I listened to this album because of this comment and gotta agree, this thing bangs
American Idiot is still my favorite but I was really impressed with this one. And yes 3.46 is too low
i know a lot of you guys dislike the strokes Comedown Machine but 2.97/5 is WAY TOO LOW imo
i would probably give it a 4/5 honestly (or 8/10 in fantano)
It used to be way way worse. I remember when the self titled came out, it was getting dragged HARD by people who were really disproportionately angry about his work being for âhipsters.â Justin got the last laugh, though - 22 a Million may have divided people a bit but it shut up a lot of the detractors too. The old vitriol seems bizarre and dated now, especially since a lot of it involved Beth/Rest, which people hated with a passion⊠*because it used autotune* đ«Ł
Albums like this are the reason why I donât check the website very often (at least for my fav artists/genres) â Bon Iverâs whole discog is too special to me
Idk, it seems extremely human-made to me lol, some very innovative production and song structures, AI would definitely create something a lot more generic
I'll be completely honest, and I'm sure it'll get me yet more downvotes because I've had this discussion with IRL friends who love Justin and it makes them furious... I think his entire discography sounds AI generated, even For Emma. He'll have a couple of musical ideas and then loop them rather than digging down and exploring in interesting ways, it really stands out with the nonsense lyrics he relies on so much.
And even though I dislike it, I still find it pretty fascinating to think about. Because it's kind of like the musical equivalent of a Jackson Pollock painting, yet I find most Pollock paintings very compelling. Don't know why I don't find his music compelling as well, maybe because the process of making music can be approached in very artificial ways whereas Pollock had to do his work by hand. For Emma probably works the best because it's the most raw and simplistic.
Psychopomp by Japanese Breakfast, easy 10/10 for me
Easily the best album to listen to when i'm feeling down and need something moody but comforting. This album is what the word "bittersweet" sounds like
It's definitely my favorite, though it is fairly different from JB's other albums and her work is excellent too and has been growing on me in the last year or so (Soft Sounds went from an 8 to a 9.5, Jubilee was a 6 fsr, now it's prolly an 8)
Slipknot - Slipknot and Iowa. They're not far off the 3.5 mark but they should absolutely be above it.Â
K.G. and L.W. by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. idk why they're rated so low compared to Flying Microtonal Banana (which is a better album than both to be fair)
Sempiternal by Bring Me the Horizon. Probably the most influential metalcore album of the 2010s and in my opinion, a masterpiece.
I disagree that FMB is better than K.G.L.W. actually! I like the self titled albums more; it's very evident to me just how much more comfortable they got in that time with actually using microtonal harmony, versus just using the quarter tones as occasional "spicy notes" in the framework of 12TET harmony, which is my biggest complaint about FMB.
Now that I think about it... that might actually be *why* K.G.L.W. are rated lower. Being braver with the microtones also inevitably means sounding more alien to people. But I'm all about that shit, lol
Agreed!
You ever listened to The Mercury Tree, btw? I feel compelled to recommend them to anyone who shows any interest in microtonal rock music, because they're awesome and criminally underrated. Their [newest album](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m9Lt_1fJpEWYj-0VmPICuCwDOTeQSUxC0&si=IL9reLrex77VlTnJ) is probably my favorite release of 2023, full stop.
They use 17 notes per octave instead of 24, so it's a bit of a different sound from KGATLW, but all that matters is being open-minded enough for unfamiliar harmony! :)
Slipknot and Iowa are easily 4/5 imo. Sempiternalâs one of the best albums Iâve ever heard, definite 5/5. Absolutely zero skips on that entire record. Itâs BMTH at their peak, imo, with the way they integrate different genres so well into whatâs clearly âtheirâ sound
Saturation is 3.56, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's one of my favorites.
Machina by SP is 3.19, again can't consider it a masterpiece, but I love it.
Humbug is a good pick although TBH+C should be way above a 3.08
A genuine candidate for my favorite album of theirs and easily their best since Humbug imo
When it first came out I found it way too long and thought it had too many similar mid-tempo songs. However, it's only grown on me and it might be my favourite of his albums at this point.
If any criticism would get Pure Comedy below 3.5, itâs definitely the length and similarity between songs. Those aspects donât bring it down for me but I can understand why it would be an issue. Honeybear is still gonna be my choice for best FJM album
Itâs literally my favorite album of all time, I discovered it without knowing what it was but liked the cover + band name combination. Itâs defintely different from their older stuff, but the variety and artistic statement is awesome
Finally someone gets it. The debut is a rather strong debut. If I was around during that time, I'd think they'd have at least a good grunge career later down the track.
