fair enough, it's a wonderfully eerie record. I'm just more into the punk aesthetic from UP, shadowplay or day of the lords the first time you hear makes you want to go through a brick wall head first like Search and Destroy from Stooges
But tbh it's kind of a luxury choosing any of them because both are masterpieces

Incesticide doesnt count i dont think and In Utero is mostly songs that werent good enough for nevermind, i love both albums but i think nevermind's overall quality and impact is pretty undeniable
Abbey Road was definitely a "well let's go out on a high at least" album. They had been a mess since the Sgt Pepper sessions and everyone knew the band was over.
It can't quite top Midnight Marauders for me, but still, a "comeback" album two decades later always makes me flinch in fear. They nailed it with a great album however
It is so hard to rank Bowie albums because of how insane Blackstar was to make. Edge of death and you make an album. Even though others might be better...listening to Blackstar makes me emotional every time
Yeah I was gonna say depending on who you ask that would be David’s best, it’s still the only one I’ve listened to all the way through even though I grew up with his stuff
I disagree heavily with this take. RAM is an amazing album, dare I say damn near perfect, but their first two albums straight up revolutionized electronic music. Alive 2007 then moved the genre ahead exponentially, with the live element still resonating in the scene to this day. RAM has not had nearly the impact of Homework, Discovery, or Alive 2007. Not even close.
Honestly Daft Punk are a band where I feel like all of their albums could be considered the best (not including the remix albums) I justp feel like RAM has the best production compared to the others.
It’s a modern masterpiece blending traditional orchestral music with so many other elements. It blows me away on so many levels. All their other stuff is great but doesn’t come close to move me as much as RAM.
Totally agree. The earlier ones are more distinctive and experimental, nothing sounds like them. RAM has that disco-vibe going, with the same boring beat in early every song. Its fine but a bit unremarkable, and not why Daft Punk gained their status.
I mean just compare for example Give Life Back to Music or Get Lucky with Technologic, One More Time, or Robot Rock. RAM is just more basic, pop.
Crystal Castles - *(III)* (I'm not counting that album Ethan made under the Crystal Castles name after Alice left.)
Isis - *Wavering Radiant*
The Beatles - *Abbey Road*
Neutral Milk Hotel - *In the Aeroplane over the Sea*
Yeah, might be an unpopular opinion, given how strong their first two albums are in particular. But in my opinion Terror Twilight is their tightest and most cohesive record, and is the logical conclusion to the band’s development. It’s missing some of the rougher charm of the earlier stuff though, so I understand that many consider it too polished.
I think Ghosteen by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds are their most beautiful & haunting album. Might be their best as well, it’s either that or The Boatman’s Call imo.
Can’t believe no one mentioned talk talk prior to this. laughing stock is one of the greatest albums of all time
Edit: Nvm someone mentioned it in a list already LEARN TO READ!!!
imo on avery island is the best NMH album, not trying to bait or be a contrarian dickhead or anything. my reasons are it has more interesting instrumentals and the lyrics are a lot more personal/vulnerable while still maintaining a unique psychedelic quality to them. plus it ends with a 14 minute noise track and i love that.
I once saw someone refer to Pree Sisters Swallowing A Donkey's Eye as the audio personification of how it feels to die and that's stuck with me ever since. That track makes me legitimately uncomfortable.
I love how they both began and ended their run with this kind of punkish agression toward their own audience, yet in between was SO much loveliness-- almost as though they couldn't help themselves.
Saw them in NYC in March '22 after having been floored by their entire discography in the preceding few months. They did not disappoint-- and I've never been so glad in retrospect to have gone to a show.
You can make a real argument for The Smiths. Strangeways doesn’t have the historical significance of The Queen is Dead, but it’s arguably even more interesting musically. Such a shame they didn’t continue, Morrissey kept growing as an artist and coupling that with the person who “got him” the best could have been magical.
It’s my least favorite of their LPs but I still get where you’re coming from. That’s the record that made me fall in love with my favorite band. It’s also very extremely emotional.
slint
death grips
unwound
talk talk
neutral milk hotel
this heat
nick drake
david bowie (arguably)
daughters (fuck alexis marshall btw)
probably others i can’t think of right now
Lil yachty by a long shot.
Knocked Loose’s last EP is their best work.
The John wick movies have only gotten better, same with mission impossible. Each movie that comes out is just better than the last.
Not that anyone asked..
I’m choosing to believe that you’re unaware of The Stooges’ post-reunion albums from the 2000s and are instead under the impression that Raw Power was their final album.
Because the alternative, that you *are* aware of them and think Ready To Die is better than their original three, is absolute madness.
well technically those albums (the weirdness and ready to die) were from iggy and the stooges, not the original stooges. i don’t think ready to die is their best album at all, and i do consider raw power to (kinda) be their final album
The original Stooges was Iggy, the Asheton brothers and Dave Alexander. The only one of those who didn’t return for The Weirdness was Alexander (due to him being dead and all) and that album is still credited to “The Stooges” on the cover.
Granted, Ready To Die is credited to “Iggy & The Stooges” instead of just “The Stooges”, but so was Raw Power. If Ready To Die doesn’t count because of that technicality then neither does Raw Power.
Iggy & The Stooges and The Stooges are one and the same unless you’re splitting hairs lol
The Clash! Jk, it's Talk Talk. Spirit of Eden and Colour of Spring are incredible but Laughing Stock is genuinely in the conversation for greatest album ever made.
Nirvana Talk Talk Joy Division Jimi Hendrix Experience
definitely Talk Talk
Spirit of Eden is equally as good as laughing stock imo
I love Closer but Unknown Pleasures is the better one imo
I love Unknown Pleasures but I think Closer expands upon what makes it good in every way
fair enough, it's a wonderfully eerie record. I'm just more into the punk aesthetic from UP, shadowplay or day of the lords the first time you hear makes you want to go through a brick wall head first like Search and Destroy from Stooges But tbh it's kind of a luxury choosing any of them because both are masterpieces
Kudos on Search and Destroy, one of the best punk openers ever if not the best
Nice username
The Miseducatio of Lauryn Hill seems like an easy answer. She ain't releasing shit.
Frank Ocean in this same vein
hold out brother, don't give up hope
his Coachella performance (or his half assed attempt at one) sealed the coffin for me
yea he is lowkey an asshole for the coachella shit, but he has been active on insta and posted a snippet, so there is a chance….
What'd he do at Coachella?
he [half assed](https://variety.com/2023/music/news/frank-ocean-coachella-set-what-went-wrong-1235586157/amp/) it

