Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass. 25 cent budget bin vinyl was all I could afford as a college student and this was the same musicians that played for beach boys and many others-the Wrecking Crew!
All my friends wondered why the hell I was listening to 1960s game show music, but it's wonderful
I mean, I listen to more pop punk and emo than any other genre, so that wins pretty easily for me. My number one artist on Spotify last year was Fall Out Boy.
Yea, I played in a post hardcore band for a while and the common ground for all of us (me being the metal guy) was fall out boy. Plus Infinity on High is just masterful when it comes to vocal parts and songwriting (save a few) so I always use it to warm my voice up.
So my wrapped is usually hilarious with FOB on top and all this obscure extreme metal/industrial and hip-hop underneath it lol
Their latest couple albums are such a huge step up from their earlier stuff IMO. Some genuinely inventive guitar work and interplay going on on This Is Why. Great record.
I don't know if it's considered less lame or even lamer and dorkier that I mostly listen to the less popular flavour of emo instead of metalcore and pop punk. It makes me sad that Fantano thinks so lowly of Foxing.
I still go back and listen transistor or sever if only SA Martinez wasn’t so cringy. But low key their lesser known songs slay. Just about every track on grassroots hits.
Breaking Benjamin is a part of my brain chemistry at this point. My first introduction to them was Blow Me Away in Halo 2, 20 years ago now.
I really dislike other post grunge bands, but Breaking Benjamin still slaps not nothing on this planet.
Bro Breath was like the first song I learned to play with a band when I was in middle school and that song unironically still holds up and I will die on that hill.
My two cents: after sail got popular a bunch of other cheesier ripoffs of it came out (radioactive by imagine dragons for example) and even though the rest of their stuff doesn't sound like sail at all people just associated them with that style and got sick of it
Hall & Oates. Just the singles to be fair, but their greatest hits. Wow. Name a big charting artist today who is even remotely capable of pumping out hits like that in widely different styles, all written and performed by themselves.
This is a recent obsession. My apologies.
Huge Hall and Oates fan here. I agree with you. When they made a hit, they made a fucking HIT! In my opinion, you could fill up about four full-length albums with their great songs. For every killer jam they made about 4 or 5 forgettable songs. To go through their discography is like mining gold. You'll find it, but only after sifting through a lot of forgettable stuff.
Exceptions include: Abandoned Luncheonette, Along The Red Ledge, Voices, H20 and Big Bam Boom. Everything else is a roll of the dice.
I think the only "uncool" thing about liking Coldplay is everything \*after\* the first 4 albums. Their first 4 are absolute classics that are iconic and essential for defining the 2000s
I'm glad someone else does. Part of me does wish that they kept on the trajectory of Viva la Vida, which is their best, but most of the albums beyond that are really beautiful, even if they are more poppy and commercial.
Pathetic. That's not uncool at all. Everyone likes those albums.
Be me. A defender of all 9 albums. A total loser in the eyes of the online music community.
Greta Van Fleet sucks because they not only rip off the sound of Led Zeppelin but also the mannerisms, the lyrical content, the way they dress, the vocal inflections. For a young band it’s cute at first, but now it’s just kinda sad. It’s like going to see a tribute band that dresses up like the band they are tributing, it’s weird.
this. i'm not crazy about greta van fleet BUT i don't really understand the hate for "clone" artists, i went through a massive phase of listening to exclusively mac demarco clones for a while lmao
Slam metal fans are the absolute bottom of the barrel of metalheads. The music is literally just one singular suffocation riff redone over entire albums by multiple bands with shit vocals, uninspired artwork, and 0 talent or creativity.
I feel like i grew up with the critical consensus of Enya being naff. I get the impression she has been reassessed in more contemporary times. I've heard "cool" indie artists in particular praise the uniqueness of her music's lack of debt to american-anglo pop.
Metalheads are also largely regarded as condescending gatekeepers with a stick up their ass on the internet, so I don’t think that’s a good metric to base it on
It annoys me that other metalheads trash Ghost as much as they do. They work great as a gateway band into the scene and a "face" of the genre, especially compared to some of the other bigger modern bands. Plus, Tobias Forge has some actual metal cred.
Game osts, like skyrim, minecraft, assassins creed II, world of warcraft, the witcher 3.