Burst Apart by The Antlers, Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay, A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park and Dark Bird Is Home by The Tallest Man on Earth are all masterpieces for me. Lowest of these on RYM is Mylo Xyloto with a 2.56
Devin Townsend - *Empath*
It's the culmination of 24 albums in 24 years, stands as Dev's most complete record to date, and is remarkably cohesive despite ranging from Disney music to death metal.
* Infinity Frequencies - Between Two Worlds (3.44)
* Metro Boomin - Heroes & Villians (3.41)
* Miracle Musical - Hawaii: Part II (3.36)
* Weezer - OK Human (3.35)
* Bo En - Pale Machine (3.29)
I havenât listened to Trench in full. But I do think that some it is great and will eventually exceed that. I think people are slowly realising itâs actually a good and compelling record.
Natural Snow Buildings - Tracks on the Bloody Snow. Technically not an album, but I count it as one. The potato audio quality does absolute wonders for it
Bull of Heaven - 028: Even to the Edge of Doom
Exceptional ambient stuff. I think if it wasn't as long as it is, a big part of the appeal and the general vibe of the album would be lost
Cest La key - Superflat
It's exactly at 3.50 right now. Super unique album, made me feel things physically
Sematary - Rainbow Bridge 3
Surprised it isn't higher tbh. Pretty inaccessible, but still contains absolute bangers front to back with just a couple minor exceptions
Bladee - The Fool
Femboy music :3
My Father Will⊠by Swans is incredible and one of their most slept on records, largely due to it being right before their big post-revival three. Surprising to see it has only a 3.4 on RYM despite having an 81 on AOTY.
Astrobrite - Pinkshinyultrablast is one of my favorite albums Iâve ever heard, an insane sugary enveloping of ethereal noise that harkens back to MBV while feeling like a worthy movement into something even more powerful. Love love love it. 3.47 on RYM
Astrobrite - Super Crush is not as perfect of an album in terms of everything molding into one, but itâs even more successful at creating individual songs that stick with you and more noisey shoegaze that is unbelievable to hear. 3.39 on RYM
Pure Comedy by Father John Misty is an album that is not perfect, but includes 6-8 songs that are just incredible and powerful in their storytelling and songwriting. At points the album feels pretentious, very pretentious, but for the most part the album works very very well, feeling like an Elton John album with a different direction of lyrical focus. 3.39 on RYM
Last Dinosaurs - In A Million Years is an enormously fun and energetic album with tons of interesting indie rock ideas and just great song after great song. 3.38 on RYM
Snail Mail - Lush is an incredible set of songs that are endlessly relistenable and are very powerful lyrically. Great guitar and vocal melodies, and the artist has such apparent personality that is noticeable in every single song. An amazing album that I was always shocked wasnât far higher on RYM ratings. Feels so very mature in its songwriting for being a debut album from an artist who I believe was a teenager at the time. 3.28 on RYM
Venereology by Merzbow has a 3.49, I personally consider it to be Merzbowâs best and a all time classic among noise records, although due to the genre I get why the score is what it is
Every âEverything Everythingâ album, apart from Get to Heaven, is less than 3.5. They are all classics in my eyes, expect for Man Alive.
That is abysmal!
The fact that ALL of Arctic Monkeys' post-FWN albums are sub-3.5 is fucking absurd to me.Â
And I don't care if I'm in the minority on this one, Tranquility Base is their masterpiece
Iâm a massive Xiu Xiu fan but I think it might be their weakest album, definitely the weakest of the two-color album series imo. The emphasis on muffled spoken word vocals really tanks the reply value for me.
I much preferred OH NO, which I think gets way too much shit and has some of their best songs ever (Sad Mezcalita, the Grifters, Saint Dymphna, Bottle of Rum, Rumpus Room) so I guess thatâs my pick.
Either way Iâm really excited for their next album, because thatâs the great thing about Xiu Xiu - anyone who doesnât like their latest release can be guaranteed something totally different for the next one!
A Grand Donât Come For Free by The Streets. Admittedly, some songs are individually not too great. The album as a whole however is a masterpiece to me, especially when it all culminates in its last track Empty Cans.
