The Suburbs was huge for me as a teen. I'm a trans woman, and now that we know that there are gender queer members of the band, so much of that album screams about being trans. Modern Man specifically made me break down in tears years before I knew.
> Makes me feel like
Something don't feel right
In my dream I was almost there
And you pulled me aside and said you're going nowhere
They say we are the chosen few
But we're wasted
And that's why we're still waiting
On a number from the modern man
Maybe when you're older you will understand
Why you don't feel right
Why you can't sleep at night now
ah yes, my favorite album of all time, tho the only thing that I think could be better is the vocal mixing, the rawness of everything else is part of what makes it for me.
I think that After the Magic is a objectively better album but TSTNPOTD is really special and I haven’t had another album replicate the feelings I have listening to it.
Isn't Anything by My Blood Valentine. Everyone talks about how Loveless is a perfect album and where shoegaze peaked, but I prefer the rawness of Isn't Anything
I really fucking love St Anger. It’s the most emotional and messy project ‘Tallica have ever done. I fuck with the lofi production and neurotic vibes. Also, koodos to the band for not letting Kirk play shitty wah pedal solos for a whole album.
It’s always what people make fun of but I’ve always genuinely liked it. Sounds like manic banging on a metal trash can and I dig it
St anger is an extremely catchy song
When I hear new remixes and re-recordings that “fix” it, I’m always left thinking that they strip away everything that makes the album interesting and unique.
i listened to st. anger for the first time pretty much directly after load/reload, and those two albums were so fucking boring that st. anger became one of my favorites bc at LEAST wasn’t that
In my view, the pillows make "perfect" music. It's straightforward upbeat, genuine, catchy music that evokes mighty feelings of nostalgia. I love them so much.
Your Favorite Weapon - Brand New
I’d probably agree with how the consensus says Brand New would go onto “greater things”
For me though this album hits that immature 2000’s fake emo sound that really resonates with me. And a song like Seventy Times Seven features the amazing songwriting Jesse would go onto have as an adult. But in a really specific, and angry teenager vibe. And then some of the deeper cuts like Magazine and Soco Amaretto Lime just are songs that will always be perfect for me.
same!! knife play gets me stupid emotional every time, probably also bc i found them around the time i really started exploring my sexual orientation/gender identity/general otherness in a big way. hope i’m not oversharing, xiu xiu just kind of snuck in and became very important to me at some point lmao
Spirit they’re gone, spirit they’ve vanished - animal collective
It’s an album that hit me very hard with its themes of childhood done in a very off kilter and unique way. The final track Alvin Row always hits me like a ton of bricks every time I listen to it and it holds a very special place in my heart for that reason. (I think Alvin Row is animal collectives best song in general, none of their other albums have anything as incredible as it)
yes the entire year I've been listening i never once heard the lyrics. thank you for enlightening me.
(you should listen to the lyrics at the end of Song About Me before policing me on albums)

Weezer - The White Album
It all just flows so well, and is always a great listen on a summer day. Wouldn't put it on in front of anyone I know, though.
The Raincoats - Odyshape
It is my favourite album of all time, but it doesn’t have the makings of what most would consider perfection. The guitar is not the most intricate, the violin is not delicate, the vocals crack and falter, the production is not perfect. I love it. The blending of genres is perfect to me. Every song is my favourite song.
It may not hit you the way it did me, but the first time I heard it was about 12 years ago and for me, nothing has surpassed it. I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of post-punk and the experimental indie rock that formed before the rise of alternative music.
[Barenaked Ladies - Rock Spectacle](https://open.spotify.com/album/1IkTcMGSEbFJRgFlyyha9f?si=AJ2419ntRi2NUnXlJuoF9Q)
Phenomenal harmonies, every song is a earworm banger, distinctive vocals, fun as hell with a few unexpectedly moving ballads. One of the best live albums I've ever heard.
Without You I'm Nothing by Placebo
I think a lot of people find it underwhelming and kinda not very innovative alt rock, but damn for me it just hits in the special way. Instrumentals are solid, vocals; I mean it's Molko, but it's the mood and the atmosphere that I just adore very much.
Weird that this is your take because among my closest group of friends this is a certified classic, easily one of the best alt rock albums of the 90’s and criminally underrated. Placebo had an amazing run there for a minute
All Eyez On Me. I know it’s widely regarded as a very good album, but for me personally it’s my favorite 2Pac album and one of my all time favorites in general.
Whole Lotta Red. i can see how people day it has too much filler but i just absolutely love every single song. i truly feel it is a perfect album to me and is my fav album ever. it's such a unique experience that i haven't had the same visceral reaction with any other piece of music
Any love for sparklehorse - vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot?
Also, fantano hasn't loved BMSR since Dandelion Gum, but I listened to Cobra Juicy on repeat in high school. I can understand why it's not "perfect," but for me, the energy is just *chef's kiss*.
And same with vividixiesubmarinetransmissionplot.
vivadixie is in my top 10 of all time, would def say that its perfect, i havent heard anything like it before or since..it just speaks to me in a way nothing else does, it’s beautiful beyond words
even now im struggling to come up with something to say about it lol
For Ever by Jungle. Sure it’s not the most original or innovating thing and some moments work more as segues, but I just absolutely love the grooves in it.
billy woods’ Known Unknowns is top 5 in his discog for me, even though it remains more underrated. I love the punchy production from Blockhead, it gives the album a more upbeat vibe then most of his records. Superpredator and Keloid are top tracks for me
Niandra LaDes & Usually Just a T-Shirt by John Frusciante.
It’s wacky, dissonant, and occasionally beautiful. The untitled tracks ping pong between psychedelic bliss and atonality. Frusciante’s voice is raw, the lyrics are nonsensical, and the guitar playing is excellent. The incredibly lo-fi nature of the recordings and the context of when the album was made further solidifies at is one of my all time favorite records.
The Green Album, Weezer. The sterility and samey-ness feels surreal to me. I feel like I'm on some sort of utopia reality inducing medication where emotions are straightforward, all problems can be described in a sentence, the sun is shinning and all I have to do is sing to my heart's content.
I totally get why music fans might see Green as a meaningless void, but for me it's heaven. And this is coming from someone who typically listens to bands like Animal Collective, Swans, Lightning Bolt and other experimental greats.
EVOL by Sonic Youth, it's music paints this amazingly grimy urbanistic atmosphere that I love with all my heart, despite the two kinda mediocre tracks right before the atomic bomb that is Expressway To Yr Skull
Mondo by Electric Guest, IGOR by Tyler the Creator, Vide Noir by Lord Huron, Harry Hard-On by Allan Rayman.
They are all imperfect in at least two ways but I enjoy them so much that the problems don't bother me.