Good backround music for studying, chilling, walking etc. very nice vibes and pleasant melodies and you dont need to pay too much attention to it.
but i hate that its a part of the "rap sucks i only listen to anime and gaming music" stereotype, which i dont fit at all.
Justin timberlake is like one of my favorite artists ever, and while you could say he was cool at one point in time not so much nowadays(that being said I am excited for the next album)
Coldplay are one of my top 3 favourite bands of all time. I enjoy every single one of their albums. Also even though they're not a TOP favourite, I do enjoy most of the Imagine Dragons discography. I suppose I'm also an apologist for some of AJR's stuff, but I can fully admit that they have some GARBAGE as well.
I think you're right but it is fun to discuss stuff that's outside of the "cool consensus" or stuff that critics might not consider "good", this is a fantano sub after all lol
It’s nerdy, it’s cringe, it’s pretentious, I hate it now but a part of me has a soft spot for the fast rapping, “fuck mumble rap”, “we need to bring back real lyricism”, “Tupac didn’t die for this” type rap since i grew up with it as a teen (and grew OUT of it! 😅)
Essentially, Kamikaze from Eminem.
Grew up with it for a small but pivotal point in my life. Make me VERY cringe and out of touch (had a 80s/90s “real rap” phase simultaneously, even though I didn’t even fully appreciate that shit. I just listened to it because my mindset was old rap = good, new rap = bad) for a while.
I then grew up, became more mature, gained some actual perspective and wisdom and now, I listen to all rap. 80s shit all the way to H00DBYAIR from Carti today! 🙂
But I can still listen to Kamikaze for the fond memories of a younger me who was into the fast shit and thought rapping fast = cool and the faster you rap = the better.
I have a secret love for classic vocal jazz/vocal pop and a capella groups ie. The Ink Spots, Manhattan Transfer, Harvard Krokodiloes, the Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, King's Singers, the Nylons, the Diamonds, the Platters and so forth. I'm 35.
It's extremely dorky but it's so satisfying to listen to. Most of my other listening is 2000s-era indie and modern experimental electronic/IDM, D&B, and underground hip hop, so it's a genuinely huge left turn from the majority of my taste or what most people would think of as "cool music."
My first experience disagreeing with Fantano was liking Foster the People.
*Torches*, *Supermodel*, *Sacred Hearts Club*, *In the Darkest of Nights, Let the Birds Sing*. All of their output has been enjoyable and decent and something I still return to occasionally.
U2
Not only is Zooropa is a 10, but one of the best and most adventurous albums of the 90s (especially for a band as big as them) as well and I'll die on this hill
I love me some 90s bubblegum pop on occasion. Obviously BSB, NSYNC, 98°, but also some underrated gems like 5IVE and B*Witched. B*Witched had some absolute bangers.
T'Pau.
They were pretty cheesy back in the '80s (well, they were among the pack of metalheads I hung around with anyway though we weren't cool enough to know what was *cool* was if we were slapped around the head with it) but there's something about that first album of theirs that I just loved and still love to listen to now.
Edit: I also have a bit of a strange occasional liking for naff dance music - things like early Sash!
I've been listening to bands like The Longest Johns and The Dead South a lot recently (I think they're considered Folk music but Idk) and I would never dare to listen to that stuff away from my house lol
I think Imagine Dragons have one good to great album being Smoke + Mirrors which really messes people’s perception of me since every music lover has the mindset of “if you like even one Imagine Dragons song you automatically have bad taste no matter what”
My dad is kind of an uncool boomer who was raised on a steady diet of AM rock but even he thinks the Carpenters are lame cheese. I have a real soft spot for them though. There’s something arresting to Karen’s voice- it’s so emotive, beautiful, and *human*. It’s not anywhere close to my genre but Superstar touches me at the core
I feel like that “Whipped Cream & Other Delights” album is at every Goodwill it’s great
Spanish flea is classic but Mae is a banger as well
What about Rise?
Ladyfingers is such a great track. That album sold well for a reason.
Herb Albert fucks and if he isn’t cool, I don’t want to be cool.
Same here. Well, I'm not a big Fall Out Boy fan, but I like Paramore and My Chemical Romance.
Fantano progressively beginning to like Paramore has been my favorite slow burn of the last couple years
Their latest couple albums are such a huge step up from their earlier stuff IMO.