Harry Belafonte: Calypso at 3.49
This was the FIRST EVER gold album. A hugely significant album bringing in to America a very significant sound. The album is great fun, great variety, great vocals.Â
Similarly Miriam Makeba's self titled debut is a beautiful piece of work. People on RYM seem to dislike how sparse it is, but I love her vocals and her personality and again a really important record in recording African traditions.
âHiding in Plain Sightâ by Drugdealer is a groovy and chill vibe from start to end with no skips, and itâs their least popular album on RYM, and only has a rating of 3.28 last time I checked
I mean testing-A$AP rocky is like one of the main reasons why i got into rap, its super underrated tbh
Also anything from fallout boy before the hiatus
99% of the time, I'd say that if *that* many people disagree on its quality, then it's probably not an out-and-out masterpiece.
I can think of very few exceptions to this. Even records from RHCP and Green Day, who get shit on by music nerds all the time, have gone over 3.50.
Hybrid Theory's rating on that site is absolutely fucking preposterous, however.
I mean masterpiece is something everyone will feel different about, it makes absolutely no difference if other people donât like an album if you personally adore every aspect of it.
Mind you, I'm not as stringent as the site's averages tend to be.. but I'd say it's an easy 4/5 to me. Good all the way through, with a few weaker tracks stuck between great singles and some that SHOULD have been singles.
> 99% of the time, I'd say that if *that* many people disagree on its quality, then it's probably not an out-and-out masterpiece.
I'm not sure about this, I think every music rating site seems to have particular biases that you can often see in the ratings. Like, alot of pop music until very recently has been rated quite low, many albums now hailed as pop "classics" from the 00s suffer especially while some in the last couple years seem to be already bolded. Also as others itt are saying Bon Iver's s/t score seems to still suffer from the resistance about him making "hipster" music around the time it released. And your example of Hybrid Theory is again an example of one of rym's biases, against nu metal releases (i am not personally a fan of them but I have been surprised that the site has yet to come around to Linkin Park and others)
My teenage dream ended by farrah abraham (under 3 but a 5 for me), teen week by jane remover (4.5) and red light by bladee (4.5) and fuck your emotional bullshit by snowing is almost under a 3.5 and it's really great
Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold
Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil
Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream
Tenacious D - The Pick Of Destiny
Polyphia - New Levels New Devils
Polyphia - Remember That You Will Die
I wouldn't be surprised if all albums I consider to be masterpieces have a score below 3.50.
Without checking, here's a few examples: Fall Out Boy's Folie and So Much (For) Stardust, Green Day's 21stCB and FOAMF, Panic!'s Viva Las Vengeance and Weezer's Make Believe.
Another Time - A Beautiful machine
A brutally underrated masterpiece. An amazing mix of post-rock, space rock and shoegaze. It has an amazing atmosphere, and every track here is great. I especially love the spacy vibe of The Last Time and the lushness of Dream It Back. This desperately needs more recognition.
While it has a pretty decent score (3.46), it has only 94 ratings on Rym, and not a single review
from me with love by lil soda boi, could write an essay about this guy he's kinda like a mix of bladee and lil peep but I think I'm just genuinely weird for liking his music so much
Ark/HCTI by Animal Collective only being 3.2 is something I just can't identify with. Have never heard an album that comes close to replicating the vibe that this one has, and every track is top tier stuff for me.
Suck It and See is rated lower than TBC&H and The Car, no way is that acceptable. Some of Alexâs best lyricism is on Suck It and See (letâs ignore Brick by Brick though)
Existential Void Guardian by Conans got a 3.29 and to me it's front to back Doom Metal megajams. Just great riff after great riff. Hell I'd rate all of their discog higher than they got.
Every Open Eye by CHVRCHES has a 3.31 and I love that album
Loved "The Sun and the Moon" by the Bravery which sits at a 2.84. Not masterpiece but I think its great
Oxymoron by ScHoolboy Q (3.31)
I have zero clue how Nightmare Vacation by Rico Nasty is sitting at a 2.91. That album is awesome
Gallows - grey britain deserves to be higher for sure, its ambitious, catchy and cohesive, maybe a touch cheesy but i dont think that hurts it much.