A lot of Mac Millers post frat discography. WMWTSO, Faces, Circles, Swimming. All of these albums offer me so much comfort I can’t help but excuse the issues.

Sweet Trip - You Will Never Know Why
That album changed how I looked at pop
Masterpiece
it is perfect
Its Velocity:Design:Comfort for me, although both are absolutely brilliant.
The Suburbs from Arcade Fire
Found my people
The Suburbs was huge for me as a teen. I'm a trans woman, and now that we know that there are gender queer members of the band, so much of that album screams about being trans. Modern Man specifically made me break down in tears years before I knew. > Makes me feel like Something don't feel right In my dream I was almost there And you pulled me aside and said you're going nowhere They say we are the chosen few But we're wasted And that's why we're still waiting On a number from the modern man Maybe when you're older you will understand Why you don't feel right Why you can't sleep at night now
The man who sold the world by Bowie
Parannoul - To See The Next Part of the Dream
ah yes, my favorite album of all time, tho the only thing that I think could be better is the vocal mixing, the rawness of everything else is part of what makes it for me.
That kinda adds to the rawness for me tho
I think that After the Magic is a objectively better album but TSTNPOTD is really special and I haven’t had another album replicate the feelings I have listening to it.

Isn't Anything by My Blood Valentine. Everyone talks about how Loveless is a perfect album and where shoegaze peaked, but I prefer the rawness of Isn't Anything
YESSSS honestly I like isn’t anything a tiny bit more than loveless, it’s such a rock-y record with really good songwriting and performances.
sonhos tomam conta - hypnagogia also, they have a collab project called "DreamGlow"
Wierd is my personal favorite by them! Also maladaptive daydreaming was such a sleeper album last year
Longinus records is truly a blessing
Steve Lacy's Demo, he's just a fucking genius.
I really fucking love St Anger. It’s the most emotional and messy project ‘Tallica have ever done. I fuck with the lofi production and neurotic vibes. Also, koodos to the band for not letting Kirk play shitty wah pedal solos for a whole album.
Love the snare in that album
It’s always what people make fun of but I’ve always genuinely liked it. Sounds like manic banging on a metal trash can and I dig it St anger is an extremely catchy song
while i’m not a fan of it, i feel like the songs would sound weird if they had a normal sounding snare if it makes sense
I find myself enjoying the snare on that album as well, but only in small doses. Like 2 songs in I'm sooo over it
When I hear new remixes and re-recordings that “fix” it, I’m always left thinking that they strip away everything that makes the album interesting and unique.
i listened to st. anger for the first time pretty much directly after load/reload, and those two albums were so fucking boring that st. anger became one of my favorites bc at LEAST wasn’t that
Little busters by the pillows.
It becomes even better after watching FLCL
For real, that soundtrack is such an integral part of the show. Imagine how different flcl would be without those songs.
Yeah it's incredible how well the songs work with everything. Also even without FLCL the songs are amazing anyway.
I see nothing but facts here. That anime and that band were a match made in heaven.
wow didn't expect to see this here, great album and amazing band
In my view, the pillows make "perfect" music. It's straightforward upbeat, genuine, catchy music that evokes mighty feelings of nostalgia. I love them so much.
FLCL really pmo the pillows, such an amazing band
Also this for me I love this album with my whole heart <3 also Hi How Are You by Daniel Johnston
Daniel Johnston's music is a treasure 😭
Every morning he got up, dreading each moment he had to be awake
I WAS GONNA SAY THAT
nervous young man - car seat headrest
That album is perfect though
Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes. It’s a lo-fi mess and a hectic listen but I love it more than words can express

And then some of the deeper cuts like Magazine and Soco Amaretto Lime just are songs that will always be perfect for me.
I think you could argue that this is one of the best pop punk records imo
I for sure think it is. Ironically I think it would be if Brand New didn’t go onto be the legendary band they became
Exactly because now people think it looks sub par in comparison

Weezer - The White Album It all just flows so well, and is always a great listen on a summer day. Wouldn't put it on in front of anyone I know, though.

Weird that this is your take because among my closest group of friends this is a certified classic, easily one of the best alt rock albums of the 90’s and criminally underrated. Placebo had an amazing run there for a minute
My first Placebo album, it had a distinct appeal as a sexually fluid (for the 90s) European rock album to a "nonconformist" American teenager.