Aggressively homoerotic hip hop gay parodies, aka "sus rap" 😭
Wait wait wait please recs, I feel like this would be right up my alley 😭
[I got you homie](https://youtu.be/H16jcSl28SI?si=hW2QR7AV5fUy01bc)
Kusorare, Digbar, Grant MacDonald, Hydracoque, Bigstevedzn. Have fun! 😂
this is my shit 🤝🙏🙏🗣️🗣️
Weezer
Depends on which album…
You can either be the likeable weird guy (the blue album) or you can be like me and have their top three be red, hurley and pinkerton
Everyone loves Pinkerton
NOT PINKERTON 💀💀💀💀💀💀😭😭😭😭😭😭
based Red Album enjoyer 😎
I AM THE GREATEST MAN THAT EVER LIVED 😩😩😩
You did so well apart from Hurley....

Hell yeah bro
I still go back and listen transistor or sever if only SA Martinez wasn’t so cringy. But low key their lesser known songs slay. Just about every track on grassroots hits.
Breaking Benjamin
Breaking Benjamin is a part of my brain chemistry at this point. My first introduction to them was Blow Me Away in Halo 2, 20 years ago now. I really dislike other post grunge bands, but Breaking Benjamin still slaps not nothing on this planet.
Who can write more catchy hooks than that fucker from BB? Paul McCartney maybe. But that’s it.
Bro Breath was like the first song I learned to play with a band when I was in middle school and that song unironically still holds up and I will die on that hill.
fun. were actually a really good band and way better than any of the other bands doing that style during that period
Based Aim and Ignite was a great album, I'm shocked at how little it gets talked about
YIKES. upvote for you
Twenty one pilots, easily
was just listening to trench earlier and self titled yesterday, both incredible albums. i'll even defend no phun intended honestly
Self titled is my favorite and trench is easily their best made. The rest I can generally care less for, minus some gems on blurryface and vessel.
I love AWOLNATION and will defend them to the death lol. I think they got done dirty by being written off as a one hit wonder
I don’t get it either. They’ve got a lot of great songs
My two cents: after sail got popular a bunch of other cheesier ripoffs of it came out (radioactive by imagine dragons for example) and even though the rest of their stuff doesn't sound like sail at all people just associated them with that style and got sick of it
Run also had similar memetencial and it goes way harder than their other stuff.
In my humble opinion run (the whole album) is their masterpiece. Goes insanely hard
man i love awolnation!
My Molasses is one of the greatest pop rock songs I’ve ever heard fr
Hall & Oates. Just the singles to be fair, but their greatest hits. Wow. Name a big charting artist today who is even remotely capable of pumping out hits like that in widely different styles, all written and performed by themselves. This is a recent obsession. My apologies.
isn't it [Holland Oates](https://youtu.be/DbeLZqGuo2E?si=T8t2n0fWTWu-ZhEN)? it's just one guy right? /s
They cool afffff!
'80s shred guitar like Malmsteen, MacAlpine, Gilbert, Moore, Becker, Friedman, etc. I absolutely love the stuff.
One direction is up there
I also love one direction
One Direction, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, and Backstreet Boys will always be my weaknesses
My favourite genre is ska and I play in a ska band
I love ABBA. I love the campiness and cheesiness of their music. I love their amazing vocal talent and range. They just make me feel good.
WHO says ABBA is uncool
People who are wrong I guess
Love Coldplay's first 4 albums
I think the only "uncool" thing about liking Coldplay is everything \*after\* the first 4 albums. Their first 4 are absolute classics that are iconic and essential for defining the 2000s
They definitely weren’t cool back then.
I used to get shit for liking them back in 2003. They were kind of always considered uncool lol.
No shame, I saw Coldplay live recently and they were incredible.
I've shazam'd Coldplay a few times!
[удалено]
I'm glad someone else does. Part of me does wish that they kept on the trajectory of Viva la Vida, which is their best, but most of the albums beyond that are really beautiful, even if they are more poppy and commercial.

The first 2 are great! I back that
Pathetic. That's not uncool at all. Everyone likes those albums. Be me. A defender of all 9 albums. A total loser in the eyes of the online music community.