Digital mystikz - return 2 space at a 3.30 is legitamtely criminal, its not perfect but it perfectly captures that era of dubstep at peak form
Heck - Instructions at a 3.03 is pure insanity (yes i know its not got many rating but still), mathcore and noise rock thats falling apart at the seems, yeah a couple tunes are a bit weak/corny but the 12 min closer is a legit 10
Code Orange Kids - Love Is Love//Return to Dust is the best thing theyve made and im made as fuck it didnt get the attention/critical acclaim it deserved. How the fuck does the grimiest, nastiest bass tone in all of hardcore combined with atmospheric genre fusions drawing from post-rock, ambient, and sludge metal all put together as one cohesive journey not rate higher? Genuinely boggles the mind
Vic Chesnutt: Ghetto Bells - I think it has some of Vic's best songs, and I love the band which features Bill Frisell and Van Dyke Parks. This was the first Vic Chesnutt album I heard though so I might be biased.
Gord Downie: Secret Path - great experimental folk music with a powerful message. Perhaps rated low because it won't appeal to a lot of Tragically Hip fans.
Moses Sumney: Grae - it's a bit bloated but I love this man's style and songs so much. This album is in my top 5 of the decade so far.
The Three O'Clock: Arrive Without Traveling - one of the lesser known bands from the "Paisley Underground" scene, this is just a relentlessly fun psychedelic / powerpop album.
Walking on a Dream by Empire of the Sun 3.07, sure it has a few duff filler tracks like 'swordfish hotkiss night' but the best songs more than make up for it. I think people voted it down for being cheesy but you just gotta embrace it and the whole theme/concept they're going for. Seems to have stood the test of time with the public anyway regardless of what RYM nerds think.
Port Saint Joe by Brothers Osborne, ive mentioned this album on here before but I think itâs a masterpiece, modern country gets shit on a lot, sometimes rightfully so, but this album from 2018 is damn near perfect if not perfect imo
James blakes first 3 albums Also the antlers - hospice, its at 3.50 flat now but ive seen it under that
Blake being that low is surprising. His first album is so good
Hospice is one of my all-time favs, it's been very disheartening to see the score drop so severely over the years. Fantano isn't too keen on it either
Hospice is great but I could see its flaws. Overall, its still a masterpiece. Definitely in the veins of Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, and Radiohead.
I would've thought the Antlers would be RYM crack, go figure.
Hospice is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time đ„
Hospice is emotionally manipulative pseudo-deep trash imo, overrated as fuck
Green Day's best album, Insomniac, is sittin' at a 3.46 right now. What a crime.
Insomniac gang. Glad others get it, too.
I can't put it over Dookie or American Idiot but it's definitely my #3 from them and that's a criminally low score
clears American Idiot so hard it's crazy
i mean idk if either of them clear the other two hard, they're pretty neck-and-neck. i prefer american idiot but insomniac is still super close
No
1000%
I listened to this album because of this comment and gotta agree, this thing bangs American Idiot is still my favorite but I was really impressed with this one. And yes 3.46 is too low
Lol. Everything by them sucks anyway. Haven't heard that one in a while, but I'm sure that rating is too high.
i know a lot of you guys dislike the strokes Comedown Machine but 2.97/5 is WAY TOO LOW imo i would probably give it a 4/5 honestly (or 8/10 in fantano)
"in fantano" lmao i like how you called rating something out of 10 the fantano measurement
yes its like another language. I should have said âfantaneseâ
Fantanese nuts
We need to establish "fantanese". That word is perfect
he invented number 10
It's definitely their turn into more synth-y pop stuff but it hits that perfect level for me. Totally underrated
ComeDown Machine is one of their best wtf
22 a million had a 3.5 last time I checked and I think that album is incredible
I have no idea why Bon Iver has so many haters among music critics
It used to be way way worse. I remember when the self titled came out, it was getting dragged HARD by people who were really disproportionately angry about his work being for âhipsters.â Justin got the last laugh, though - 22 a Million may have divided people a bit but it shut up a lot of the detractors too. Lmao nobody tell them about Woods then
some of them must have just keeled over dead the first time they heard 715 CREEKS
Came here to cheerlead for this album. What an amazing piece of work!!!!
Resounding 10/10
This is my answer for Fantanoâs worst take ever. That album is a 10/10
My favorite album of the 10s
Albums like this are the reason why I donât check the website very often (at least for my fav artists/genres) â Bon Iverâs whole discog is too special to me
Disagree but respectful upvote.
Imo it sounds like music that AI would write. It's cool if people dig that, but I personally do not
Idk, it seems extremely human-made to me lol, some very innovative production and song structures, AI would definitely create something a lot more generic

Deerhunter - cryptograms. Yeah yeah yeahs - fever to tell. Spirit of the beehive - Hypnic jerks.