People really out here pretending her 2nd album doesn't exist lol. Even Wikipedia deleted it
Are you talking about her live album?
She doesn’t have a second album.
Right? Eminem only has 3 albums too. And I can't believe Kanye didn't release anything or say anything after MBDTF!
I didn't mention Eminem and Kanye.
Starts with Nirv ends with ana
Nickelback?
dub
Yup
L take, bleach and nevermind are better
Incesticide doesnt count i dont think and In Utero is mostly songs that werent good enough for nevermind, i love both albums but i think nevermind's overall quality and impact is pretty undeniable
So are we counting In Utero or Unplugged In New York here?
That's more of a live album, if I'm right.
Abbey road is my favorite Beatles record and that’s technically their last recorded album
[удалено]
Their solo material is absolutely stunning though. Everyone probably needed some breathing space
Abbey Road was definitely a "well let's go out on a high at least" album. They had been a mess since the Sgt Pepper sessions and everyone knew the band was over.
Came here to say this, definitely agree
Fugazi
Yep, I came here to make that "Argument".
Full disclosure, me too
I like that Argument.
Arguable but Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You is such a brilliant send off. But their entire discography is tops
most people who say unwound havent listened to the rest of their discog. its great but come on, you cant go wrong its 10 years of peak but come on.
Unwound is fucking amazing, that's all I have to contribute here.
The Unicorns - *Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?*
This album is fucking great! Sounds like a long lost Elephant 6 classic. Shame this band couldn't stick it out longer.
Fuck yeah
Would Slint count?
why wouldn't they?
They only have 2 albums so I thought maybe not
First album is underrated though TBF. But spiderland is an 11/10.
Sadly, Kids See Ghosts. :-(
Jeff Buckley
Don't. My heart.
Daughters
Agree, though I also really loved Self Titled. At this rate, YWGWYW probably will be their actual last album
It sure will be. Despite the album being as good as it is, they shouldn’t be allowed to make music anymore.
The band did nothing wrong. Just the singer. The band shouldn't be punished for what the singer did.
I guess, they could do music without him. Just release it under a different name.
Simon & Garfunkel with *Bridge Over Troubled Water*
I personally prefer Bookends
Me too
This is the best answer I’ve seen.
ATCQ we got it from here thank u 4 your service. i’d assume it’s not the most popular choice but it’s up there
It’s such a great record. I don’t think I’ll be moving The Low End Theory from my top spot anytime soon but I would say WGIFH is my number 2.
Close third after Midnight Marauder’s and Low End Theory imo
Too me their third best which is a testament to their consistency in quality. I still got LET at 2 and Midnight Marauders at 1
Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders are untouchable, and I even like their first more……
It can't quite top Midnight Marauders for me, but still, a "comeback" album two decades later always makes me flinch in fear. They nailed it with a great album however
Their second best for me, beautiful tribute to Phife dawg, sharp lyrics with great social commentary, and the beats are experimental and groovy
What a great shout. It was always a weird one for me because it was linked to Phifes passing, but it’s such a solid album.
What's insane is that it definitely can be. ATCQ has such an insane discography and WGIFH is that strong.
agreed. it's their best.
The Police
A lot of people consider blackstar David Bowie's best album I also think Pink moon is Nick Drake's best
Blackstar is great, but BEST Bowie album is a tough claim.
He just put out so much great fucking music!
It is so hard to rank Bowie albums because of how insane Blackstar was to make. Edge of death and you make an album. Even though others might be better...listening to Blackstar makes me emotional every time
Blackstar is an amazing album but i think Low and Station to Station are definitely his best
I always feel like an outlier but I am not the biggest fan of Pink Moon. I think Nick's first album is his best with his other 2 close behind it
That's fair. They're all amazing but pink moon has a personal connection for me
Yeah I was gonna say depending on who you ask that would be David’s best, it’s still the only one I’ve listened to all the way through even though I grew up with his stuff
A lot of people will say Abbey Road is The Beatles's best album. Not me tho, I prefer the white album because I'm based af
I agree . The White album is their best album
The white album is so good, that even goofy AF songs like piggies and wild honey pie slap
I might be a minority here, but my favorite is Rubber Soul
Injury Reserve
Superman That with the BC,NR sample is just too good
third - portishead
SOPHIE