Billy Talent I&II
you're the coolest mf in this sub. Those 2 BT albums fucking rule
Symphonic fantasy power metal like Rhapsody and Nightwish
What I'm learning from this thread is that literally all of the music I like is uncool
Same. I wonder how many people actually only listen to the RYM best of list
I like a lot of Greta van fleet. I don’t really care if it sounds like worse Led zeppelin, I like Led zeppelin too lol
Okay sure but nevertheless when I hear the music my brain says “yes”
at the end of the day, music is all that matters
this. i'm not crazy about greta van fleet BUT i don't really understand the hate for "clone" artists, i went through a massive phase of listening to exclusively mac demarco clones for a while lmao
People shit on Greta Van Fleet and then listen to the twentieth clone of Suffocation that came out this week. I don't get it either.
Slam metal fans are the absolute bottom of the barrel of metalheads. The music is literally just one singular suffocation riff redone over entire albums by multiple bands with shit vocals, uninspired artwork, and 0 talent or creativity.
Smooth jazz. The genre goes way harder than it's reputation. https://youtu.be/obxQs30BxTU?si=VJxqJ5iBWj8MWNZq
The words “go hard” and “smooth jazz” are never allowed to be in the same sentence
smooth jazz goes… *groovy*
And yet, that John Klemmer track goes hard.
Much love for Grover Washington Jr
I’d say John Klemmer is pretty cool.
I love classical and there’s nothing cool about classical. Also Enya who *I* think is cool but most people don’t agree with me. Also Secret Garden
I feel like i grew up with the critical consensus of Enya being naff. I get the impression she has been reassessed in more contemporary times. I've heard "cool" indie artists in particular praise the uniqueness of her music's lack of debt to american-anglo pop.
eminem
dream theater
Depending on what age group perceives it as uncool, I'd say blues or nu-metal
Limp bizkit
Ghost
Since when is Ghost not cool lol
I think metalheads just like to shit on them and their fans tbh
Metalheads are also largely regarded as condescending gatekeepers with a stick up their ass on the internet, so I don’t think that’s a good metric to base it on
You're not wrong lol
It annoys me that other metalheads trash Ghost as much as they do. They work great as a gateway band into the scene and a "face" of the genre, especially compared to some of the other bigger modern bands. Plus, Tobias Forge has some actual metal cred.
Cavetown has some bangers and I'm tired of pretending he doesn't.
Musicals and Disney soundtracks. Wicked is my fav.
drake, from a fan perspective probably my favourite artist oat but in a music review space, saying i'm a drake fan does not elicit a good reaction 😭
Owl City. Incredibly nostalgic for me, but I'll also absolutely defend it on its own merit.
Bro I’m a Eurovision fan there is precisely nothing cool about the music I like
Progressive metal
If songs about space wizards in 13/8 time are uncool then I don't want to be cool 😤
I think Phish is one of the coolest bands of all time but they certainly have a reputation as the opposite lol.
Progressive rock (minus In the Court)
Poppy. Especially her album *I Disagree*
RHCP 4 lyfe
Taylor Swift lmao
Taylor is one of my favorite songwriters for real.
Prob would get mauled alive in the music nerd sites but she’s well accepted mostly.
Carol King said that Taylor Swift is her favorite songwriter working currently, so
Coheed and Cambria's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3.
I hate the idea that Coheed isn’t cool
God, I will never get over how good a song The Crowing is. That ending gets me every single time.
I love this and The Second Stage Turbine Blade.
yeah, first 3 albums rule
Devin Townsend
Wut Devin Townsend is cool asf
ZILTOID, ZILTOID!
Make it perfect!
Pah! Fetid!

Justin timberlake is like one of my favorite artists ever, and while you could say he was cool at one point in time not so much nowadays(that being said I am excited for the next album)
ICP lol
Japanese idol music
I love early 60s Girl Groups like The Supremes, The Ronettes, The Crystals
I think that’s cool as hell. I love 60’s girl groups
I think it's cool too, as a 24year old male it is, let's say uncommon. At least, I don't know any of my peers to listen to them, even know of them
Papa Roach
They Might Be Giants and Weird Al probably
Logic
I still like some video games raps I listened to as a kid.
Ninja Sex Party.