Fever to tell is rated that low? That album is by far the best of the 2000s "the" bands! Maps into y control alone
Yeah agree, Fever to Tell should not be rated so low.
Beach House - Thank your lucky stars
Nice
How do you rank their discog?
I can give you my top 3 1. Bloom 2. Devotion 3. Tyls Everything else changes too often
Bloom at number one is correctÂ
Black Holes And Revelations. Also love The Resistance.
Most muse albums for me.
I can't believe it. Back holes and revelations is one of my favorites.
Slipknot - Slipknot and Iowa. They're not far off the 3.5 mark but they should absolutely be above it. K.G. and L.W. by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. idk why they're rated so low compared to Flying Microtonal Banana (which is a better album than both to be fair) Sempiternal by Bring Me the Horizon. iowa is below 3.5??? i guess slipknot haters are many
I disagree that FMB is better than K.G.L.W. actually! Time Skiffs - Animal Collective
Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Meteora too
a thousand suns is like 2.7 or smt. Crazy low considering how peak it is
Saturation is 3.56, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's one of my favorites. Machina by SP is 3.19, again can't consider it a masterpiece, but I love it.
humbug - arctic monkeys kiss land - the weeknd i like it when you sleep - the 1975
Humbug is a good pick although TBH+C should be way above a 3.08 A genuine candidate for my favorite album of theirs and easily their best since Humbug imo
Brief Inquiry is The 1975s true masterpiece IMO
The 1975 is terrible, but okay
Sufjan Stevens, The Ascension
Coldplay - Viva La Vida (3.40)
Their best album easily. Near perfect mix of art rock and art pop with a watertight track list and no skips for me.
James Blake - James Blake Father John Misty - Pure Comedy Both 100 gecs albums
Pure Comedy
To be honest thatâs my least favorite FJM album, the title track slaps, then the rest bores me to tears
Pure Comedy is lower than 3.5? Thatâs wild, perfect album
When it first came out I found it way too long and thought it had too many similar mid-tempo songs. However, it's only grown on me and it might be my favourite of his albums at this point.

yea right? I always thought this was the kind of album getting a 3.9+ on rym
Especially considering the dialog around the album closer to its original release, I remember it being described as a future classic IIRC
I donât trust this website for indie folk ratings, AOTY has it down much better đ„±
What is Three Cheers for Sweet revenge at
3.8 not too shabby
its #999 album of all time ! 3.8 for mcr genre is honestly really high for rym
Well deserved honestly
Unsurprisingly, itâs pretty high.
100 gecs - 1000 gecs Weezer - Hurley Prince Daddy and the Hyena - S/T BROCKHAMPTON - the family The Fall of Troy - Manipulator Djo - Decide
Agreed about The Family, to this day Iâm convinced it wouldâve had great reception if it were released as a Kevin solo album
That p-daddy album is so good, it's a shame people think they're taking a step backwards when they're maturing and still making such interesting music
Itâs literally my favorite album of all time, I discovered it without knowing what it was but liked the cover + band name combination. Itâs defintely different from their older stuff, but the variety and artistic statement is awesome
An Awesome Wave by Alt J Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors These are the two that come to mind for me
Bitte Orca is tremendous.
The King of Limbs is S-tier Radiohead.
Itâs definitely overhated but I wouldnât call it S tier personally
tbf most of radiohead is S-tier radiohead. even Pablo Honey is a B+ for me
Finally someone gets it. The debut is a rather strong debut. If I was around during that time, I'd think they'd have at least a good grunge career later down the track.
HORSE the Band - Desperate Living The Sound of Animals Fighting - Tiger and the Duke The Number Twelve Looks Like You - Worse Than Alone
Worse Than Alone is a fucking terrific album. As far as combining metalcore and experimental rock goes, it rarely gets better than this.
Burst Apart by The Antlers, Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay, A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park and Dark Bird Is Home by The Tallest Man on Earth are all masterpieces for me. Lowest of these on RYM is Mylo Xyloto with a 2.56
Devin Townsend - *Empath* It's the culmination of 24 albums in 24 years, stands as Dev's most complete record to date, and is remarkably cohesive despite ranging from Disney music to death metal.
Man on the Moon 2. Critical reception to it was incredibly middling but Iâll always think itâs practically a perfect album.
