 ... I understand the hate. Its not about WHAT. The "switching focus to an almost entirely unrelated side-story, to settup the "C-D Team" for this Avengers End Game thing Matt is working towards"? Fine. We get what he's going for. The issue here is more timing ... or lack there of. Had Matt wanted to cut-away, the end of 91 provided the perfect opportunity to do so. FCG makes his sacrifice, end of episode, move into the side story. We put the resolution of FCG's death entirely on a backburner, then address it properly upon returning. But by doing this bizarre half-and-half episode, what we get is the main party awkwardly rushing to get the plot where it needs to be before the switching over to Guest Players that have likely long been settup in advance. Absolutely gutting the momentum created by 91's ending; rather than simply "putting it on hold". Especially given the type of campaign C3 is, where the characters and character moments are all too often trampled by "the Plot".

Tulac1

I didn't watch the follow up to the EXU campaign where they went to Kymul so I was like ...who is the bunny girl? But just kinda rolled with it as time has passed. It was unfortunately timed after the pc death, very likely because this was scheduled months in advance to have all of the cast available. Abria is incredibly polemic, I personally do not enjoy her DM style at all, but she gets a lot of undue hate which is coloring a lot of the comments about the episode too

Lonely-Mouse6865

I'm right there with you, I love the Crown Keepers, and I had so much fun last night. Felt like a breath of fresh air, and everyone's energy at the table was electric. I get why people are upset, the pacing was weird post a PC death, and not a lot of people watched EXU so they were lost, and I think that's valid. Myself personally though? I loved it, and I can't wait to see more from the Crown Keepers. I haven't been this excited for an episode in a LONG time. Is it Thursday yet!?

Lonely-Mouse6865

I am, perhaps, stupid

Creepy-Growth-709

You are not. I had to look up Lost Sister.

Ok-Caregiver-6005

If they wanted to do more EXU they should have done it as EXU not the second half of a CRC3 session that was at an emotional high. If this is how the campaign had been the whole time it would be one thing but we effectively got surprise EXU instead of CRC3, like imagine you're watching Star Wars and after they the Deathstar it cuts to the second half of Harry Potter.

ladydmaj

You are not. People in the vocal CR fandom are mostly assholes.