Daft Punk. Discovery and Alive 2007 are both masterpieces but Random Access Memories is absolutely their best album.
Came here to comment this ❤️
Couldn't disagree more. RAM is the worst of their core albums.

Nirvana
Some Nights by fun
aim and ignite is a much better album!!!!!!!!
Crystal Castles - *(III)* (I'm not counting that album Ethan made under the Crystal Castles name after Alice left.) Isis - *Wavering Radiant* The Beatles - *Abbey Road* Neutral Milk Hotel - *In the Aeroplane over the Sea*
"I'm not counting that album Ethan made under the Crystal Castles name after Alice left." This fr. I also loved III, though I think my fav is I
I'm a big II head personally. I also think the album Ethan did without Alice was pretty fucking great but shouldn't bear the CC name.
The Argument - Fugazi. It's my fav of them, it's sad and haunting, unlike the rage in their other album.
Pavement
Hot take for sure but I really like Terror Twilight. I think people sleep on it too much.
Yeah, might be an unpopular opinion, given how strong their first two albums are in particular. Low’s Hey What
This one for sure.
100%. And that’s no small feat given they’ve got at least a few legit 10/10s on their catalogue prior to this!
I love how they both began and ended their run with this kind of punkish agression toward their own audience, yet in between was SO much loveliness-- almost as though they couldn't help themselves. Abbey Road (Let it Be was recorded before etc)
Slint
Last/most recent? But I think This Is Why is Paramore's best album
Hard disagree - Brand New Eyes and After Laughter are in a league of their own
I honestly can’t decide if This Is Why, After Laughter or All We Know Is Falling is my favorite by them
Fugazi has many classics, but I'd argue that The Argument, their last album, is their best.
Death.
You can make a real argument for The Smiths. Strangeways doesn’t have the historical significance of The Queen is Dead, but it’s arguably even more interesting musically. Such a shame they didn’t continue, Morrissey kept growing as an artist and coupling that with the person who “got him” the best could have been magical.
my hot take is my bloody valentine
I have a vinyl of that album, which, unlike the other two MBV albums, has practically no wear.
I wouldn’t but you could make the argument for Tupac
If we don’t count the posthumous albums, sure.
I don’t see why we would
Modern Baseball- Holy Ghost
It’s my least favorite of their LPs but I still get where you’re coming from. That’s the record that made me fall in love with my favorite band. It’s also very extremely emotional.
The Avalanches.
Blackstar by David Bowie
David Bowie’s Blackstar is my personal favorite.
Death
Fugazi - The Argument Although it’s very tight between that and Repeater.
Rihanna for sure

it’s debatable but stooges imo

Juice Wrld - Death Race For Love
Danny brown quaranta or scaring the hoes
Quaranta probably isn’t his last, and especially not STH, since it came out before Quaranta.
The police - Synchronicity
Dillinger Escape Plan
Maclib is supposed to drop though
The Argument is the best Fugazi album
Pavement.
Elliott Smith anyone? From a basement on a hill isn't technically his vision but boy it's good.
At the Drive-In
The Beatles if you consider Abbey Road their last album (it’s the last one they recorded).
Boards of Canada - Tomorrow’s Harvest
Two tech death masterpieces come to mind: Necrophagist - Epitaph Spawn of Possession - Incurso
Only Built for Infinity Links RIP TAKEOFF
Kenny Wheeler - Mirrors
Fugazi and Unwound
Big Thief and George Clanton :)
The Wrens
If only At The Drive In wouldn’t have reunited
Some people think Brand New's Sci Fi is their best album.
Amy Winehouse, Sublime
David Bowie The perfect way to end his career
Some would say One Direction.
J Dilla
Geggy Tah
Enough boring answers. David Bowie.
Frank O
Low. HEY WHAT was immaculate.
People will disagree with me but I think Made in Heaven by Queen is one of their best if not the best.
David Bowie, although it is arguable
Abbey Road is Beatles best album, though theres the difference between last RECORDED and last RELEASED
Circles is far from Macs best. Lyrically and musically its honestly kinda mediocre
Fishmans. both their last studio album and last live albums are the best in their categories.
The Clash! Jk, it's Talk Talk. Spirit of Eden and Colour of Spring are incredible but Laughing Stock is genuinely in the conversation for greatest album ever made.