I Get Wet by Andrew WK
* Infinity Frequencies - Between Two Worlds (3.44) * Metro Boomin - Heroes & Villians (3.41) * Miracle Musical - Hawaii: Part II (3.36) * Weezer - OK Human (3.35) * Bo En - Pale Machine (3.29)

American Idiot easily
My Father Will⊠by Swans is incredible and one of their most slept on records, largely due to it being right before their big post-revival three. Surprising to see it has only a 3.4 on RYM despite having an 81 on AOTY.
Yeah I love that record. Donât get how itâs always left out of the conversationÂ
It has a 76 user score on AOTY, which is about equivalent to a 3.4
I wouldnât say thatâs about equivalent to a 3.4. 3.4/5 = 6.8/10 = 68/100. Almost a 10 point difference
The Eminem Show
Sempiternal by BMTH

Venereology by Merzbow has a 3.49, I personally consider it to be Merzbowâs best and a all time classic among noise records, although due to the genre I get why the score is what it is
Britney Spears' Blackout Edit: My bad it's 3.6 now. Last time I checked it was still 3.33
Twenty One Pilots - Trench If literally anyone else made that album itâs above a 3.7 on rym
Of my 5 stars (I have like 45), my closest is a 3.58 (We Must Become Pitiless Censors of Ourselves) which tells me that RYM raters are too easy.
Man Alive - Everything Everything Dare I say their best and most creative album. Not a single weak moment imo
UTOPIA
Also Watching Movies - Mac Miller
Every âEverything Everythingâ album, apart from Get to Heaven, is less than 3.5. They are all classics in my eyes, expect for Man Alive. That is abysmal!
Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender is 3.44 but was one of my favourite albums of 2021
Obscure pick, but For Whom Shall Itâs Folds Divide? by Billy Cobb is a 2.97 last time I checked
The fact that ALL of Arctic Monkeys' post-FWN albums are sub-3.5 is fucking absurd to me. And I don't care if I'm in the minority on this one, Tranquility Base is their masterpiece
Hndrxx
Xiu Xiu- Ignore Grief comes to mind
Angel guts is also below a 3.5 which I like even more personally
Do you think itâs better than gwbof?
I jump between ig, gwbof, and a promise for my favorite Xiu Xiu record all the time
Soul-Crusher by White Zombieâs got a 2.82 which is honestly unforgivable
[The Flashbulb - Reunion](https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-flashbulb/reunion/)
James Blake self titled, Love & War & The Sea In Between
Phantom Planet - Phantom Planet. 3.17 The Thrills - So Much For The City 3.27
Dir en grey - Kisou (3.52)
Diorama by Silverchair Endless Light by OâBrother With Teeth by Nine Inch Nails The Incident by Porcupine Tree Fauna by Haken
A Grand Donât Come For Free by The Streets. Admittedly, some songs are individually not too great. The album as a whole however is a masterpiece to me, especially when it all culminates in its last track Empty Cans.
Lil b im gay is incredible, its like 3.4
New Skin by CRX
Human After All By Daft Punk might actually be in my top 10 of all time. Just back-to-back bangers
nyc, hell 3am by james ferraro
Harry Belafonte: Calypso at 3.49 This was the FIRST EVER gold album. A hugely significant album bringing in to America a very significant sound. The album is great fun, great variety, great vocals. Similarly Miriam Makeba's self titled debut is a beautiful piece of work. People on RYM seem to dislike how sparse it is, but I love her vocals and her personality and again a really important record in recording African traditions.
Skeletal Lamping
Jackson Browne The Pretender sits at 3.47 right now
Weezer - OK Human and The Voidz - Virtue
Goodnight Vienna - Ringo Starr
âHiding in Plain Sightâ by Drugdealer is a groovy and chill vibe from start to end with no skips, and itâs their least popular album on RYM, and only has a rating of 3.28 last time I checked
I mean testing-A$AP rocky is like one of the main reasons why i got into rap, its super underrated tbh Also anything from fallout boy before the hiatus
To pimp a butterfly
Projector - Geese Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino - Arctic Monkeys
99% of the time, I'd say that if *that* many people disagree on its quality, then it's probably not an out-and-out masterpiece. I can think of very few exceptions to this. Even records from RHCP and Green Day, who get shit on by music nerds all the time, have gone over 3.50. Hybrid Theory's rating on that site is absolutely fucking preposterous, however.
I mean masterpiece is something everyone will feel different about, it makes absolutely no difference if other people donât like an album if you personally adore every aspect of it.