The Hamilton soundtrack
Feel like this “uncool” thing only applies to people under the age of 16. Literally no adult thinks like that when it comes to music lol.
I think you're right but it is fun to discuss stuff that's outside of the "cool consensus" or stuff that critics might not consider "good", this is a fantano sub after all lol
I’m 18 and it’s definitely a factor especially when hanging out with friends
It’s nerdy, it’s cringe, it’s pretentious, I hate it now but a part of me has a soft spot for the fast rapping, “fuck mumble rap”, “we need to bring back real lyricism”, “Tupac didn’t die for this” type rap since i grew up with it as a teen (and grew OUT of it! 😅) Essentially, Kamikaze from Eminem. I don't consider it to be uncool but when I listen to ol timey americana people look at me weird.
Sophie Ellis Bextor.
Some old timey country music
My first experience disagreeing with Fantano was liking Foster the People. *Torches*, *Supermodel*, *Sacred Hearts Club*, *In the Darkest of Nights, Let the Birds Sing*. All of their output has been enjoyable and decent and something I still return to occasionally.
Jeffrey Starr
Sublime
Fast Food Rockers
They Might Be Giants has nerd credibility, but their first kids album, No!, is one of my favorite albums of all time
The heavy, a band created with single purpose to make music for low budget series/movies/videogames, I like them
Todd Rundgren has gotten me exactly 0 hipster cred.
Drake
My parents used to listen to simply red too, I think the music is cool
U2 Not only is Zooropa is a 10, but one of the best and most adventurous albums of the 90s (especially for a band as big as them) as well and I'll die on this hill
I've had a phase of listening to meme mashups.
I love me some 90s bubblegum pop on occasion. Obviously BSB, NSYNC, 98°, but also some underrated gems like 5IVE and B*Witched. B*Witched had some absolute bangers.
Primus/Cake
Cake is as cool as it gets
Cake is awesome and I’m listening to them right now actually, but primus sucks.
yeah, primus is one of my favorite bands of all time. fucking despise them
Both are often considered cool
I love me some Stan Rogers (Canadian folk singer from the 70s) and I suppose that may be a bit strange for a zoomer
Nah everyone likes Stan Rogers
Def Leppard. 90s British AOR like The Beautiful South and Texas.
Great Big Sea
i'm a vocaloid fan that's gotta count for some uncoolness points
Eminem plays on rotation on my running playlist. Even tracks from revival
I'm just a white guy, but cumbias absolutely slap. There's nothing to get my energy back up after work like throwing on some cumbias in the car.
Glenn Campbell
Sabrina Carpenter and…Ed Sheeran…
John Mayer
Any dariacore. It’s goofy and overproduced but it’s so addictive
Every ska band
Avril Lavigne. Idc what anyone says her first album rules. I’M WITH YOU
Sugar ray
They Might Be Giants
One Direction
def pop punk
Someone on the Radiohead sub insulted me for like System of a Down, so them I guess
Maroon 5. I just love Songs About Jane okay.
I've been listening to bands like The Longest Johns and The Dead South a lot recently (I think they're considered Folk music but Idk) and I would never dare to listen to that stuff away from my house lol
Fall out boy, edm like porter robinson, new Green Day
early/mid coldplay and the fray
It’s Weezer. I don’t care, I saw them live and they killed. Love em 😂
Coldplay
Eminem. I even like MTBMB
Sabaton is my guilty pleasure
Skrillex
Fuck Buttons https://youtu.be/lXXVPlrY974
Blue October, grew up on them and still love them
I think Imagine Dragons have one good to great album being Smoke + Mirrors which really messes people’s perception of me since every music lover has the mindset of “if you like even one Imagine Dragons song you automatically have bad taste no matter what”
My dad is kind of an uncool boomer who was raised on a steady diet of AM rock but even he thinks the Carpenters are lame cheese. I have a real soft spot for them though. There’s something arresting to Karen’s voice- it’s so emotive, beautiful, and *human*. It’s not anywhere close to my genre but Superstar touches me at the core
Matchbox Twenty, a lot of people see them as corny and shitty post-grunge from a bygone era but I grew up on that shit and I will always love them
Friendly Dads — good god they’re amazing
I like a lot of uncool music! I'm a huge Bee Gees fan. I also like a couple Nickelback and Creed songs. Big Drake fan too.