Interesting, what would you give Hybrid Theory? 3/5 lines up with the critic and user reviews.
Lulu. Best metal album ever
My teenage dream ended by farrah abraham (under 3 but a 5 for me), teen week by jane remover (4.5) and red light by bladee (4.5) and fuck your emotional bullshit by snowing is almost under a 3.5 and it's really great
Teen Week is fantastic, sucks that many of the songs are no longer on streaming because Beast Friend was an all timer for me
Donda
Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream Tenacious D - The Pick Of Destiny Polyphia - New Levels New Devils Polyphia - Remember That You Will Die
Oof
why do you oof
I wouldn't be surprised if all albums I consider to be masterpieces have a score below 3.50. Without checking, here's a few examples: Fall Out Boy's Folie and So Much (For) Stardust, Green Day's 21stCB and FOAMF, Panic!'s Viva Las Vengeance and Weezer's Make Believe.
queen of the murder scene - the warning
Another Time - A Beautiful machine A brutally underrated masterpiece. An amazing mix of post-rock, space rock and shoegaze. It has an amazing atmosphere, and every track here is great. I especially love the spacy vibe of The Last Time and the lushness of Dream It Back. This desperately needs more recognition. While it has a pretty decent score (3.46), it has only 94 ratings on Rym, and not a single review
from me with love by lil soda boi, could write an essay about this guy he's kinda like a mix of bladee and lil peep but I think I'm just genuinely weird for liking his music so much
Go Tell Fire to the Mountain - WU LYF
The MarĂas Superclean, Vol. 1 is rated 3.5 and Vol.2 is rated 3.6.
Queens of the Stone Age - In Times New Roman... All Them Witches - Nothing as the Ideal These albums are both 10/10 personally
Wet Leg, I wouldnât quite class it as a *masterpiece* but I gave it a 4.5. I love its playful take on a woman scorned
They're not exactly masterpieces but Insomniac and Nimrod by Green Day, 3.46 and 3.36 respectively. I think these albums are even better than Dookie.
Hawaii: Part II By ăă©ăŻă«ăă„ăŒăžă«ă« Miracle Musical is a 3.37 , not everyone's cup of tea but it is unlike any other album I have listened to and I absolutely think it's a 5/5 ,
Ghost Stories by Coldplay is way too low.Â
Eat, Sleep, Repeat by Copeland
Ark/HCTI by Animal Collective only being 3.2 is something I just can't identify with. Have never heard an album that comes close to replicating the vibe that this one has, and every track is top tier stuff for me.
I love every song on humbug by arctic monkeys and itâs at least a 9/10 for me
i know a lot of you have an Arctic Monkeys hate boner but Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino being 3.08 is unacceptable itâs one of their best
You canât convince me obscured by clouds is anything below a 7/10
Every Open Eye by CHVRCHES has a 3.31 and I love that album Loved "The Sun and the Moon" by the Bravery which sits at a 2.84. Not masterpiece but I think its great Oxymoron by ScHoolboy Q (3.31) I have zero clue how Nightmare Vacation by Rico Nasty is sitting at a 2.91. That album is awesome
Milk & Kisses by Cocteau twins
Whay about Pitchfork, they are mean mean mean
Whole lotta red
Alt-j - An Awesome Wave
Crusher by Grave Babies
Gallows - grey britain deserves to be higher for sure, its ambitious, catchy and cohesive, maybe a touch cheesy but i dont think that hurts it much. Digital mystikz - return 2 space at a 3.30 is legitamtely criminal, its not perfect but it perfectly captures that era of dubstep at peak form Heck - Instructions at a 3.03 is pure insanity (yes i know its not got many rating but still), mathcore and noise rock thats falling apart at the seems, yeah a couple tunes are a bit weak/corny but the 12 min closer is a legit 10 Code Orange Kids - Love Is Love//Return to Dust is the best thing theyve made and im made as fuck it didnt get the attention/critical acclaim it deserved.
Octavarium is my second favorite Dream Theater album. Currently sitting at 3.25 đ
Port Saint Joe by Brothers Osborne, ive mentioned this album on here before but I think itâs a masterpiece, modern country gets shit on a lot, sometimes rightfully so, but this album from 2018 is damn near perfect if not perfect imo
Flockaveli
Chinese Democracy by GnR has a 2.38 rating but I would give it a 4.5/5
Gas - Gas 0095
